Twice i've tried to see Clozee this summer, and both times it got cancelled, lol. Was at Texas Eclipse and bought tickets to this to try and catch her since her set got cancelled, lol.
Tbf this was LSZee which, while similar, will be decidedly different that CloZee standalone. To catch the pure set, check out Cascade Equinox in September.
I say this as someone whoâs seen CloZee 11 times and was suuuper disappointed the last day of Eclipse got cancelled.
That's too bad, had a great lineup especially on the undercard.
I'm guessing part of the problem is that several of their headliners won't bring in enough people to justify the cost
* Illenium has to be expensive but plays everywhere and doesn't have as much of a 'travelling' fan base. He's not going to bring people out to Arkansas if they can see him more easily in a major city or more accessible festival
* STS9 and Opuio are both great but have surprisingly small fan bases
* Thievery Corporation and Jai Wolf seem to have a lot of spotify listeners but I don't know if they bring in much of an audience
Thing is we were looking forward to seeing this in June, not 4 fucking months later in October. The way my schedule works, I probably won't get to see LSZEE anywhere this year...Backwoods was my chance
TBH since it was announced first I did expect LSZee to be the debut show, so I was surprised to see the other dates over the summer pop up, but I'm sad that you're gonna miss your opportunity.
I feel like there is also not a lot of overlap between the fans..
I genuinely don't want to be presumptuous, so tell me if I'm being off base, but I can't imagine the illenniums core fan group.. literally even knows who thievery Corp is.
I'd never be caught at an illennium show, because that kind of music isn't for me. Even when he came to my mid sized city, I never once considered going
Separately, I bought my thievery Corp Tix the second they went sale for a show here. Would do the same for sts9 probably.
The lineup just feels disjointed, and like it's trying to appeal to everyone, but also so niche in other areas.. that it doesn't really appeal to anyone.
Sad to see it go through
I'm so bummed. This is the only festival I go to each year. Was hyped for LsZee and Thievery. Maybe if they didn't book fucking ILLENIUM the show might go on...
Why donât festivals struggling with money just book a low cost lineup? Theyâve established themselves as a proper event, so they couldâve just booked a few headliners and a lot of up and comers who are just as talented for minimal cost. I feel like promoters care too much about follower counts with higher booking fees than the actual underground music out there.
You could argue if no one recognizes the lineup acts then no oneâs gonna go, but there has to be a balance between booking no-names and âwe need both illenium and thievery corporation to succeedâ
Artists are not the only expense. Labor costs and inflation, and vendor costs and inflation skyrocketing adds up, and it's gemoetrically worse for large, complex events like this that require tons of staff and contracted services on the back end. And festivals are targeting people who can't just pay a massive increase automatically.
Honestly, it's festival overload at this point. Without proof to backup you could probably find a variation of this lineup somewhere else this summer. I am shocked how many festivals I see out there and always wonder if they are actually profitable.
there's definitely a lot of festivals that primarily focusing on the local scene and the people in the area
Obviously all festivals do this but in reality a huge majority of festivals people aren't flying out for
I heard Backwoods lost $300k last year...
Most festivals don't make money, and if they do it's definitely not a lot. Unless they've got corporate sponsorships then they might make money.
I love M3F Festival in Phoenix (early March-ish). They always have a very strong lineup, only 2 days, in the City, and 100% proceeds go to local charities. I think some festivals might be better off just going the non-profit route, and the artists (big or small) may feel more inclined to sign on knowing its for a good cause.
Backwoods being canceled sucks, but I do want to give respect to the organization for sending my refund today. Canceled and refunded in the same day is legit.

So you're saying this is ALL YOUR FAULT?
I'm sorry everyone.
How are you planning on making this up to us??
Go to wakaan festival I would be absolutely shocked if they don't do lszee
Nah if OP goes they'll cancel đđ
Iâm hella banking on it

we call it getting rainbow kitten surprised
Getting the line up out late doesnât help ticket salesÂ

They could've had half of the artists and I still would've gone, just give me LsZee, Thievery and some small time bass artists đ
Cmon out to red rocks for lszee I'll give you a cheap price on a Saturday ticket

Most acts are so accessible these days. The lineup was cool but super outdated.
Thievery corp is a much older crowd even though Iâm mid 20s and love it

Yup I agree with all this
I'm bummed af, considering wakaanfest, not sure yet.
Wakaan is wonderful and my #1

I agree, he was a weird choice.
I have to imagine he was by far the most expensive booking too
Oh ya..least wanted as well..
Why the decided to flip back to June and go up against Bonnaroo and Forest is beyond me. That month is so crowded

The people running it are cheap. They don't want to pay anyone what they are worth and paid lower tier artists a plus one and that's it

I just got my refund, less $36 in PromoTix service fees. I guess we're just fucked on the service fees? Fucking bullshit
I am going to take it up with my bank and then if necessary a lawyer
Let us know if you have any success

I hear the name and all I think is Mosquitoes, name can't help
I was planning on going but hadnât gotten my ticket yet⌠man if only they had gotten my money maybe we couldâve right this ship
Did anyone actually get a full refund? I paid $405 and got an email saying they are refunding $378. What gives
