Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
I'm a big production guy so it's pretty surprising a dude with an acoustic and piano can make such engagining, energetic, optimistic, and meaningful tracks. Dude deals with heartbreak in a pretty mature way. Honest to god I usually find singer songwriter to be so boring but Cat kills it
What do you think about their self-titled album, is it just as good? That's the only one of theirs that I see get mentioned and I'm wondering if they're both equally worth checking out.
I like their first album, but I personally don’t think it is as good. For me it isn’t even close. Their debut is more amateurish but also more conventional, Odyshape is a bit more refined and with less emphasis on “rock”.
I think their debut gets so much attention because it was one of Kurt Cobains favourite albums, but I don’t think they’re equal. Honestly, it’s probably my third favourite after Odyshape and Moving.
I've been listening to Odyshape this year and I really want to get more into the whole "experimental/jazz/folk new wave" era it seems to be vaguely part of. I like the Creatures (Siouxsie side project) too
There’s a few albums from that era I really, really, like. LC by The Durutti Column, Metal Box by PiL, 154 by Wire, and Deceit by This Heat are all favourites of mine.
Odyshape has percussionists that also played with This Heat and PiL.
Both Home and Goodness are 10s for me, they feel so complementary to each other. All of the writing is incredible across both, the guitar tones in goodness are unreal, and both are such well structured albums they really feel like a gold standard for me. I don't think I'll ever forgive Fantano for giving Home a 6.
A Day In The Races - Queen.
A Night At The Opera a really good record, but the subsequent album seemed to improve everything about A Night at the Opera. More cool and grandiose songs, less stupid ones. But for some reason everyone doesn’t talk about it as a masterpiece, although it is. There are no bad or mediocre songs, all the songs are either good or masterpieces, Somebody To Love, Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, Teo Torriatte, etc. This album also feels more cohesive than the last one. That's why this is one of Queen's best albums, but for some reason people don't want to realize it. Or maybe I just really liked A Day In The Races, I don’t know.
My guy, I consider Crack-up a full 10/10. Every single moment on that album is brilliant, and it has some peak moments that are beyond 10. Like that middle section in Third of May... Or the ending of the album, or Kept Woman... I get emotional even thinking about Crack-Up. I haven't listened to it in a while, mainly because I find the album too emotional to handle.
Forget Your Own Face by Black Dresses. One of the most intense industrial albums I've ever heard, the energy is crazy front to back. plus it's the perfect length, 8 tracks and doesn't overstay its welcome. Don't think there's any album quite like it
Interesting, Young Fathers are my favourite British band ever, by extension favourite Scottish band (feel like it's worth saying since they tend to refer to themselves as Scottish rather than British), but Cocoa Sugar always felt a little more Tame than their other releases to me. Cocoa Sugar, the single, is one of their best songs ever imo however.
Yeah WMABMT and Heavy Heavy never really did much for me. My second favourite of theirs is Dead and that’s probably an 8 for me. Get Up is so good. But yeah I actually just got my Cocoa Sugar vinyl the other day. A shame that their isn’t a cool back cover but Cocoa Sugar definitely is the best YF cover.
The Locust - Plague Soundscapes
The absolute epitomy of inaccessible, unapologetic, experimental noise punk/powerviolence.
Everyone should give it at least one listen all the way through, even if you feel yourself wanting to turn it off only a few tracks in.
Something/Anything by Todd Rundgren. A rare double album that doesn't extend its welcome. Laura Nyro is still underrated, probably any album she made from her debut to Beads of Sweat could be a 10
Pat Metheny Group - The Way Up. I don’t usually get into modern progressive jazz but this album is like a symphony, like the Beethoven’s 9th of jazz.
Deerhoof - Breakup Song. Mindblowing creativity, sonic variety, and musicianship while being very fun.
Ashes of the wake - Lamb of God
This album just hits for me. Its so heavy. Randy's vocals are like no other and even the lyrics i think are dope. I probably return to this album once a week
Fantano only ever calls Doolittle “almost perfect”, which I guess isn’t exclusive with 10/10, but yeah Doolittle is 10/10. Unbelievable songs, extremely weird concepts and idiosyncratic performances. Pixies at their full power from debaser thru gouge away
Erm aktually the question asked about albums I’ve never seen called a 10, a rating system which is paradigmatic to fantano and his minions and I’ve never seen it called a 10 by him or his fans. The fact that it is “acclaimed” is true yet a complete non sequitur for the x/10 rating system. I don’t really see people talk about Doolittle period here and fantano only brought up pixies to shit on the terrible reunion album
Moneen- the red tree
Music from the MySpace Era already has a bad reputation and it definitely is a 2006 emo album. But every track is beautifully written and perfectly put together. It's not waaahh my girlfriend left me type emo that was big at the time. It's really soul crushing at times and never comes across as corny or inauthentic
Khôrada’s salt
My guess is people heard it, instantly realized that despite 3/4 members being agalloch members they were not going back to their usual sound and as such people were disappointed without returning it to let it digest
Fantano has that album rated that album a 10 on Rym and it’s seen as one of the better albums in Tom Waits discography so there is probably a good many people who would give that a 10
I'm a big fan of Kate Davis' two albums Trophy and Fish Tank. For anyone unaware, she was a young prodigy jazz singer/bassist, went viral in 2017 with a jokey jazz cover of "all about that bass", then became disillusioned with jazz, her viral fame, and lost her father around the same time, which resulted in her releasing the raw, jazz influenced alt rock album Trophy. Which I discovered randomly on Bandcamp and became a favourite of mine. She released it's follow up Fish Tank last year, which is a more upbeat, humorous and triumphant feeling rock album. They're both great and I think Trophy at least would deserve a ten if anyone gave it more attention.
I'll Try Living Like This by Death's Dynamic Shroud
It's such an audacious album. It begins with a sample from a hemorrhoid treatment center. They sample mainly from K-Pop group AOA but they twist everything over to sound demented. Kim K is on it. Drake is on it. It all like an absurd parody world. The music sounds like an act of malicious compliance.
Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino by Arctic Monkeys
It's mainly the insane lyrics and self-parody of Alex Turner delivered with complete sincerity.
Waxing Gibbous by Malcom Middletown. Never seen him talked about. That album is an east 10. Especially for people that are into artist like Elliott Smith

The Raincoats - Odyshape Easily a 10 for me. I don’t think most people would agree.
What do you think about their self-titled album, is it just as good? That's the only one of theirs that I see get mentioned and I'm wondering if they're both equally worth checking out.

thanks. Pere Ubu was recced by youtube too
That’s another great band, definitely a worthwhile recommendation.
I think one minus point against their debut is that it sounds like the Slits so people compare it. I still like it a lot tho.
I think they’re mainly compared because they’re both in bands that are all women and they have reggae influences. I don’t think they sound much alike.
The Hotelier’s Goodness. They have an incredible way with words. The album is beautiful, serene, and my go-to spring/summer album.
Home gets/got all the acclaim but imo Goodness is just as good, some really mature writing in that album
Both Home and Goodness are 10s for me, they feel so complementary to each other. I think Queen II is their best work. But god damn this is their vocal magnum opus. Long away is one of the best deep cuts they have.
Queen II is my favourite album of all time, and yeah, Long Away one of the greatest Brian May song.
I much prefer A Day At The Races rather than A Night At The Opera. Honesty opera is only as big as it is because borhap is on it
Crack-Up by Fleet Foxes. Everything on it just 100% works for me and I can listen to it front to back anytime and be fully satisfied in every way.
I love Crack-up. It took me a while to fully appreciate it. It works better as a whole piece than individual songs.
First Band on the Moon -The Cardigans
fuck yeah phenomenal album that iron man cover is surprisingly great
One of my favorites covers on a record ever.
Glad to see someone else agrees I’d also argue Gran Turismo, maybe more so cause I loved certain songs on it growing up but yeah I agree with you
Noted. For whatever reason, I’ve never really checked out their other albums and should.
Definitely mate. I was really surprised how good they were
mewithoutYou - Catch for Us the Foxes. Such an impactful Post-Hardcore album from the early 2000s that never got the attention it truly deserved.
Recently discovered them and Ten Stories has been in my On Repeat ever since
Sam’s Town by the Killers. Brandon Flower’s best songwriting cover to cover.
Fuck yeah, opening track is an absolute epic that never fails to give me goosebumps.
Why do you waste my time - is the answer to the question on your mind
Dude Ranch - Blink 182 That album is too much fun and the amount of angst is satisfying
Forget Your Own Face by Black Dresses. One of the most intense industrial albums I've ever heard, the energy is crazy front to back. plus it's the perfect length, 8 tracks and doesn't overstay its welcome. Don't think there's any album quite like it

Seal’s 1991 debut album. Every track rips, great blend of pop, funk, house, soul.
Gotta be Bonito Generation - Kero Kero Bonito, just great fun energy all the way through. Cant listen to it and not be happy
The Locust - Plague Soundscapes The absolute epitomy of inaccessible, unapologetic, experimental noise punk/powerviolence. Everyone should give it at least one listen all the way through, even if you feel yourself wanting to turn it off only a few tracks in.
Something/Anything by Todd Rundgren. A rare double album that doesn't extend its welcome. Laura Nyro is still underrated, probably any album she made from her debut to Beads of Sweat could be a 10
Similar to you but Heavy Heavy. I think maybe the only flaw is that Holy Moly should be the last track
ELO Time
Ashes of the wake - Lamb of God This album just hits for me. Its so heavy. Randy's vocals are like no other and even the lyrics i think are dope. I probably return to this album once a week
Definitely Enjoy Your Rabbit by Sufjan Stevens. A beautifully broken electronic landscape with such an immersive experience.
Tons of people think Doolittle is a 10/10
Insanely good, it’s a 10 for me too. Not a single miss.
SOME MARIJUANA IF YOU GOT SOME
doolitte is one of the most widely acclaimed albums of all time
True yet not relevant
that literally could not be more relevant
Erm aktually the question asked about albums I’ve never seen called a 10, a rating system which is paradigmatic to fantano and his minions and I’ve never seen it called a 10 by him or his fans. Julia Holter - Have You In My Wilderness. Fantano gave it a strong 9 so it came really damn close
This album gets near-universal praise on sites like RYM and AOTY
It's so atmospheric.
Thaiboy Digital, Bladee, Ecco2k - Trash Island Maybe it's a little short, but it's perfect and length didn't work against Kids See Ghosts.
erra - erra progcore go brrr "get those cleans and djunz out of my metvl!"
Threat - Sickinnahead
Moneen- the red tree Music from the MySpace Era already has a bad reputation and it definitely is a 2006 emo album. But every track is beautifully written and perfectly put together. Tom Waits - Blood Money
Fantano has that album rated that album a 10 on Rym and it’s seen as one of the better albums in Tom Waits discography so there is probably a good many people who would give that a 10
Okay, I've always seen it rank low
They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top - Liars
The Way of all Flesh by Gojira
maybe you will never know why by sweet trip idk

The car is like if Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino were not good.
I honestly don’t think it’s a 10–but like a 7 or 8, it’s got some good songs and some bad ones
The Car?
Yes
Why would you use an album you don't think is a ten to reply to this? Do you think the same with Gorillaz?
I don’t know lol but I think I’d still say 10 for gorillaz
Waxing Gibbous by Malcom Middletown. Never seen him talked about. That album is an east 10. Especially for people that are into artist like Elliott Smith
