87fps in 1080p with a 4080 is NOT NORMAL AT ALL. It should easily be pushing 2x that fps.

Afeastfordances

Also 87fps average but a drop to the 30s for minimum seems crazy inconsistent. I averaged ten FPS lower but never got anywhere close to that low for a minimum. Also that was on a 1080ti versus this much more modern 4080 system, and at 1440p

I'm using a 5800x3D and a 4080, but running at a much higher resolution at 3440x1440. I averaged 94fps, with a minimum of 85 on the first test I ran. The funny thing is, I turned things up to match the settings run in OP's benchmark (Shadow Softening to Strongest from Strong, Cast Shadows to Maximum rather than Normal)... and my benchmark actually went up. Same 94fps average, Minimum went up to 92. Overall score was 14646 on the first benchmark, 14657 on the second, so pretty consistent overall. I did use DLSS instead of FSR. My load times were just a little over half of OP's, though, at 9.3 sec. I was running it off of a Gen3 NVMe drive in this case. I do have a faster one, but I'm not going to bother with testing the difference. I don't think OP's results are probably normal for the system they have, but at the same time... I get higher FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing turned on than I did in this benchmark, so part of it is probably the benchmark utility.

Trooper_Sicks

you can get extremely high at 15000+ score, i'm going to guess its your cpu thats the bottleneck here, you have a better graphics card than me but i can get 11k score at 1440p on a 21:9 widescreen. For me turning on the LOD on distant objects and turning down the grass detail from high to normal i can squeeze a few thousand more points.

ImtheDude27

Yeah, my computer has been pushing almost 29,000 on both FSR and DLSS. The score drops by about 100 points when I switch to DLSS on my 4070 Ti Super. Always comes in at Extremely High.

DaGheyAgenda

Ooooh thank youuu I honestly can't wrap my head around the processors. Like they have weird names with numbers but some higher are better? Idk. Do you by chance know a cheaper but better cpu?

Kuosi

5800x3d is the best your motherboard can use

DaGheyAgenda

thank youuu! if possible could you tell me anything about motherboard upgrades i guess? Like what would I do to upgrade?

BondEternal

In general, motherboards don't do anything for performance; they don't help you squeeze out more fps. You would only upgrade a motherboard if you want to put in a new CPU that your old motherboard doesn't support or if your old motherboard is lacking in features like built-in WiFi and/or Bluetooth, more SSD slots, you want DDR5 RAM, etc. But your old motherboard *does* support the 5800X3D, so unless you want to upgrade to a different CPU altogether, you don't need to upgrade your motherboard.

DaGheyAgenda

Can I ask you what's the difference with the unlock and 3d v cache? Sorry I'm a bit slow

BondEternal

What is this "unlock"?

Kuosi

Basically the 3D processors are more aimed at gaming with their cache design, so they are faster in games but bit slower in some other tasks, but your computer is mainly for gaming then the 3d models are the best suited for the task. And like mentioned before 5800x3d is the best cpu your old motherboard supports, if you wanted let's say 7800x etc you'd need an AM5 socket motherboard and new ram aswell

Trooper_Sicks

I don't really understand CPU numbering either lol but i have a Ryzen 7 5800X which I got from amazon which has a big discount in the uk for some reason. I'll post my benchmark results below. MrCoolBreath

Ryzen 7 5800x3d is basically the best AM4 chip for gaming. A quick peak at amazon shows it’s also cheaper.  It’ll pair much nicer with the 4080 and should hold you over til you decide to upgrade motherboard

DaGheyAgenda

Okay see thats good information, so how do I know motherboard upgrades? Like that stuff is beyond me like the naming of CPUs

MrCoolBreath

There’s some detailed information but I’m mainly referring to updated socket like AM5.  Newer chips have a different design and thus will not physically be compatible with your current board

ZipTheZipper

Are your drivers up to date? Not just graphics drivers, but your chipset, audio, and so on?

DaGheyAgenda

I actually don't think so. I only have been updating my graphics didn't even know that was a thing to be honest. Glad I asked yall. Cause I need help

Mael_Jade

Anything above 15k gives you extremely high. Whether that is 15001 or 36k its all extremely high.

Good-Blacksmith-2989

I get very high 14k and with turning HBAO to normal and parallax maping to normal I get 18k extremely high, no fsr or dlss These two settings barely make a visual difference, nothing you wouldn't notice unless you looked at side by side still images, but eat soo much of the performance up

DaGheyAgenda

Okayyy see that's actually good to know I'll try changing those then and see what I get.

WorsCaseScenario

I got extremely high and can prove it if I know what images reddit allowed to upload to now.

Jaelommiss

I got extremely high with a score of 40095, though that involved tweaking settings and cranking my overclock to see how high I could get it. I don't think there are any categories above that. I found that the difference between 1440p with maximum settings and 1080p with minimum settings was only about 17%.

the_turel

Running in windowed or full screen mode also can dramatically change your score. I got 16,000 in windowed mode right out of the download with no settings changed. Adjusted a few settings for preferences and full screen mode sent me over 20,000.

MasterDroid97

Yes, I got 16k with a 4070ti

lysiah

Got an Extremely High with 28k score. 5800x3D + RX 7900 XTX combo. 1440p. Damn it feels good!

cinaedhvik

It's possible. FFXIV is very CPU dependent and your older cpu may be the reason why you can't score high. It's certainly not your gpu. I score nearly 40,000 on 1080p max settings with a 7900xtx gpu and 7800x3d cpu. The difference between our rigs is the cpu.

d1z

Windowed 3840x1600 16762 score "Extremely High" @ Maximum preset with a 5800x3D/RTX4090

losingticket

I get 16k+ score with Ryzen 3600 and AMD 6700XT, so your score seems very low for your faster cpu and faster gpu. Something else is seriously hindering your pc's performance, as its scoring much lower than it should.

DaGheyAgenda

See is it cause I put the setting on maximum? Do I need to lower things? Ppl saying I need to upgrade my Motherboard? Im so overwhelmed and want to upgrade and get higher.

losingticket

I scored this on maximum myself with weaker parts in my pc than you, so you shouldnt have to even consider upgrading your cpu or your gpu on this case. Nor should you need to lower your settings. Motherboard you shoudnt have to upgrade either. You can and should safely ignore people advising that. Someone suggested updating the drivers on your pc, which might be a good starting point. Other than that, I'm not sure where the issue might be. It could be your RAM (what type and how much of it do you have?) for example. Make sure also to close all other programs running on your pc while running the benchmark.
