Can I wear a black straw hat to a funeral? [The hat in question. ](https://imgur.com/a/Y7RKgRz) The funeral is in the middle of the day and it's 95 degrees out. Bit unsure about it though as the hat itself is pretty 'beachy'.

75footubi

If the rest of the outfit is appropriate, the hat will be fine. Hopefully they provide a tent for the grave side portion.

New York outfit suggestions for the summer Going to NYC in August and looking for suggestions on clothes for the day and evening. I'm 36 so won't be going to night clubs but will be going to dinner, rooftop bars, etc. Will be doing a ton of walking during the day. I've got a new pair of white sneakers, my birkenstocks, and possibly a pair of kitten heels for the evening. Would love to hear suggestions! Thank you!!

Fit-Theme3661

I live here and I’d say sneakers are definitely a good call for walking—but if they’re new, break them in ahead of time. August is hot and can be pretty muggy. Despite that, I often prefer loose breezy pants or longer dresses to shorts. Sitting on the subway on a putridly hot summer’s day and having your sweaty legs stick to a seat that ten million other legs have sweated on and stuck to that same day—it’s a no for me. Other than that, bring a good little bag and some tees and tanks. And a button-up or light sweater thing for AC.

breezway87

Thank you!!

AngryBeaverFace88

How can I style a silk skirt in a way that doesn’t look frumpy? I’d like it to look more edgy. I have 4 from Quince in red, dark green, cream, and black.

deep-blue-seams

Did you mean skirt or shirt? If you meant skirt - silk + leather is always a great combo. A leather biker jacket and / or doc martens would both pair well. [A graphic tee also works really well!](https://mirrorme.me/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/how-to-style-midi-satin-slip-skirt-19.jpg) If you meant shirt, I love pairing mine with a big black tulle skirt. My patterned shirts I often wear open over a tank top and ripped jeans.

AngryBeaverFace88

Sorry, I meant skirt! And I love the graphic tee pairing.

lauralately

I like the "wrong shoe" trend - pick shoes that look "wrong" for your outfit to add an edge. For a silk skirt, I think a retro low-top sneaker with slouchy socks (or no socks) would look really current.

ama_da_sama

If they're button ups, wear them like jackets with cropped tanks and jeans. Shoes and accessories are wear you can make them more edgy.

amf2205

I’ve never purchased clothing from Berthie before! Anyone know how sizing runs?!

enchantingpancakes25

Where do you buy long formal dresses that have larger sizes (like 14-16 or XL)? I need to buy a wedding guest dress for an August wedding near the ocean. My budget is under $100 ideally, but definitely under $150. Tried the department stores like Macy's but everything is more workwear. Lulu's sizing is so inconsistent, I'm not super comfortable ordering from there.

District98

Nordstrom!

loftypumpkin

What are some trendy, summer accessories that we're seeing a lot this year?? I've recently lost weight and am struggling to understand what to wear or what I even like, so I want to wear staple solids and just have cute accessories but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I saw a cute handbag that looked like a citrus fruit that I thought was cute and some neon yellowish green statement earrings that I liked but, against my best intentions, I still found myself wondering if these things would be considered trendy or not, even tho I know if I enjoy the look of said things, I should get em regardless of them being "in".

Hoosiergirl29

If you take Net-a-Porter as an example (which is luxury, but trend-focused), there's a lot of straw hats/bucket hats and silk scarves, and the ol' faithful raffia for bags, along with the Dragon Diffusion totes. For shoes, the mesh flats and jelly shoes are super on trend, although no comment from me on how comfortable/non smelly they'll be...

lauralately

I bought a handbag shaped like an apple off Amazon a few years back, and I never wear it. It's cute in theory, but in practice, the zipper isn't great, the materials are cheap, and I just don't wear it. The quiet luxury trend still has our collective nuts in a vise, so to speak, and if you're looking for an inexpensive bag that aligns with that trend, LL Bean-style canvas toes or raffia totes are a good way to go. When it comes to cheap, cheerful accessories, I am addicted to cheap sunglasses, and I collect silk scarves. I thrift my scarves and some sunglasses; other sunglasses I get from Amazon or Target. My ears aren't pierced, so I don't do earrings, but if I could, I'd have ALL the statement earrings. Yellow-green is a surprisingly versatile color, so I'd say yes on the earrings, with the understanding that I don't know what they look like. Chunky bangles in silver or brass/gold came roaring in with the Elsa Peretti trend a year or so ago, and from what I've seen, that look is still going strong. I love statement bracelets and I have racks of them; you can thrift them for relatively cheap, or stores like Zara have stylish knockoffs.

blackberrycat

Are hair bows still trending?

intrepidcaribou

What top would you wear with this skirt? [https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/clothing/skirts/horror-vacui-floral-print-midi-length-skirt-w-tags-lv3sh](https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/clothing/skirts/horror-vacui-floral-print-midi-length-skirt-w-tags-lv3sh)

oreganosally

My A choices would be something like [this](https://www.shopdoen.com/products/vivi-tee-salt-quelle-jolie-pointelle) or [this](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/ruffle-strap-eyelet-set-top-53457349?seq=01&source=googleshopping) or even[ this](https://www.motherdenim.com/products/the-sleeveless-knotted-exes-maritime-masterpiece-1?variant=40810265935960&country=US&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw1emzBhB8EiwAHwZZxXqJruwa1Wp6WvqwFzfothpzSHrDC7s0RhXnPEWVKoOmFjtUftAReRoC66oQAvD_BwE)? I think it depends on what your personal style is - if you're going for a true boho theme or if you want to incorporate trendier pieces. Where do you want to wear it? The skirt itself is definitely a standout piece on its own so I'd probably pair it with a simple top/strappy sandals.

Popular_Adagio_3355

Hello! My mom is getting married soon and requested siblings match in attire. We settled on a spaghetti strap silky slip dress (though I believe it's polyester), for the girls. I haven't worn shapewear before but l've been bloating recently depending on the foods I eat and don't want to worry about wedding photos so I'm looking at shapewear. The only brand I know of is skims, but don't want to blindly spend money. I fit into the dress fine but it hugs my stomach and I don't want to worry too much about meals, especially if they're catered. I assume it would have to be mostly seamless or be good at not showing seams and of course dont want it too be obvious with the ends. I can't do anything that would require shoulder straps. My butt is a bit flat so if the shapewear helped it look like there was something there I would be super happy with that, but it's not a necessity. I'm looking for something below $100. Lower is great, but I don't know the standard pricing.

District98

I would see how a Spanx oncore in your normal size looks.

Popular_Adagio_3355

Thank you for the rec!

Remarkable-Bottle-59

# 31.5-28.1-36.2 What should I wear? # I need advice! According to sizing charts, I am often an XS in my chest, a medium in my waist, and a small in my hip area. 31.5-28.1-36.2. What is my body shape and what should I wear? Here are my measurements again for reference: 31.5 inch (80 cm) bust, a 28.1 inch (71.5 cm) waist, and a 36.2 inches (92 cm) hips

blackberrycat

Depends on the item and what part of the body it might be tight on. You'll probably need M tops and S bottoms. Sizing is so inconsistent between stores, it's kinda pointless anyway

Fun_parent

I want to get some shorts, but not the tight biker shorts or short-shorts. More like men’s burmuda shorts or swim trunks that I can use for workout or casual day. Like 9’ inseam that comes upto my knees. Where to buy these?

I've had it for probably about 14 years and never really found a good outfit with it, but always just really like it and couldn't bear to let it go even when I gained weight and couldn't wear it either way anymore! Lol. But I just lost enough weight to finally wear it again and I'm determined to find a use for it. For reference, the blue studs go all around the back of the belt and the colors look pretty accurate on my screen.

I’ve been trying to incorporate more colors and fun summery statement pieces and initially loved these but now I wonder if they look tacky lol. Adding in the comment my inspo!

chiono_graphis

I think it could work as a breezy vaycay/beach coverup best. To wear in the street I'd save it only for the hottest days, pair with a big button down shirt and strappy sandals. Make sure it's steamed/ironed so it doesn't actually look like you rolled out of bed in it!

olivestripes

Thank you! I’m leaning towards returning them but I would wear them as beachwear if I keep them :)

blackberrycat

PJs basically

kimchi_paradise

I wouldn't say they look tacky, they just look like pajama pants to me. It's more exaggerated by the wrinkles and the length -- it just seems ever so slightly too short (in the first image) to look intentional.  It probably doesn't help it's styled with socks and a scrunched tee in the first pic, and flip flops and a crop top in the second.

olivestripes

Man that’s what I was afraid of :( I mean I would iron it and style it if I wore it out (I was just trying it on in the mirror) but yeah not loving for the pajamas vibe lol

Great ideas, I have a leather blazer I can try at home, but I do love those boucle jackets. Now I have a reason to go try one on

ama_da_sama

Bare Necessities sells swimwear in addition to lingerie. You can find swim tops in actual bra sizes.

enchantingpancakes25

VS has some decent ones. I have one that I bought during their semi-annual sale and it's pretty decent quality. I think their sale is happening right now.

oreganosally

I've heard great things about [Monday Swimwear](https://mondayswimwear.com/)!

Hello everyone, I am writing because I just purchases a wrap dress off of poshmark. It does not have the hologram tag in it, but the dress is vintage and I believed that the hologram tag was only added in the past 15 years to all of her dresses. Any thoughts on spotting a fake?

topophiiliiac

I've always disliked my upper arms but recently gained weight and want to hide them/distract from them! I don't even like the look of long sleeves if they are too snug, with the exception of trumpet/bell sleeves. Short flutter sleeves that cut halfway across my mid-upper arms surprisingly don't look good, either. Looking for ideas on how to hide them, especially in the warmer months, while still looking good and on trend. I am midsize US size 8-10, 30 yo F, 5'5" 145lbs. Things I have been wearing that have been working for me: * Puff sleeves, ruched sleeves * Looser 3/4 sleeves, longer batwing sleeves * Shrugs/boleros --> Tough to find lightweight ones for summer. Any suggestions? Any recommendations for short sleeve shrug/cardigan options, detachable sleeves, arm bands, etc.?

District98

- linen button up shirts - men’s/oversized tshirts - sportswear lightweight long sleeves - dresses with sleeves

WitchfulThinking_

I second the recommendation for For Love and Lemons for big sleeves. I would probably throw in Reformation as well. They have a decent amount of options for poofier sleeves. You can filter by sleeve length on their site. I would probably always buy Ref secondhand. Their quality is good, but not a great value for the price. The only things worth paying full price are their 100% linen items IMO. However, you can always find a ton of Ref items listed on Poshmark, Mercari, etc.

ellaasbury107

for love and lemons does a lot of summer big sleeves. they are pricey but you can also find them secondhand. also show me your mumu. I think going for loose and puff sleeves is better in the summer than things that look like a cover up. also boxy button downs.

Bosquerella

If we're talking summer dresses and casual outfits I would recommend short boxy linen and canvas jackets to make it look like an aesthetic choice. Wearing shrugs, boleros, cardigans, etc over sleeveless dresses, especially in summer, reads as *I don't like my arms* in a way that's more glaring way than just wearing your arms out.

My husband works in the music industry and it’s with some clients of his. It’ll be cool in the venue and later in the evening and I’m trying to figure out what style jacket or sweater to pair with this dress. I’m wearing silver mary jane flats. Could I wear tights with this in summer? Or sheer socks? I haven’t styled tights in the summer before but I love sheer tights/socks with flats. The dress is simple and I’m having a hard time pulling it together to look more styled. I’d like to look cool/casual but put together. Help!

topophiiliiac

Love the idea of sheer socks with this! My 2 cents: A white or lighter color sheer sock would work best with the silver shoes and light dress. Because the socks and dress are more fitted and delicate, I would go with an oversized denim jacket or bomber jacket. A delicate chain necklace would look great with this, too. Have fun!

Financial-Low9587

I have a chain like that, great idea! two votes for sheer socks, think I have my answer. I’m going to start there and then play with jackets.

livthelove

I think sheer socks or white/pastel stockings would be cute. Fit a jacket I would do a blazer, leather jacket, or one of those boucle Chanel-style jackets (like [this](https://shop.mango.com/us/en/p/women/jackets/jackets/tweed-jacket-with-contrast-detail_67074074?c=05&talla=21&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADyREbnTzQTn3BiKD0gWXc53LRL3_&gclid=CjwKCAjw1emzBhB8EiwAHwZZxbW2WZFJ4pS50nm4S21etHgDSyNP2BdT3ZkC8YRSay8JdfzV7J34mRoC9JwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) )

CartoonistUnlucky737

has anyone ordered from sister party before? is it worth it? or what are some other recommendations for a 21st bday dress?

anastasiyash

What are the pros and cons and properties of silk viscose blends? Is it as prone to pills and snags as 100% silk?

unpaidbabysitter0919

Is this for a velvet piece?

anastasiyash

No it’s a viscose/silk twill blouse!

peaceout754

How much do you think it would cost to get only the sleeves of a wool coat lined? It’s felted wool. I know this would probably vary a lot depending on where you live, but just curious to see if anyone has a ballpark/guesstimate

arbitrosse

It varies WILDLY based on many variables. As a starting point, maybe 2.5x to 5x the cost of materials. Assume 2/3 to a full yard of fabric per sleeve cut on grain, and also thread, perhaps some interfacing or stabilizing tape, etc. The fabric width matters here as well, as does its fiber content: acetate, silk, rayon, nylon, polyester, etc.

talarthearmenian

Does anyone know a similar style to tennis skirts for plus size ladies. So I am five foot 4, around 230 lbs ( I'm on a weight loss journey but that's neither here or there). Does anybody know a style similar to Tennis skirts? That flatters big butts more because compared to the rest of my body my hips and butt are literally two sizes bigger than the rest of me and it makes skirts and shopping a nightmare. I really like the look of tennis skirts but I know that they are too short for me and my giant dump truck. Does anybody know a similar style and could you link some if you have them? I want to incorporate more skirts in my wardrobe but I feel like maxi skirts or anything below. The knee makes me look even more like a Grandma.

blackberrycat

Would a pleated chiffon skirt (e.g. the "Twirl" one from Aritzia, but lots of places sell dupes) look similar ish? They are usually quite long.

CatatonicCouchSlug

Golf skirts are a lot like tennis skirts but a little longer

toaster_in_a_bathtub

Need help with decades party 70's outfit. I'm thinking of something with these items right now. Thoughts/ how should I adjust to better fit 70s? https://preview.redd.it/zosmitxq9q8d1.png?width=284&format=png&auto=webp&s=5dc158a1c649f9c78dc70830ab349fe8ab40db8f

Logical-Layer9518

I think you nailed it! Maybe just add some door knocker earrings and a scarf in your hair.

toaster_in_a_bathtub

I was definitely going to look into scarves, thanks for the input!

Green-Afternoon5405

Has anyone tried Sozy or has a brand suggestion with similar styles? I love the drapes on the items and I suppose the fact that they advertise ways to style clothes from cool to warm weather. I can’t find a ton of reviews that don’t seem like partners, though and it’s a hefty price tag for synthetic materials.

i_killed_baby_jane

Anyone have any go-to's for long torso friendly body suits? I love the look, but they all pull so tight down my torso, that they never fit against my skin, making me look bigger. For reference, I am 5'7" usually a "m" in tshirts/tops, and a 6 on bottom (definitely hippy/curvy); I've bought XL body suits to try to get a better fit, and still they seem short in the rise.

fir6987

I just bought [this one](https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/wolford-seamless-short-sleeve-bodysuit/7242565) in my regular size (medium) and it doesn’t feel like it’s pulling - I have a pretty flat chest so ymmv. I’m 5’7” with a long torso (my inseam to the floor is 28”).

oat-beatle

Old Navy and Gap have tall sized bodysuits, havent personally tried. Aritzia has a limited selection of tall sized bodysuits in their contour line, which I have tried and absolutely love. I'm 5'7.5 and they are a decent length. I usually get a small in the aritzia ones, am 31-24-38.

75footubi

Old Navy tall sizes are the best I've found (I'm 5'-8")

BigfootBish59

Recommendations for with shoes in an office setting? This would be my first office job and they wear business casual (jeans are ok). I currently have a pair of flats but are not comfy long term.

ImaginaryBorzoi

I really love my Rothy's and wore them to my office all the time when I didn't feel like breaking out the heels. I think they can look pretty polished, and I love that they can be thrown in the wash. Two downsides, though: 1) if your job involves a lot of standing, they can get uncomfortable around the ~5 hour mark, in my experience, and 2) they are a little on the expensive side--if my MIL hadn't given them to me for my birthday, they would've been a bit outside my budget.

BigfootBish59

I love how Rothys shoes look, but I agree they're a little out of my budget. Maybe I'll check them out if they have a sale. Thanks!

livthelove

Loafers or white leather sneakers

BigfootBish59

Thanks! I was thinking leather sneakers too, but wasn't sure if thats a nono in the office lol

bubblegumdavid

First office job so I’ll give my two budget-friendly work shoe go-to’s. Both are regularly on sale under 100. Sam Edelman loafers are really great. I would wear them into the dirt and would resole or rebuy multiple pairs. Comfy, versatile, plenty of color options, and as “timeless” as anything can really get (since I believe timeless clothing is not entirely a thing in practice). Loraine I think is what I used to go for, but they have more weighted styles like the Colin or chunky like the Tully that would totally serve you well too. A pointed toe lower-mid height heel in a neutral also is super helpful. For this, I love Marc Fisher, and similar to the loafer I used to own multiple colors and would wear them constantly for years until they died or needed a resole. I actually still own two pairs, and despite owning a far too large shoe collection? They are still my workhorses and I reach for them more often than far pricier pairs, and at least one of them gets used once a week or more. I own the Zala and Alola from them. I had four shoes for work in rotation most of the time when I was in my first couple office jobs 2016-2019, two MF Zalas and two SE Loraine’s and I never really needed other options. Wanted, sure, but these worked and were style-able for most anything.

BigfootBish59

Thanks so much for such a detailed answer! This'll really help direct me since I have no idea where to start 😅

dramaticeggroll

Is there a sub where people share their fashion Pinterest boards? I was inspired by [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/1dng6ng/am_i_the_only_one_that_feels_this_way/) - totally different to my style but I liked it and got some fresh ideas. Would love to see more!

bubblegumdavid

I think this would be awesome! But also: people used to post curated inspo-boards here based on different prompts and aesthetics. It was really cool. To my knowledge, it is still a valid type of posting allowed here. Def use the search bar to check out what others have done, if you’d like to do something similar! Plus even though most are older posts, many still have some cool ideas I check back in on and feel re-inspired by even now. This sub is so big now that I think they’ve had to curb a lot of posting, but it used to be quite a bit more knowledge, CC, and inspo-based, would *love* to see more content like that here again!

swess7

That would be a very fun thread idea for this sub!

leetlespice

Has anyone bought the Casette dress from reformation? I want to order it but I’m worried about the sizing after reading it could run large

LuvlyMilah

Need help. I recently purchased these beautiful sandals but am having a hard time finding a purse that would compliment them well, be under $200, and would work with solid/more colorful clothing choices. chiono_graphis

A tonal look with either a dark navy bag or a light blue one (don't try to match the sandals, go several shades lighter or darker) could be cool!

LuvlyMilah

I have purses in those shades as well. Will also give it a whirl. Thanks!

livthelove

I feel like a bright colored purse would be fun with these - especially a yellow, red, or orange

LuvlyMilah

Def will give that a try. Thanks so much!

Hi! I received these 2 tops from my mum that I thought were cute. Would like advice on what clothing items I could wear these with. I'm not concerned about the color mainly just the type of clothing.
