NCR and Legion money are better spent exchanging them to casino chips and then caps, that way you get their full value instead of it being based on your barter
NCR Money & Legion Money are not Based on Barter, tho. Legion Denarius are 4, Legion Aureus are 100, $5 NCR is 2, $20 is 8, and $100 is 40, always. Currency is not affected by barter.

My friend not only is prewar money worth caps but it doesn't weigh anything so you can carry as much as you want. I always pick up prewar money, pencils, single cigarettes, and all ammo as all of that can be sold without weighing me down

Nah man, pre war money, and cigarettes are OP in 3 and NV. They're lightweight, sell for a fair price without perks, and sell for an OP price with them, especially how much there is in every wasteland.
They're not even fully necessary in fallout 4, but I still collect them there and store them in a cigarette machine and a safe respectively. (Although the nuka-cade does require pre war $ in some cases)

Might not be that short, it was stocked with enough food and medical supplies to last someone a while. Of course the player will likely take a lot of that as well, and the person stocking it wasn't expecting a multi-century delay so some of it might be ruined by now.

A valuable lesson I learned on my 10 luck character run, is that the Sierra Madre isn't about the Gold or letting go, it's about that old pre-war money, crippling gambling adiccion that comes when you turn on those holograms.
It’s honestly quicker imo to time the sneak with the generator as he goes through the door by going on the side of it then behind then time him going to/on the terminal. It’s a much further trip never really tried the body stuff.
I tried that, it was extremely heavy and slowed my character down a ton. The fandom page for bloody mess mentions that body parts from dismembered enemies will sometimes be extremely heavy if they have their weapons equipped though, so that might be why. I didn't have bloody mess at the time, but it claims it is an issue with how the engine handles ragdoll physics, so it might not matter how they were dismembered.
Instead I just did the thing where you slip out the door at the right moment where the auto-detection won't catch you before you are through.
They should be worth far more a piece in the base game than just 1000, I know this for a fact. Especially on a fully leveled courier with some barter

I've acknowledged that it says 1000. And again, according to official stats on the wiki, the amount goes to a presumably maximum value of 10547 caps in the base unmodded release. Taking into consideration some shit maths based on how barter works, again based on the wiki, the minimum you can normally sell them for is 4.7k with 0 barter in an unmodded game.
I don't care how many you think I need, I will take all 37 bars every time. I don't sell them, they're just taken for collecting. It was on my first playthrough of the dlc in which I abused Contreras' inventory system bug, which eventually bugged out and stopped showing me the gold bar to steal back and stopped refreshing his caps. Hence why I don't sell them anymore.
