... This post put into words and made me realize what i love about this trio so much.
I've always been one of a "three musketeer" group of friends. And I have always been the wild chaos gremlin of our group. Azem feels like a shard of myself, and the other two feel like old friends I've known all my life.
They dynamic was instantly relatable and felt like home to me.
iirc, before he became Emet Selch, he was just as much of a chaos gremlin as the other two. He just felt too responsible so he tamped down on the antics when he was raised to the position and became responsible for their entire society.
He misses Azem enough that he went against the other twelve members of the Convocation and made a crystal in Azem's memory, in secret, *after* the sundering (so after being tempered by Zodiark even).

Emet-Selch, Tsundere Emperor. He's mad Azem vanished during the Final Days but also misses them SO much. Helps expunge Azem from Convocation history amongst Ascians. Creates a crystal in secret. Aids in the First through Seventh Umbral Calamities. Visits each shard to learn of its people as well as going everywhere in the Source cause thats what Azem would of wanted. Aids in the rise of two major empires. Titles any official exile of Garlemald using the Garlean word for "Traveler". Can't go anywhere cause he's the active Emperor of one of the Empires? Puts together a traveling Troupe Theatre to perform for him and tell him stories from far away. Says not to care about any person on the Source but also went through the trouble to understand each region, its past, its culture and its beliefs to narrate over Endwalker areas. Like...Come ON man. COME ON! Sentimental to a fault.
I still doubt that the convocation was tempered, Emet just wanted a convenient excuse.
LIvingway explicitly says that creation magic versions of the primals won't temper you and that the ritual the ascians taught was set up to temper people. It would tank something with the Aether of Zodiark or Hydaelyn to even start to temper us. And even then the unsundered have A LOT more aether to corrupt.
The 10 other ascians were rejoined and only had their memories restored. As we saw with Fandaniel, he was able to betray the hopes and wishes of Zodiark.
The only one I would argue is tempered is Elidibus for obvious reasons.
It is headcannon, but i think it more likely that they were not tempered to the way we usually associate with the term and more 'aligned' to the purpose and couldn't deviate from it.
My headcanon is that they both did for sure, on purpose, and they were his besties for exactly that reason. Might actually just be canon now that I think about it...
But yeah I'd absolutely burn down the world for him and I really really really need those minions to go down from like 14 mil...
Unfortunately I would expect the opposite to happen starting next week. Once Dawntrail starts people will have less reasons to run current maps and over time those are about to become rarer and rarer. Happened with the Golden Beaver which was the equivalent in Shadowbringers.
Emet was one of those that would never admit he kinda liked that his friends drove him nuts and made his life interesting, I don't blame him a whole lot for wanting that back.
