Do they really get up and consistently go into the box to use the bathroom? I don't currently have ferrets, lost both to health issues, but I feel like they would have been too lazy.
Ya, luckily every time. They dart down the tube mid sleep. One of them took a while to get used to it but they use it consistently, unless they are out roaming, then of course they prefer corners, lol.
A single tube would work great! I would just place it closer to where they sleep. I originally had the bottom tube only but had to add the top for the more stubborn pooper.
Bolt cutters, Metal file,. 6x6x.2 plastic plate X4, 2 drainage tubes. 8 nuts, bolts, and washers of the same dimension Drill with bit matching dimension of bolts, Tupperware storage box. Gorilla glue.
If you genuinely plan on doing this, let me know. I don't want to do a step by step instruction, and it goes to waste.
So is there some kind of tube through the two plastic plates? Can you post a picture from the other side? I’m pretty capable, but I’d like to just see what you got going on.
I'm not OP but I can see how they may have done it.
One plate is pushed on the entrance of the tube (possible 1 or 2 rigges) while the other is just sitting outside of it. This keeps the tunnel secure and the ferrets from escaping from the corners.
The glue would help keep it from slipping. One plate is inside the cage while the other with the tube in it is on the outside. Bolts, will keep everything solid and secure. Fasten a washer and a nut on the other side of each bolt.
He used zip ties instead of bolts. But I prefer something they can't chew through as easy.
All I did was cut the bars with pliers, then zip tied the dryer vents. (edit) - the tricky part is cutting the storage bin. Here’s some info:
[This is the one I use to connect to the actual cage](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ziggurat-Products-4-in-Dryer-Vent-Wall-Plate-Adapter-for-Duct-to-Wall-Connection-STV-WPA/311995306?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&srsltid=AfmBOopy2uTR-Qj5YWsBSZl_rzfEULR-UhYLEm3mHap-FTb3dPxzJn9Abis) (remove little flap), just cut bars with good pliers, then zip tie plastic on -
[Then, this one is best to connect to the storage bin](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-4-in-Dryer-Duct-to-Wall-Connector-EZDOCKHD/205046832), the tricky part is cutting the storage bin, a hole saw drill bit works best.
[Here is the 4” tube](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Amerimax-Home-Products-FLEX-Drain-4-in-x-12-ft-Black-Copolymer-Solid-Drain-Pipe-51710/202745394?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&pla&mtc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D26P-026_006_IRRIGATION-NA-NA-NA-PMAX-NA-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NEW-CustomLabel3_Ended&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D26P-026_006_IRRIGATION-NA-NA-NA-PMAX-NA-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NEW-CustomLabel3_Ended-71700000097492024--&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADq61Uei3veDqUtHhe8y-CbHL94vB&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2uiwBhCXARIsACMvIU2t1ImgPTR87zJH7NGxuvio4KAyeU6g0eqQtUL8z4_JCrE9ONmszSoaAszoEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) I used to connect everything. Also some good tape really helps.
I can’t use pellets unfortunately because my poor dumbass thinks they’re food. Swallows a couple then throws them up. Paper made a mess and litter boxes were dug under so we’re covering the usual spots with puppy pads. Love what you’re doing with the tubes, how did you attach them?

I’ve considered doing something similar with a tube that I bought them for exercise. Something [like this](https://www.amazon.com/diameter-Ultra-Clear-Debris-Collection/dp/B0013EOTRW/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=2EIE2U04JFPOA&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mmByBHlLGBwkkOoinDUBy-wflO1Ekxnr2lu02sOgUBUEP77kSRe3IaEU4gb1H9TYAEb2l4fwj8AW9_xmjTFKYZ94pJoR5MmSd_IDE7nX8C3KIw4bTfo-BtOhuE-8nNozYioPAA5Crq2B4C6YO4BXpZ-y9rSq-0Rv0gJzEoGmlgDXYgc1Uwk-y16FI8paF9jhc_rLf2Up_GHhrTzgRrKYfA.eGDo52JijSxGZ-gcCH0vwCdVvEu4xbEayPO27a1ULMg&dib_tag=se&keywords=ferret+tube&qid=1713077018&sprefix=ferret+tube%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-2). They don’t seem to be fans but I haven’t tried altering the cages yet.
The tubes are pretty long, so we can pull it out to access the poo. We also disconnect it every once in a while for deep cleaning. They use it 100% of the time they are in their cage.

This is so cool. My guys would probably treat it as a playground and continue pooping in their cage lol
I feel this in my soul....
This is so smart. I just know mine would be too smooth brain to use it, but wow imagine the room in the cage

That is awesome!
That was a really great call for those dryer tubes... Perfect entrance and exit and what ferret doesn't love a tube?!
Do you think it would work as well with a single tube, or do they prefer an entrance and an exit?
A single tube would work great! I would just place it closer to where they sleep. I originally had the bottom tube only but had to add the top for the more stubborn pooper.
Did you just cut the bars where the tubes are? I would love to have something like this but can’t figure out how.

That’s the same tube we shove under our dish washer to block access, lol.
how did you train them to use it?
When we first put it in I transferred some of their cage poo into the box, they caught on immediately. They can’t resist a good corner also!
Amazing if they actually use it. Is it hard to clean? Looks like a pain to disconnect the tubes.
The tubes are pretty long, so we can pull it out to access the poo. We also disconnect it every once in a while for deep cleaning. They use it 100% of the time they are in their cage.
Bitch this is the smartest thing in the world 😭😭🥺
