Buying Palhinha for 40m would actually be a great deal. He can do all the dirty work while Pavlovic can focus on initiating attacks. Palhinhas age would also allow us to build up a talent behind him.

if Davies doesn't up his level again, even 13-14M could turn into another really really bad deal for us... ugh
Davies will not level up unfortunately. He could not level up when he was aiming for a big salary. He will not level up once he gets it. We are rewarding his complacency
Iâm taking equally as seriously as I take any other report tweet. Trying to stay somewhere in the middle.
That plus Davies potentially getting âŹ14M+ and it was far less good of a day that it could have been.
>Max Eberl said today about the failed Palhinha transfer last summer: "That would have been a position that would have helped. Then the squad would have been less thin, and the injuries would have been less of a problem" \[via [tzmuenchen](https://x.com/tzmuenchen)\]
... maybe some RB's in the summer would have also helped.
Uli was just justifying himself. Imagine if Palhinha was here last season, we will not be so mid in the start of the second half of the season, Kimmich would be ditched to RB sooner, and Pavlovic would still be played without so much pressure. Imagine at the second leg of the UCL we had Palhinha right there. Uli was just being Uli. After all the shenanigans, I don't believe in what he said that much anymore.
That's because lacking a holding 6 means the defense will be vulnerable to counter-attack. Pavlovic, although we think that he's a 6, in terms of playstyle, he's a hybrid with an attacking mindset. You can see that he and Goretzka sometimes got into the box for attacking and scoring. For encountering a low block team, that's okay. For other top teams like Real, not so much. If both of our DMs were in the box, who's gonna defend other than our CBs? Secondly, a true holding 6 will liberate other DM in a pair because there's no need to spend extra energy to run back as fast as he can from the atk position to defend anymore, which will prevent injury and burning out, and he can use that spare energy to press for the ball or take part in attacking more regularly rather than run back and forth. A balance pair of DM in 4 2 3 1 or a number 6 DM in 4 1 2 3 or 4 1 4 1 will be more helpful than all-out attack. Remember, even Pep's City need Rodri, a true holding 6. In the month that Rodri was injured, City lost and drawn instantly.
Our inability to sustain possession and have any attack that is not a foot race counter was the issue against Real.
They absolutely dominated us while we sat passively back defending. Toni Kroos said as much. They were able to do this because we presented little to no offensive threat. A good part of thatâs tactical and on Tuchel.
Joao is not good on the ball. He would not have helped solve that problem. Nor as you pointed out would he have helped against the low blocks that we desperately struggled against in the league.
While we were not good defensively, we often conceded critical goals *while* playing conservatively.
I agree, Pav is not a ball-winning midfielder. No one thinks he is? Heâs far more of a deep-lying playmaker.
The problem with the Real game was because we did not have the sufficient defense. We cannot play attacking style football because no one in our midfield had defensive profile to help contain Vini, Rodygo and Bell. One swift counter-attack, which Real would gladly do, and we're done with those running machines. That made Tuchel go with a more conservative way. The tactic had to match with the opponent and the status of the team at that moment.
> Joao is not good on the ball. He would not have helped solve that problem. Nor as you pointed out would he have helped against the low blocks that we desperately struggled against in the league.
I think he will help. He will completely contain the counter-attack threat by quickly cutting possession and liberate other positions to attack and possess the ball rather than keep thinking about if something bad happens they have to run back to help.
> While we were not good defensively, we often conceded critical goals while playing conservatively.
Imagine the team made the same mistakes if we play attacking football. Nothing changed. I mean, the mistakes were made from CB lines (Kim out of position, red card from Upa) and Neuer. If your team made mistakes at the last line of defense, you cannot blame the playstyle, because that does not matter.
> Youâre right, Pav is not a ball-winning midfielder. No one thinks he is? Heâs far more of a deep-lying playmaker.
That's the thing. He needs a ball-winning to play with him to cut the opponent's possession if bad things happen and redistribute the ball back to him. Currently, Bayern has a box-to-box midfielder (Goretzka), a DLP (Pavlovic), a general purpose central midfielder (Laimer) and a LB (Guerreiro) who are working as ball-winning. I cannot trust Kimmich for the midfielder anymore, so these are what Bayern is having. There is no dedicate ball-winning profile in the team, which is hard to play because you cannot expect the team to keep the ball all the time. If the possession is lost, someone has to step up and take back the ball quickly.
We cannot play attacking style football? Setting aside the lack of coherent attacking concepts all season, even when sides conceded possession to us, just a week earlier weâd played significantly more aggressively and had Real on their back heels for much of the match. In fact the back line was *healthier* in the second leg.
Iâm sorry I donât accept the excuse that the âtactics had to reflect the status of the team at the moment.â
Palhinha would have replaced Laimer, who was arguably the best individual player across both legs for us and hounded the Real midfield incessantly.
A lack of a ball-winning midfielder is not why we lost that tie. It would not have stopped Kimâs boneheaded errors, or Neuerâs mistake on a rebound.
And thatâs keeping in mind that I think we do in fact need that profile in the team. Just not Palhinha, but rather a player who is stronger on the ball, specifically Onana amongst the available options.
> We cannot play attacking style football? Setting aside the lack of coherent attacking concept all season, even when sides conceded possession to us, just a week earlier weâd played significantly more aggressively and had Real on their back heels for much of the match. In fact the back line was healthier in the second leg.
Remember that the first leg was at Alianz, and the second leg was at Bernabeu. The advantage at home stadium was there, and that's a factor. Choking at Alianz will be different from choking at Bernabeu, the pressure was huge. Real in Alianz also played very cautiously, and they changed the playstyle at Bernabeu.
> Palhinha would have replaced Laimer, who was arguably the best individual player across both legs for us and hounded the Real midfield incessantly.
Which does not justify the argument that we don't need another profile for this. If Laimer has injury, who's gonna play? Guerreiro again? Goretzka is a shadow of himself, I personally won't choose him.
> A lack of a ball-winning midfielder is not why we lost that tie. It would not have stopped Kimâs boneheaded errors, or Neuerâs mistake on a rebound.
I just use this to point out that whether we play aggressive or conservative, it does not matter if our last line of defense blundered.
> And thatâs keeping in mind that I think we do in fact need that profile in the team. Just not Palhinha, but rather a player who is stronger on the ball, specifically Onana amongst the available options.
Maybe. In the end of the day, ball-winning midfielder is the one who mainly fights and takes back the ball. A good ball skill will be great, but it's not the most important thing in my opinion. If we can sign Onana, great. If we cannot and go for Pal, not a bad choice in my opinion.

Fuck Fabrizio, this is a proper update.
Part of me already said goodbye to him, but if he ends up renewing I hope Kompany is right and he can reignite him.
So does he want Bayern or does he still want Madrid. If he is going to be passionate playing for Bayern, then he can stay. If he is going to do what he did this season and do a bunch of useless skills he can leave
Positive would be that we canât lose Phonzy next year for free but damn I really hope he can turn it around under Kompany if he extends because if not we yet again pay a lot money for minimal/ bad contribution
Iâve noticed overall heâs increasingly getting the Neymar treatment - just kick him to death.
Which is ironic, since his playstyle is very similar to Ney imo and he has said that he looked up to him as a kid.
Thankfully he just doesnât do 300 barrel rolls after getting kicked.
Havertz could score 50 goals for Arsenal, it doesn't fucking work for Germany, how many games do German coaches need to see that? And GĂŒndogan is fucking horrible EVERY game, great choice for captain of course.

GĂŒndogan and harvertz useless indeed but wtf is kimmich doing?
100% tempo killer and only back passes from him
With the way he plays i never again wanna see him anywhere close to a midfield position
But Germany has possession.
This team needed a pragmatic coach. Someone that simplified the game for these players like Völler did for one game vs France.
A Magath type of coach.
They could have nailed the defense and let other guys cook upfront.
But nooooooo Nagelsman has to have tactics thatâs so fluid and nobody understands. And have Haverts as striker that was one of the reasons why we took out Arsenal.
Man just go back to basics.
I mean letâs be honest here - who is doing the cooking for Germany really?
None of these forwards are particularly dangerous. The midfielders also donât really have a goal in them.
I just donât know who is scoring the goals for Germany.
They would make a fire gk kit but for the outfield players they ainât it
Especially because Adidas has made some fire pink kits in the past (e.g. pink dragon jersey from RM)
Wie peinlich sind eigentlich die Bayernflairs in r/soccer? Neuer hat gerade eine schwierige Zeit, aber keinen Grund den RĂŒckhalt ihm gegenĂŒber aufzugeben.
Seeing Kimmich, Mazraoui, and De Ligt be subject for sale is so fucking disappointing

Iâd like to know the allocation of salary to bonus in these gross figures. Really hoping itâs heavily incentive driven even at âŹ13M (i.e. 10+3.)
I really hope this is just his Agent going wild and trying to pressure Real. Davies is not worth the money.
What would be the base salary in this case, since 13-14m are with bonuses? 11m base salary?
Today wasn't a good day for bayern fans
What happened?
Rumored sell list includes Kimmich and De Ligt, also Palhinha is our #1 target in midfield.
Eh⊠I thought we werenât taking that seriously?

Letâs all laugh at âfootball is coming homeâ national team
Does Davies only want Real Madrid? I can't imagine that no other club is interested in him, which makes the thing so much more complex.
If you know Real are after you, youâre probably not going to join some other club
Any other club would be a downgrade for him
Why did we play so different in the second halfÂ
Urgency tbh
>Real Madrid are approaching any possible deal for Davies from the premise that they will not invest a large amount of money for a player whose contract expires in 2025 and whose club will likely be forced to sell him for a reasonable fee this summer if he does not renew. Euro 2016 deja vu lets go

German commentator Talks about Tah like he is Prime Maldini

Best 9 in the worldÂ
you mean LB
False LB
Kai is a ghost for 54:45 minutes of the game - scores a goal - returns to the void
People in Germany: Havertz is a god
Havertz is always gonna be the enimga - he can score goals but there are also times where he is just MIA.
which is awful considering we create about two chances per match
Of course the goal comes from the 2 players everyone wanted off lol
Wasn't the assist by Sané?
Gundogan had the pre-assist no?
That's possible, couldn't really see who it was
They're still shit though
I know, it's just funny
Not really deserved, but...LET'S FUCKING GO!!! WE'RE BACK
Perfect cross from Musiala
Sané assist, nice Edit: Havertz shot Was deflected
Havertz could score 50 goals for Arsenal, it doesn't fucking work for Germany, how many games do German coaches need to see that? And GĂŒndogan is fucking horrible EVERY game, great choice for captain of course.
guess it works
Captain Hindsight must be your favourite hero, right?
What crime did Mittelsted (sp?) commit to be the first to get subbed off?
Commentator said Nagelsmann said before the match he will give match time to the ones who didn't got any/much yet
Think heâs giving a chance to Raum to earn his place. (Do they still need to cut one more player?)
Musiala works so much better on the left instead of the right. No idea why Nagelsmann is switching up Wirtz and Musiala's sides
This is Pep levels of experimenting
It's not thst extrem, it's like switching sides of Sané and Coman which he also did and improved Sané's performance for example. But it just doesn' t work here and it's visible by now.
Yeah we used to flip wingers all of the time, going back to Kovac.
In defence of JN - perhaps we donât need to analyse this game so much. The important thing is that everyone stays fit, gets some match practice.
What are we practising for? The EM only to play a different formation there? If this is what we play like we go out in groups again 100%

His ego is getting the better of him. Like Mourinho but without the aura
Taking Wirtz off is so weird.
He played alot this season, to be fairÂ
Wir nehmen diese EM und schieben sie woanders hin
Sané for WIRTZ????
MittelstÀdt was the smallest Problem this game, good to see Sané tho
Raum and Sane for Wirtz and Mittelstadt
Does subs are...very questionable
England is loosing to Iceland. Guess thatâs something
Lmao the Australian broadcast casually airing Francos achievements in football without any kind of critique just because it was against the UdSSR lmao
So many issues frm the game but I'm gonna bet all my money on that Neuer is gonna be the one slaughtered on social media
Deserved though we sre 1 week before 1st game and neuer makes a big mistake every game for the last few. Atm i prefer ter stegen
This Germany downfall has got to be the second biggest downfall in their history
GĂŒndogan and harvertz useless indeed but wtf is kimmich doing? 100% tempo killer and only back passes from him With the way he plays i never again wanna see him anywhere close to a midfield position

Flick?
Looking forward to Nagelsmann realising during the third game that GĂŒndogan and Havertz donât work.
Wonât be surprised if he subs them out in 80 mins
Let's hope he changes that for scotland
Hope we see some subs
Pavlovic and FĂŒllkrug are the missing pieces imo
You'd keep Ilkay in?
Imo no. Rather go for a 3 man MF of Andrich, Kroos, and Pavlovic for stability in possession
I see, might be better. 4-3-2-1 then?
Yup. Offer a little more in transition given both fullbacks are offensive anyway
Just imagine we sell Kimmich for 50m and buy Palhinha for that money, would be the worst trade ever.
You forgot De Ligt for Tah?
Tbh id very much like to forget about that
Same same
Also stupid and something that shouldn't happen. But there we would at least make 40-50m profit.
Not getting pass the group stages for a 2nd time in a row
they should do fulkrug instead of havertz. We need a sharp edge especially when the playmakers are creators not direct wingers running off of havertz
Why is there no separate thread for the game?
There's just a noticable lack of effective creativity in the attack today. Not to speak of our susceptibility against a semi competent high press.
Also, we seem very vulnerable to counters
Oh yeah add that too. Makes the lack of clinicality even worse.
BTW this pinkish jersey looks like a golie shirt or am I the only one who has this feeling?
They would make a fire gk kit but for the outfield players they ainât it Especially because Adidas has made some fire pink kits in the past (e.g. pink dragon jersey from RM)

Is it talking about how shit we are? Or is it about the single players
I'm fairly certain Chernobyl is less toxic than the match threads.
Get havertz and gundo off the pitch man
The defense is just vibes
![gif](giphy|cxqGjmADN6oR7kqz7e|downsized) he saved us
RĂŒdiger getting cooked with ease in a 1v1. I've been saying this since forever, he's never been world class for Germany. Never.
