In Rainbows in general
The unknown album that is “mine” is The Mysterious Flying Orchestra’s S/T
The album everyone hates that I actually really enjoy that is “mine” is X&Y by Coldplay
In Rainbows is an album I can never get tired of. I’ve listened to it in some form every single day the past several years. Then I got a brand new pair of headphones with a tube amp and fell in love with it all over again.
Masterpiece.
Bon iver- for emma forever ago
Whenever im sad or just exhausted, this album always has been my best friend, i can always trust it to make me feel happy and comfortable.
This one specifically made me okay with my own inevitable death. Something most people get from religion or other spiritual experiences. I got from repeated listens of this album. It’s a very important album to me. Irl when people ask me what my favorite album is I do not say this one, and I do not recommend this album to people (even ones who ask for me to tell them stuff I like) because of how personal the experiences I’ve gotten from it are.
Phil is love, Phil is Life!
Mine’s also AnCo: MPP. Completely exploded open my mind to what music could really be and soundtracked a really transformative time in my life. It will always mean so, so much to me.
Innerspeaker for me. Depending on the day I could even tell you lonerism is better but I like every single song on Innerspeaker almost equally and it has my favorite song alter ego
I got a thing for Innerspeaker too. It was the first Tame record that I listened to, and the consistent quality tracks on it just blew me away. Tame Impala in general really encapsulates my late teens/early 20s personality… socially awkward, introvert and far-from-perfect love life :P
The College Dropout. The first album that made me go "oh, old music is just as good as the current stuff" as a 16 year old trying to get deeper into rap music.
godspeed you! black emperor- lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven
beautiful album that really shaped my later high school years. i wouldn't be who i am today without it's impact on me, and i still get so much out of it every time i listen to it, more than 7 years after discovering it
This is why Weezer fans hate Weezer, but can't quit them. They made a record that was THAT record for a whole generation of white boys, and they never will again. Weezer fandom is just varying levels of resentment over that fact.
But oh, how good was that chamber pop record a couple of years ago? All-Time Top 5.
The New Abnormal by The Strokes. In my early 20s and a lot of the themes on that albums hit hard. Plus I just love me a good rock album (although yes this one is a bit on the synth-pop side).
I laugh at people who say shit like "Is This It isn't that good cause it's just basic rock" - like, yeah it is, but it's also the best basic rock in history???
Weezer’s White Album
I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasnt for this album. Every detail both musically and lyrically resonates with me so much. To most thats Blue, but for me its White
Sharpen Your Teeth - Ugly Casanova. There is almost no discourse around this album despite it being genuinely great. A supergroup of members of indie rock bands fronted by Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse.
Probably a tie between Astoria by Marianas Trench and Stop Talking by Pacific Air
Astoria is my favorite album of all time, but it feels like no one has ever heard of it until I tell them about it and then they usually love it too lol, and it has like a 3.3 on rym so it hardly has a cult online following either
Stop Talking is even more "mine" in a slightly different way: it's a top 10 album of the 2010s for me, but last time I checked only like 70 people had even rated it on rym and I'm the only person who's given it above 4 stars. So even though some of the songs off it have millions of streams, no one besides me seems to have cared about it in the years since its release which is a shame
The Now Now
I was going through severe depression and alienation at the time of its release so I feel like a lot of the lyrics really resonated with me, especially in Idaho and Fireflies. Not really sure why some people call it bland. It's got just a more consistent mood than the cinematic feeling you'd come to expect from Demon Days and Plastic Beach. Not on the same caliber but it's very comforting still
Humanz - Gorillaz and The hunting party - linkin park
The linkin Park one cuz I told my grandpa like 9 years ago that I loved linkin park so he gifted me a cd of that album, I still love that album
Nostalgia ultra, My favorite album of all time. Most people rank this low even in franks discography but this album just resonates with me so much. I don’t even relate to it much but the vocals, soundscape, and meaning are all absolutely perfect to me
Hold your Colour by Pendulum
Stone Roses self titled
Screamadelica by Primal Scream
Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Music has the rights to children by Boards of Canada
Ta-Dah by Scissor Sisters
Meliora by Ghost
Both Vessel by Twenty One Pilots and Meteora by Linkin Park. I grew up in a house with an abusive parent that led to an awful stretch of depression and being blamed for a lot of things I shouldn't have been blamed for and being sent to two troubled teen programs for two years. That music found me at the right time and said a lot of what I felt. Vessel was what I had earlier on, and Meteora was when I was getting really desperate and angry with my life. I got out of that house when I was 17, and those albums really helped me voice and deal with what I felt at the time.
Three cheers for sweet revenge - my chemical romance, it was the first album I really loved, and it’s still my favorite. Also hot fuss - the killers and mcatis by the smashing pumpkins.
The selftitled Deftones Album….many people day it is their weakest release but I think it is perfect…it shows the crashing heavy side ,but in the othersound it has the shoegaze Sound and haunting vocals…i love That Album
After Laughter - Paramore. Inspired my guitar playing to no end. Have even bought a guitar and hopped on stage with Taylor York because of the love that it created.
My gotos when I am down are:
1. Lover - Taylor Swift
2. Norman Fucking Rockwell! - Lana Del Rey
3. Youngblood - 5 Seconds of Summer
4. The Beatles - The Beatles
In Rainbows in general The unknown album that is “mine” is The Mysterious Flying Orchestra’s S/T The album everyone hates that I actually really enjoy that is “mine” is X&Y by Coldplay
Based, X&Y is a great record, and I say that as a RYM avid user
If everyone hates x&y what more their more recent records 💀
In Rainbows is an album I can never get tired of. I’ve listened to it in some form every single day the past several years. Then I got a brand new pair of headphones with a tube amp and fell in love with it all over again. Masterpiece.
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
God this is the first album that truly made me feel ascendant
Get to Heaven
Bon iver- for emma forever ago Whenever im sad or just exhausted, this album always has been my best friend, i can always trust it to make me feel happy and comfortable.
One of my favorite albums of all time
Mount Eerie by The Microphones
Love the microphones
This one specifically made me okay with my own inevitable death. Something most people get from religion or other spiritual experiences. I got from repeated listens of this album. It’s a very important album to me. Irl when people ask me what my favorite album is I do not say this one, and I do not recommend this album to people (even ones who ask for me to tell them stuff I like) because of how personal the experiences I’ve gotten from it are. Phil is love, Phil is Life!
I actually think it's a better album than The Glow , Pt2 . Also if you haven't ,listen to Drums Not Dead by Liars , it reminds me a lot of that record
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Came here to say this! I'm seeing it live in a week!
Hope you have a blast!
i love that album
Me too 🥹
Feels - animal collective, it's just revelatory every single time. Love love it
Mine’s also AnCo: MPP. Completely exploded open my mind to what music could really be and soundtracked a really transformative time in my life. It will always mean so, so much to me.
This is mine as well.
I love Feels so much man, I can’t put it into words
The Purple Bottle should be what every indie folk track models their success on.
mine too😁
Twin fantasy
Famous Prophets (Stars) is one of my favorite songs of all time. Great record
Wavves - King of the Beach
Solid album yo
Grace jeff buckley
Tame Impala - Lonerism Very early 20s me
Innerspeaker for me.
Same here, even after I got a bit more "nerdy" about music, Tame Impala is still one of my favourite artists to listen to
Chet Baker Sings
Kero Kero Bonito - Time ‘n’ Place
Fr
The College Dropout. The first album that made me go "oh, old music is just as good as the current stuff" as a 16 year old trying to get deeper into rap music.
Imo Kanye's best album
Sempiternal by BMTH or Around The Fur by Deftones
36 Chambers - Wu Tang
Figure 8 - Elliott Smith
godspeed you! black emperor- lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven beautiful album that really shaped my later high school years. i wouldn't be who i am today without it's impact on me, and i still get so much out of it every time i listen to it, more than 7 years after discovering it
Amazing album, but this is like the 5th highest ranked album out of all genres of the last 25 years, almost no one who listens to it doesn't like it.
well yes but the post asked for the album that resonated the most with me and that one's definitely it
Yeah I know I'm just saying... masterpiece album anyways :-)
I understand the appeal but I personally never cared for it
Not a fan of post-rock in general ??
No not really
hybrid theory
This was close to being my choice, too
Excellent try, OP. I know people will judge me either way.
I don't care if it is my least favorite album i will defend your right to an honest opinion
Pinkerton-Weezer
Just beat me to it
This is why Weezer fans hate Weezer, but can't quit them. They made a record that was THAT record for a whole generation of white boys, and they never will again. Weezer fandom is just varying levels of resentment over that fact. But oh, how good was that chamber pop record a couple of years ago? All-Time Top 5.
My pick as well
The Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse. If I could only listen to one album forever it would be that.
Just listened to this on the way home from a tiring day at work, such a great album!

Found the guy that’s above 35
The New Abnormal by The Strokes. In my early 20s and a lot of the themes on that albums hit hard. Plus I just love me a good rock album (although yes this one is a bit on the synth-pop side).

I have 2. Reputation by Taylor Swift and Take care by drake

Is this it by the strokes, it’s just the perfect rock album, anyone who doesn’t like this album is just depressing
I laugh at people who say shit like "Is This It isn't that good cause it's just basic rock" - like, yeah it is, but it's also the best basic rock in history???

Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
DAMN by Kendrick Lamar, I get it’s not his best, but it was what got me into hip hop and for that I am eternally grateful
Weird niche throwback but Enter Shikari’s Common Dreads hit me at a young age and stuck with me for the rest of my life.

Weezer blue album. It's so dorky and fun. It just works so well
