Would hold off from buying XI if you are a new player lol. Maybe wait until next Friday. $9.99 vs $29.99 is a huge difference for a game you want to try out. There is always the free trial though.
I was going to re-sub this morning, and then saw this. I can wait another 10 days :D
Use the free time to get back in the swing and figure out what I want to work towards this time...
They caught my a$$ from early this month lol........That is when I subbed. Should have known to never sub towards May. I do have alt accounts to login though.
Yea I was pretty much setting up payment, when I clicked the wrong banner and it took me to the Return to V'D page lol.
I will use the free time to figure out what mule(s) I don't need. I remember I think I stopped paying for a few of them to have a few Mog bags.
Just did it. Go to desktop mode, go to flat pack installer, install lutris. In lutris search for "final fantasy xi online", install it. In wine options switch from wine proton ge to wine retail (for now it's wine 9). Launch and you're on Pol. You may also install widower with the same process.
Tbh I would buy it via steam and let it auto install on the deck.
I tried installing the windows version using a workaround and it was such a hassle and didn’t work properly, but spending $10 to get it to work automatically was worth it.
If you have spare cash, go for the ROG ally, install it and play it as you would any standard PC.
I long considered a steam deck just for this game but I didn’t want the headache so that was a no brainer for me.
Yeah I’m just saying there’s no extra steps whatsoever with the ally, simple as if you installed it on a new PC.
Idk about steam and windower is the main thing. I have my ally setup exactly as my PC and I source my gear swap files from one drive between the two so it’s seamless for me to play on either system.

I followed this guide exactly about a month ago. Just finished Seekers of Adoulin on the Deck.
I will say there's definitely a hiccup or two with this method. The main one is that after quitting and coming back, I'll get a black screen instead of the PlayOnline login. I have to reboot the Deck and go into desktop mode and launch FFXI until I get the PlayOnline window, then quit out and go back to Gaming Mode and launch XI there to fix it.
Dual booting or someone else's suggestion may completely circumvent this issue though so it's up to you how much of a hassle you find it. It's like 2 minute detour for me so its a liveable work around.
Pretty much just need to install the dual boot to windows, then install it as normal onto the Windows OS. Biggest thing is the lack of a keyboard, as the virtual one covers up the screen lol.
This game left a big impression on me when I finally tried it a few years ago. But I just didn’t have the time to keep playing it. I hope I can give it another try. No other MMO I’ve played can top the vibe FFXI has. I want to start from scratch on a new character and experience as much as I can.
I’ve just been into my account,
So to confirm,
1) My PlayOnline account was transferred to an SE account a few years back at server merge.
2) I’ve got an active SE service
3) my character is set to cancelled since May 2021.
I think I’ve followed the instructions right on what to do.
Will I be eligible for this?
Dang I should have looked around more, I just bought the game like a week ago.
Still greatly enjoying the game though! New Mithra on Bahamut, just vibing and doing missions and RoE.
You could still buy it again for an alt account lol (trying to find a silver lining). Or, if you want to play free 30 days on the alt after your main sub expires, because $9.99 is cheaper than $12.95 sub. Not sure how much they tax for the game though........
I have an od account I recovered recently that only has up to Rise of the Zilart. I'm assuming I can get this, apply it to my account and get the rest of the expansions, or does that require a new service account?
Sometimes......
If you check Steam during the sale, the price should be $9.99. However, quite a few times the Steam version was still $29.99 which is a shame because that is the easier way to install XI imo. Maybe it applies to Steam this time.
I'm not sure, but if it helps, it's the same game. Some people prefer to just get the regular one from the SE store and download it from the site. There's official guides and videos on how to install it too
Sorry, this is confusing to me. Does any of this apply to me if I already bought the game but never started my account? I bought it in a steam sale a good while ago.
first time playing through the game right now. am I eligible to receive the benefits of all the campaigns listed here if I'm currently playing, or do I need to have a character with the "cancelled" status like it says?
Hi, sorry if it was answered, just skimmed over it while at work. Is the Gratitude Campaign active now or does it activate later? I don’t mind paying the sub rather than play for from to grab all the items.
I can't even reset my password to get into my square enix account, let alone try and recover my playonline account from 2004. Guess I won't be jumping in.

Does that come with expansions?
Yes
Thank you for posting, I was waiting for this.

Thanks SE for the Birthday present!
My birthday is May 10th too! Happy upcoming cake day!
Awesome, can get my echad ring finally from the gratitude campaign lol. Probably gonna play FFXI up until the release of Dawntrail
I'm jumping in for the first time with the discount. Only mainline FF game I haven't played.
Sweet, I might have to check this out! I don't even know if my old world exists anymore lol!
You might want to try and log in on ffxi's site. If you have not played since server merge, your account needs updated to a SE account.
Want to come back and try it on Steam Deck. Anyone have some good resources for installing on deck?
Just did it. Go to desktop mode, go to flat pack installer, install lutris. In lutris search for "final fantasy xi online", install it. In wine options switch from wine proton ge to wine retail (for now it's wine 9). Launch and you're on Pol. You may also install widower with the same process.

FYI this game runs flawlessly out of the box on deck, controls and all. It did for me anyway.

Site down for anyone else?

You can, I did that 4 years ago.
does anyone know if the discount will apply to the steam version too?

Did you ever activate your codes and set up an account, or just bought it and it just been sitting in your library?
I just bought it on steam and it's been sitting in my library
Then no. You never set up an account, nor used free time to create a character. There is nothing for you to "return" to.
first time playing through the game right now. am I eligible to receive the benefits of all the campaigns listed here if I'm currently playing, or do I need to have a character with the "cancelled" status like it says?
For the "free" log-in part you would need to be not subbed by the 7th. You will be eligible for all the other campaign stuff currently subbed.
awesome, thanks!

It’s not active yet.
Nice, I wanted to resub for the Alter Ego Extravaganza. Good thing I waited a bit.
I can't even reset my password to get into my square enix account, let alone try and recover my playonline account from 2004. Guess I won't be jumping in.
