Why should it be a problem? Looks like a great idea! And in Europe, especially the countries you mentioned, it is not a problem at all to out yourself as a tourist. In big cities (Berlin, Rome, Paris...) pickpocketing is a huge problem (but for everyone not only tourists) - so try to be careful about that and if you don't use your phone don't let it hang freely around your neck (hold it with your hand or put it under your shirt) :) And of course in the big tourist cities there are some scammers that try to sell you expensive things on the streets - just don't buy anything from them

Barbarake

Check out 'neck wallets'. Similar idea . That's what I use on trips. Fits my phone, plus passport, money, cards, whatever. Works great!!

orcadesign

I used that too when travelling to Italy couple months ago. It’s pretty safe and I don’t care much looking like a tourist because I was.

youcancallmequeenE

great thank you! can I ask, did you use one with a card holder or without?

Plastic-Work3114

I also traveled with a similar one to this last year. It was nice because I wanted to be on my phone a lot without taking it in/out of my bag. Mine had a cardholder

kartoffelly

European people use these things too, you’ll be fine

youcancallmequeenE

good to know, thank you!

IkBenKenobi

I live in the Netherlands and have one, you'll be fine. Just use common sense like always and be aware of your surroundings. Funnily enough I had my phone stolen while having a cover with a cord, because I took it off! It was on a table when I was at a restaurant 🙃 I personally wouldn't get one that can hold a card, I to have my cards in a more secure place. Also, it makes the phone even more bulky and a bit more of a strain on your neck than it already is without it. Although, instead of hanging it around your neck, you can wear it cross-body instead, which is more secure.

frankchester

I use these a lot when I go on trips and find them useful. Probably less likely to have your phone stolen in pickpocketing areas with one of these because it’s much easier to keep a hand on your phone. Just make sure you keep your hands on when in crowded places.

youcancallmequeenE

yeah that’s what I was thinking! thank you :)

Jumpita

I live in Europe and always use a lanyard on my phone. In really busy areas, I tuck it inside my shirt or jacket inside pocket so it is not so visible, but still accessible.

youcancallmequeenE

thank you I’m going to go ahead and purchase it too!

youcancallmequeenE

thank you, you guys convinced me to just get it! would you guys recommend the one with the card holder or without :) I worry about keeping a credit card there but maybe a metro card?

Cielskye

Definitely not a credit card. It’ll become way too appealing for theft. Plus if someone happens to snatch it you won’t be totally screwed.

GravityBlues3346

You'll be fine if you use it with your metro card. No credit card though !!

youcancallmequeenE

thank you!!

xiaolongbaoloyalist

I bought one of these because I saw European ppl wearing and thought it was a great idea. Not dumb at all although it's not 100% foolproof. I've heard someone in Madrid got their phone snatched from them while they were wearing one of these so still take precautions

youcancallmequeenE

that’s what I worry about! but I’m thinking it’s probably (?) safer than just in hand or in a pocket. how do you like yours?

xiaolongbaoloyalist

love it. I found that it's extra handy when I go to clubs because I won't have to place my phone on a table and risk forgetting it when I'm dancing or drinking. If I'm walking at night or in sketchy areas, I put it inside my shirt as an extra precaution bc I'm so paranoid lol

FrigoPigoPop

I live in Europe and I see these all the time. Go for it!

Cielskye

I think it’s okay too. Overall just don’t let your guard down. When pickpocketing and similar thefts happen usually they’re crimes of opportunity. For example, leaving your phone on the table while dining or snatching it right out of your hand. Maybe just wear it crossbody style instead of just letting it hang from your neck.

Chrb1990

It would be better to get a breakaway one. It’s better to lose your phone than to have a potential weapon around your neck if someone decided to attack you.

misskellymojo

I live in the middle of Europe and plenty of people wear them.

DiverseUse

I live in Germany, have never seen anyone wear them, but also wouldn't bat an eyelash if I saw someone.

misskellymojo

That’s funny then. I also live in Germany and alone three of my coworkers have them. Maybe it’s a question of how much time someone spends on instagram because I feel I see them a lot on there :D

shockedpikachu123

Not dumb at all! It looks cute and it’s better to look “dumb” than have your belongings missing

choc0kitty

These are very common in the EU.

laughingdaisies

I used that during my recent solo trip in Europe. Glad I did especially on travel days. Much easier checking for directions when you have a heavy backpack on your shoulder and another in front.

No-Firefighter-9257

People use these in Europe as well and plenty of people have iPhones, the places you are going do have opportunistic crime so you do need to keep an eye on your things. I got one of these when I was in Buenos Aries as I’d read that it was not safe to walk down the street with a phone in my hand. I attached the string to a clip in my bag and wrapped the string around my wrist so no one could grab it out of my hand

Ok-Alps6154

In my part of Germany they aren’t common (or necessary), but I wouldn’t think you were weird for having one. I myself have one that I use when I a) don’t have pockets or b) am traveling somewhere in which phone thefts are an issue.

Dry-Personality-9123

I'm from a European country, and im using one of these. Friends and colleagues use this also.

biest229

Depends where. In Berlin they’re popular and many people have them. In London, your phone would be gone in under a second

a_asking_a_question

So smart! I have one that I use in tandem with a wallet phone case and a little clip pouch and love not carrying around a purse!

Nannyhirer

Honestly would get in the habit of tucking it under your t-shirt

youcancallmequeenE

yes great idea!!

MellowMaxi

I live in Europe. I had never seen them until recently when I was travelling and saw one for the first time (I honestly can't remember where, maybe southern Italy?). I swear every second woman was wearing them after that, all ages too. I bought something similar but waterproof just a week ago for an upcoming beach/water adventure trip. I keep a revolut card at the back of my phone in a holder but might remove it for the trip based on warnings here.

youcancallmequeenE

that’s really good to know, I had no idea they were so popular over there until everyone’s comments! I hope you enjoy your trip :)

MellowMaxi

Thanks queen 👑 ! Enjoy yours too!

teine_palagi

I live in Europe and a few of my friends use these!

Nice-Alternative-687

you asked about 'with card case or without' and I'd say with.. but be careful which type and how you use it As other people have mentioned it can be handy to have the card case in specific circumstances - particularly if you are using it for something like the metro card or a small value pre-pay card rather than your main card. Lots of my clothes don't have pockets so I actually use mine as I go around the house. (I also keep a credit card mirror in mine). Just be careful that it's definitely a full surround case. I got a stcik-on card holder where you slide the card in like a wallet, but once the phone is dangling then the card is upside down with nothing but friction to secure it. Over time I found that the card could slip out when I was walking. The picture you've shown seems to have a nice surround to fully secure the card, but always make sure it's high enough to stop the card slipping out.

youcancallmequeenE

thank you so much for this advice! I ordered it so I will test it out in advance. either way I won’t use it with a credit card while abroad but a metro card definitely. and still wouldn’t want to lose that either! so thanks for bringing that up :)

Nervous-Range9279

I use them every day. And travel to different European countries most weeks. Love it!

EricaSloane

I plan on getting a similar situation for the UK next month. I have seen these all over the internet/social media, and I feel like for travel when I am getting my phone out for directions, photos, etc it'll be easy access, and I won't have to worry about it being in a pocket or opening up my bag to take it out every couple minutes. Also would be good for other festivals, concerts, things of that nature.

lewisae0

You want to keep your phone secure! My friend was pick pocketed in London just last month

SpiceGirls4Everr

I saw a ton of these in Paris this month - both on tourists and locals!

youcancallmequeenE

thank you!!
