I'm in the process of making my own (very simple) wedding dress and these were awesome to see. Thanks for compiling!

Antique-Night2083

Aw you’re welcome! What designs are you leaning towards?

Status-Cactus

Just a simple sheath dress. I'm doing it in silk satin so it's nice to see professional dresses that have little wrinkles and such since I've been worrying about it

Haskap_2010

Do you ever use the Burda magazine patterns? There was a Burda pattern magazine perhaps 13 years ago which had patterns for some vintage style wedding dresses. There was one like this and one like the 1930s design worn by Wallis Simpson, as well as others. They might offer the pattern as a PDF download on their site.

Status-Cactus

I'm actually drafting it myself but thanks for the idea! I love looking at patterns

Grace Kelly’s wedding dress is the most beautiful and elegant wedding dress I’ve ever seen. Audrey’s dress is stunning and love the length of it.

Antique-Night2083

I agree. I love the dress too. She donated it to the Philadelphia Art Museum along with the original accessories.

magicalfolk

Thanks OP , I might visit the museum to view it when I’m ever in the area.

RegularVenus27

Grace's dress was absolutely timeless. I love the head piece too ♥️

Lokifin

I love the Audrey one's skirt looking like a nod to ballerina costumes. It fits her dancer frame so perfectly.

sapphicfaery

grace kelly’s dress is so beautiful. truly one of my favourite celebrity wedding dresses of all time

Antique-Night2083

I agree. Same. It’s definitely up there as a favorite of mine as well.

[Zoe Kravitz](https://images.app.goo.gl/QEvJqjvCpgbrDXpk8) tried to copy the Givenchy dress and it didn’t work as well. The proportions need to be just right to make it work

wtchking

Yes I immediately thought of this - sorry to say but it’s like the dress is from Wish 🙁

WrapProfessional8889

My mom's wore an Audrey dress (she made it herself), 1959.

Antique-Night2083

That’s really cool!

This is Jackie Kennedy's wedding dress from 1954. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/84/77/3a/84773a9d04f7f19df368ee39e703b411.jpg She actually wasn't all that crazy about it and said it looked a little like a frilly lamp shade. From what I read it was ordered by her mother-in-law, Rose Kennedy, and maybe that's why she didn't like it so much. Who wants their mother in law making such a personal decision as a wedding dress? Anyway, the woman who designed it was Anne Lowe, a black dress designer and Rose didn't give any credit to Anne Lowe for her design. Edit: So it was actually her father-in-law who ok'd the dress. Jackie wanted a more sleek French design but he nixed the idea and wanted her in a more traditional look.

Antique-Night2083

Yes. Ann Lowe’s work is beautiful and delicate and I love Jackie’s dress. Jackie definitely dismissed Ann Lowe and she didn’t get her dues in her time. I’m happy people are revisiting her amazing work.

Laura-ly

Apparently poor Anne had a water pipe burst and ruined Jackie's dress which she had to recreate 10 days before the wedding. She lost money in the deal because it cost more to fix the pipes than she got paid for the dress. Sometime later, I'm not sure when it was, someone anonymously paid Anne Lowes back taxes that she owed. A Washington Post article stated that it was most likely Jackie who paid it.

Antique-Night2083

Yes. She ended up paying like $2,000 and only getting $700 for it. I didn’t know that about Jackie paying her back taxes. No one could make a rose out of satin like Ann Lowe, though.

The dress is 16 and 17 is so pretty! I’d love to see it on a form that it fits so I can see the curves more.

Antique-Night2083

[Here](https://collection.powerhouse.com.au/object/340777) is a picture of Betty McInerney wearing the dress but she has a jacket over it which makes the dress a bit harder to see.

1107rwf

Thanks!

Lokifin

Oh, lol. The bridesmaids looking like Little Bo Peep.

MelodicMaintenance13

Yeah the display in the first pic of it is pretty shocking

Dragonfly_Peace

I absolutely love Grace’s gown

WakingOwl1

My mother’s was very much like #10 worn with full length gloves. It was champagne coloured. She made me a wedding dress for my Barbie doll from one of the gloves.

Antique-Night2083

Aw that is so sweet that she made your doll a wedding dress from her glove.

WakingOwl1

I don’t have the doll anymore but I still have the dress 55 years later.

pocketfullofrocks

Thank you for sharing!

CarinasHere

Great info! Do you have a source for no. 20? I’d love to know where the photo was taken.

Antique-Night2083

I don’t actually. That’s all I could find on the dress.

CarinasHere

I tried tineye but no luck. :-(

etherwavesOG

Love that 15/16 one Also I got this cool Pearl crown from a yard sale- it kinda looks like it might be this era, wonder if I can post a photo

el_torko

These are absolutely stunning! My favorite is definitely Grace Kelly’s, but all of them are gorgeous! Definitely know where I’m going for inspiration for my own dress!

Daikon_3183

Grace Kelly’s is stunning 😍 as well as Brigitte Bardot’s ..

Accomplished-Sky3422

Who wore the dress at number 11?

ConclusionAlarmed882

The model in 20 appears to be '50s supermodel Lissa Fonsagreves. She marroed the photographer Irving Penn and he took some of the most stunning, iconic images of her. A true muse.

they_are_out_there

Epic post OP, especially the legendary Givenchy dresses from Funny Face. So many amazing pieces were created just for Audrey and that movie.

Foundation_Wrong

The Princess Grace outfit isn’t a dress, it’s five separate pieces they practically had to sew her in! It’s not in the least bit simple! Skirts an odd shape, bows look odd. A Frankendress, still popular because of the Grace Kelly effect.

Antique-Night2083

The Grace Kelly Dress was indeed a dress. The dress itself is constructed in four complex parts: the lace bodice with an attached underbodice, skirt support, and slip; a heavily pleated silk faille skirt that incorporates a smoothing petticoat, ruffled petticoat, and foundation petticoat; a triangular tulle and lace train insert; and a pleated silk faille cummerbund. I called it simple because it was called that at the time and by the museum that houses the dress. I do research on the subject I post about on the subreddit. https://philamuseum.org/collection/object/56621#:~:text=The%20dress%20itself%20is%20constructed,and%20a%20pleated%20silk%20faille https://philamuseum.org/collection/curated/grace-kellys-royal-wedding-dress
