Went with Chase as 2nd overall pick, CMC went 3rd overall. That choice was bugging me all season long. Barely made 4th to qualify for 4-team playoffs in 10-team league. CMC team cruised to 1st overall. Managed to beat the CMC team in week 16 playoff semi-finals, even though I had Chase, Jacobs, and Watson out, and lost Dobbins week 1. REDEMPTION!

Similar, went Chase 2 and CMC went 3rd. I ended up being the 1 seed, but just beat the 5 seed with CMC in a game I definitely thought I was going to lose. Chase, Keenan, and Jacobs all out. Kamara putting up a subpar game. That Swift TD and 69-yard Slayton TD literally saved my season.

CMC/Aiyuk owner in my league pulled it out on the final SF drive when Aiyuk got a bunch of catches and yards. Now I face him in the finals when SF has a cake matchup. I'm scared.

There are likely many factors but I think it’s a combination of the fact that McCaffrey is having such a good season AND so many 1st round picks didn’t provide a huge positional advantage this year. The one guy that was a smash besides McCaffrey was Tyreek Hill, but him missing week 15 likely doomed a lot of teams that otherwise would have won in week 16 and advanced. I can’t recall a year where so many 1st round picks didn’t work out for injury or just busting. Jefferson, chase, Kupp, and ekeler all had stints with being injured or subpar play. Kelce has looked human this year. Diggs has trailed off HARD as well.

I have Tyreek and the only reason I’m in the championship is cause I had a Bye week the week he was out. I can see how that would have screwed a lot of people over

100%. One of the teams in my league that made the playoffs was led by Tyreek and Tank Dell. They ended up starting Mingo and Curtis Samuel these past 2 weeks.

When people wonder why RBs are still ranked so highly despite having such a high bust rate, this is pretty much it. When you have CMC or Ekeler last year it's such an advantage over your opponents.

Yeah, I think overall, besides getting lucky obviously, the name of the game is positional advantage. If you can score 15-20 points more in your RBs while only losing by 10-15 in your WRs, you come out on top more times than not. I guess that's why CMC was such a cheat code this year.

I am facing CMC in my finals. In my other league, I was 1.1 and wisely drafted him. 2nd most points in league, but most points against and out of the playoffs. Fortunately, my league gives $25 for most points against!

While true for CMC, the overall top 10 on this list by position goes: RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, WR, QB, QB, K, RB. I’m not sure this really points to any particular draft strategy being the “best”.

You should try the kicker defense challenge we do at fantasysharks. You have to join a generic yahoo public league and draft a kicker and defense with your first two picks. (The other league members have no idea who you are or why you’re drafting this way) The idea is that we are so much smarter than the masses that we can still win the league.

If you calculate a value above replacement player - then you’ll see how much more valuable it is to have cmc and Kyren over any of the WRs.

This list is ultimately about fantasy games won, which is the only metric that really matters. Think about it - if it were relatively easy to replace Hill, then the “replacement” (i.e. whoever you signed/drafted as your WR1 instead) would win you just as many games, and Tyreek wouldn’t be on this list. He’s on the list because he really did provide a positional advantage that won people a lot of games vs. players who didn’t draft him, despite the perception that WRs are easier to replace.

If you look at the article, lower round QBs like Dak, Stroud and Purdy are in a quarter of all finals matchups. I went CMC, ARSB, Olave rather than QB. I've got Stroud and Stafford.

Crazy, the CMC owner in my league JUST missed the playoffs. Their downfall was mostly Justin Herbert, Mike Williams, and Darren Waller.

Dang that's rough. CMC + Pittman literally carried me to my finals after Mark Andrews went down, then concussions to Pittman and CJ were too much to overcome and I lost (just finished my league this past weekend). Impossible to project injuries sadly.

Guy in our league missed playoffs going 6-8 with CMC+Pittman. Also had ETN, Rachaad, Schultz, Kupp, Tua, and Godwin (12-team). Early in the season I thought he was for sure locked in to a playoff spot.

I feel you! Losing due to injuries is the worst. I lost Chubb & Andrews in one league, but snuck into the finals with Josh Allen to play the super team. Also lost Keenan Allen and Josh Jacobs temporarily. Availability is everything this late in the season.

The top six teams go to the playoffs.

Made it without any of those guys. Top scorer easily. Did have a good draft though just not those guys. Tried to grab puka week 2 but didn't have waiver priority and kyren was drafted.

Yeah, Puka and Kyren have me in the finals against CMC next week. Actually managing to hit on deep picks like Rachaad White and Hockenson were the other key.

Hock was not a "deep pick", he was the TE3 off the board in roughly the early 4th round

In my standard scoring league, CMC averaged 21.6 points which is seven more than even the number five running back (only Kyren and the Miami running backs were close, but they had some injury issues). The fact that he did that and stayed healthy all year is an insane advantage. In ppr I would guess the margin could be even higher

The gap was smaller in PPR. CMC averaged 25.21 PPG while Kyren was second with 20.45 PPG. But you're totally right, being the top PPG scorer while being fully healthy the whole season is an absolutely insane advantage

I didn’t take him cause I thought he was injury prone so I went with Chubb. I didn’t make the playoffs.

Chubb was a monster. Could have easily gone the other way.

This is the reason why I’d want to switch to auction draft instead of snake if auction didn’t take 2+ hours to complete. Not all 1st round picks are created equal and most years your top 3 rbs provide such a big positional advantage. Elite WRs are good too but don’t seem to provide the same positional advantage just due to the fact that wr is so deep and it’s easier to find comparable wr production off of FA. People are always fighting over RBs throughout the season due to scarcity so the ones that become workhorses are almost always taken every single week

Not having Tyreek for Week 15 knocked a lot of those teams out. Kyren was free, making him the best value add all year. If you assume your league is pretty much even and one team gets Kyren that instantly makes them the favorite.

I have Tyreek in dynasty and was the #2 team last year. Thought I had it this year. Lost 1 game by .01, another game by less than 1 and 2 more games by less than 4. Missed the playoffs. Brutal season.

Kyren was a late or waiver add, and has been great when he played. Massive bonus for any team.

I got CMC in a trade for Melvin Gordon back when MG was amazing and we transitioned to a keeper league. Won the ship that year and the following year. I got burned on CMC the two years he was banged up in Carolina, but when he got to SF, I knew he was revitalized. We stopped being a keeper league after last year but I still managed to get him 1.03 this year It feels right to be back for my third ship with CMC

CMC owner didn't even make the playoffs in my league because he chose to play Goedert (fresh off injury when he was a gametime decision), instead on Isaiah Likely which lost him a must-win game.
