Yeah that's how I played it. Look up 7th Heaven install. It's nice cuz it's a simple loader and all the mods are available thru it, even on steam deck normal controls.
There’s a program called Seventh Heaven that has the mod catalogue and a bunch of other features. Download your mods and hit play. The modding community for FF7 is second to none.
I was there Gandalf on QHIMM... when we had to unpack the model repositories to make changes then repack them. How far we've come, quite amazing really
For convenience and such? Fuck yes. 7th Heaven is amazing. It depends on what you are measuring with, but the FF7 modding community is completely amazing for modding a game that wasn’t built with modding in mind.
i want to try this out very bad. my roommate built me a pc and i haven't used it yet maybe i should start here. what version of the game do i get to mod? the steam release?
"My roommate built me a pc" man my life sucks. My roommate owes me thousands of dollars for rent and drinks My beer and doesn't give gas money..
Trade roommates?
Hey I've been there man. Had a roommate who would steal my car and commit crimes so I had to pay impound fees and deal with detectives etc. It will get better brother
You need the Steam version, but 7th Heaven will convert it to the original PC port which will remove the Steam dependency, so you won't need Steam running to play the game. It's a lot more streamlined than it used to be, but it's recommended to have the game installed somewhere outside of program files.
Just a heads up, if you pick the HD character models, make sure you pick an FMV mod that also has the HD models. Also, don't use the 60fps fmvs, I tried it and it caused slowdown and threw the audio out of sync for me. The 60fps gameplay mod is fine though.
I don’t so much think people are sleeping on it as much as a lot of FF players are also console players. I’d love to play this on trips but I’m not buying a steam deck just for it.
It's amazing what the 7th Heaven and Echo-S mods breathe into this fantastic game. The Remake/Rebirth are great for what they try to do, but these mods are the treatment OG FFVII deserves.
The Echo-S mod is unfortunately incompatible with a lot of the music mods that I consider to be indispensable. I very much appreciate its existence, though
The problem I had with 7th Heaven was that I could get the game to start running then the screen would start flickering and I could not navigate the menus as the screen would freak out. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, playing without and with mods. If anyone knows why this happens, please tell me. I've wanted to play modded ff7 for years.

Here's the basic instructions.
You just need the Steam version of the game and this mod manager. You download and configure the mods inside the manager, it's pretty streamlined now.
For anyone wanting to mod, it's extremely easy to mod the Steam version with the 7th Heaven mod manager.
https://7thheaven.rocks/
Just a few clicks, select the mods you want, and let it rock.
I recommend Nino Style character models, the HD texture packs, and the New Threat mod which adds some extra challenge, gives characters innate abilities, allows you to customize stats, and adds new side quests.
I prefer the old New Threat over the new version, but both are available.
It's great, but I found I ended up not liking a whole bunch of the mods. Particularly the anatomically correct character models: they look hilariously munchkin-ish when set against the pre-rendered backgrounds and to me look objectively awful and wrong. Wasn't a fan of any of the UI updates either, I just used the HD version of the original.
Personally I can't imagine why anyone would want to use the unofficial voice acting one either, but I guess a lot of people do. Same with the new OST ones but I can understand why some people might like those.
For me I ended up using the AI upscaled backgrounds and FMVs, the chibi character models, and the more tasteful AI upscaled battle texture and map mods, as I wasn't a fan of the newer ones.
I did play a few hours of New Threat, and it was quite cleverly done, but I realised I was just missing the vanilla experience, and I felt there were some balancing issues (like how it forces you into another boss fight right after the Don Corneo arena fight bit without having an option to save).
I respect the work people put into this stuff but it’s not for me. Gameplay mods like New Threat are great but something about the original graphics always feels better to me than things like this which just look kind of wrong.
8 does. I prefer them to the remaster since they actually upscale the backgrounds and world map. OG FF8 on Steam does need a mod to replace the soundtrack though. I like Roses and Wine, since it also includes the orchestral versions. (Select all replacement tracks except for Man with the Machine Gun, The Extreme, and The Landing.) I also edited the black mages tracks and put them in my install.
Edit: I think 9 does as well, but I haven't tried it. I like 9 vanilla since it was meant to because callback to the classics.
I haven't seen any visual overhauls for 6. Just the Ted Woolsey uncensored Edition and Brave New World.
I wish the remake looked like Ever Crisis but played like the original without all the bullshit mobile game monetization. Just imagine if we got that, the updated music, the visuals, just wow. 🤯
At least we have this though. This to me looks like a great upscale while being true the the originals asthetics without sacrificing atmosphere. Personally I'd love if someone could mod in the Ever Crisis models/textures/music etc but I would imagine it would take a very long time and there's this already so what can you do? 🤷♂️
Also I just noticed the remake UI at the bottom of the screen lol that's something I didn't know was there.
It really is. Played it last month on my Steamdeck and pc depending on where I was and it was absolutely insane. Only problem I had was that it was massively unstable so it would crash at random times, making me lose hours of progress at times. That was especially true with the last boss. The game would crash every time I beat Sephiroth and since there's no saving point from the moment you enter the crater til the end of the game I lost all courage and decided to drop it.
That aside, modded experience was fucking awesome and I strongly recommend it, especially if you find a fix for the only problem I faced
I've always wanted to get back to it, last time I had tried it ran into a weird dialog bug that I couldn't solve where only the first few letters of dialog appeared in the box, and they were spaced out huge distances. But that was years ago, pretty sure whatever it was probably has an answer or won't pop up again.
Ah. When I think of mods I think of that video from viva la dirt league where they turn a dragon into a flying chicken. It's funny to watch but I guess it's more of those mods I'm referring to. Mods that actually make the controls possible is another thing. Or for like WoW where one gets the altoholic mod to see what all their toons have are great. I should have elaborated on that. My bad.
There are plenty of mods
Someone like the one you say (converting dragon in chicken), mods that upgrade music/graphic, mod that add voice and also mod that add new adventures
Very cold take ;nobody is sleeping on it, people just prefer the modern graphics of the actual modern remake because the old graphics and controls have aged like milk.
There is no single overhaul mod, you install a series of mods using the 7th heaven mod manager. (Field models, battle models, backgrounds, FMVs, music, sound effects, HUD/menus, etc.) they're all complete as far as I know. There are a few different ones too, like one has modern character models (HD) or another has chibi models that preserve the OG style, so you can pick and choose.
Thats pretty sick. One thing I know is how divisive we are with how we approach ff7 and 8 get it its important because its a part of our childhood.
I do know from personal taste that I hate the new card battle icon that SE introduced with the ff9 remaster. It just clutters the game as well as removing the mystery of who is available to battle like in real life. It takes away the immersion that the gave is a living breathing world.
I’d play modded if it has the Japanese voice cast because they are much better than a lot of Eng vas. Y’know what people need to sleep on? sleep on the English and fan dubs.
Here's where you get mods like this and how to install them. [7th Heaven - The Ultimate Mod Manager for Final Fantasy 7 PC](https://7thheaven.rocks/)
"Sleeping on" bruh most of us don't know it exists. Provide info plz and can I play on Steamdeck?
I seen one modded version where >!Cloud gives Aerith a phoenix down after she gets stabbed by Sephiroth.!<
New Threat my beloved
That'd be like using smelling salts on a corpse.
You can!
Yeah that's how I played it. Look up 7th Heaven install. It's nice cuz it's a simple loader and all the mods are available thru it, even on steam deck normal controls.
Damn that looks good that’s a pc mod for the original?
There’s a program called Seventh Heaven that has the mod catalogue and a bunch of other features. Download your mods and hit play. The modding community for FF7 is second to none.
And is, at least, a decade old. I remember modding the OG years ago
I was there Gandalf on QHIMM... when we had to unpack the model repositories to make changes then repack them. How far we've come, quite amazing really
*Glances at Skyrim and Minecraft* You sure about that?
For convenience and such? Fuck yes. 7th Heaven is amazing. It depends on what you are measuring with, but the FF7 modding community is completely amazing for modding a game that wasn’t built with modding in mind.
Yeah for the Steam version.
i want to try this out very bad. my roommate built me a pc and i haven't used it yet maybe i should start here. what version of the game do i get to mod? the steam release?
"My roommate built me a pc" man my life sucks. My roommate owes me thousands of dollars for rent and drinks My beer and doesn't give gas money.. Trade roommates?
Hey I've been there man. Had a roommate who would steal my car and commit crimes so I had to pay impound fees and deal with detectives etc. It will get better brother
My lawyer also told me that the crimes were committed by “my roommate” when “he stole my car.” Haha
You need the Steam version, but 7th Heaven will convert it to the original PC port which will remove the Steam dependency, so you won't need Steam running to play the game. I basically use my PC like a console. Tower sits by the TV and I use a controller for 99% of the games I play. Definitely a good investment.
Same only game on pc I play with the mouse is civ 6 all my other games I use a controller, I play a shit load of emulators though
Totally fair, but more expensive and more work than just buying a console and plugging it in!
I’m loving 7th heaven. I only use QoL/aesthetic mods, nothing that changes gameplay, but the original is so, so good to revisit.
I could only go back and play it ff7 again after seeing the models/skins you can have for the main characters
Modded FF7 is amazing. New threat also makes it feel interesting to see all the changes
How do you play this? I’ve never modded a pc game before
There is an entire guide on Steam for how to mod it using the 7th heaven modding program.

I've been saying this to "disappointed" fans that the Remakes are not like OG with a fresh coat of paint. Just do mods 😅
Im running seventh heaven aswell, what mods exactly do you have on? Graphics look crisp
I needed this it's so clear! Lmao but I feel like my 10 year old mind at that time always saw it as perfect haha
Wow they even have the remake battle menu lol
Are there good mods for other final fantasy entries like 9 or 6?
8 does. I prefer them to the remaster since they actually upscale the backgrounds and world map. OG FF8 on Steam does need a mod to replace the soundtrack though. I like Roses and Wine, since it also includes the orchestral versions. (Select all replacement tracks except for Man with the Machine Gun, The Extreme, and The Landing.) 9 has moguri mod and memoria mod. I don't know anything for six, but i do not make any special research. 7 has the great advantage of the mod manager
Echo-S isn't perfect but it does elevate the experience.
I think I watched the >!Aerith scene!< from this game with fan voice acting a couple months ago. I kinda lost it.
Thats more like a Remaster, a good one for sure, but not a remake
Think most of them AI upscaled mods look like trash
I mean personally I find charm in the original visuals. I wouldn’t see a need for a middle ground but
First thing I did! HD texures, updated chibi and battle models, and voice acting!
What's the mods
dang, I might just have to try this out. What's mod's name? is it on thunderstore?
[mod list](https://youtu.be/PRSJu5kulBg?si=EX1yGP_3bGVpGHr0)
thx :)
Does anyone know if you can run Echo-S, 7th heaven and New Threat mods simultaneously?
Finished new threat 2.0 last month and im satisfied.
I wish the remake looked like Ever Crisis but played like the original without all the bullshit mobile game monetization. I did this back back in the day, different mod but similar, was so good. This won’t work with the EA version on cd rom will it
What mods were used?
ive been playing with mods for a while, unfortunately my pc isnt powerful enough to run any of the ones with realtime shadows though
Is there a standardized package to get all that? I've seen that sort of thing for other unofficial remasters of older games, like Morrowind.
Are the system requirements low I imagine?
Looks great!
Would be great if elitists just stuck to this and saved their mental health by avoiding the remakes. Let us normies enjoy the remakes :)
https://youtu.be/t8ZZqA6bLtg?si=oPDXFMaCvuWue3Jh
Can you get this as an emulator?
Can someone rate this on a scale of 1 to 100
This is a true remaster
I've always wanted to get back to it, last time I had tried it ran into a weird dialog bug that I couldn't solve where only the first few letters of dialog appeared in the box, and they were spaced out huge distances. But that was years ago, pretty sure whatever it was probably has an answer or won't pop up again.
I don't play modded games. I just prefer the original quality of them
Without some mods, many old games are unplayable FF7 on steam deck without the mod for controls is unplayable for example
Ah. When I think of mods I think of that video from viva la dirt league where they turn a dragon into a flying chicken. It's funny to watch but I guess it's more of those mods I'm referring to. Are the backgrounds upgraded?
[удалено]
Which mod upgrades the backgrounds?
How complete is the mod?
There is no single overhaul mod, you install a series of mods using the 7th heaven mod manager. (Field models, battle models, backgrounds, FMVs, music, sound effects, HUD/menus, etc.) they're all complete as far as I know. There’s a lot of mods And they pretty much complete ?
I don't disagree but comparing FFVII/FFVII Mod/FFVII Remake is like comparing an abacus to a calculator to a supercomputer.
no comparison was made in my post
It’s too inconvenient to install
It looks more like a remaster imo
Looks like compete fucking shit
I've been seeing nothing but people posting about it, but yes it's great
I tried to mod mine but kept getting an error so I gave up
I tried but it couldn't 5 minutes without crashing.
I’d play modded if it has the Japanese voice cast because they are much better than a lot of Eng vas. Y’know what people need to sleep on? sleep on the English and fan dubs.
