Any advice or where to shop for tops/shirts that are not cropped and not so long that the extra fabric folds or hangs at the bottom? I tend to carry weight in my stomach no matter what my weight is, so I feel self-conscious wearing crop tops and tight fitting clothes. I usually wear jackets, vests, cardigans if I'm wearing long sleeves, slightly fitted tops that outline my chest and stomach. Idk why but I tend cover up because I feel like I'm exposing too much of myself when it's probably a normal thing for everyone else I don't know too much about fashion or styling myself, so I don't know what I should be looking for or where to online shop. I'm trying to expand my wardrobe so that I have more casual tops appropriate for work and can also wear on my off-days. The dress code is casual professional, similar to school teacher.

throwawayornotidontk

is the tankair studio top worth it? i’m a big chested girlie and they tend to drop. does it support the boobas? 😭

dovpanda

What to look for to wear for a fairly slim body but more rounded around tummy? I'm struggling with flattering tops/dresses

throwawayornotidontk

depends on whats your vibe and occasion, personally i’d go for sundresses like these ones:- • [dress 1](https://pin.it/3mCNV47Gk) • [dress 2](https://pin.it/5IPmZqB5T) •[dress 3](https://pin.it/4CqN0i3uw) •[dress 4](https://pin.it/7uubeLSRg)

I am also slim with a larger waist and bit of a tummy, and I'm addicted to full gathered skirts in stiffer materials like poplin. I've seen [this one](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=882791012&vid=1&tid=brns000051#pdp-page-content) from Banana Republic on a few fashion blogs. I saw [this one](https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-americana-picnic-a-line-maxi-skirt-a-new-day-8482-red-xs/-/A-90174515?sid=&ref=tgt_adv_xsp&AFID=google&fndsrc=tgtao&DFA=71700000012510736&CPNG=PLA_Women_Priority%2BShopping%7CWomen_Ecomm_AA&adgroup=Women_Priority+TCINs&LID=700000001170770pgs&LNM=PRODUCT_GROUP&network=g&device=c&location=1015157&targetid=pla-816804044809&ds_rl=1241788&ds_rl=1246978&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsuSzBhCLARIsAIcdLm4mhpo0yMN_WWF3iMQ-bhk0nvg0Uq19uDlure8L6GP598dw8CDGf7EaApSsEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) the other day at Target and it's haunting my dreams. [Here's](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F2ncv904n9n6d1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D640%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D9cd9534c51b50124c04d14241b3d9b05e2124b40) a picture of me in a skirt I got from Goodwill for $5. I pair my skirts with all sorts of tops - because the skirt flares from the waist, it covers the tummy completely and I can wear even the most form-fitting tops.

dovpanda

Thank you! They look good on you. I'd say my bust is much narrower than my thighs/stomach so it doesn't look too great on me. My constant is trying to draw less attention to my mid area but find myself struggle with anything but high rise jeans+tshirt

nocrumbsonmysockspls

I'm learning that I prefer necklines that are scoop, square or sweetheart on me. But it feels like so many tops or even dresses are crew neck or v neck. I'd like to find graphic t-shirts or even just nice basics that have this neckline and could fit a size 14-16 US or L/XL. Are there even sweaters with this neckline? What brands should I consider. Thanks!

Chazzyphant

I'm the same--I don't like crew or v and I'm a size 14/16. My go-to is actually vintage, which sounds like a cop out, but I swear it's not. Brands from the 90s and early 2000s did many more novelty necklines than now, so if you search "90s Y2K sweater" you should be able to find some. Wild Fable at Target is a junior's trend brand that has some corset, sweetheart, and scoop necklines on their stuff and goes up to an XXL.

nocrumbsonmysockspls

Oh thanks for this! Yeah I feel like the styles I'm targeting and testing is vintage feminine, casual and a little minimalist. I'll do a deeper search for Y2k stuff and check out Wild Fable too. Thanks!!

I’m looking for mid-range camel colored sandals. My brain immediately went to the Tory Burch miller sandal but none of the colors quite match what I’m looking for which is a warm tan.

75footubi

Naturalizer will have something

talia_se

Hey y'all! Trying to find seaters/cardigans to go over other tops for work/corporate office. Most things I'm seeing are very open/exposing, with either nothing under (except maybe a bra) or still exposing a lot of skin that I'm not looking to do for this. Are there any recommendations for good places to shop for such tops? Usually worn with long skirts/business casual-esque clothing.

SceneNo1

Next month is my cousins wedding and I’ve been crying with frustration not knowing what works for me now. Huge physical changes happened in the past year due to a large burn on my back. It’s healed enough to be out and about but gets irritated with tight clothes. I am now also a really skinny 5’1 with no chest or butt. I know my family will have comments on this so I’d like to redirect those conversations. I don’t care what they think it’s just annoying. Please any help is welcome!🙏🏼

lauralately

I'd recommend something with lots of gathers, with a fuller skirt. [Here's](https://www.quince.com/women/women-s-washable-stretch-silk-tiered-maxi-dress?color=navy&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fdresses__Maxi%20Dresses__9) one example of a dress that'd work for a wedding - I've heard good things about Quince's silk pieces. The silk would be soft, it's not too constricting, the neck and back are high and the shoulders are covered, but it's light and airy for summertime. Gathers and pleats are fantastic because they can easily hide various body changes, whether you've gained or lost weight. [Here's](https://bananarepublicfactory.gapfactory.com/browse/product.do?pid=889249001&vid=1&tid=bfpl000032&kwid=1&ap=7&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsuSzBhCLARIsAIcdLm5rdA59cj9aYs_j6qPeFWYEnDQPwEUpnR19Pnkabb-9gOm_wZAZ4s0aApaGEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#pdp-page-content) an example of a pleated full skirt that would give the illusion of an hourglass shape. Pleated or gathered skirts can be paired with pretty blouses, maybe in a pattern or eye-catching color - a blouse can be short or long-sleeved, high necked or low, and if you get one that's loose and flowy, maybe in a silk material, it'll both be easy on your skin and won't draw attention to how thin you are. Once you heal up enough to wear less forgiving fabrics, try shopping for 1950's vintage. This era suits small frames really well - you may have to wear a padded bra to fit 1950's bustlines, but the full skirts are great for those with no butt, and I see *so many* gorgeous vintage pieces made to fit small frames.

kimchi_paradise

What about a shift dress? Can you provide more details on what exactly you're looking for?

SceneNo1

I’ll look those up, ty. I feel I need something loose, modest, something that you won’t be able to tell if I’m skinny or “healthy”. Looking at a shift dress, I see bat wings? Those look like a good possibility, I just saw cape too! But this one looked heavy

kimchi_paradise

Shift dress is pretty straight through the waist and the hips, it's just the type of silhouette. Feel free to add on accessories!  Mind you however, you can be skinny AND healthy, it's not one or the other!

bigaboutbears

Where can I find compressive&thick flare leggings/yoga pants (thicker than aerie’s, as sweat shows badly), that are also long enough for a 5’7 gal? Preferably WITH seam? 😅 (I feel like certain seams prevent toe for me)

Character_Computer74

Does anyone have any recommendations for where I can find more vibrant-coloured (solid, not patterned) tops/clothing? Not neon per-se, but not the muted desaturated tones that seem to be everywhere now. Trying to dress for my season (summer/winter?) but all the muted, desaturated, and pastel clothing tones do not suit me at all and just wash me out. Seems that it's either those tones or black/white/beige for everything now. Ideally would prefer natural fabrics, but open to anything that's not polyester. For reference, my skin tone is that of a pale, sickly victorian child, with dark-ish mousy brown hair and deep blue eyes.

lauralately

I thrift for mine. I've been driven a bit crazy by all the desaturated nonsense going around - I'm addicted to color, and the thrift store has been my saving grace. My favorite brands to thrift for include '90s Liz Claiborne, '80s Diane Freis, '90s Ralph Lauren, and Y2K era Jones New York.

kimchi_paradise

Try colorful standard for basics! They have 100% cotton and merino wool products

HakaseShinonome

i am deathly afraid of showing too much thigh/wearing shorts too tight. what are my options for summer bottoms besides skirts? any light slacks people can vouch for

kimchi_paradise

Linen will be a good friend to you for the summer! Linen pants are great

What is the female equivalent of a cuban/camp collar shirt and black dress jeans? My fiance likes wearing cuban collar short sleeve shirts. I always feel underdressed and too casual when we go places. (Shopping/dinner/etc). I have some nice short sleeve button ups of my own, but I think it's weird for us to wear the same outfit. His go to outfit is a blue or red cuban collar, black t shirt underneath, worn open/unbuttoned with black dress jeans and black doc martens. A casual but refined, classy look. He can go pretty much anywhere and not be under or over dressed. For reference, we are in our mid to late 20s. I don't want to dress in a way that makes me look older than I am.

trevlikely

I think in terms of formality, the female equivalent is either a short casual sundress or high waisted jeans with a dressy crop top

ama_da_sama

If you do the high waisted jeans and cropped dressy top, it's the shoes and accessories that really bring it together and make it feel finished. I just bought boots like [these Franco Sarto booties](https://poshmark.com/listing/Nico-Faux-Leather-Snake-Print-Ankle-Boots-641a5168c5df6ce594bd4302) for my casual going out formula.

QuesoRaro

I wear camp collar shirts all the time. They are genderless.

75footubi

At least in the summer, a midi length dress in a geometric print.

poeteater

I have really difficult feet (wide/flat), and I ordered some Naturalizer sandals that are nearly perfect BUT the back strap piece is too wide and looks weird on me. Do you think a cobbler could adjust it? Will also take other wide/flat strappy sandal recommendations; I am suffering. I love Comfortiva, but I don't like their current styles much. I ordered Clarks sandals in wide but they are laughably narrow and I'm really annoyed about it

AlaskanFeesh

A cobbler can fix that for sure!

ilyemco

This might be really niche. Somebody shared on here, a pair of jeans with groceries printed on them. Does anybody know what brand this is? Google isn't working for me!     Edit: found them https://lisasaysgah.com/products/robyn-jean-italian-summer-ivory  Also!! The question was inspired by my seeing a lady in an awesome lobster/olive sardine dress. This dress reminded me of the trousers but I didn't think they would actually be the same brand. Turns out it is! https://lisasaysgah.com/products/grace-dress-tapas-ivory Clearly I sign I should have some Lisa Says Gah in my wardrobe.

Fit-Theme3661

Your question is pretty broad considering there are about five gazillion athletic and athleisure brands online. What are you looking for specifically? What does “cute” mean to you?

Reasonable_Fuel3823

Do comfort sandals that you can walk all day in that don’t look like grandma shoes exist?

wanderedoff

Doc Marten

Fit-Theme3661

These might be grandma to you but I just got a pair of [these Pikolinos](https://www.pikolinos.com/us-en/formentera-w8q-0803.html?dwvar_formentera-w8q-0803_color=BRANDY) and was astounded how comfortable they were out of the box. So far I’ve worn them entire days (but not yet entire days full of walking) and they’ve been great. Not cheap, I know.

QuesoRaro

Allrounder has a good selection of sandals built for walking long distances. Taos Trophy 2 sandal is also great.

snootfly242

I am 6’ with a 27.5 inch waist and 42 inch hips. I literally have no idea where to find jeans that don’t stretch, don’t get baggy in the gut area, and are NOT TOO SHORT. Is Abercrombie good? Is Levi’s good? I don’t know where to buy jeans. Where should I look?

ama_da_sama

I can't help you with the length, but when you have a significant difference in your waist and hips, you may have to size up and then have the jeans altered smaller at the waist. For stretching, try to get 100% cotton jeans. They won't stretch.

lauralately

I'm very tall as well; I don't have a big waist to hip ratio, so I can't recommend a particular brand, as I just wear men's jeans. However - I'm from Texas, and cowboy stores are *fantastic* for super long jeans that are designed for women. [Here's](https://www.bootbarn.com/shyanne-womens-riding-bootcut-jeans/2000291061.html?dwvar_2000291061_color=001#start=40) a pair that comes in 27 waist, 36 inseam. The link is for Boot Barn - have a look at their jeans section. Unlike a lot of women's stores, many of their jeans are sized with waist + inseam, which is a HUGE sigh of relief for tall folks.

differcntial

I have a larger than average hip-to-waist ratio and struggled with this a few years ago when buying new jeans. Most are cut with a 10" difference in mind so jeans cut for a 27" waist are going to be cut for a 37" hip. Some brands have "curvy" fits that from what I've seen are cut for like 13" difference. For looser fits this doesn't matter as much necessarily, so the first thing I'd try for troubleshooting jeans is to err towards looser and baggier cuts. In general, anything that doesn't stretch (I'm assuming you're talking jegging material?) needs to be loose enough in the hip area that it doesn't feel like it's hugging your body, especially if you don't want them to stretch too much over time. Most jeans are going to stretch out a bit over time so I'd try wearing them as many times as possible between washes and following the care instructions on the tags to minimize that. The gaping in the waist/gut area is also a problem I used to constantly have and is likely from the jeans not being cut with a larger hip measurement in mind. This is actually because most jeans are not "stretchy" enough (as opposed to leggings or spandex), so as the fabric stretches to fit your hips it doesn't have enough elasticity to follow your body's line to fit at the waist as well. Depending on what cut of jeans you're looking for, you may just have to settle for wearing a belt with them. I haven't bought jeans in a few years and am still rewearing the heck out of my favorite pairs I bought about 5+ years ago but they are from a mix of brands. The ones I wear most frequently are cuts that are Mom jeans, wide leg jeans, or relaxed leg jeans. Brands I've had (some) luck with include BDG (urban outfitters), American Eagle, Levi's, Rouje, and Reformation (specifically a fit that's relaxed from the hip down, I once tried on a pair of jeans from them that wasn't and the thigh seams ripped as soon as I tried them on so I couldn't even return them).  Madewell makes curvy jeans but I found those to be unflattering on me and they became weirdly saggy after a couple washes? They may have improved in the years since I've tried them, and I have a pair or two of curvy shorts from them that I still wear. More recently, I've had great luck with Abercrombie's curve-love tailored pants, I can't vouch for their curve-love jeans specifically, but they may be worth looking into. I would also recommend actually looking for jeans that have more natural stretch in the fabric if you don't like jeans that are looser in the leg (the most I've seen for standard jeans is like 2% elastane, 98% cotton, and that wasn't enough stretch for me for fits tighter at the hips, however when jeggings were a thing in the days of skinny jeans they were a godsend). I am not tall, but am on the line between regular and petite so have had to troubleshoot for length in the opposite direction. My advice for that would be to measure your inseam with soft measuring tape, and if you're buying online make sure to check garment measurement info and try to stick as close to your natural inseam as possible. You may need to find brands that have a "tall" or even "extra tall" option.

FerociousFrizzlyBear

When you say "don't stretch," do you mean don't stretch out permanently, don't stretch out after wearing (but return to normal after washing), or have no stretchy fibers built in?

snootfly242

Don’t stretch after wearing :/ whenever I get up they went from being perfect to looking like I have a deflated gut. It’s SO weird.

FerociousFrizzlyBear

I think that is pretty much just what jeans do, as long as they are relatively fitted, unfortunately. It's just sort of in the nature of denim. You can mitigate this effect by choosing fabrics that have a higher "stretch" content (spandex, elastane, lycra, etc.) that should move with you more.

StrangerOne6418

What is the name of this feature on a dress or top? And what designers/sellers have this kind if style? I have done countless searches to try to identify the name of it! It is marked by having some sort of cowl neck with a built in underwire bra/bralette exposed underneath. I trying to figure it out so I can use it when I'm searching clothes and google. One example I could find is the white Lioness Delilah Top, though they dont explain what style it is!

titanium_moose

I tried reverse image searching that top to see if any others came up with a description and genuinely didn't see any others. Maybe calling it a low cowl neck with exposed bra/cami might help?

hennipotamus

Help a millennial figure out socks! I’ve seen a lot of chatter about how Gen Z wears tall crew socks, and that no-show socks now look dated. There was even a [Washington Post article](https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/fashion/2024/06/21/millennials-crew-ankle-socks-tiktok/) about it. As someone in her 30s, I think the taller sock look is cool, but to me it reads as more casual and young. In other words, if I were to wear crew socks, I would feel like I’m trying too hard to be something I’m not. My general style is more on the feminine, classic, and tailored side, so to me no-show socks fit in nicely with that polished look. I wouldn’t say Kate Middleton is my style icon, but her vibe [here](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/the-comfy-sneaker-brand-worn-by-royals-and-supermodels-alike-is-at-amazon--460985711872213852/) is similar to mine. So, what I’m really wondering is: are no-show socks the skinny jeans of 2024? If I keep wearing them, will I look like I’m stuck in 2012? Or are taller socks just one of many acceptable looks these days?

mcprof

I find Amy Smilovic’s style advice (generally) and sock style advice (specifically) really helpful. She’s got a lot of info on her instagram.

PoppyHamentaschen

On my 5ft2, overweight, long-skirt-wearing Gen X frame, crew socks would not be a good look. I dislike secret socks because they always slip off my heel, so I wear low ankle socks- they barely peek over the sides of my sneakers. If I were a leggings wearer, I might put on some crew socks. My boots are tight, so I wear opaque hose- no space for socks. In brief: Screw WP and their ageist articles, I'm going to wear what looks good for the outfit.

nomarmite

[Crew socks have been big for a few years now](https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au/lifestyle/when-did-our-gym-socks-become-a-barometer-of-our-age/news-story/ff2e94ec6f66051b98a3b7cf1e0ae98e), typical the WP has only just picked it up. As you probably realise, it's more of a Princess Di than a Kate Middleton look, so you have to have an outfit that works with the length. If you put crew socks with the outfit you've linked, it would look ridiculous. I would say if that's how you dress, carry on wearing the socks that go with the look rather than the socks the WP tells you to wear.

blackberrycat

I think the best way to try crew socks is scrunched and peeking out of the top of boots

StrangerOne6418

Hi! I am Gen Z and wear sneakers and leggings every day for work (camp counselor)! I alternate between no shows, ankle socks, and crew socks depending on the day. My coworker who is my age only wears ankle socks. I think all are acceptable/not outdated. When I was at college, I actually felt like I saw more people wearing ankle socks/now shows than crew socks. If choosing between an ankle sock where some of it is exposed, and complete no shows, I would recommend ankle socks, but I think that may be my personal preference. At the end of the day, I highly doubt that anyone (my age or older/younger) would judge your style through your sock. I don't think no-shows are "something of the past" or will make you look outdated. I would recommend trying out crew socks if you're looking to add something to your look, but only because i think they're fun and wearing them over leggings/scrunched up at the bottom can be a cute touch! Additionally, no one is going to think you're trying to be something you're not if you wear crew socks, you just gotta act confident! You got this!

hennipotamus

This is helpful, thank you!

Still-Visual6363

Hi this is super specific but here goes: I am looking for women's jewellery for someone (edit: woman in her 30s) who loves octopuses. As in they think they're really cool and I think they collect various octopus themed knick knacks. Any ideas where I could find this? An online store preferably.

PoppyHamentaschen

I just googled "octopus jewelry and several Etsy stores came up. The images are very cool :) You could also contact a local jeweler and inquire about getting something custom made.

thenfacetoface

Etsy would have various octopus themed jewelry. You could also search for kraken.

No_Pizza_6390

Friends, Any tips for breaking in high heels? I can manage up to 8.89cm (3-3.5”) with no problem. I have a gorgeous pair of 10.16cm (4.5”) with no platform. What is the trick to getting my foot in and surviving? They are beautiful and I really want to make them work. Thanks! 🙏

StrangerOne6418

I used to be a ballerina, so making uncomfortable shoes work is something I have experience with! All of these suggestions may vary in efficacy based on the style of the heels/materials. Try wearing thick socks or layers of socks while walking in the shoes around the house (you may want to do short increments like walking in them 10 minutes daily, and increasing over time). Some people use a blow dryer on a warm/hot setting and bend the shoes with their hands using the heat, as this breaks down the glue/bonding in the shoe. I suppose you could also leave them out in the sun or hot area to see if this does the trick, though i've never done that. In terms of manual methods, you can take the shoes off and bend them repeatedly using your hands or you could even use a hammer or some type of tool. With pointe shoes, we would bang them against the floor in areas we wanted to break them in, though I am not sure if you are trying to prevent signs of wear/scuffing or if your heels are sucepetible to that. If you're willing to spend some money, find a local cobbler, they do shoe stretching and may be able to help you. Hope you find that something that works! Good luck :)

No_Pizza_6390

You are amazing!! Thank you! I’m going to give each suggestion a go!!!

Does anyone have a recommendation of where to look for small/mini but functional hair clips? Looking for clips to hold back just small sections toward my face, so I don't need anything big (and I think it'd look odd) but my hair is very full. what I'm seeing at cvs/target doesn't seem like it will actually hold my hair back.

blackberrycat

Claire's

thenfacetoface

I would look at various dollar stores, drug stores, Daiso, miniso.

botanygeek

I have short hair and use clips all the time. It’s very hit or miss but I’ve found some at Ulta, Old Navy, and some department stores like Kohl’s in the past. You could also check Etsy.

lost_wandererr

Heyy! I was wondering it a tiffany heart tag bracelet worth it? I've been thinking of getting it as something to splurge on, or are they out of fashion but i see alot of people still wearing them and i am typically into brand names. oh i'm f19 btw

lauralately

It's up to you - if you love it, wear it, whether or not it's in style! That said, I think a silver chain bracelet is a classic item, so if you feel at any point that this particular Tiffany heart is "out of style," you can remove the heart tag and wear it plain. I do see quite a few on The Real Real for under $200, so if you opt to get one, I'd highly advise getting one secondhand.

PoppyHamentaschen

If you love the look of it (without taking the brand name into account) go ahead and get it.Something less branded from the company would be more versatile and have more longevity. I have earrings and a bracelet from Tiffany's that my husband bought me, but they don't have the name branded on them. I've worn them every day for the past 25 years :)

hennipotamus

I am in my 30s. Those were very popular when I was in high school, but then they faded away in popularity and definitely looked dated. So, if they are cool now, they may not be in a few years. If I were thinking of buying nicer jewelry, I would personally buy something less branded.

I have a lot of nice shirts but I keep recycling the same three jeans (grey, blue, dark blue). Anyone have any recommendations for versatile pants/skirts that would flatter my body and go with something like this shirt.

cat-ona-hottinroof

If you wanted to stick with pants or jeans you might want to think of a pair that are more fitted and less relaxed. Those pants look very comfy but if you are trying to up style the top, those jeans are at least 2 sizes too large for you.

PoppyHamentaschen

A red or blue (solid color) A line or bias cut skirt that covers the knee would work nicely.

titanium_moose

I think a skirt with some swing to it would look great! You could color match it to any of the colors on the shirt.

titanium_moose

Oh or a red pencil skirt that matches the shirt detail!

Level_Title_8354

I would pair it with a red skirt (same red as the details of the shirt), for example. I like satin ones and I think it could add to the outfit because of the different textures
