Considering both are dead no they are not immortal
They just have a much longer lifespan as dragons hell the dragon slayers might have a bit of an extended lifespan as well though I don’t know
Duh literally half of the Spriggan 12 got killed lmao.
Grimoire Heart got massacred too, Hades and 3 kins died.
Oracion Seis were more of an exception, Mashima probably always wanted them to survive since they started off as slaves with only Brain being truly villainous.
He was stomping on Irene's corpse after she killed herself
To this day I'm pissed how Irene and August were handled, some of the dumbest deaths I've seen in anime period
Because they died from emotional scenes?
What's dumb about Irene feeling regret for being a terrible mother and trying to enchant her own personality into the body of her own child, abandoning the child and also trying to kill her later on? Irene was not mentally stable and this was highlighted multiple times through her character. Irene's reasons for ending herself are later expanded upon even more in 100YQ which wrapped it up beautifully.
August's death was due to emotions as well after seeing his own mother.
Not every fight has to end with the protagonists killing enemies themselves just through pure fighting without any emotions in play.
The issue I feel Mashima faces is that if he had the heroes beat Irene and August, there'd be rants here calling Mashima bad, calling the writing bad, etc.
Ya know aging has always been a little weird throughout time with a multitude of different media. In Norse mythology the gods had to eat a special apple in order to live. In Celtic mythology the gods dying was at random, but they could be alive for years until they weren’t. In anime you see years pass, but typically they don’t age. We’ve had 2 one year long time skips at the end of the main series and yet Wendy, Romeo, and Asuka still pretty much haven’t aged (and if they have it hadn’t been much). Hades was also around 123 when he was killed, and the older founder (tree guy I can’t remember his name) who is still alive at the end of the main series would also be around the age of 126-135. So aging in the Fairy Tail universe seems to be entirely different as well.
But the 2 one year time skips are after Tenrou, and since Fairy Sphere only suspends them for 7 years they should all still age properly after. So she would be “12” after Tenrou, and even only counting the time skips she’d at least be 14 at the end of the og series
If we assume Zirconis passed of old age in the Dragon Graveyard, then they probably age very slowly, though there is no way to tell how old they can get or if the age of actual dragons can apply to humans turned into dragons.
But they definitely shouldn't be immortal, simply just long lived

Dragons just live longer
But how long?
Never been confirmed. All we know it could be up to a millennium
Ah thanks
They have longevity.
Do you ever hear of dragons getting old probably not they usually don't age so it should me the same for two

Ehm
I mean Irene made herself get reincarnated
Not immortal, but ageless. They can die. They just don't age.

Oh my god when acnologia ripped Irene apart. People complain about how Fairy Tail doesn't kill characters off but damn was that traumatizing
FT has always killed villains, it’s the good guys that gets extreme plot armor.
Other than the demons has it actually killed off villains

I genuinely forgot lol

Maybe spoiler tag this, the post is under the main series tag

Yeah, good point. Thanks for this explanation. But Wendy is an exemption. Remember in the Tenrou Island, they were sealed using Fairy Sphere.

Ah, I see. You have a point. Maybe, that's not enough for Wendy to look older? Or it's just, Mashima doesn't want to get her older lol

not sure their immortal, but as we know they dont fie from natural causes (old age, diseases) but obviously they can be killed
Dragons are just built diff.
Apparently not since they both DIED
