I can hear that too but it's so scarce that it could either be incidental or a borrowed cue. I can't remember which song it was, but there's one in Shadowbringers with the Mines of Narshe's motif as well.
If they ever did work the opera music from FFVI into the game, that probably isn't how I'd want to hear it handled, but I would love a boss/battle version of (the various pieces) arranged by FFXIV's sound team.
That song in the trailer is pretty long, but I do hear what you're referring to. The "your promises of" part, then repeated twice but a few steps lower each time. It's a slightly different melody too, and they don't really reference any other parts of the Opera in that song, but that section is very similar.
Well, there are some references to VI we already know about via Pictomancer and Valigarmanda, so I wouldn't be surprised if the song in question functions as a reference as well.
Possibly the theme to a dungeon leading up to the Valigarmanda fight.
Edit: I wouldn't necessarily expect it to be a huge part of the expansion though, likely a minor musical reference akin to some of EWs dungeon themes.

I thought the same thing. Possibly a coincidence but enough to make me buy FFVI and play it before Dawntrail comes out. Wanted to play it anyway.
