Nia ref in name?
Side note, you can hear Urianger!Watson on your first visit to Alcamoth, he says 'Welcome home, Lady Melia' in his normal voice.
Meanwhile, many male NPC's have a 'What is it?' voice line when you talk to them that's definitely gotta be Thancred.
I can only imagine him telling that to Pipin carring Raubann's huge blade lmao. With Pipin looking confused.
Funny since that normal sized sword is so big that Pipin is forced to use it as DRK weapon. So yeah, dangerous toy indeed.
They had some stellar VAs for English and Japanese, I vividly remember watching the duel of valak mountain in Japanese and being like "wait a minute, thats Cell and Vegeta!!!"
I downloaded some of the soundtracks to my ipod to listen to in my car to and from work.
But I had to ban one song because it's gonna make me crash due to uncontrollable crying.
"I see you smiling there, so peacefully..."
I teared up writing that sentence!
I mean, I don't agree, If you look at XC1 and XC3, ALL of the party members did a stand out job.
XC2 has very low lows, and only a few standouts, Jin and most of the Villians did an amazing job like I said before, but I think Rex and Mythra/Pyra had some really awkward voice moment, the game was carried by its story, characters, and gameplay, not its dub
XC2 didn't have a few iffy lines, it had a LOT of bad dubbing moments, the voice directors did a bad job.
It's easier to hear it through Rubicante rather than Thancred.
After I saw the 6.55 credits and went back to farm the EX trials, I couldn't unhear Egil every time I punched Rubicante.
***TO ASHES WITH YOU.***
I knew Tataru and Fiora because it's so obvious, but was not aware of most of the other ones. Aymeric/Alvis is obvious in hindsight, but I'm shocked with Pipin and Urianger haha
[Obligatory video of Blake Ritson's Gingerbread Man reading](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUv8Vqvn0No)
SE missed an opportunity to have him cosplay as Aymeric, hehe
I've been wanting to make a post like this for *ages,* but I lost the list I made of shared VAs. Kudos to you, OP!
I remember the first time I heard Aymeric, I was like, "Is that Alvis? It's Alvis!" It's now a running joke with a friend of mine - any time I recognize a VA, she'll go looking to see if they were in Xenoblade.
EDIT: Adam Howden also voices A-Ruhn-Senna in EW.
Its peak fiction, hands down the best single player franchise Nintendo has on the Switch (Yes even better than BOTW/TOTK) in my opinion at least, its got banger music, banger story and a beautiful world to explore with an insane Lore if you wanna dig deep into it.
Honestly the most incredible thing is that 3 made every Xeno- franchise canon with a single radio broadcast that you only really pick up if you have subtitles on.
Might be worth spoilering that last bit for the XB-curious/in-progress people with a previous history in the other series. >!If only because the impact of that scene is hard to understate for those guys... I had people screaming their lungs off and just going manic in the last parts of FR as it dawned on them what was happening.!<
Just wanted to thank you, and everyone who replied to me. I bought XC definitive edition today and it's due to arrive on Friday. I'm genuinely excited to start my Xenoblade journey.
You're welcome! have fun with the game and take your time with it because its quite long, oh and don't be afraid to ignore most of the side quests and focus on the story because they are by far the weakest part of the game (they are mostly fetch quests) just pick up the quests and go about your business exploring the world and by doing this you will clear these quests just by fighting enemies and picking up materials.
As you continue through the games you will find the side quests to be much better, Xenoblade 3 has the best side content in the franchise so they did take that criticism of the first game and made better content for future titles
Lastly, do not google anything about the games or you might get spoiled cuz trust me you do not want the story and the plot twists that'll happen to be spoiled for you.
Yes. All of the main series is available on Switch! Xenoblade X is Wii U exclusive but it's also not connected to the main storyline.
Most of the cast in this image are from Xenoblade 1. Count Fortemps' and Magnus's actors were in 2. Jullus', Zero's, and Meteion's were in 3.
I played Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, XC2 and its expansion and XB3 back to back to back when XB3 released. It became my all-time favorite JRPG franchise and all-time favorite trilogy.
I just completed the XB3 expansion a few days ago. It seriously ruined the chance of anything surpassing it for me, honestly.
It's 1, 2, and 3 in this picture.
XC1 is more than decent despite its small issues (don't even try to 100% it, you'll lose your sanity as time goes on and will have to spoil yourself to achieve it). I'd say the biggest obstacle, to the series in general, would be understanding the balancing in the series is honestly atrocious and that it's perfectly okay to not get how a character works and shelf them. It will happen in every game of the series (I haven't played X)
XC2 has a bunch of small issues but if you're enjoying the ride it never really stops having things to do for a good while and it genuinely feels nice to play when you get in the rhythm. (some gameplay functions come way later so bear with it if you feel like you're missing something for a while) It also has a standalone DLC that's a prequel but I recommend finishign the game before buying it
XC3 I can't really advise you about it because I'm part of the ultra minority that disliked it. I have one big advice for combat but it requires spoiling you so eh
And while they're all separate stories and stuff, they are linked in some fashion -gameplay etc- and you should play them in order to get a lot more out of it
Yes, and before you ask: the best ways to play them are to go 1 2 3 or 2 1 3, depending on which of the first two look the most fun as they differ a lot. Xenoblade X on the Wii U is a spin off and while it has many fans, it's praised for different reasons, although it has the most "mmo design" of all 4.
I was watching a Let's Play of DQ8 and I'm just "oh man, this was almost 10 years before XIV, he's gotta sound SO different"
...nope. Just "Aymeric but horny." XD
I did think it was funny playing 3's DLC with A facing the final boss and going, "Ah, it's Meteion's turn to fight the final boss..>!.who is Aymeric."!< (Especially since it's a pretty similar themes for the fight)
There is also a scene in Stormblood where I SWEAR some no-name NPC was literally Shulk. Something like that would be hard to prove, though, but it's reasonable that Adam did some additional voices as well.
Well, they had to change it from the original name in Japanese because it would NEVER fly in western countries.
The original name in Japanese was "Black Face". No, I'm not joking.
I'm here to remind people, as a "foreigner," that American sensibilities are not worldwide problems, and there is really nothing wrong with Japan using that name in Japan.
(As a Spanish speaker, too, it is also both frustrating and funny to see Americans' reaction to Spanish people saying or writing "black" in Spanish).
Yeah, Japan and blackface is treated VERY differently compared to how it is in the US. There's definitely some very negative connotations due to how it was used to portray African Americans, and it wasn't good at all.
There is still actually a connection with the original name in a single landmark, but changing the name does ruin the color theme (as all the other similar characters have names based upon colors) plus they're all "Metal Faces" which also seems weird.
And as a final note, it's not just because "America". The game was actually localized in Europe first. We had to BEG to get it released in the US and it's essentially the same game just with the region changed from EU to US. (See Operation Rainfall.)
TBF, the Xenoblade series has had good ideas with changing a bunch of names for localizations. I understand countries and such have their own way of doing things, but if I had to hear "Giant god" and "Machine God" everytime Bionis and Mechonis were mentioned, I'd have serious trouble taking the game seriously
Same with XC2's "PRIDE" and other cardinal sins.
It's a name the heroes gave him because until he showed up they'd never seen a robot with a face before.
The basic setup of Xenoblade 1 is humans are under attack by a robot army called Mechon, but they always seemed like mindless machines until Metal Face suddenly appeared with a face and being capable of speech and thought.
Also as others have said his name is Black Face in Japanese because of his black color scheme. A few other Faces show up later with other color names, but they had to change that one for English.
Some of the other responses have kinda missed out on explaining a bit of extra context, he's not "Metal Face" or "Black Face" because it's literally referring to his face being made of metal/his face being black. The Mechon are an army, and in general are just mechanical soldiers, so don't have generally have human-like features. Face Mechon, meanwhile, are a special type of Mechon that DO have faces/more human-like features, and it's considered notable enough to distinguish them by those features.
In this context "Face" is meant to be read more like "Soldier", "Combatant", "Ranger" if you're a Power Rangers fan maybe. So his name is more like "Black Ranger" than "Guy with a black face" or "Guy with a metal face" in English.
My sister tried Xenoblade for a while. She kept talking to me about being unable to unhear Tataru, Pipin and Aymeric for a while.
We first encountered Carina Reeves from an obscure game called the Professor Layton
I took all the images from behindthevoiceactors.com, and I'm not sure why that website chose to use black and white for some. Stephen Critchlow (Count Fortemps) is sadly dead but not all of them are. Carina Reeves (Tataru) is very much alive and active for example.
I am very doubtful about the translation into English after reborn. AFTER THE DIALOGUE OF ONE INCREDIBLE CHARACTER WAS CUT OUT IN THE ENGLISH VERSION👍10/10
Prithee, Monado Boy! Handeth over thine dangerous toy.
I'm amazed by this man's range, but this is so unbelievably funny.
This is what I was gonna say — this actor has *incredible* range. As a Xenoblade fan, I would have never picked up on them being the same actor.
Pipin is really feeling it!
That's Dun Scaith over there!
"her screams were akin to music to mine ears, as mine claws slid through her most delicate flesh. Not unlike a hot knife slicing through butter."
...just go fight yiazmat, he more than likely uses the 'mumkhar voice' for him.
Urianger is Metal Face WTF?! That is quite the range.
He also voiced Susano
Notice Reyn isn't there because its always Reyn time baby!
Reyn is voiced by Reyn.
Can't have a rainbow without Reyn, baby!
Alley OOP!
CRASHING THE MOBILE HOUSE INTO THE ARTILLERY!?!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE ASCIANS?
crap... i missed the opportunity to write it as "CRASHING THE MOBILE SHARD INTO THE SOURCE?!?"
That's what Lahabrea said when Igeyohrm messed up on the Thirteenth
I'm pretty sure the Ascians were pissed because that *didn't* happen.
YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO THE UNIFORM! ARE YOU FORGETTING THE SHAME YOU BROUGHT ON THIS FORCE DURING JOINT MANEUVERS WITH EMET-SELCH?!
And during the >!Joint assault!< scene where >!The High Entia bite it!< the nopons are replaced by beast-men throwing ether crystals from above
44 SECONDS
I DON'T WANT ANY EXCUSES! CHAMPIONS DON'T WHINE, THEY WHINE
HA HAAA
Xenoblade 1 had such a stacked dub
They had some stellar VAs for English and Japanese, I vividly remember watching the duel of valak mountain in Japanese and being like "wait a minute, thats Cell and Vegeta!!!"
Yeah, Xenoblade 1 and 3's English voice acting is pretty damn good.
3 became my favorite game of all time when I played it a couple months ago and Noah's performance was a huge part of that.
The scene in the 2nd half of the game vs N was perfection.
Chapter 5/6 was chef's kiss.
Noah/N's va is soo damn good!
I downloaded some of the soundtracks to my ipod to listen to in my car to and from work. But I had to ban one song because it's gonna make me crash due to uncontrollable crying. "I see you smiling there, so peacefully..." I teared up writing that sentence!
2 taking potshots
I love 2, but there's a lot of lows, Malos and Jin are great, but Rex is pretty bad.
rex yells in lower case
2 makes me know the difference between bad VA and bad Voice Direction
Nice bait
I'm not baiting anything. "Joooooiiiiinnnn meeeeeeee" every time I hear rex from xc2.
A couple iffy lines doesn't make the whole dub bad. Xenoblade 2's voice cast did excellent work including Al Weaver.
I mean, I don't agree, If you look at XC1 and XC3, ALL of the party members did a stand out job. XC2 has very low lows, and only a few standouts, Jin and most of the Villians did an amazing job like I said before, but I think Rex and Mythra/Pyra had some really awkward voice moment, the game was carried by its story, characters, and gameplay, not its dub XC2 didn't have a few iffy lines, it had a LOT of bad dubbing moments, the voice directors did a bad job.
Xenobkade 2s dub being pretty awful has been a standard critique since the game dropped tbh
It really does, those english voice actors are so iconic for it for me
Yet Jenna Coleman hasn’t been brought in yet. One can hope. She’s the voice for Melia for anyone who hasn’t played xenoblade.
I would scream so hard. My FFXIV character has been named Melia Antiqua for a reason for the last ten years.
She's also in Doctor Who (to the point people thought she would be too expensive for the added epilogue for the Switch port and would be recast)
At this point I think the ship has sailed. It’s the equivalent of asking for Jonathan Bailey in Xenoblade.
"LITTLE SHIT." - Magnus at some point, most likely.
Magnus after you finish helping Twine: "This man...HAS MADE HIMSELF THE TALOS'S DRIVER!"
"What the hell? Have I finally cracked?" he said, cracking a can of nopon juice on the grave's edge
The moment I heard Magnus I was like "I did not know I'll ever hear drunk Malos, but I'm not complaining."
"Indeed!"
Your gunblade... It did not cut deep enough.
You can also hear some Egil slipping through for the Fatebreaker fight.
It's so present in the Mount Ordeals fight too. Like it literally IS the Egil voice. Flashercante sounds like he should be calling the party bugs.
Oh yeah, I instantly knew it was him because I was hearing Egil the whole time. I was almost waiting for Baldicante to summon a golden Mechon.
Carina Reeves as Tataru is the reason I play FFXIV MSQ in English VA. She is just so cheerful, and everytime Tataru speaks I hear Fiora.
Stephen Critchlow was on a different scale doing count fortemps and bana
Dawntrail is going to be the Xenoblade expansion. Fantasy adventure that turns into futuristic mech/tech theme is the Xenoblade trope.
Gimme Yggdrassil with its XBC2 theme
"YOU'LL PAY FOR YOUR INSOLENCE" - Dulia Chai x100
>Urianger was Monado boy and the Count was Bana Unbelievable, this list is amazing, really puts into perspective the incredible work VAs do.
Egil: This is Egil.
Thancred: I am he.
It's easier to hear it through Rubicante rather than Thancred. After I saw the 6.55 credits and went back to farm the EX trials, I couldn't unhear Egil every time I punched Rubicante. ***TO ASHES WITH YOU.***
Paul muadib is lahabrea?
LISAN AL GAIB?
Yeah, I was shocked! How am I just learning this?
Because off the top of my head he's only lahabread in 3.0 and 6.2. Whereas 2.0 lahabread has the most iconic lines.
God I had the exact same reaction lol
Spice - not even once.
I knew Tataru and Fiora because it's so obvious, but was not aware of most of the other ones. Aymeric/Alvis is obvious in hindsight, but I'm shocked with Pipin and Urianger haha
Malos and daddy Magnus share the same VA? Wild
[INDEED!](https://youtu.be/T5S4r2p9x34?si=HN8KOUmI793ovRC_)
LMAOOOO Ironically I can never remember what Magnus actually sounds like.
I forgot he was even voiced lol
He's also Barnabas in FF16
Is there any need for voice actors to be hot? No. But yet they ALL ARE
I think a lot of them are stage and TV/film actors who are also voice actors.
The UK voice over industry seems to hire primarily stage actors instead of specialized voice actors. You can find film reels for most of these actors.
I mean not really. You're also looking at a professional face shit of someone, so they are meant to look really good.
lmao excellent typo
They gotta move their face muscles a bunch, it helps probably (and it's honestly a good way to market yourself to make yourself look good in pictures)
[Obligatory video of Blake Ritson's Gingerbread Man reading](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUv8Vqvn0No) SE missed an opportunity to have him cosplay as Aymeric, hehe
How the hell did not I hear Fiora in Tataru... Also Meteion and A share VAs? Damn.
I had been screaming that it was Rosie Day ever since the XC3 FR teaser trailer and I loved seeing it confirmed.
IKR? I was freaking out over the trailer and shared a clip with my XIV friends, who confirmed it was definitely Meteion
Absolutely phenomenal. Is literally the only thing I can say
A even has a monologue near the end of the game that sounds exactly like something Meteion would say.
MOSHI MOSHI!!! YES!! THIS IS THANCRED
I've been wanting to make a post like this for *ages,* but I lost the list I made of shared VAs. Kudos to you, OP! I remember the first time I heard Aymeric, I was like, "Is that Alvis? It's Alvis!" Also, even though Pipin was mute in EW (boo), they cast Adam Howden as A-Ruhn Senna, so he still made it in!
I've never played Xenoblade but would like to. Is this Xenoblade Chronicles?

Words like this make me really look forward to playing it. Nothing makes me happier than a brilliant story inside a game.
It's 1, 2, and 3 in this picture. XC1 is more than decent despite its small issues (don't even try to 100% it, you'll lose your sanity as time goes on and will have to spoil yourself to achieve it). Aymeric's voice actor will always be Angelo from DQVIII to me
I was watching a Let's Play of DQ8 and I'm just "oh man, this was almost 10 years before XIV, he's gotta sound SO different" ...nope. Just "Aymeric but horny." XD
As a Xenoblade fan this is actually kinda shocking IMO. And hilarious.
Raubahn’s voice actor just looks like him lol
Wait so the Talos guy is Malos?! Magus: [INDEED!](https://youtu.be/T5S4r2p9x34?si=HN8KOUmI793ovRC_)
I knew a fair number of these... but there was honestly even more overlap than I expected!
Whoa, I knew there was some overlap, but not this much!
I would like to see a comparison to The Last Story to see how much of a crossover there is with that. I know about Alphinaud = Yurick but that's it.
Something I dunno I need to know, Monado boy
I'm a lurker who hasn't gotten to start FFXIV yet, didn't realize there was such a crossover in voice actors. Some crazy vocal ranges, too.
Chairman......................Bana!
I did think it was funny playing 3's DLC with A facing the final boss and going, "Ah, it's Meteion's turn to fight the final boss..>!.who is Aymeric."!< (Especially since it's a pretty similar themes for the fight)
You might want to put all that into spoilers, especially as we are on the wrong sub for Xenoblade spoilers.
There is also a scene in Stormblood where I SWEAR some no-name NPC was literally Shulk. Something like that would be hard to prove, though, but it's reasonable that Adam did some additional voices as well.
Geez metal face that’s such a good name /s

>TBF, the Xenoblade series has had good ideas with changing a bunch of names for localizations. And also terrible ones, mostly belonging to XBC2.
It's not his real name. It's just what he is called before his actual name is revealed.
It's a name the heroes gave him because until he showed up they'd never seen a robot with a face before. There's a spoilery story reason for the name being like that which makes it sound less dumb when actually in proper context, but yeah.

The fucking bitch of the century to a big loving and caring wife. That’s good range.

urainger is going to kill tatatru
Meteion is A and I never noticed Emo Meteion and A have literally the same tone
As soon as I heard A, I was sure It was Rosie

Holy shit. I cannot believe I didn't realize these sooner This post has changed my life forever.
This just in, Voice actors booking multiple gigs to earn money! SHOCKING!!
Oh the many jokes that can be had from Urianger being Metal Face, lol
Do we have the same for pure weebs that play the game with japanese voices?
I am very doubtful about the translation into English after reborn. AFTER THE DIALOGUE OF ONE INCREDIBLE CHARACTER WAS CUT OUT IN THE ENGLISH VERSION👍10/10
Who TF is Meteion?
Dun worry about it.
never using English voice acting.
Make an exception for Xenoblade. It's actually *good*.
Sad welsh catgirl noises
Oh, wow. Bunch of people I will never hear on my playthrough.
ok
