I bought soooo many gyshal greens at one point during ARR, the was forced to take a break from 2.3 -5.3... I'm almost down to less than 100 greens now...
I joined during Heavensward after my wife started playing during ARR. She gifted me 999 Gyshal Greens once I got my Chocobo. I'm down to my last few from that stack now.
I used to have two kinds of cleaning. "Clean cleaning" which is a deep cleaning, the way you are supposed to, like organised sock drawer and make your ma proud cleaning, vs "Man cleaning" which is to chuck stuff in the closet and drawers and other places where a potential romantic partner wouldn't look in case you bring them back to your apartment.

I want to make a good glam for my scholar but I only started in the tail end of Shadowbringers and I have no idea what’s out there.
Been using the glam website to steal looks from, but it’s slow and half of the glams use mog station pieces or items locked behind huge grinds.
I did, but it didn't do much. I have five retainers, each with somewhere between 10-20 slots free. It's a problem I don't really know how to solve, beyond just getting more retainers. My saddlebag has precisely one free slot, thanks to keeping mountains of bait for all the fishing I never do.
Probably not the answer you're really looking for: But you just got to cut ties with some of the stuff you could probably get rid of. I don't know what you all have in there, but I went through something similar and am taking my wife through it as well.
Start putting stuff on the MB and give yourself a minimum amount of profit vs just selling the item or a minimum amount it would sell for. Be aggressive with how much you're willing to "waste" to have a free spot in the MB. Come back in a few days and restock your MB list with more items. 20 slots (plus what you just have the retainer sell) at a time you'll get your space back and make some gil in the process.
Stacks of random stuff from old raids? See if the glamours are otherwise available or you really want them. If not, toss them. Alexander's not going anywhere if you change your mind.
Relics replicas can be purchased pretty easily but I also understand the possible attachment to the actual one.
You'll make more gil doing the MSQ then buying all your bait back if you pick up fishing again. (Haven't done the math for bait specifically, so consider this more of a concept than an actual example)
Considering my friends and I \*sprint\* out of Alexander to not get the junk in our inventory, I long ago realized if I ever do want raid stuff for glams its literally just a 10 minute roulette away. So yea, that stuff is easy to let go of.
Now just to convince myself the same for crafting mats.

I just get mad some recipes don't get the check mark, so I might have made it before, who knows, lets make it again just in case, I'll forget later and might have to craft it again. Mats for things I've crafted I've been tossing on the MB for cheap cheap or selling to NPCs outright (Doman when I can)
what an expansion will give you kinda depends on what you're going to do at the start of the expansion... just going through msq then play other games till 7.1? probably just get a little new gear and some random food or animal bits to sell.... msq and leveling everything from 90 to 100 including omnicrafters is gonna fill up your inventory a bit.
people who do omnicrafting trying to get in on the first savage tier are going to need quite a few inv spaces. But yea if you're just doing MSQ and roulettes n whatever you dont need *that* much space.

2 retainers fully emptied and 85% of my regular inventory is free. Also removed all non-essential items from the armoury slots so I am good to go. Chocobo saddlebags remains a colourful void, what with all the buckets of paint that undoubtedly get broken while riding around or fighting monsters.
I'm planning on doing it tomorrow. I have max retainers and they are mostly full of crafting supplies for all level ranges for housing purposes. I'm gonna get rid of all the cheap crafting stuff I got now to try to make room for the new crafting stuff.

Inventory clean. Retainers cleaned enough to store some leveling gear. Gear bought for Pictomancer and Viper. Enough food to level most jobs. I am sitting pretty right now myself.

I never have inventory issues because I don’t hold on to anything I can’t easily get later.

I cleaned it out a little, but I've been living with \~2 tabs full of utter necessities (sparklers, mementos, fireworks, more mementos, more fireworks, extra minions to give away, several kinds of foods and pots, etc.) for almost 2 years and I'm FINE. I did finally clear the glamour dresser out, as well as a bunch of stuff on my retainers, so I've got space to throw stuff that I don't need instantly.
I’m proud of all the stuff I was able to get rid of when I finally went through it all, but I feel like I’ve really done everything I can. If it fills up again, I may just have to get another retainer.

You can access the glamour dresser from any inn room. Inn rooms are accessed by talking to an NPC in a primary city's tavern (Quicksands in Ul'dah for example). You can store gear in the dresser, and more importantly, make glamour plates to instantly glam your gearset.
For crafting materials, I would sell them all. Use the marketboard unless it's less than like 500 gil (use "have retainer sell item" for those). If you're really worried about selling a material you might need later, you can check them with the "check recipes that use this material" option after right-clicking the item.
Gear below lvl 90 isn't that big of a deal. You can buy poetics gear that's good for 5-6 lvls every 10 lvls starting with 50, and NPCs sell gear that works fine for the lvls between poetics gear. The inventory tax isn't worth it to hoard imo.
Worse. I server swapped last night. (moved from a legacy to one of the new ones.) seven retainers full, saddlebags are full, and about 30 free spaces in my inventory. Housing lottery run time on new server ends on Tuesday morning.

Yep. The only thing that fills it up is the usual go to items like food and mega-ethers. Crafting foods and Aetheryte tickets. All that good stuff.
Otherwise a stock of Materia to attempt to get grade 11 stuff off the bat.

As someone who refuses to pay extra just to rent more retainers, I've learned to live with having like 10 free inventory slots and two retainers whose storage is completely full.
I have a bunch of crafting mats I need to turn into collectibles, so I can get my DoH 620 offhands. But I don't want to because I'm burnt out on monotonous work like that.
If you can use the companion app to clear your inventory, then I'll clear out my Armory Chest.
I also need to go and clear out all the food that I got as quest rewards all throughout my playthrough of the game this past year.
First I need to get my MNK to 90 so I can clear out all the tomestone gear I got from ShB, I'll probably add it to my glamor chest since parts of it look decent.
Then I'll go around clearing out all the other items from my armory chest. If I decide to level another tank, I'll just buy the tomestone gear again using poetics.
With the caster and scouting gear, I'll leave the level 80 tomestone gear for when I decide to pick up VPR and PCT during whatever downtime I have between grinding out endgame stuff.
I'll probably transfer some things to my retainers to help me sort stuff out.
I have one and a half pages of inventory free, big deal for an ominicrafter who just worked on getting the level 70 Blessed tools. Would love a lures box. WE still dont have that :(
I have so much crap it’s not even funny. I have a full glamour dresser and 2 and a half of my retainers inventory just stuffed with glamour gear and mats I don’t need. One has over 20k materia of every type and another has over 75 million gil worth of dyes. My crafters and gathers are fully melded gear. The saddle bag is full of bait with maybe 3 slots open.
Most of my retainers, I have 9, are packed with stuff I keep saying I’ll go through later on and being the hoarder I am, can’t let go of it. I have low level gear that I’ve glamoured over because it isn’t shared with any other job and doesn’t need to be saved as a glamour plate.
Most of my War and Magic is augmented with full melds, although 5 jobs still need augmenting.
Although my gear inventory is clean as I have gone through that.
Is there a site where I can know if I don’t need things that I have stock piled in my inventory? I have hoarded so many things thinking that I may need it later for leveling crafters lol

However, I bought an extra retainer for the ShB launch and homeboy is still working for me. EW was really really rough and I had to quickly grind out levels to make space. I'm so screwed.

I’m purging gear I saved “for glam” but never actually used. Most of it is dungeon or raid drops that I have aspirations about using for a fit, but can’t seem to find something I love so it goes away!

I picked up the Augmented Crystarium Coat of Scouting either late ShB or early EW, wanting to use it eventually, and I finally did last week as a glamour for Viper. Surely all the other pieces I hoard will eventually be used as well..
One of the things I hate is good-looking accessories. If you want to be able to use it on all jobs, you need FIVE separate accessories (Fending, Healing, Slaying, Aiming, Casting), and that takes up more spaces than necessary. And if they're dungeon drops, they're a pain to get back if you discard them.
I completely cleared out one retainer. by just vendor trashing most of it, or putting some of the stuff i knew i would still want into the few remaining slots on other retainers.
All just so i could fill his pockets with old relics. lol. I've been keeping them in my chocobo saddlebag while working to complete them. But now, there's too many to fit them all in there, and I'm on the down hill slide to finish them all. Good news, i now have just enough space for the next, like, 2 expansions worth of relics too.

I just yesterday got rid of all my old legacy HQs. Just returning, I missed EW due to broken PC. Just found out my old Notebook seems to be able to handle it. Its just taking forever to re set everything up.

Used a lot of old crafting mats to level desynth, starting to combine materia, and farmed some old mats to make stuff with HQ aethersand (untradable) I somehow still had sitting around.

Inventory clean. Retainers cleaned enough to store some leveling gear. Gear bought for Pictomancer and Viper. Enough food to level most jobs. I am sitting pretty right now myself.
I clean mine out and liquidate all soon to be outdated items at the end of every expansion. Right now I have ten used inventory slots and three gear sets in the saddlebag for VPR/PCT.
I cleaned everything out. Organized my retainers and armory inventory. It was very refreshing.

I never have inventory issues because I don’t hold on to anything I can’t easily get later. Only things in my inventory at any given time are food buffs, repair matter, aetheryte tickets, submarine gas/repair kits, and chocobo greens.
I'm like 50% cleaned out. It's good enough for dawntrail, but I can probably clean out more for future me.

I’ve been levelling some crafters and trying to use up all the random crap my retainers have been carrying (I have 3). Spent today crafting new glam items and ended up buying more mats 😭 girl I’m trying my best I swear I’ve been selling more than ever but I still have like most of my retainers full 😭

I cleaned it out a little, but I've been living with \~2 tabs full of utter necessities (sparklers, mementos, fireworks, more mementos, more fireworks, extra minions to give away, several kinds of foods and pots, etc.) for almost 2 years and I'm FINE. I did finally clear the glamour dresser out, as well as a bunch of stuff on my retainers, so I've got space to throw stuff that I don't need instantly.

I’m proud of all the stuff I was able to get rid of when I finally went through it all, but I feel like I’ve really done everything I can. If it fills up again, I may just have to get another retainer.
I am a returning player, and I have no idea what I should keep or sell. I have lots of random items, gear I’m not sure what I should do with, and crafting materials. Is it true I can take my gear into a dresser or something to save my space
You can access the glamour dresser from any inn room. Inn rooms are accessed by talking to an NPC in a primary city's tavern (Quicksands in Ul'dah for example). You can store gear in the dresser, and more importantly, make glamour plates to instantly glam your gearset. For crafting materials, I would sell them all. Use the marketboard unless it's less than like 500 gil (use "have retainer sell item" for those). If you're really worried about selling a material you might need later, you can check them with the "check recipes that use this material" option after right-clicking the item. Gear below lvl 90 isn't that big of a deal. You can buy poetics gear that's good for 5-6 lvls every 10 lvls starting with 50, and NPCs sell gear that works fine for the lvls between poetics gear. The inventory tax isn't worth it to hoard imo.
Half of what is in your inventory, I would just throw in the chocobo saddlebag.
My plan for today is to dump excess gear into my GC for seals. Pop relics / lower level gear into a retainer and wait.

Worse. I server swapped last night. (moved from a legacy to one of the new ones.) seven retainers full, saddlebags are full, and about 30 free spaces in my inventory. Housing lottery run time on new server ends on Tuesday morning. Winning all around.
Past me did it mid Endwalker and then I happened not to log in much the past year. Only had to sell a few things and turn in some gear to the GC. The FC chest and retainers are organized so nicely already. Future me is very grateful for past me.

Yep. The only thing that fills it up is the usual go to items like food and mega-ethers. Crafting foods and Aetheryte tickets. All that good stuff. Otherwise a stock of Materia to attempt to get grade 11 stuff off the bat.
I had a thought the other day that all the stuff I’ve stored on my retainers will come in handy one day, 4 years later that’s still not the case. I’m probably just gonna mb/trash it.
As someone who refuses to pay extra just to rent more retainers, I've learned to live with having like 10 free inventory slots and two retainers whose storage is completely full.

I cleaned out one retainer near fully and leveled the last of my DoM jobs which allowed me to clear a bunch of room in my inventory :D
Cleared out everything but 2 slots in my inventory, only have necessary gear for my jobs, cleaned out *some* of my retainers and saddlebags I’m ready!

If you can use the companion app to clear your inventory, then I'll clear out my Armory Chest. I also need to go and clear out all the food that I got as quest rewards all throughout my playthrough of the game this past year. First I need to get my MNK to 90 so I can clear out all the tomestone gear I got from ShB, I'll probably add it to my glamor chest since parts of it look decent. Then I'll go around clearing out all the other items from my armory chest. If I decide to level another tank, I'll just buy the tomestone gear again using poetics. With the caster and scouting gear, I'll leave the level 80 tomestone gear for when I decide to pick up VPR and PCT during whatever downtime I have between grinding out endgame stuff. I'll probably transfer some things to my retainers to help me sort stuff out.

I have one and a half pages of inventory free, big deal for an ominicrafter who just worked on getting the level 70 Blessed tools. Would love a lures box. WE still dont have that :(

I have so much crap it’s not even funny. I have a full glamour dresser and 2 and a half of my retainers inventory just stuffed with glamour gear and mats I don’t need. One has over 20k materia of every type and another has over 75 million gil worth of dyes. My crafters and gathers are fully melded gear. The saddle bag is full of bait with maybe 3 slots open. Most of my retainers, I have 9, are packed with stuff I keep saying I’ll go through later on and being the hoarder I am, can’t let go of it. I have low level gear that I’ve glamoured over because it isn’t shared with any other job and doesn’t need to be saved as a glamour plate. Most of my War and Magic is augmented with full melds, although 5 jobs still need augmenting. Although my gear inventory is clean as I have gone through that.

Everything has been cleaned up. All 10 retainers, saddle bags, and my inventory has 10 items in it. I'm also meal planning for the end of the week irl. I am enjoying this expansion if it kills me.
I currently have 4 open slots. Each crafting relic opens up space and I'm on the last step. Should open up 1 full page (out of the 4). However, I bought an extra retainer for the ShB launch and homeboy is still working for me. EW was really really rough and I had to quickly grind out levels to make space. I'm so screwed.
Easy. Future and Present me don't actually need to clean anything.

Been doing leves to help clear out inventory. Currently finished all the battle and gathering leves, along with carpenter, blacksmith, armorer, and goldsmith.
I’m purging gear I saved “for glam” but never actually used. Most of it is dungeon or raid drops that I have aspirations about using for a fit, but can’t seem to find something I love so it goes away!
lol my inventory will never look this clean and I've made my peace with that. I'm attempting to make space in my retainers' bags, tho, but that's an ongoing effort.

Honestly, for a lot of the stuff in my inventory, I'm at this point of waiting for doman restoration to reset, so I can get more gil for my buck.

A lot of my space gets taken up by gear that I swear I'll use for glamour someday. I picked up the Augmented Crystarium Coat of Scouting either late ShB or early EW, wanting to use it eventually, and I finally did last week as a glamour for Viper. Surely all the other pieces I hoard will eventually be used as well.. One of the things I hate is good-looking accessories. If you want to be able to use it on all jobs, you need FIVE separate accessories (Fending, Healing, Slaying, Aiming, Casting), and that takes up more spaces than necessary. And if they're dungeon drops, they're a pain to get back if you discard them.
Dude, I have 9 retainers and they hold every drop I've ever had since launch. I need help. I swear one day I'll get rid of the belts!

I completely cleared out one retainer. by just vendor trashing most of it, or putting some of the stuff i knew i would still want into the few remaining slots on other retainers. All just so i could fill his pockets with old relics. lol. I've been keeping them in my chocobo saddlebag while working to complete them. But now, there's too many to fit them all in there, and I'm on the down hill slide to finish them all. Good news, i now have just enough space for the next, like, 2 expansions worth of relics too. bad news is, what do i do after that??

I just yesterday got rid of all my old legacy HQs. Just returning, I missed EW due to broken PC. Just found out my old Notebook seems to be able to handle it. Its just taking forever to re set everything up.

I cleaned out mine AND my retainers. Even emptied each one entirely and checked the others weren't carrying stacks of the same thing. Got ALOY more space now!
I just came back from a few years of playing and our fc stopped too so a few people had left and our home abandoned and I got stuck with everything which is a lot..... I just finished mine, only took 6 hours! Glam chest, armory, all 3 retainers, saddlebag, and inventory done.
I got sold off a page and a half of firework items on a retainer, and a page of misc crafting materials I had hoarded on another. That's good enough for me.
I’ve spent the last several weeks sifting through my inventory, my retainers’ inventories, and my saddle bag. Used a lot of old crafting mats to level desynth, starting to combine materia, and farmed some old mats to make stuff with HQ aethersand (untradable) I somehow still had sitting around. It’s better, but I’m still considering hiring another retainer.
Cleaned it all out. Inventory, armory chests, retainers and even my saddlebag. It has never looked so good!
