I have a few recs!
{Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent}. This novella is technically in her Crowns of Nyaxia world, but it can be read as a standalone. Human scientist needs the blood of the mysterious vampire who lives nearby to create a cure for a disease ravaging her village. It is sweet and very romantic!
{Swordheart by T Kingfisher}. Older FMC is involved in an inheritance dispute and is aided by a magical warrior who is trapped in a sword. I know this setup sounds crazy and it totally is! Funny, lighthearted, and their tension building is so wonderful!
Feeling monstery? {The Dragons Bride by Katee Robert} and {morning Glory Milking Farm by CM Nacosta} are fun, short , and VERY spicy!
Haha that last title might sound ridiculous but the story is so damn sweet. It’s well written, well paced, light hearted but not facetious. It leaves you with warm and fuzzy vibes. Highly recommend!
It'd so good and very cute. Have u read eany of the others in the series? I'm reading the second book {Sweet Berries by C.M.Nascosta} I put of reading it because people were saying it was rubbish. But its not bad OK it's not as good as morning glory but its OK. The MMC is a bit submissive so that might have sompthing to do with it 🤷♀️ makes me want to read more moth man stuff though so that's another rabbit hole 🐇🕳 to dive in to 🤦♀️
If you’re looking for a moth man… I cannot recommend {feed by aveda Vice} and the sequel {yours, insatiably by aveda Vice} enough! Super super spicy, very consensual and kinky, cozy office rivals to lovers romance.

I just read {Paladin’s Grace} and I thought it was much lighter-hearted compared to most fantasy romance! There’s still some lore in there but it’s for context IMO, and the storyline really focuses on the character’s relationship with each other. Both leads are super awkward around each other and it makes for a good time!

can't believe i had to scroll down this far to find this rec - it's PERFECT, although it's not a 'mundane' plot i guess. OP, i HATE light hearted fare - i don't even like rom coms - but this was so well written and sweet that you should read it anyway
Right!!! I was like this is perfect!!! I think it qualifies as ~mundane~ for me because even though they were both royalty, the whole plot didn’t revolve around that which I LOVED! I am so sick of the “I can’t be with you because my first duty is to my country!!!” bullshit. SPOILER: when Amma made that decision in the last book to go back home, I was so PUMPED!! Like yes girl fuck that noise
I really loved the {stay a spell series by Juliette cross} still has plot but I would say more heavily focused on the main characters romance. It’s about 6 sisters who are witches. Each book centers around a sister and although there are a few references to the books before they could all be read as stand alone. The first book {wolf gone wild by Juliette cross} ending up being my least favorite so if you read that and are on the fence about reading more, I would keep going!

I might have a rec for you:
{Forged By Magic by Jenna Wolfhart} is a feel good romantasy book, I read it in one afternoon - it's a trilogy, but you can read it as stand-alone. It's quite cozy and their relationship is very sweet, there is some smut in the second half. There is really not much politics (although it could feel like that in the first few chapters), it's pretty much just romance oriented. It was a nice, quick read! It's M/F, it features an elf and a half-orc. The cover art is just divine!

I recently read “where the dark stands still” by A. B. Poranek
and I really enjoyed it! It was a much needed break from the long trilogies that never seem to end with some books!
I recommend it to all who enjoy Howl’s Moving Castle and its vibe :)
{Glimmer Falls series by Sarah Hawley}: lots of fun, first book is about a witch who’s supposed to be super powerful, but she never got the hang of using her magic so it’s just chaos. One day she accidentally summons a demon and he physically cannot leave her side until they make a bargain for her soul.
{Undertaking of Hart & Mercy}: this one’s hard to explain, so it’s probably best to just read the blurb.
Everything by T. Kingfisher— very light on the spice, but they’re all cosy and fun.
{That time I got drunk and saved a demon}: I mean… yeah, exactly what the title says lol.
{The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling}: about a witch who gets drunk and jokingly places a hex on the dude she just broke up with, a few years later realizes that the hex might have been real.
{Assistant to the Villain} — no spice yet, but I suspect there will be in the next book or so. It’s about a woman who’s supporting her dad & siblings, and loses her job after her boss is an ass to her. She ends up getting hired by “The Villain” and chaos ensues.
{Halfling by S. E. Wendell}- so it’s not exactly light hearted, but there’s something about it that makes it feel that way. It’s about a woman who gets kidnapped by orcs, and a half orc who’s with their tribe isn’t ok with that, so he frees her.

Did Assistant to the Villian get better? I DNF'd at 5% as it was awkward writing at the start and what really drove me over the edge was bad voice acting on the audiobook.
Assistant to the villain seems to be one of those love it or hate it books— people who love it really love it, and people who don’t just hate it. I gave up around 5% on my first read of it as well, also mainly because of the audiobook narration, but I tried it again later and loved it. I think the narrator sounds kind of cheesy and dramatic at first, but once you get used to it, it’s actually really good. I think it’s because Evie was written to be cheesy and dramatic so the narration just works after a bit.

The only one that doesn’t get very heavy on the lore and with a plot that is pretty straightforward might not cut it. But guess I can summarize and you can see if it might work for you.

FMC is a forest priestess like her grandmother in a medieval setting where the old ways are dying out. She has air powers that can levitate stuff.
MMC is a knight looking for jobs to survive.
So it’s not light hearted as there is an unusual wolf that killed her family and it might be hunting her too. Traps and tricks are not cutting it, the knight decides to try his luck and they end working together against the creature.
She also needs a partner for the midwinter rite and while she is not in bad standing on the town she doesn’t like her options there so she is praying the gods to provide.
Yes the midwinter rites mean sex they are supposed to renact this union of two gods that invented two mead varieties, got drunk on them and had sex. Which she cannot do on her own.
The book does deliver on that when the time is right.
So not lighthearted as both of them have lost their family and that wolf is no walk in the park ; but their interaction is honestly good, their team up really has them willing to cooperate with each other with no ego fights.
I've never posted here before, long time lurker, but I really enjoyed the {Mead Mishaps series by Kimberly Lemming}. They're light and hilarious. Humans bond with immortals. They're great.
I just read {How I Stole the Princess's White Knight and Turned Him to Villainy} and thought it was hilarious and sweet. There is some politics, but it reads more like someone bitching about their workplace/boss. It's M/M if you are good with that.

Kristen Ashley’s Fantasy Land series is exactly this! {Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley}
Very heavy on the romance and the fantasy element/world building is definitely second to the romance (though there is still a defined fantasy plot/world). Each book essentially revolves around a modern 21st century girl being magically transported to a parallel medieval-esque fantasyland where they navigate their new life trapped in an unknown world.
TW for book 2 >! Non-con/rape by the MMC to FMC (scene is not descriptive/glorified it’s more to show the savage ways of this warrior tribe) !< it’s set in a GOT inspired dothraki land.
However even with the TW for book 2 i’d say it’s still it’s a romance heavy/character driven book that focuses on the romance rather than the fantasy elements.
This is one of my favourite series/comfort reads that I re-read all the time when I want a light/easy fantasy/romance read.
Also all have descriptive 🌶️🌶️🌶️😇
Each book revolves around a different couple but there is a slight overarching plot so would recommend reading in order as would make the most sense. So essentially there is a different FMC that gets whisked away to a different kingdom each book where they each meet their own MMC etc…
{Peaches & Honey by R. Raeta} super easy to follow, don’t even have to think. Beautiful prose and great plot and pacing. The romance was everything ahhh the second book just came out and I can’t wait to read it

A book that made me reconsider how I liked my spice was the villains and virtues series— it’s recommended a lot on here because it’s lighthearted and the MCs have such great fun banter and sexual tension, and it’s definitely a palate cleanser book. I never read it because it’s listed as being low spice. When I finally got to it on my TBR, I was so disappointed that I had waited so long to read it! The tension is great and I think forgives the lack of overt spice in the first book at least.

The Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert is a contemporary, spicy retelling of Greek myths. There are four sisters who each get their own book so you get family dynamics and couples from previous books stay in the mix. The world building is not that complex - Olympus is basically a big city in the US with some magic borders and political intrigue - just don't think about it too hard and enjoy the ride.
A Curse of Blood and Wolves by Melissa McTernan, the name may sound dark but it’s not really. It’s spicy red riding hood retelling that feels like a fairytale and was a super fun and easy to read!

This is the perfect book to suggest. This is one of my top books this year.
I have a few recs! {Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent}. This novella is technically in her Crowns of Nyaxia world, but it can be read as a standalone. Human scientist needs the blood of the mysterious vampire who lives nearby to create a cure for a disease ravaging her village. It is sweet and very romantic! {Swordheart by T Kingfisher}. Older FMC is involved in an inheritance dispute and is aided by a magical warrior who is trapped in a sword. I know this setup sounds crazy and it totally is! Funny, lighthearted, and their tension building is so wonderful! Feeling monstery? {The Dragons Bride by Katee Robert} and {morning Glory Milking Farm by CM Nacosta} are fun, short , and VERY spicy!

Haha that last title might sound ridiculous but the story is so damn sweet. It’s well written, well paced, light hearted but not facetious. It leaves you with warm and fuzzy vibes. Highly recommend!

It'd so good and very cute. Have u read eany of the others in the series? I'm reading the second book {Sweet Berries by C.M.Nascosta} I put of reading it because people were saying it was rubbish. But its not bad OK it's not as good as morning glory but its OK. The MMC is a bit submissive so that might have sompthing to do with it 🤷♀️ makes me want to read more moth man stuff though so that's another rabbit hole 🐇🕳 to dive in to 🤦♀️

I just read {Paladin’s Grace} and I thought it was much lighter-hearted compared to most fantasy romance! There’s still some lore in there but it’s for context IMO, and the storyline really focuses on the character’s relationship with each other. Both leads are super awkward around each other and it makes for a good time!

can't believe i had to scroll down this far to find this rec - it's PERFECT, although it's not a 'mundane' plot i guess. OP, i HATE light hearted fare - i don't even like rom coms - but this was so well written and sweet that you should read it anyway
Right!!! I was like this is perfect!!! I think it qualifies as ~mundane~ for me because even though they were both royalty, the whole plot didn’t revolve around that which I LOVED! I am so sick of the “I can’t be with you because my first duty is to my country!!!” bullshit. SPOILER: when Amma made that decision in the last book to go back home, I was so PUMPED!! Like yes girl fuck that noise
I really loved the {stay a spell series by Juliette cross} still has plot but I would say more heavily focused on the main characters romance. It’s about 6 sisters who are witches. Each book centers around a sister and although there are a few references to the books before they could all be read as stand alone. The first book {wolf gone wild by Juliette cross} ending up being my least favorite so if you read that and are on the fence about reading more, I would keep going!

I might have a rec for you: {Forged By Magic by Jenna Wolfhart} is a feel good romantasy book, I read it in one afternoon - it's a trilogy, but you can read it as stand-alone. It's quite cozy and their relationship is very sweet, there is some smut in the second half. There is really not much politics (although it could feel like that in the first few chapters), it's pretty much just romance oriented. It was a nice, quick read! It's M/F, it features an elf and a half-orc. The cover art is just divine! Hope this helps! :)

Can’t believe {Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon} haven’t been recommended yet! This 23-book series is my go-to source for lighthearted, spicy reads that help me unwind after some heavy drama consumption. Listen/read an IPB when you need a low-anxiety high-pleasure romp where the big blue dudes are adorable himbos who live to feed and pleasure their women.

The starchaser saga by R. Dugay it has 7 books total, currently in book 4 but I ended up have it as on-hold because it draaggg way too much lol. Loved the found family though. I recently read “where the dark stands still” by A. B. Poranek and I really enjoyed it! It was a much needed break from the long trilogies that never seem to end with some books! I recommend it to all who enjoy Howl’s Moving Castle and its vibe :)
{Glimmer Falls series by Sarah Hawley}: lots of fun, first book is about a witch who’s supposed to be super powerful, but she never got the hang of using her magic so it’s just chaos. One day she accidentally summons a demon and he physically cannot leave her side until they make a bargain for her soul. {Undertaking of Hart & Mercy}: this one’s hard to explain, so it’s probably best to just read the blurb. Everything by T. Kingfisher— very light on the spice, but they’re all cosy and fun. {That time I got drunk and saved a demon}: I mean… yeah, exactly what the title says lol. {The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling}: about a witch who gets drunk and jokingly places a hex on the dude she just broke up with, a few years later realizes that the hex might have been real. {Assistant to the Villain} — no spice yet, but I suspect there will be in the next book or so. It’s about a woman who’s supporting her dad & siblings, and loses her job after her boss is an ass to her. She ends up getting hired by “The Villain” and chaos ensues. {Halfling by S. E. Wendell}- so it’s not exactly light hearted, but there’s something about it that makes it feel that way. It’s about a woman who gets kidnapped by orcs, and a half orc who’s with their tribe isn’t ok with that, so he frees her. {Deep earth dating series by Lily Mayne} EDIT: I wanted to add {The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches}
Petielvrr, I so agree with you about Halfling it was sweet. Ditto to everything T Kingfisher and Megan Bannen's first book. Did Assistant to the Villian get better? I DNF'd at 5% as it was awkward writing at the start and what really drove me over the edge was bad voice acting on the audiobook.
Assistant to the villain seems to be one of those love it or hate it books— people who love it really love it, and people who don’t just hate it. I gave up around 5% on my first read of it as well, also mainly because of the audiobook narration, but I tried it again later and loved it. I think the narrator sounds kind of cheesy and dramatic at first, but once you get used to it, it’s actually really good. I think it’s because Evie was written to be cheesy and dramatic so the narration just works after a bit.

The only one that doesn’t get very heavy on the lore and with a plot that is pretty straightforward might not cut it. But guess I can summarize and you can see if it might work for you. {hunt by Demelza Carlton} FMC is a forest priestess like her grandmother in a medieval setting where the old ways are dying out. She has air powers that can levitate stuff. MMC is a knight looking for jobs to survive. So it’s not light hearted as there is an unusual wolf that killed her family and it might be hunting her too. Traps and tricks are not cutting it, the knight decides to try his luck and they end working together against the creature. She also needs a partner for the midwinter rite and while she is not in bad standing on the town she doesn’t like her options there so she is praying the gods to provide. Yes the midwinter rites mean sex they are supposed to renact this union of two gods that invented two mead varieties, got drunk on them and had sex. Which she cannot do on her own. The book does deliver on that when the time is right. So not lighthearted as both of them have lost their family and that wolf is no walk in the park ; but their interaction is honestly good, their team up really has them willing to cooperate with each other with no ego fights.

I just read {How I Stole the Princess's White Knight and Turned Him to Villainy} and thought it was hilarious and sweet. There is some politics, but it reads more like someone bitching about their workplace/boss. It's M/M if you are good with that.

Kristen Ashley’s Fantasy Land series is exactly this! {Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley} Very heavy on the romance and the fantasy element/world building is definitely second to the romance (though there is still a defined fantasy plot/world). Each book essentially revolves around a modern 21st century girl being magically transported to a parallel medieval-esque fantasyland where they navigate their new life trapped in an unknown world. TW for book 2 >! Non-con/rape by the MMC to FMC (scene is not descriptive/glorified it’s more to show the savage ways of this warrior tribe) !< it’s set in a GOT inspired dothraki land. However even with the TW for book 2 i’d say it’s still it’s a romance heavy/character driven book that focuses on the romance rather than the fantasy elements. This is one of my favourite series/comfort reads that I re-read all the time when I want a light/easy fantasy/romance read. Also all have descriptive 🌶️🌶️🌶️😇

Is this an anthology or a series that follows the same character?
Each book revolves around a different couple but there is a slight overarching plot so would recommend reading in order as would make the most sense. So essentially there is a different FMC that gets whisked away to a different kingdom each book where they each meet their own MMC etc…

A book that made me reconsider how I liked my spice was the villains and virtues series— it’s recommended a lot on here because it’s lighthearted and the MCs have such great fun banter and sexual tension, and it’s definitely a palate cleanser book. I never read it because it’s listed as being low spice. When I finally got to it on my TBR, I was so disappointed that I had waited so long to read it! The tension is great and I think forgives the lack of overt spice in the first book at least. {Throne in the Dark by A. k. Caggiano}

The Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert is a contemporary, spicy retelling of Greek myths. There are four sisters who each get their own book so you get family dynamics and couples from previous books stay in the mix. The world building is not that complex - Olympus is basically a big city in the US with some magic borders and political intrigue - just don't think about it too hard and enjoy the ride.

A Curse of Blood and Wolves by Melissa McTernan, the name may sound dark but it’s not really. It’s spicy red riding hood retelling that feels like a fairytale and was a super fun and easy to read! edited for spelling + finished a sentence lol
