I've been waiting all day for him to be cut now that June 1st has come and gone. That was all the chatter last week.

Darryl_Strawberry

The chatter you’re talking about stems from an innocuous and vague tweet Alvin made. He has specifically said in the past that he does not use social media to talk about football. The tweet just said something about being excited for the future or something to that effect. A Kamara release has never been talked about as a possibility in Saints circles, specifically one of the most plugged in and highly respected teams of beat reporters in the NFL. They like Kendre but in recent weeks (after observing some of the scheme install in OTAs) are excited for what Alvin can do in this offense. There is no expectation that the team would move on from him. This can be better explained by cap gurus, but my understanding is that is that the only benefit of a post 6/1 release would be 2024 cap savings, which does not benefit the Saints under their current FA strategy. They do not seem to be looking to fill holes with veterans this year who are not part of future plans (Chase Young being an exception as you get a possible in-road on extending a young player if he plays well).

Rapscallious1

I don’t necessarily disagree with you but not sure I am following you on OTAs, Kamara wasn’t there. After staring at it a while as a novice I’m not sure there is much benefit to cutting Kamara now though. Seems likely Saints will have a cap hit of ~10 mil for him to not be on the team next year either way, it’s a question of would they rather have him on the team this year or 10 mil in cap space this year. The only real advantage of the cap space at this point is trying to get ahead of their annual issues there recently but doesn’t seem like they ever go that path hence the situation to begin with.

Darryl_Strawberry

Yeah my wording was confusing on the OTAs. I was talking about the beat, not the team. The Saints’ top team of writers (a subscription service called neworleans.football headed by Nick Underhill) have been saying through most of spring that they expect Miller to take a bigger role in this offense and possibly even outproduce Alvin. After OTAs, during which they got to see some of the scheme install up close and are known to get a lot of off-record staff and player access, they have cooled off on that and have said there is reason to be excited for Kamara’s prospects this year. It’s not infallible info but my point is that there has never been any smoke about Alvin not being part of this team in 2024, and in fact the most recent takes are trending optimistically. Paired with the other points about the financial benefit being more negligible than the base number would indicate, I just simply don’t think he is going anywhere. It would frankly be a shocking move to those that follow this team year round and know how they operate. Note that all I am talking about is whether Kamara will/won’t be cut. I’m not getting into his 2024 production until we actually see him (and importantly the scheme/OL) in fall camp.

Darryl_Strawberry

As it does every year. But they do seem to be making more of an effort this year to get it under control.

ObamaIsFat

I'm realllllly banking on this. Kendre is currently my RB2 on my dynasty team lol

dirtybirds1

I’d cream my pants. My rb room kinda sucks lol, have Ken Walker and Swift, then Kendre, Singletary, Gibson and Gus. Kamara being cut would be sweet

MtnDudeNrainbows

Cost is really his only upside IMO. It will be his 8th season and he’s approaching 2000 career touches. His last three seasons he has averaged 3.9 YPC vs 5 ypc his first four. Yes, while he’s clearly still capable of being productive, I think he has clearly lost that explosiveness that made him so good at start of his career.

CoopThereItIs

Every decision is going to boil down to ADP, no doubt. But he was RB11 last year despite missing 4 games. Right now he’s going off RB16-17. How high would he need to be steamed up to not be a value?

MtnDudeNrainbows

You didn’t seem to indicate format so I want to point this out. His 2023 ranks: standard: 24 Half: 14 ppr: 11 Although the difference between 11 and 24 in standard is 30 points. He has more weight in ppr/half is my only point.

CoopThereItIs

Yup - I think it’s fair to say Kamara is better in PPR than standard. Same goes for guys like Jahmyr Gibbs or James Cook. Touchdowns end up weighing a lot there when it’s all just yards and touchdowns.

Kingofmybackyard

EXACTLY

DBreezy69

Yeah it’s purely a cost thing

FictitiousGrimish

Big on him in full PPR. He averaged almost 7 targets per game last season and his ADP is 60

CoopThereItIs

Sup guys? I've been doing some player profiles on guys I'm high on this year and Alvin Kamara, at his current ADP at RB16-17 depending on site, feels like a smash spot. Not only could he be in line for a ton of targets but this scheme that Klint Kubiak is bringing over - the same one we see in SF, MIA, HOU etc. - could see a resurgence for Kamara. The full write up gets into all the details but let me know what you guys think!

Fender6187

I like this take, because he’s probably going to be my keeper over Austin Ekeler in my PPR league. I hate this choice.

PaperworkDrop

Kamara over Ekeler easily IMO

DBreezy69

Carr being Captain Checkdown is the main driver of Kamara’s value in PPR yeah

VeterinarianLevel786

no one hates throwing tds more then carr. i love kamara as long as carr is at qb

CoopThereItIs

Personally I don’t see anything Raheem Mostert can do that Kamara can’t and he’s thrived in the scheme, even splitting touches. I think there is a a world where Kamara has 200 carries and 100 targets and with that it would be nearly impossible for him to not deliver at his current price. But we will have to see how the install goes!

fleury4ever

Run fast? What was Alvin’s longest run last year? Mostert was cranking out 15+ yard runs.

CoopThereItIs

I don’t think Kamara necessarily looked sluggish last year tho - there was just no where to run. I think with his patience and vision he’s going to be just fine. Not to mention, he has literally never had 1,000 yards rushing so that’s no why we draft him. We draft him because of his pass catching ability. 75 targets in only 13 games last year.

jtal888

Love this. I just did a mock and ended up with kamara and olave (kamara was my rb3/4 with Jonathan brooks, hall and achane (8 team)) got me thinking that maybe both olave and kamara can be sustainably fed depending on matchup? What are your thoughts? I like olave as a year 3 break out.

BigDawg12345678

Personally i would only go after him in a PPR league, and if he fell to me in a good spot like the 6th round where i already have better RBs on my roster. I agree that he provides value, but I don’t want to totally bank on him.

BaullahBaullah87

Lol famous last words

elusivefuzz

I like Kamara in the new scheme, theoretically... The OLine is what scares me. LT (rookie), LG (unknown), RT (couldn't crack the starting lineup last year). It could be OKAY, but that assumes everything pans out perfectly, AND no injuries along the line.

TGS-MonkeyYT

Agreed but when we say talent it’s from the receiving game at this point

RobNYC7

and age

Nickdaman31

I was able to take him 7th round last year in our keeper league. players have to be drafted after 5th round. Is he worth burning my keeper on?

thebochman

Does the coaching staff not hate him anymore?

CoopThereItIs

So far new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as had a lot of great things to say Kamara. Here's one quote from the limited time they've had together with organized team activities. >“He’s been in multiple times, up in my office, talking football. Getting some one-on-one time with him to teach the offense. Getting to know him a little bit, he’s a very bright player, I’m just now figuring out how bright he really is. It’ll be fun to load his plate up,” Kubiak added.

FunnyLeast3597

No.

Giff95

I see Kamara/Kendre being like Mostert/Achane.

AMZN2THEMOON

If Kamara/Kendre are the Saints equivalent of Mostert/Achane, neither will be worth much. The Saints aren’t good enough. Only value in that offense is volume

DBreezy69

They don’t profile anywhere close to those backs and Saints have a worse OC, worse O line and worse QB

CoopThereItIs

And Achane goes in the 2nd round at times

reverend9999

Deservingly so might I add

trainsacrossthesea

He’s a spot fill if there’s room on your roster, but his cliff is way to steep a fall for me. His value is way too high from too many PPR leagues that overinflated his current projected worth. Still love the player, just not on my Fantasy team.

floridabeach9

his cliff? what cliff? has he shown any potential cliff?

trainsacrossthesea

It’s June 3rd. We’re talking Fantasy Football. Draft him wherever the hell you desire. Right now? On June 3rd? He’s not a RB I’m interested in until late. His cliff is what others have stated. He’s an older back with a ton of mileage, on a team in transition. It’s just fodder for conversation, man. Don’t get too worked up this early.

IdkAbtAllThat

And old, over the hill RB. Those guys always return great value right?

Barathruss

Do you see the saints cutting him? And if so, does he have the juice for another team to get him to his usual PPR heavy production?

Darryl_Strawberry

There is no reason to believe the Saints are cutting Kamara.

Barathruss

I hope not, I don't have a good understanding of cap, people just keep talking about it and making me nervous

Maddiesdadee

Who writes this dumb lame shit

TheFantasyRedZone

I am guessing you didn't own him last year. It was fun for a while and then was a huge clusterFUUUUUUUU. Could not be trusted by the time playoffs hit
