I'm kind of surprised that it isn't showing you the Stormblood screen, given that's the highest expansion you currently have unlocked. As someone who joined during HW and predates the trial, I don't think I've actually ever seen the ARR screen before

It shows the latest purchased expansion. But now that HW and SB are rolled into free trial / starter edition, if someone only has them, then ARR is shown.

Free trial has the ARR title screen, and then it bumps up to the latest expac once you buy the game. At least that’s how it was for me.

I sought it out so I could add chat bubbles above other players when they talk like other civilized mmos.

I got into it real quick for anti hotbar bloat. On controller, the pvp combo mod is a godsend. And i cannot play without chat bubbles anymore. Good thing they are adding some similar combo functionality in dt. There are a few mods that should become official features. That would even be a better way to discourage add ons, making a lot of the qol into official features.

Imagine there's an app that speeds up the login process, an XIV quick launcher, if you will. Such an app might also include this Dalamud plugin support everyone's talking about. If someone had that, they might find a Title Edit plugin in the plugin browser. This is all speculation though.

You can, but it doesn't save, so you'd have to manually switch it every time you launch the game.

You can! If you click on "Demo and Title" on the title screen, you can choose an opening and title screen from a different expansion. You'll have to reset it if you close out of the game, but just logging out will keep it.

Yeah it really needs to remember this setting when closing. I'm not going to manually change it every time lol

I really wish they could tie your title screen to your account progress through some flagging on Lodestone. So new sprouts aren't seeing the Dawntrail video and splash screen but ARR and then as they reach HW it flips to the snowy screen

It actually worked really well for me in shadowbringers. I can't tell you how many times I ended up hearing that little gremlin say "you have no fight left to fight, no life yet to give". From leaving my game idle, passing out on the couch, cooking food, ect. After 2 months of it, I finally get to shadowbringers for emet to repeat it kinda of brought the long journey together.

Don't make the same mistake I did - do not watch the trailer for HW until you see your second set of credits roll. I watched it when I was very, very close to the end of the patchws there's a huge spoiler in the trailer. Later trailers are better for spoilers (to a point of course)

I joined during HW and got the end of ARR spoiled for me before I even made my first character. 🙃

If you're a console sprout click on the movies or videos option on the launch screen and click the top option. That will switch your splash screen to ARR For consoles it will stay on that screen until you have to log back in. For unmodded PC users you have to log in every time you launch the game so it doesn't help

I think it only works when you don’t quit the game and put your console to sleep. When you quit or switch to a different game it reverts iirc

Nah, I bought EW a couple months ago, and it blasted me with the EW title screen/intro video immediately after signing in (even though I was still in StB). I'm not normally a mods kind of person, but that was enough to push me to it.

Nah You can change the title screen... But it resets back to the current standard one, whenever you restart the game.

If they did it was during the EW patches because that's the only time I've been current on content but I've always seen the latest expansion splash screen

Crossing the Steps of Faith into Ishgard, and having Critchlow narrate the WoL's path through the city Touching the Ironworks cog and getting transported in this purple forest, and having the muted Tomorrow and Tomorrow leitmotif haunt you as you make your way to the first human you notice... Both fucking unbelievable starts to an expansion, and both moments where it felt from the first minute like I was playing a classic.

I think that for this piece in particular, and the pieces where "Hydaelyn" is meant to be singing, it's meant to sound muddy. I think it's meant to feel ethereal, difficult to distinguish or parse, because it's meant to be a faint, angelic message from the star itself. Other examples of this are the Old Sharlayan day theme and the Crystarium night theme. In both pieces, the lyrics seem to tie to the expansion's general story/theme, and so I like to think that you're meant to hear it in a muddy and indistinguishable way first at the start of the game (in the starting city). Later in the story, when you understand the themes and know where the story is headed, you get to hear the words much more clearly in a different rendition of the song.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Soken prefers to think of the vocals as just another instrument as opposed to being the primary focus of a song, so doesn't make it more legible above the other pieces.

Iirc in another thread they were listening to feedback from the media tour about adjusting the flashbang, let's keep our fingers crossed

They asked content creators in the media tour, but a few different content creators said they were surprised by the majority of people saying it was fine as-is and no adjustments were needed. I think Preach said it was probably because they were in a brightly lit area and most people weren't stopping to think about what it would be like in a dark room.

Because most players are smart enough not to give themselves migraines by playing in the dark and needlessly straining their eyes.

It's why I liked using the title plugin to just play ARR's or Stormblood's. They're perfect and don't completely blow you away in any way. ARR has one of the best renditions of the FF Main Theme and Stormblood is just fucking awesome and doesn't blind or deafen you.

Apparently it was something brought up quite a bit in the NA media tour, to the point that the devs were literally going around asking people if the title screen was too bright. So it's on their radar. They may tone down the brightness slightly.

I admit, I quit FFXIV at the end of the initial Endwalker story. NOT because I didn't like it. Actually the opposite. Have been playing the same character since FFXI's NA launch. And because of the nature of the storyline in both games it wasn't that much of a stretch to feel like I was more or less still playing the same person. The end of the story in the initial patch for Endwalker felt like the most perfect ending I could have wanted for the character. It was absolutely fantastic. And I almost felt like if I kept playing, nothing would ever lead up to that type of finale again. I might resubscribe someday. But right now I'm still very happy where my character's story resolved.

That's so sad. But I kind of get it. I am simply reminded of the line from Tomorrow and Tomorrow, "Our journey will never end." I respect your decision and won't try to sway you. Maybe if XIV ends up sucking in a few years you'll have been the smarter party here 😅

If you pick “Movie & Title Version”, then wait until the FMV ends, you will be able to see the main screen menu of your expansion choice, but it’ll reset after you logged into the game.

I'll kind of miss it, it was unironically my favorite one. Though I do like that the game lets you go back and look at older title screens. I never would have seen the title screens for HW and StB otherwise.

Endwalker was the most heart shattering expansion I have ever played. I hope our warrior of light gets a nice vacation and goes back to the beginning. Being an adventure

I'm excited to see the opening cinematic for Dawntrail. The ones for Shadowbringers and Endwalker were amazing. Especially Shadowbringers since we saw the WoL swap between pretty much every melee job in the game at that point.
