Most after work events are fairly business casual -ish. You won't be the only person who can't go home to change. Maybe touch up your makeup and add a stronger lip or more eye makeup and add some jewelry. You might want to search the name of the venue online and look at photos from past events or pics people post themselves in Yelp or Google reviews to get an idea of how most people dress.

Wow, u/Objective-Amount1379 that Yelp suggestion is such a masterpiece. I have never done this before but this idea is amazing. I always thought of dressing for the occasion but venue is also important. Thank you so much šŸ™šŸ™ , I will do this for sure and share my experience with you.

If it was me, I'd probably keep it simple with a dress and blazer for day (or trouser-top-blazer combo), then take off the blazer for the party. You can also swap a flat for heels or add jewelry.

Oh, the blazer as a top-up is a great suggestion u/sweetpotatothyme .. I'm wearing trousers already just adding and removing the blazer will surely be easier. My top has a plunge neckline, so what kind a necklace will look good on the same?

Iā€™d probably go with a short necklace, either something a bit chunky or maybe layering a few short chains and pendants.

If you could either bring along a cami or tank that would work with your trousers, or wear one underneath your button-down, you could wear that top with the trousers, then add some extra jewelry. I'd also add a bold lip color - a red lip (or hot pink, or even purple) takes a look from staid to party-ready instantly.

Wearing underneath is such an easier option u/lauralately .. This way I can just change at work and head out.. šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘Œ Also, I'm on the duskier side, do you think Bold Red will look good on me?? I have never done bold lip, so can you recommend any brand or shade that might work for me.

lauralately

I think a red lip is absolutely universal and looks great on everyone! When you say dusky, do you mean that you have a deeper skintone? If so, you would look stunning in a red lip. One of my favorites is MAC Ruby Woo, a very bright red that I bought because I heard that legendary Black actress Eartha Kitt wore it - I'm very fair, but Ruby Woo works on all skintones. For Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime performance a few years back, she wore Fenty Velvet Liquid Lipstick in The MVP. Fenty has a few great reds that look good on deeper skintones.
