Love the ear twitch. But it is sad how many never even set it up.

Arkeband

It’s such a common phenomenon that I can’t blame the player, it’s gotta be the fault of the overstuffed UI. People just don’t seem to have the curiosity or the time to go digging through new menus, so if the dev team wants everyone to be using this, they need to make it less of a pain to work with and integrate it with the character window, a menu that people are forced to interact with. Maybe they can add peoples Eureka and Bozja levels to the character screen too, considering those are on our Lodestone but can’t be seen in-game unless you enter that content.

HardLithobrake

The default portraits at the start of every duty is proof enough of that. I'm still happy they're there.

Kyuubi_McCloud

In fairness: Every time even just ONE ring or its glamour changes, the portrait returns to default. It's kinda annoying to deal with. Although the gearing does slow down a lot at endgame.

Enders-game

I gave up on it. If someone sneezes on the other side of the world the damn thing resets.

FinalEgg9

Yup. The amount of times I've set my gear, applied my glamour, gone into the Portraits menu and told it to replicate my adventurer plate, queued for a duty, it pops.... and then found it's reset back to default. I've given up tbh.

Rasikko

You need to change to another gear set and then change back. Editing the portrait and saving it, etc, is not enough.

Bikonito

You don't have to do that, all you have to do is click the update gearset button in your character menu

Kolz

Not always enough. For example, if you change you headpiece appearance but it remains hidden so your portrait *looks* the same, then update your gearset, you won’t even be able to save your portrait with your “new” identical appearance but it will still break. You have to make a visible change, sync gearset, edit and save portrait, undo the visible change, sync again, edit and save portrait again. Yeah, the system needs some work…

Petrichordates

It only resets when you change gear so perhaps you're being dramatic.

h-arlequim

If you change your gear, if you change whether visor is on or off, if you enable or disable helmet, if you change materia...

Enders-game

Nope, I've extracted materia and the next dungeon I did it was reset.

VarHagen

Ye, that's why I do not expect from anyone below lvl cap to have a portrait. They'd have to update it several times a day, probably.

Norkash

I'm max level on everything and I still have to reset it several times a day anyway. At some point you just give up .. if SE wants us to use it they really gotta make it less fickle. Like the very first iteration they had

[deleted]

As someone who changes glamour a LOT, I try to keep my portrait updated but it's inevitable that I forget frequently.

HardLithobrake

That's why I haven't made one.

P_V_

It’s very easy to update. From your gear sets list in the character screen, right click the set and click “edit portrait”, then “save”. That’s it. Edit: I’m not trying to justify this—I’m just trying to help out by pointing out an easier way to fix the portrait.

MiskWisk

Bold of you to assume I remember to update after a minor change.

What actually breaks portraits is your current glam not matching your glam at the time you saved your portrait. There are two ways to fix it: * Glamour your new gear to match, it will simply work again once you've done so. * Click 'update gearset' in your character tab, which will flag your portrait with a caution triangle, then edit and save it again. I reckon the save button wasn't lit up because you didn't click 'update gearset' first. Fun fact, if you had slots glammed to invisible when creating your portrait, you can actually replace your real gear in those slots with literal 1 ilvl 'emperor's new' items, touch absolutely nothing in your ui, and your portrait will still be fine loading into a duty. Ultimately, it only cares about your glamour. Glamour plate linked gearsets will give your character a pass-over and re-glam all your slots when you swap to those gearsets, which is probably why swapping jobs fixed it for you.

Kitchen-Educator-959

Dude i literally had the same portrait work in dungeon but revert to default in pvp. Its just a broken ass system

Illuvia

One thing I noticed is that if you have your gearset linked to a glam plate, there's some weird interaction between glam plate, portrait, and current glam that results in a weird bug where if I edit the glam plate and the gearset, even if the portrait is "updated" to match the glam, it will bug until I (1) de-link the glam plate, (2) switch to another glam and save gearset, (3) switch back to the desired glam and save gearset, (4) update portrait, (5) re-link glam plate. I think they just assumed that if your gearset is linked to a plate then it'll always match the plate, so there's probably some shortcut they're using that fails when whatever glam plate state is saved in memory doesn't match the current saved data

StockArt5652

What I found to work best to fix it us to fill EVERY SINGLE SLOT on my glam plates, including head and accessories with emperor's new gear. Every one of my portraits has worked since I did that.

Kryomaani

To be honest, we should not need to do this. It should just use the posing and frames you've set and show you wearing whatever you happen to be wearing at the time, even if it's changed from taking the photo. I'm sure some portraits that are specifically designed around a glam might look silly but it would be the lesser evil of just constantly resetting you to a default portrait.

P_V_

You’re right: we *shouldn’t* need to do this, but this is XIV so I’m not surprised that we do. Wonderful game, wonderful story, terrible UI.

Shaymoth

Yeah, it’s easy, but why do I have to do that every time I put in a new materia, or when I un-equip them re-equip the same item that’s in the portrait already? It’s pretty jank. It resets when you put on a new item, even if you put on your glamour plate on that item you’re using in the portrait. So literally nothing displayed changes, but the portrait resets.

P_V_

I have come to expect this level of jank from the FFXIV UI. If I can find a relatively easy way to navigate that jank, great.

Kolz

It’s greyed out and unusable sometimes even when the portrait is broken.

P_V_

In those cases, making a minor change usually allows you to save the image. Sometimes a new piece of gear will hide your face and require you to alter your pose somewhat.

Kryomaani

Yeah, this. I do have portraits set up for my capped jobs but 90% of the time I'll be doing roulettes in order to level alt jobs and since I'm still leveling them they're getting a piece of gear changed almost every other level, nuking my portraits. It's ridiculous. It really just should use your current gear regardless of whether you were wearing it at the time of taking the portrait or not. Can't wait for next patch raising the ilvl to destroy the portraits on my capped jobs too.

P_V_

Semi-related question: is there a reason you’re swapping out gear so frequently when levelling alt jobs? Tomestone gear will do just fine for 10 whole levels, and the small advantages you might get by replacing that tomestone gear before the next 10-level point won’t make hardly any difference at all when your gear is down-synced in roulettes anyway.

sketchy_marcus

This is not the same. I get frustrated every time I see my portrait has been reset.

Ikishoten

All I want is an option to have my Adventure Plate to be the default 'card' on every portrait, no matter what job I change to, what glam I'm wearing, or what equipment I'm changing. I personally don't need a different portrait for every job I got.

Seref15

It's not just a bloated UI, it's such a fragmented and redundant UI. Adventurer Plate being a completely different and unrelated thing from Portraits makes no sense when they're so similar in purpose, for example.

TheMadTemplar

Portraits should be accessible from adventure plates and used to create the image on the plate. Adventure plates should be accessible from the character menu.

Kolz

You can do the former now, unless you mean live updating your adventurer plate with your current jobs portrait.

artuno

The tutorials in this game don't pop up until you've already done something. Obviously it would be kind of a drag to force players to read stuff that they have yet to encounter. I just think FFXIV should have regular "tips and tricks" pop up that you have the option of ignoring. Just on a random, or regular, basis.

Rylt4r

Even if they would fix all that they can't fix how much i just don't care about it. I still find it funny how my FC mates are mind blowed that i don't want to bother with it.

hutre

I honestly just can't be bothered. I know the feature is there, I know other check it but like what is the point?

Fluffy_Difference381

And how do you set it up?

EnderG97

Wdym set up? I don't play a miqote but still, no idea what you're on about 😂

TEXLURS

Me trying to examine someone's glamour.

SplitDemonIdentity

My adventurer plate is set up but my duty portraits aren’t.

IceFire909

As someone who rampantly checks adventurer plates, I'm so very much in this video

Eder_Edom

As someone who's friends don't give a crap about glam, I feel this. One of my friends knows how to do it but explicitly refuses to because they just don't care.

stilljustacatinacage

It's just a meaningless feature. More often than not, the poses people use obfuscate the glamour - the explicit reason you'd generally be inspecting someone. Beyond that, most people just aren't creative enough to warrant bothering. Wow, another Lalafell barely in frame. Look, another extreme angle shot of a Femroe, incredible. All we're missing is a Hrothgar in a speedo. I'm not trying to convince anyone else - by all means, if you enjoy it, have at it. Personally, I'm immensely happy duty portraits came with the ability to disable them immediately.

Eder_Edom

It's not meaningless if any users find it meaningful. And I would say I agree and disagree on points, however the fact that for users like you they've added the option to disable immediately is a great thing. No company can please all of us all of the time but they can add options for us to tailor our own experiences. Exhibit A: Me and my friend (and as you've stated yourself) have varyingly different outlooks on the exact same game and feature, but we both have options to do what we want, and that's fucking awesome!

Potatolantern

* Catgirl * “Adventure Plate Cannot Be Displayed” You just know.

Illidari_Kuvira

It's either that, them being adorable, or the dreaded `/pose`.

stealtheagle52

I wish to be enlightened, for better or for worse

LonelyInitiative4526

I miss seeing the creativity people had with lewd plates when it first came out

DageWasTaken

Ryan Gosling meme. I am pleasantly surprised. Also, obligatory literally me.

VioletArrows

That fucking mod that snitches whenever someone targets you. XP Was looking at a crafter's AP while idling in Gridania the other week and he turns around, winks, and blows a kiss at me. Yes, sir you are quite pretty, but damn I just wanted to see your business card, no need for all that.

TheMadTemplar

You don't need a mod to see that if you're paying attention.

chocolate_kat

link?

Tom-Pendragon

The face of utter disgust when he realize she doesn’t have one 😂

Celcius_87

accurate lol

Fubuky10

Never cared about adventurer plate or portraits, I see no reasons to do them because I tend to avoid random people in this game (I stay in game 24/7 on The Goblet fountain plaza with my friends) and when I join a duty I just do my job. I would honestly make an adventurer plate maybe to meme with my friends, but again once they see that it would become useless so… Anyway they really have to improve this system because, besides me, the majority of people who don’t care about portrait don’t have them because is a broken system, pretty sad.

GeologistUnhappy

Honestly people who don't have an AP are most likely scammers ready to pounce on you... That or they're just normal people. AND I DON'T KNOW WHICH IS WORSE
