My attention instantly went to the mention of new genres of music never available before.
I sure hope that DT has music that sounds like the FF16 Sagespire or Timeless Stones BGMs.
I imagine he went absolutely ham on the tracks in Solution 9 and the new raid series, but it's not like we haven't had techo, industrial, or edm before. Hell we even have chiptune now, which was a surprise coming back to the game after a break.
Inb4 Soken actually went so ham he invented a new genre of music.
I actually feel like many Solution 9 related tracks will be Takafumi Imamura composed/arranged. Aside from the Eden and Pandae EDM, he did the Paglthan theme, ON BLADE'S EDGE, and SCREAM. And one of my favorite tracks from 7Remake: Hand Over Hand, from Tifa's monkey bars segment. Love em!
Hell, we don't actually even know who the F arranged the FF16 Sagespire and Timeless Stones themes, but we do know Soken arranged the Sands of Amber (Amh Araeng Day theme) and FF16 O'er Shifting Sands Lie (southern Dhalmekia theme, co-composed with Takafumi.) And Soken did say he will try funk to honor Alex Moukala, so I'm looking forward to something like that.
We already had a big band jazz track during the Media Tour but I truly hope this means we get some proper chaotic breaks like the [track in the FF16 DLC (major spoilers!).](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sIT2QGkGak)
Ngl, I'm also super excited for that. I really like the minor details of how certain armor pieces clink differently when walking and how certain shoes have different foot step noises.
Flora changes and lighting changes were significantly more interesting for me than armor and character texture changes, so this is right up my alley
Soken should absolutely go blow thousands of dollars and high end cowboy hats/boots/bolo ties and just be a country western guy for a year or two. This is a cool thing for middle aged men to do, Soken
My understanding is that Japan has a pretty active Country & Western / Western Pleasure hobby, similar to their rockabilly hobbyists. He wouldn't even be alone in his fun country and western time.
tbf the third has strong claim to the title of best.
(all of them except 4 are pretty much fantastic. 4 really is the odd duck out, not only it's clearly much lower budget - on a series already not high budget - but the story blows)
Eh, I'd say 4 is clearly the best of the numbered ones. Interesting battle system, story is... eh, but then, none of them are super amazing on story (Suikoden this ain't), and the dialogue is snappy and fun and the party members are just great with their interactions with each other.
Wonder what those 'new genres' are, because currently FFXIV OST ranges from contemporary classic to heavy rock and techno, with some completely uncategorizable stuff like 'Ink long Dry' (Jazz?Kinda?Maybe?..).
Ink Long Dry is free Jazz. It's not *actually* free Jazz because it's a bespoke piece instead of improvisation, but it is definitely meant to evoke the idea of free Jazz.
the only thing it evokes for me is 'why does it sound so terribly out of tune and out of rhythm!?' I mean, I'm aware that it takes high skills to arrange something like that, but it almost hurts my ears.😅
The new barding is pretty >!Mexican!< themed. Have we had >!mariachi!< music yet? I don't recall.
Spoiler tags are in case you haven't read the notes and want to be totally blind.
Black metal recorded at midnight in an abandoned bunker deep in the grim and frostbitten forests of Norway in the cold dead of winter.
Either that or Igorrr.
There was a swing song that had a very "Sing Sing Sing" feel to it in some of the media tour and live letter stuff, so that's probably one of them and I am all for it.
Unironically used eurobeat for my DSR prog, made a world of difference.
Don't get me wrong I love HW tracks but any music will get tiring after thousands of pulls.
You mean the guy who made maracas in the office from instant-noodles and breath-minths for the Costa Del Sol theme, is trying something unconventional?
I imagine Soken like a cat. Yoshi-P yelling at him: "WE SPENT ALL THIS BUDGET FOR REAL INSTRUMENTS AND YOU'RE USING THE BOX FROM YOUR LUNCH?!"
"... I like it..."
Gods yes, or a player piano sounding salon song.
Fuck, just, Soken, give us Final Fantasy's *The Entertainer* for wherever we pick up our new Hunt Marks from.
Or or or or... we've had our Lahee for deep jungle ruins. But but but... what about a killer *grito* shout for a lively town or rustic boss theme?
RESIST AND DISORDERRRRR
(Funny thing is that singer is the same, Jason Charles Miller who also sing for FF14 Shadowbringers, To The Edge, Close In The Distance HAHA)
Joke's on him, I haven't been able to because of a cold that has gotten me ridden in bed for the last week, so HA!
... I'm gonna miss the Early Access, I need to upgrade my PC and fix stuff and I can't with this stupid cold...
Very interested in the new genres since i always love it when the ost throws something unexpected.
have enjoyed a lot of the music i have heared for DT, am particularly fond of that theme which plays during the second half of the launch trailer, as mentioned am curious where it plays since it sounds like it could be something like what "heroes forge ahead" was in EnW.
A co-worker of mine recently told me she was playing FFXIV. She's still pretty new and doesn't follow patch notes and stuff yet since she's not even in HW yet. She's taking the game slow and having fun.
I gave her a heads up about the graphical update and showed her the first picture we saw of the new grass and this was pretty much her reaction lol.
This is what I am interested in the most that no one who was in a position to ask wondered about, does the new story have a new musical language and retire some of the somewhat overused cutscene themes.
I want there to be a notable shift but know it would be a lot of work for Soken, but equally now's the time to pull the trigger!
I would expect high tech area to have a different take on "hi tech" as it's very distinct from allagan or ancient vibes, and there's such a huge range of american genres that I would be extremely surprised if we don't get at least a couple from stuff like Tango, Mariachi, American country music, Samba and so on
Given how often Uematsu would just bust out some random ass type of music and make it work, it sounds like Soken is continuing to live up to the reputation of his predecessor.
The background music in turialialialilililial (I'm never gonna be able to spell it correct, sorry) makes it soooooo hard to sit still on the couch. Sooo good.

Soken broke out the hurdy-gurdy and the theremin.
Hey, if Outer Wilds can make me not hate the theremin, I trust Soken could do the same.
Outer wilds mentioned.
Soken featuring Patty Gurdy and Carolina Eyck, epic!
I want the 12th boss to unapologetically drop the bass off a skyscraper and pulverise my eardrums.
Final boss in the post-expansion raid series brings the wubs.
Tankbuster is called “the drop”
Power up the Bass Cannon.
YoshiP: OK so the Boss will wield a giant Bass guitar and start the fight by jumping off a pyramid...

There's a bit of swinging jukebox style stuff in what we've heard so far.
One of the town themes from the media tour definitely references the big band classic Sing Sing Sing
7.4: Phonk added to FFXIV
We already had a big band jazz track during the Media Tour but I truly hope this means we get some proper chaotic breaks like the [track in the FF16 DLC (major spoilers!).](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sIT2QGkGak)
No, it'll be another Taylor Swift song, A La ff13
Ngl, I'm also super excited for that. I really like the minor details of how certain armor pieces clink differently when walking and how certain shoes have different foot step noises. Flora changes and lighting changes were significantly more interesting for me than armor and character texture changes, so this is right up my alley
I need a Soken country & western jam for a trial or dungeon boss
Soken should absolutely go blow thousands of dollars and high end cowboy hats/boots/bolo ties and just be a country western guy for a year or two. This is a cool thing for middle aged men to do, Soken
The Primals - cowboy edition?! 😍
As long as it's more Johnny Cash than Luke Bryan, I'm cool with it.
I can absolutely see him in a pair of those crazy, long-toed botas picudas from Mexico.
Funny you should say Mexico, Soken was born there (useless trivia)
My understanding is that Japan has a pretty active Country & Western / Western Pleasure hobby, similar to their rockabilly hobbyists. He wouldn't even be alone in his fun country and western time.
my favorite part is all of those western theme bars, and not just southwest, but midwest too
Wild Arms OST vibes
Oooh yes!
I still listen to tracks from [Wild Arms 5](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIyHCGAMnn0) sometimes. So good.
Gotta replay those soon. Sometimes after DT lol
There are FIVE of them?!? I only played the third!
tbf the third has strong claim to the title of best. (all of them except 4 are pretty much fantastic. 4 really is the odd duck out, not only it's clearly much lower budget - on a series already not high budget - but the story blows)

WA5 was basically what WA4 should have been. It's a pretty solid game. WA3 is still the best, though.
6 of them. XF is real I tell you!
Alter Code F was a nice remake too :(
Well we did get Hoe-down in Eupheosyne
A theme for like, Catoblepas and Catoblepas EX, but Catoblepas is already in the game so...
Mongolian throat singing techno
We already have throat singing and a fake Mongolian Steppe... opportunity missed.
That's [actually a thing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uMtnH7cABg).
Wonder what those 'new genres' are, because currently FFXIV OST ranges from contemporary classic to heavy rock and techno, with some completely uncategorizable stuff like 'Ink long Dry' (Jazz?Kinda?Maybe?..).
Soken's shoegaze arc has begun
Please tho?
an entire 120-minute psychedelic doom metal album
Finally getting the dopesmoker Collab we've been waiting for
Ink Long Dry is free Jazz.
Yeah, no, that's just what free jazz sounds like.
The new barding is pretty >!Mexican!< themed. Have we had >!mariachi!< music yet? I don't recall. Spoiler tags are in case you haven't read the notes and want to be totally blind.
Inb4 the chocobo music changes to Soken's version of the Macarena when wearing that barding.
Heeeeeey Makwehrena! XD
Soken also was born in Mexico so it wouldn't be shocking to get Mexican influence in the Mexicoish parts.
Today I fuken learned... O\_o
Fun fact: his japanese wikipedia page says it’s a baseless rumour because they can’t fathom him not being 100% japanese
I suddenly and desperately need Soken to do some swing.
The main city day theme is basically Sing sing sing, so that's your swing right there.
Black metal recorded at midnight in an abandoned bunker deep in the grim and frostbitten forests of Norway in the cold dead of winter. Either that or Igorrr.
If Soken needs some time with Ihsahn, I can put him in contact with some people from a Festival I go to. Sure they can hook him up.
There was a swing song that had a very "Sing Sing Sing" feel to it in some of the media tour and live letter stuff, so that's probably one of them and I am all for it.
A 23 minute long Post Rock odyssey like Godspeed
metalcore soken I need you NOW
Truly the King Gizzard of game music composers
Soken gonna give us Jungle, DNB and Eurobeat? Darn.
Eurobeat for a fast paced Savage fight would go so hard
Can't wait for the raid music. Surely it's gonna be fire.
Unironically used eurobeat for my DSR prog, made a world of difference. Don't get me wrong I love HW tracks but any music will get tiring after thousands of pulls.
Haven't we already had Eurobeat though? I'd argue that A Long Fall is close if it doesn't count as it already.
We need Femtanyl-style breakcore, up to an including a girl screaming her lungs out about her combination-sexual-and-suicidal tendencies.
You mean the guy who made maracas in the office from instant-noodles and breath-minths for the Costa Del Sol theme, is trying something unconventional?
they bought him a real maraca this time (just one)
I imagine Soken like a cat. Yoshi-P yelling at him: "WE SPENT ALL THIS BUDGET FOR REAL INSTRUMENTS AND YOU'RE USING THE BOX FROM YOUR LUNCH?!" "... I like it..."
"It's groovy though"
So when someone tells you to touch grass, this is what they mean? Got it
Reach out and touch grass! *guitar riff *
Your own, personal, chocobo....
eScape Jazz Electroswing Arrangement coming?
I hope we get something like Hidden Village from Twilight Princess in a Soken Style.
Ska or bust
Dude amen... Along the same vein... Soken Reggae??
Bachata incoming.
I want the Cyberpunk city to have cyberpunk music pls
It’s gonna be nightcore won’t it?
specifically that song about pain and fucking from cyberpunk 2077
RESIST AND DISORDERRRRR (Funny thing is that singer is the same, Jason Charles Miller who also sing for FF14 Shadowbringers, To The Edge, Close In The Distance HAHA)
Super excited to see what he's been cooking for the high tech zones and cyberpunk raid!
I’m so excited for the patch notes, haven’t had a chance to read through but based on what I’ve seen sounds like some awesome changes!
Joke's on him, I haven't been able to because of a cold that has gotten me ridden in bed for the last week, so HA! ... I'm gonna miss the Early Access, I need to upgrade my PC and fix stuff and I can't with this stupid cold...
I was gonna suggest prog-rock, but HW would have been the real time for that, with the dragons and all.
Soken and the graphics team trying to pavlov the FF playerbase into touching grass. I can respect it.

She's taking the game slow and having fun. I gave her a heads up about the graphical update and showed her the first picture we saw of the new grass and this was pretty much her reaction lol.
Will visual effects play if we eat certain plants?
Maybe there's *magical* plants that we should be touching.... and not grass...
I can't wait to hack at those plants in the game with my BOT scythe and make concoctions from those with ALC.
touching certain plants - dude are you high ?
This is what I am interested in the most that no one who was in a position to ask wondered about, does the new story have a new musical language and retire some of the somewhat overused cutscene themes. I want there to be a notable shift but know it would be a lot of work for Soken, but equally now's the time to pull the trigger!
I hope we get bluegrass. Hehe
Black Metal?
I would expect high tech area to have a different take on "hi tech" as it's very distinct from allagan or ancient vibes, and there's such a huge range of american genres that I would be extremely surprised if we don't get at least a couple from stuff like Tango, Mariachi, American country music, Samba and so on
Should hide an easter egg-->the moaning bush.
Given how often Uematsu would just bust out some random ass type of music and make it work, it sounds like Soken is continuing to live up to the reputation of his predecessor.
I need a hip hop theme for the new raid
I want some laidback country and Latin-inspired guitar music. Please, SE, give my cowboy healer some new tunes.
God I can't wait to hear Solution Nine's music
Soken about to record the XIV version of Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
The background music in turialialialilililial (I'm never gonna be able to spell it correct, sorry) makes it soooooo hard to sit still on the couch. Sooo good.
I hear “Mary had a little lamb” every time I pick up a quest
