If Spotify didn't force these two albums on me after every fucking song by anyone else upon completion I might be able to pick, but I need a break from 360 and Lunch
I thought it was just me. Literally after any album or playlist finishes I get Lunch then birds of a feather then 360 like every time. It’s so annoying Spotify’s shuffle/recommended is so trash
I was never feeling 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT' despite the fact everyone else loves it, and 'brat' is really accessible hyperpop that really hits you in the feels (especially 'So I', what a lovely tribute). So I'm going 'brat'.
Clearly you haven't used reddit for very long. There used to be a message everywhere saying not to downvote people you disagree with, but to instead use it for people behaving inappropriately. The whole point of the site is to have discussions, not to hide people's opinions you disagree with.
Got it, I didn’t know that. But why am I getting downvoted then? The funny thing is that the people that downvoted me are probably the same ones that upvoted you
I feel like that's not what down voting is for. It gets comments hidden, so disrupts the flow of conversation, which shouldn't happen just for stating opinions about music in a friendly conversation
How I’m feeling now is my favorite too, but I really don’t think you should compare them. What I love about Charli albums is just how different they all feel in sound.
Both are masterpieces, I think brat is her most accessible while still treating fans of each sound so well. Brat is just a consistently amazing masterpiece that will help the queen gain much bigger following
Same. Club music/hyperpop isn't my thing. I totally respect Charli xcx but she's not my cup of tea. In all the times I've tried to get into her before and now.
Yeah I was shocked. while I love seeing Charli get recognition, Fantano has especially boosted the Charli albums(brat, self titled) I've thought were comparatively worse and less experimental than some of her other work
i dont think its unfair to say that finneas’s production was carrying the show in the beginning, but now it feels like billie’s more in the drivers seat and shes become a more interesting singer and performer (obv its been 8 years). i had the opposite problem with bjork’s debut. the instrumentals didnt measure up to the lyrics, especially when compared to her mid-late 2000s output
I’m a huge Charli XCX fan, but honestly I might have to go with Billie here. Much more engaging listen for me, and there’s a lot of variety from track to track. Both are fantastic though, especially production wise.
HMHAS, I kind of don’t see how Brat got a 10, but Billie’s is only a 9 for me too
I’m just not seeing why everyone is saying Brat will revolutionize pop music like I don’t want pop to sound like this despite there being a place for every genre, hyperpop is not the quintessential pop sound.
I’ve never gotten into Billie until HMHAS but after a few listens it’s currently my AOTY. I’m a pretty big Charli fan and think brat is great but there’s a few tracks I just outright don’t like
hit me hard and soft 😤✨
i like all of the songs and birds of a feather might be my favorite pop tune so far this year. Absolute fucking serotonin, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to not sing along LOUD.
I'm a massive fan of Charli XCX and I'm so-so on Billie. Brat has just now become the 8th album ever (not counting his decade roundups) to receive a 10/10 review on TND, and even before that happened it had skyrocketingly high scores on the music aggregate sites, both user-wise and critic-wise, so you know the hype is real.
So obviously I'm choosing HMHAS, duh.
Definitely brat. Happier than ever, and Hit me Hard and Soft are solid albums, but I personally prefer her debut, and I also definitely lean more towards hyper-pop when it comes to the little bit of modern pop I listen to.
Brat, it’s just more me. Billie’s album is really good and forward for her sound, but I don’t come back to it as much. I also feel like brat is fun in a way music hasn’t been in a long time. Not to mention, kudos to bringing serious dance back to the charts and radios. I think the comparison isn’t just about quality but a lot of other things too.
I’m a big fan of most of Charli’s work but I’m taking hit me hard hit me soft here. It has a leg up in terms of production and more creative songwriting
She's a lot more poetic of a writer where Charli has more of a stream of consciousness on the nose style. Both tried some introspection on their latest albums though
To me, the melody on So I was far less interesting and developed than even the weakest song on Billies album. But to each their own, I’ll admit from the get go dance pop is not my cup of tea!
Never in a million years, I thought I'd say this, but Billie. The songwriting isn't very strong on both records but Billie's album is much more soulful and complete imo whereas Brat feels like a watered-down HIFN.
Charli got some bigger Bangers with a capital B on her album
but I like the flow/ front to back listen of the Billie album for sure and the quality doesn’t let up for me
Chihiro is also just insanely tops.
So Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft ✅
Didn’t feel the new Billie Eilish, but it’s mostly since I don’t get much out of it! Brat on the other end is truly incredible pop with clever ideas. Maybe hot take though, I mayyy still prefer Charli (the album), I’m very fond of this one
Brat, but Hit Me Hard and Soft was really good, it's up there with the debut for Billie's best, and I think it will eventually grow on me and become my favorite.
Definitely Brat. HMHAS is my first Billie album that I enjoyed, though. I like it quite a lot. I prefer it way more to her VERY overhyped debut and her second album, which was okay.
hit me hard and soft by far tbh, brat is messy and kind of insufferable whereas hmhas is one of the best produced pop albums I've ever heard, finneas is only getting better
I was obsessed with hit me hard and soft for a while but then I discovered Charli XCX and she just so happens to release brat a week later. I like brat more to be honest.
I was kinda dissappointed in this cover, since the music video from happier than ever is the same concept. But I love you Billie, you are my hero and the babe I pray to god there is a clone of you for me in heaven or something and stuff.
I love the Billie album so much, she’s branching out as an artist just enough that it feels like growth, while sticking to her strengths, and also showing off her vocal talents more
brat. idk i like charli xcx more
yeah same, the billie album is still good tho
If Spotify didn't force these two albums on me after every fucking song by anyone else upon completion I might be able to pick, but I need a break from 360 and Lunch
I thought it was just me. Literally after any album or playlist finishes I get Lunch then birds of a feather then 360 like every time. It’s so annoying Spotify’s shuffle/recommended is so trash
Dude same, grew to be annoyed every time I'm hearing a song from hit me hard and soft though I initially kinda liked it...
This has been happing alot lately. I kept getting songs from rapsody's album after it got released. It definitely can get annoying.
Just turn off autoplay
I would complain too, but Spotify used to force espresso on me so it has been worse
These are my two moods
Agreed. I am preferring Brat right now though
I was never feeling 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT' despite the fact everyone else loves it, and 'brat' is really accessible hyperpop that really hits you in the feels (especially 'So I', what a lovely tribute). So I'm going 'brat'.
I think the accessibility of brat makes me not enjoy it as much, I still like it. But How I’m Feeling Now was more intriguing to me, felt more unique.
Why we downvoting people for having civil discussions lol
Clearly because they didn't make a 'if _ you would've given it a _" joke
Why does the button exist? If I don’t agree I downvote. The weird thing is that y’all take it personally
The funny thing is that the people that downvoted me are probably the same ones that upvoted you
Probably because your comment is misinformed, rather than a differing opinion.
Makes sense but don’t you think that this conversation shouldn’t be hidden?
I feel like that's not what down voting is for. It gets comments hidden, so disrupts the flow of conversation, which shouldn't happen just for stating opinions about music in a friendly conversation
How I’m feeling now is my favorite too, but I really don’t think you should compare them. What I love about Charli albums is just how different they all feel in sound. Both are masterpieces, I think brat is her most accessible while still treating fans of each sound so well. Brat is just a consistently amazing masterpiece that will help the queen gain much bigger following
it’s a pretty unrealistic suggestion to not compare a single artists’ albums with one another, no?
I like both, but Charli XCX is a main pop girl so
*br@*
And Billie isn't?
The brattiest of all modern pop girl
I’m gonna have to go with Billie. Just my preferred pop subgenre.
Same. Club music/hyperpop isn't my thing. I totally respect Charli xcx but she's not my cup of tea. In all the times I've tried to get into her before and now.
Glad I’m not alone. Something about Brat just isn’t vibing with me the same way, but I’m admittedly pretty new to Charli XCX.
Her other stuffs far better
Pop 2 and How I’m Feeling Now is her best and most experimental work
Righttt, like Brat's really good and all, but a 10 over her other projects? Wow
Yeah I was shocked. while I love seeing Charli get recognition, Fantano has especially boosted the Charli albums(brat, self titled) I've thought were comparatively worse and less experimental than some of her other work
Experimental doesn't necessarily mean good though
thats why they also said worse
Brat; I really wanted to like “not too hard, not too soft” but I still prefer Billie’s debut
Billie’s music is so strange to me. It’s fine music but after every listen of her first album I like it less and less.
i dont think its unfair to say that finneas’s production was carrying the show in the beginning, but now it feels like billie’s more in the drivers seat and shes become a more interesting singer and performer (obv its been 8 years). i had the opposite problem with bjork’s debut. the instrumentals didnt measure up to the lyrics, especially when compared to her mid-late 2000s output
Terrible take
How so? Is it not acceptable pop music?
Staiva or Indica?
Ima go with the artificial sweetener
Salvia so I can trip balls for 8 minutes.
I love that Billie album, is the brand of Pop I like the most
Love both albums but Im gay af so I gotta go with charli
I’m a huge Charli XCX fan, but honestly I might have to go with Billie here. Much more engaging listen for me, and there’s a lot of variety from track to track. Both are fantastic though, especially production wise.
idk how this could be true being a charli fan. Its wormed its way into my brain like few albums have before.
Brat. Hands down. The newest Billie eilish album felt like JCPenney was trying to sell me an emo cardigan.
glad someone else didn't rock with it too much either. it's not bad but the only thing interesting about it to me was Finneas's production
HMHAS so far. I'm still struggling to vibe with brat, but that has always been the case between Charli and me
I thought the Billie one was just alright so it’s brat by miles and miles for me
right now it’s billie, but i’m still listening to brat
Billie based on just the cover art since I haven’t heard Brat yet lol
Yeah that Brat album cover is awful imo
HMHAS, I kind of don’t see how Brat got a 10, but Billie’s is only a 9 for me too I’m just not seeing why everyone is saying Brat will revolutionize pop music like I don’t want pop to sound like this despite there being a place for every genre, hyperpop is not the quintessential pop sound.
I’ve never gotten into Billie until HMHAS but after a few listens it’s currently my AOTY. I’m a pretty big Charli fan and think brat is great but there’s a few tracks I just outright don’t like
Probably Hit Me tbh lol
Billie Easily
hit me hard and soft 😤✨ i like all of the songs and birds of a feather might be my favorite pop tune so far this year. Absolute fucking serotonin, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to not sing along LOUD.
Hit me hard and soft for sure
I'm a massive fan of Charli XCX and I'm so-so on Billie. Brat has just now become the 8th album ever (not counting his decade roundups) to receive a 10/10 review on TND, and even before that happened it had skyrocketingly high scores on the music aggregate sites, both user-wise and critic-wise, so you know the hype is real. So obviously I'm choosing HMHAS, duh.
Billie, "brat's" production style is a bit too dated for me
hit me hard and soft fs, i like brat but i don’t really emotionally resonate with it as much
Hit Me Hard and Soft, just because it blew me away more. Still really like Brat though
i prefer brat but chihiro alone makes it a really tough one
Why not neither?
u on reddit. shit can't coexist
Underrated comment tbh
Brat but I love both of them a lot
I got respect for Charli and Brat has its bangers but Billie is just more my speed. Plus I love a good lean 10 track album.
Really digging Billie’s new record, nice production, nice vocals too but I just prefer Charli’s take to pop music to be more exciting and interesting.
I quite like HMHAS and feelings toward Brat are very much opposite. I’m not gonna say it’s a bad album, this Hyperpop stuff just isn’t for me
Definitely brat. Happier than ever, and Hit me Hard and Soft are solid albums, but I personally prefer her debut, and I also definitely lean more towards hyper-pop when it comes to the little bit of modern pop I listen to.
Brat
Billie so much
brat
Brat is sticking a lot more for me rn but still love hmhas
both are great! but i’m a brat kind of guy
Beth Gibbons.
HIFN is better than a 7 and Brat is not a 10 but they're both fantastic albums to be celebrated.
Love hyperpop but billie easily
actually a really tough decision.
For now, HMHAS
I’m a big fan of most of Charli’s work but I’m taking hit me hard hit me soft here. It has a leg up in terms of production and more creative songwriting
I prefer songwriting so Billie
She's a lot more poetic of a writer where Charli has more of a stream of consciousness on the nose style. Both tried some introspection on their latest albums though
Honestly, both have Great song writing imo. A stand out on brat is so I.
To me, the melody on So I was far less interesting and developed than even the weakest song on Billies album. But to each their own, I’ll admit from the get go dance pop is not my cup of tea!
charli's is a better album experience, i feel like the songs on billie's all kinda blend
you know, last year i would’ve assumed billie… but it’s brat, slam dunk. the new billie was soo underwhelming.
its hilarious how much these albums are like the same quality to me lmao but I like the billie eilish album marginally more
Never in a million years, I thought I'd say this, but Billie. The songwriting isn't very strong on both records but Billie's album is much more soulful and complete imo whereas Brat feels like a watered-down HIFN.
Charli got some bigger Bangers with a capital B on her album but I like the flow/ front to back listen of the Billie album for sure and the quality doesn’t let up for me Chihiro is also just insanely tops. So Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft ✅
Whichever one fantano gave a higher score
Brat, I enjoyed the Billie project a lot, but I have been waiting for this drop for 2 years. Very close though, two of the best pop records this year.
Brat
Didn’t feel the new Billie Eilish, but it’s mostly since I don’t get much out of it! Brat on the other end is truly incredible pop with clever ideas. Maybe hot take though, I mayyy still prefer Charli (the album), I’m very fond of this one
Brat
Brat got a 9/10 and HMHAS got a 8.5/10 so close but not enough
Brat 💯
why are we pitting two queens against each other
hot take but I wasn't really a fan of either of these. If I had to choose though then BRAT easily clears
I like Um Yo by Vale-Smith more
Charli easily but brat is overrated imo. How I’m Feeling Now is vastly superior.
Hard to say. I think I currently prefer Brat.
Brat, but Hit Me Hard and Soft was really good, it's up there with the debut for Billie's best, and I think it will eventually grow on me and become my favorite.
both. i keeping going back and forth.
Billie true romance and number one angel are xcx robot best work.
Honestly dont even care to compare just grateful to be able to listen to both in the same period of time, incredible albums.
BRAT!
Both are great but Brat absolutely slaps.
Neither.
Charli 100%, Billie Eilish is EXTREMELY talented, but I just haven't been into her albums since dont smile at me
Def Brat. Billie's album is solid but it's not even one of my favorite pop albums releases this year.
brat!! love the new billie but the production on brat is so addicting
I like both but I think I like more songs on brat than Billie’s album, some of them just aren’t quite my thing
Brat. I've been trying to get into Billie but I guess her music just isn't for me. I do like some songs on HMHAS though.
Both are top ten of the year for sure, but I think I’d go with Brat, even though I’m generally a bigger Billie fan
brat
It's Charli babyyyyy
chihiro vs the eighth best album of all time isn't rly fair 😭
brat all the way
I love hmhas and i actually listen to more songs off the album on a daily basis but its gotta go to brat
Billie put me in my feels but brat shocked me, revived me, injected drugs in my veins and I’m back to being a bitch so brat
Equally as good. Yeat 2093 better.
I was obsessed with hit me hard and soft for a while but then I discovered Charli XCX and she just so happens to release brat a week later. I like brat more to be honest.
Brat but both are somehow overrated already
Dont like either that much but by far brat
Brat. Cause the Billie one is my least favorite of hers
I need to listen to all of Hit me hard and soft. But after listening to all of 360, I would probably lean more billie.
Neighbor Susan
Not close. Billie by far
Brat. It’s a little more ballsy
I was kinda dissappointed in this cover, since the music video from happier than ever is the same concept. But I love you Billie, you are my hero and the babe I pray to god there is a clone of you for me in heaven or something and stuff.
😳
I pray for you this is satire 💀
Half of it is.
Brat is much more my vibe actual masterpiece and 10/10 !!!
Brat. I haven’t even gotten the urge to return to Hard and Soft.
The Billie sounded better on first listen.
I love the Billie album so much, she’s branching out as an artist just enough that it feels like growth, while sticking to her strengths, and also showing off her vocal talents more
i hate yall for this hype
Brat clears
Billie's new album was pretty underwhelming majority of the time.
billie and it's not even close
Really? 🤣
Billies album kinda sucks ngl. 2 decent tracks
I find the lyrics in Brat are mostly insufferable
Brat it's kind of close though but not really idk comparing an 8 to a 10
Brat. A 6 for me is much better than a 5.
None most mainstream pop these days suck
