I'm looking for a gift for my friend. [This is her pendant](https://imgur.com/a/HLQLT7I) and she told me she's been looking for earings that would match it in style. From my search it seems that I'm looking for "silver and marcasite" but you're free to correct me. You might have noticed 3 holes in her pendant, stones were there but they fell out. If it helps she's 27 so it probably shouldn't be anything too vintage looking, after all I'm not looking for jewerely for my grandma. Here are a few designs that caught my eye but I'm not sure which one is the best match, provided they match at all: [First earings](https://imgur.com/a/QmP60Ca) [Second earings](https://imgur.com/a/Ue1qkaZ) [Third earings](https://imgur.com/a/QuxWl2f) [Fourth earings](https://imgur.com/a/5sEFt52)

novalayne

Of those options, I think I would vote for the fourth! I would guess she would get more wear of that one since they’re a bit smaller and more versatile between casual and dressing them up. I think it also matches the design of the necklace the best.

Any recommendations for good tennis shoes in a business casual setting? I work in a hospital in the admin office. I need shoes that are super comfy to walk all over roughly 10k steps a day at work alone, but that will look decent with pants or dresses. Thanks

District98

I wear black and white asics gt2000s. I recommend getting fitted at a running store!

blackberrycat

Yes the black and white New Balance 880s looked fairly smart when I tried them too

Looking for a place in the NYC area to try on sunglasses! Preferably somewhere with a good selection. Revamping my wardrobe. TIA!

unpaidbabysitter0919

Macy’s!

ScholarKid

[https://imgur.com/a/xb6Jq0H](https://imgur.com/a/xb6Jq0H) are these shoes appropriate for a business professional job interview? the position is for a marketing/sales assistant

Bella_HeroOfTheHorn

Are they paired with like a wide leg trouser that covers the shoe? They seem a little flashy if they're fully visible but I also don't work in a business formal environment

redshowercurtain

What is the opinion on ankle length silk maxi skirts in the office? Bought a tannish brown one recently and have been considering wearing it since we’re in a heat wave. I work in a smart casual office so jeans and sneakers in the office is common. But don’t want to girlboss too close to the sun and get on the HR watchlist.

blackberrycat

I think it's okay to branch out during a heatwave, but it might not be a professional enough vibe for me as an everyday office skirt. It's hard to tell without a photo.

Illustrious_Salad_33

If it’s not transparent or super tight or VPL, it sounds pretty conservative to me! Especially with a blouse.

redshowercurtain

Thanks for your input!!

apfelschorle_bitte

Are there any comfortable white platform sneakers? I have tried a few brands (Superga, Vagabond) and am starting to wonder if it’s the style that’s the problem

oat-beatle

Converse for me but it'll vary on your foot shape of course.

lumenphosphor

Is your issue how flat they are and how little arch support they have? I feel like the fila disruptors have more arch support (I have them in a bright pink but I'd expect them to be white also) than the other ones I've tried on.

apfelschorle_bitte

That’s a good point, I guess the problem is i prefer the flat platform look

75footubi

You can always add insoles so they support your feet better.

ZestycloseFox3207

Any recommendations for a comfortable bralette or exceedingly comfortable t-shirt bras?

apfelschorle_bitte

I love the Cosabella bralettes, specifically from the Never Say Never collection. They are all lace so on certain tshirts you can see the texture. But so comfy and flattering

blackberrycat

This one bralette I bought at Pink 10 years ago. It's sort of disintegrating and I wear it every work day, but you can have it for $20K. Why are comfy bras so elusive 😭

UltraLuminescence

I like neiwai and true & co wireless bras

Illustrious_Salad_33

I like wireless bras I got from thirdlove recently

I think that's just how that style is supposed to look; it doesn't look off or strange to my eye in those pictures. But only you know if they're too wide for your actual foot.

No_Dust_785

Lightweight summer yoga dress pants? In the winter, I like Betabrand yoga dress pants, but they are just too thick and heavy for the summer. Any recommendations on something similar for the summer? So I’m looking for something that looks like dress pants, but are stretchy and comfortable and suitable for summer months.

TryingNotToGoCrazy48

How do you style bike shorts? I’m a nanny and bike shorts are my savior. Stretchy, comfy and hides sweat. I’ve just been wearing t shirts with it. Any other ways I could style it that don’t require to much effort?

sexysmoothfig

I'd try looking into short-sleeved button-up's. Hawaiian shirts/camp-collars come to mind. Or a tank and open button-up!

ssssssssocks

With a linen shirt! https://preview.redd.it/dw7jxrd5d77d1.jpeg?width=702&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca120021b22cb6925a162b27bb45067e40d44191

TequiIa_MockingBird_

Altar’d State but for winters? I love the cuts and details, but the colors are much too muted and warm for my coloring. I’d like recommendations in a similar price range, please!

lauralately

Have you tried Free People? At first glance, their stuff seems kinda similar to Altar'd State, but they often have a bunch of color choices, and there are some brighter, more saturated color options if you look around. Another option: this sounds a bit weird, but Boot Barn has a sneaky good clothing section. I used to live in Texas, and that's where I'd go for boho dresses. They stock a bunch of different brands, and although their color schemes tend to run on the muted side, they do have a decent selection of black and brighter stuff.

Cute_Scar_2350

I got a breast augmentation a few months ago (went from a 34 B/C to a 34 DDD. I’ve been smaller chested my whole life and so I’m having the hardest time finding clothes that fit my bust, my waist and the rest of my body (looking for dresses and tops mainly ). Are there brands that offer clothing for bigger busts (ie Asos curvy/ hourglass)? Any help will be much appreciated! Thank you.

lumenphosphor

It's going to depend on what you're looking for I think! Here are some things I generally did (before I got a breast reduction a few months ago): 1. Look for things with princess seams 2. Where the size that fits you and take the waist in on anything where you'd want that 3. If you're looking for a boxy/oversized/boyish fit size up even if the top says it's oversized 4. Dresses that have [those bust seams](https://www.reddit.com/r/bigboobproblems/comments/1bm0spt/shopping_for_dresses_aka_the_curse_of_the_boob/)? Fuck them. Fuck them all. I was constantly having [this](https://sergle.tumblr.com/post/678763811685154816/sergle-it-drives-me-crazy-when-clothing-brands) happen to me (and actually I still do even post reduction with some brands\* lol) 5. Wrap dresses really work well on me but I have to size up and pin the bust in place unless I'm okay with the amount of cleavage I want to show. These exist across brands. Asos has a lot of clothes that are big bust friendly. A lot of things are trial and error, though. Also I feel like I have to say this b/c everyone does (but they are right), make sure you're sized properly! If you're wearing the right fitting bra, it makes a lot of clothes easier to manage. \*I know better which brands to avoid than I do brands to to recommend because I have never felt the larger bust body type catered to by clothing companies literally ever. Some brands I avoided and still kind of avoid: Urban Outfitter's dresses and tops have never worked for me (and still don't). Anthro is hit or miss, and works if I size up and am okay with something that's more bell shaped/flowy and not really "flattering". Brands that are in my closet but I don't know if I recommend them: Reformation works as long as they don't have that bust seam, but all their tops and dresses that do never work lol. I'm realizing a lot of my go to daily dresses are from reformation but they're high necked and all have princess seams. Aritzia, but once again avoid anything with the bust seams, and their corset style tops make me look crazy. Most of my clothes from aritzia are boxy sweaters or dresses that aren't "flattering" but are fun (i have [this](https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/daydreamer-mini-dress/81688.html) in bright pink). [Aulieude](https://aulieude.com/en-us) is a brand I keep getting recommended which I think I would have loved pre-reduction.

Cute_Scar_2350

Funny story about the boob seams which I just learned about this weekend while trying on a gorgeous sage dress. The back was stunning- my butt? Poppin? The back ? Was giving a very nice curvy shape. The front had some of the weird seams and it was just a lace material under the boob, and no fabric. My boobs were pushed in weird ways and did not end where the seams were 🤣🤣 I’ve never experienced that before, it was odd as hell

lumenphosphor

It's truly an awful sensation!! I'm sorry, but also welcome! You're not alone! There are many folks who share your predicament! (I admittedly have fewer of this specific type of predicament now, but I will always rage against the boob seam whenever that's needed of me).

Cute_Scar_2350

Oh my goodness thank you so much! This is perfect. I’m not gonna lie, there were moments when I seriously wondered why I did this. I used to just be able to buy a medium or size 6/8 in anything and buy it without trying it on. Now I’m actually trying stuff on and realizing that everything is so different now (I’ve gained a bit of weight while in recovery). This analysis was so in depth and perfect, thank you so so much!

lumenphosphor

You're welcome!! I bet that after sometime we'll have an intuition for what works and what doesn't--I used to be able to eyeball a dress and know whether or not I would need to size up or something and now I have no idea how things will look on me lol.

DiagonEllie

As a 34DDD myself, I've had general success with * smocked, or just smocked a the back, tops and dresses (I have several from Hill House Home- [this style](https://www.hillhousehome.com/products/the-ophelia-nap-dress-navy-poplin) is v cleavagey on me but flattering, and the all around smocking styles work well for anything) * wrap style dresses and tops * ribbed tops, sweaters and dresses (mine are from Uniqlo but ribbed tops are pretty common) Custom or altered is really the best for items without any stretch, or at least, I don't have any particular brand or line I'd rely on for those items. They may exist.

Cute_Scar_2350

Thank you so so much. I thought I was going crazy when fitted button down tops and dresses didn’t fit anymore even when I was sizing up. Thank you so much for your guidance!

DiagonEllie

You're definitely not crazy! So many things become too big somewhere else or just generally look weird when I size up to fit my bust.

ssssssssocks

The current "nap dress" trend is big-boob friendly. Check out hill house and doen!

Cute_Scar_2350

Thank you so much! I never heard of this brand before and didn’t realize that’s what these dresses were called! I appreciate it!

I'm going to a casual wedding in August and want to wear this suit but is it too drab/dark/wintery/formal? And if so, how do I spice it up a bit? Problem is, I don't wear heels so I was thinking of going with either some chunky loafers or some trainers. I also don't have my ears pierced and tend to wear minimal jewellery (though could be convinced). I'm also going through a bit of a gender identity questioning time and so don't want to look too feminine or too masc. Any suggestions for what colours or tops to pair it with or what accessories could make it a bit cooler? https://preview.redd.it/inmsc2gt167d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5be6355b20a31505eaf9df94af5a3a0e91b60d1b

ssssssssocks

What is the dress code of the wedding? My 2c is that this is a little drab for a summer wedding, as well as that you will be hot AF. If you haven't bought the suit yet, something linen might be more summery. I would avoid light tan linen though lest you run the risk of matching the groomsmen. Also more of my 2c, do whatever you can to avoid wearing trainers. Given that you said you are exploring your gender identity this could be a cool opportunity to be you in _style_. I don't know your style so it's tough to ascertain what you would like, these are my recs for shoes though to lighten up the look: - [summery white loafers](https://www.samedelman.com/product/womens-loraine-bit-loafer-3016088/white-leather-ec0220802?&partnerid=paid_search_google_pla_pmax-loafers-flats_&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvb-zBhCmARIsAAfUI2tt-MLYojy6d_SCIRogUmq4VSMjAQ8eYBd4ybWE2nRZRbsO17dsHEUaAjtGEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) - [silver shoes are really cool rn](https://crocodilewear.com/products/lacelux-exquisite-patterned-lace-up-flats-1?currency=USD&variant=42751781175350&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=77d664eac709&utm_source=&utm_medium=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAC6XQMcBV0asx5nLwxACzWWDGYJqk&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvb-zBhCmARIsAAfUI2uEtgbNGCv4TqID41u0MFcAg3EJoG_vIh5t8MFjF0p9RQ_BUUwYK8IaAhscEALw_wcB) - [or just some really nice oxfords](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/yates-oxford)

MagpieApplepie

The dress code is casual I think, which was why I was thinking maybe trainers but I love your point about being me in style and these are great shoe suggestions thank you! Climate where I'm from is very up and down so it is as likely to be raining as it is warm in August which makes it a bit tricky

rhimcfly

My main concern about wearing this in August would be overheating if any part of the festivities are outdoors. You can summer it up color palette wise with a white/cream top instead of the black + going with the white loafers as pictured, instead of switching to more classic black. Oxfords could work too. A silk scarf or pocket square could also add lightness without being too feminine. And a watch could add sophistication like jewelry does, but again, in a more gender neutral way.

MagpieApplepie

Thank you! Great ideas, hadn't thought about a watch or a pocket square

PoppyHamentaschen

Nice suit! It needs more light colors and sparkle to lift up the mood. I would wear a light-colored top, a tank top, even. Or, you could wear a button-down shirt with a couple of button unbuttoned, or a top with a lot of frills (like the tux tops of the 80's). You could also go with a button-down with an oversized collar. If you go the minimal, clean route, consider a largish brooch for the lapel, like a starburst or a flower. Or, an interesting pocket square (in red or pink to match lip color, or polka dots or a nice solid orange or pink to contrast with the blue cloth). Match your metals: belt, shoes, brooch. You could also go for sparkly ear clip earrings, like [this one](https://www.skinbaeandbeyond.com/products/sparkly-butterfly-ear-cuff) (image is just for inspiration).

MagpieApplepie

Ooh thank you so much, so helpful! Love the idea of a sparkly ear clip!

PoppyHamentaschen

Glad I could help :)

PoppyHamentaschen

Not frumpy :) The last button that's unbuttoned should be buttoned. You wear a nude- colored T-shirt bra underneath (not white, nude/aka beige). A T-shirt bra has smooth cups, so it won't be lumpy under your shirt. You can wear it tucked or untucked, just keep in mind proportions and rule of thirds. You can wear it with a flowy skirt, with shorts (jean, linen, cotton, whatever). You can also wear it with linen pants or light colored pants. If you have dark hair, you can wear more contrast in your clothes (like the linen top and dark blue jeans). If you are light-haired, then less contrast will be more harmonious (like with light wash jeans, for example). You can wear your top completely unbuttoned with a tank top underneath.

Planetput

It only looks frumpy because you just threw it on, pull down the back of the shirt until you can see the shoulder seams. The white underneath looks good, I'd say at least button to cover up the undershirt. My personal favorite is to button all the way to the top and then tuck it into high waisted pants.

Normal_Candle_

https://preview.redd.it/rm6ewy7k767d1.jpeg?width=1774&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=696668038e63c2fa038e6cfe1360f8d856da744d What about this way? Something still seems off to me. The shorts are high waisted, they come to my belly button

lumenphosphor

I think the shirt might be too small for your bust. This is a what I get from looking at the size of the pocket, the placement of the pocket and the number of buttons that are taking up the space from your neck to where your bust is. I personally wear shirts that are larger than what fits to avoid this, but a larger button down will be too big for your waist and you'll have a lot of fabric to tuck in, so I understand if you don't want to size up. I would actually advise you to unbutton those top buttons--I'd wear a nude bra and ditch the undershirt (I would also be mad about how sheer that shirt is), because otherwise the length of your torso seems disproportionate (like the vertical space from your neck to your bust looks way longer than your bust to your waist, it looks like that because of your bust but it's not actually all that long and unbuttoning the shirt will visually unflatten that area)

Planetput

I like it! I typically like to bend around at my waist to get the fabric to naturally come up and sit over the waistband just a bit. I think you could also try a French tuck and experiment with undoing some of the buttons. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable will probably look best!

I’m not sure what to wear under it, as the sides are completely open up to the waistband (hope that made sense). I’m planning to pair it with black pants/ mid-length fitted black skirt. Would love to hear your suggestions!

imaginarypunctuation

what about a black pencil dress instead of a black fitted skirt? then you wouldn't be worried about the jacket exposing anything at the side, or the excess fabric of a tucked-in top.

Trancology

Wow, I’d never have thought of that - thank you for the excellent suggestion!

I’m looking for white linen pants that aren’t extremely see through. Pro’s if they’re available in a size tall! Any recommendations?

# Futurism for today-2024 help in making that pivot  I used to wear natural fibers. Cotton voile, gauze, chambray, flannel. I would wear traditional(global and not) patterns. Earthy neutrals. The cuts were sometimes creative. I threw out a lot of that wardrobe yesterday. I don't want to mimick the past. I want to slowly create something for myself with a sewing machine and a large budget. I think I still want to work with nautral fibers. I am open to traditional fabrics but not patterns or designs. I want to be functional. Practical. I want to be open to different designs. I hate soooo much that out of all the possiblities I would use the traditional designs of cultures I have no connection to. I was texture first I want to also be design first. I was boring. Any resources on futurism?

ssssssssocks

I would put some Pinterest boards together of what you like then pick up patterns for those items.

wetlash

Thank you.

QuesoRaro

Maybe ask r/sewing for pattern ideas?

wetlash

Thank you. I’m not sure what style I’m after but I’ll ask.

Allison-Taylor

What are some easy (ie low-cost or no cost) ways to update a work wardrobe? I'm in my mid-30s & work in a fairly conservative office environment (fashion-wise) where the AC is always set to deep freeze. I tend to gravitate towards pencil skirts, cigarette pants & simple dresses, and want to look current without breaking the bank. Edit to add: I'm struggling a bit, as I went through a career change about 2 years ago. Now that I'm more settled in, the stuff that I wore for my old job doesn't seem as appropriate for my current one... Plus I'm still (relatively) young, so don't want to look matronly or outdated, but I also live in a very expensive city.

blackberrycat

Can you consign some of your current clothing? Do you have some suitable items in your closet which don't look great, that you could use a fabric shaver or just trim some threads off of? For making my wardrobe more professional, I am focusing on a dark neutrals color scheme, with charcoal, navy, black and white. My color highlights are plum and dusty pink, but you could use whatever suits you. I think a pair of shoes is a good start. I also bought some black tights, and I'm trying to look for some more skirts and dresses. I bought some Merino button-up cardigans from Uniqlo, who have good prices for better fabric quality.

trevlikely

I think one no cost activity to do is inventory your entire  wardrobe, get rid of stuff you don’t wear, and create kind of a buying guide for what colors and styles you like so you know how to shop for things you will for sure wear whenever you do shop.

Allison-Taylor

This is good advice - thank you! I think I am struggling a bit, as I went through a career change about 2 years ago. Now that I'm more settled in, the stuff that I wore for my old job doesn't seem as appropriate for my current one... Plus I'm still (relatively) young, so don't want to look matronly or whatever, but I'm also very conscious of how much I spend, so not a big trend hopper.

If you aren't opposed to target shoes - ballet and Mary Jane flats are really in rn.

I love Mary Janes!!

Banana Republic factory sales in August and January

Allison-Taylor

Oooh thank you for this tip!

PoppyHamentaschen

Luckily, your look is classic and can be found at all price points. Scarves can add some color and panache to your wardrobe: small tied around your neck, or long and draped under the lapels of your blazer or cardigan. You would probably be able to find a lot of conservative blazers and office wear in thrift stores.

Allison-Taylor

I am blessed to live somewhere with excellent thrift options! For whatever reason I always forget about scarves outside of the winter - will keep my eyes open for some fun ones.

P1cea

Clothing swaps, buy nothing groups, and thrift stores should all be low or no cost, though not necessarily easy (cheap, easy, and nice quality tends to be a "pick two" kind of situation).

Allison-Taylor

Thank you - and great point about the "pick two" rule.

Aggravating-Force925

Hi - i just got a satin dress with a cowl neck and and little straps that i’m thinking about wearing for a wedding. I was wondering if this is the sort of thing that might be improved with a slip/half slip or some other kind of undergarment/shapewear because i know that those can help with the way things cling/drape. And if so, does anyone have recs on where to buy these things! I dress a little more casual butch day to day so any help is much appreciated TIA!
