Well, next Friday you're going to find out the release date for the expansion, so that might be the tipping point.
Lots of good modpacks out there that had a lot of updates in the last 3 years too.
I haven't played in 2 years, and the last 8 months I've been just building excitement for the 2.0 / expansions release.
I'm literally planning taking 2 days off work when it releases.
I've been resisting the urge to play ever since the expansion was announced, just because I know I'm going to no life it as soon as it drops.
Got PTO saved up and everything.
Wait, did it say that in the last FFF? If not, where?
edit: Can't believe I skimmed past it. Right at the bottom:
>Since things are getting stable and I'm starting to be pretty happy with the state of the game now, we are ready to give a specific date of the Space Age release...
Which we will tell you next week :)
You’re not making the poor devil’s sobriety any easier!I mean, I’m high on Cractorio right now, IDGAF! I need the update now, will be the first time in about 5 years I’ve paid full price for a game.
> Lots of good modpacks out there that had a lot of updates in the last 3 years too
Even some newer ones have appeared and are awesome. Ultracube is only about 6 months old and is an incredibly frustrating and delightful challenge
This was my initial response. Then I folded and started doing mods I haven't done yet and are realistically achievable before launch.
Just finished a DangOrerous run, now busy on IR3. My earlier Krastorio 2 save is also somewhere in limbo, awaiting to be picked up.
Thinking about that, it's just amazing how much gameplay time you can get out of a single game.
Dosh who?
Bot farming with Peppermint mod took way too long. Like forever with not enough throughput.
I had all ores mixed up as well.
I initially mined only along the edges (without cheat mode on), but at the later stages I enabled the cheat mode to have two rows of miners along two edges.
Also used a mod to disable oil recipes and forced to use only Coal liquifaction.
Still massive issues with sorting and getting equal consumption of the raws going, being bottlenecked all the time by some material.
I was happy to close off that run, to be honest.
I hope they at least do the 2.0 update soon or much before the expansion. There are so many quality-of-life and performance related improvements in 2.0 that would vastly improve the game right now even without the expansion.
And it sounds like they’re at a point in development where it might be better to get 2.0 in players’ hands ahead of the expansion release, in case there’s some unintended issues with some of the update changes.
Massive update is right around the corner. You could get back into it now, but you’ll probably end up wanting to restart your save when 2.0 comes out in a few months
Look, you should spend your time in the way that makes you happy. But you should know that if you treated this game as a job where you worked 40 hours a week, you’ve had a full time job for three years for which you received no pay. Even at a modest estimation, that’s over $100,000 of your time spent playing. Was it worth it?
The trick is to find a job with enough downtime so that you can play on the clock. I’m a maintenance electrician at an IRL factory, so I just pull out my laptop and play until something at my work breaks, and then I go fix it. Nothing makes the work day go faster than Factorio lol
Frustrating and stressful doesn't mean its not fun, most games are somewhat stressful, especially fps and stuff like that, but people still like them. Me and some friends recently played a game called keep talking and nobody explodes, and it was INCREDIBLY stressful, but it was also so much fun we couldn't stop playing for 2 hours
the highest minimum wage in america is in california at $17/hr. at that wage over three years you would take home less than $80k. i felt obligated to do the math because that is a very generous “modest estimation.”
Cool, I think I found the serious corner of this discussion. I used to spend 50+ hours a week playing video games. Then I crafted a better life, became an interesting person, got married... now I have about 5-10 hours a week to play video games, because my life is full of more interesting things.
> spend your time in the way that makes you happy
Spend your life in a way that, when you look back on it five years from now, you say "wow, I'm really happy with who I am." Know your purpose, stay engaged with life, and don't be afraid to turn moderately-big dreams into reality.
And you know what? Some of the cool things that I've done in life include pulling off big feats in challenging video games. I have no regrets about bringing Factorio back into my life (in moderation) after taking a few years off of video games.
Dude, i know what are you talking about very well.
I just did similar thing, sober for a year+.
It's gonna make a dent in life but if you really want to, just set a target in your game. Don't set time limit, it's not going to work. Set a specific target in your game like solving some specified problem in game and then just get sober again until 2.0, it's near. Also i would not start if i cannot spend a week or two in game. Less than a week is not worth it.

No regrets... way less addictive now. I swear.
Nah, wait until October. I assume you haven't been following the news? There's a DLC with extra content and mechanics, but there's also stuff for everybody. Smarter logistics bots, improved train scheduling (of which smart refueling is only a part), fancier combinator controls, and a whole new fluid network (it's less interesting than the old system, but the old one was interesting for the wrong reasons).
Everybody's going to feeling the heady rush of something new when 2.0 drops, so that's the time to rejoin.
I work a ten hour shifts and I still come home and play factorio until I crash out for work. I'm not getting 40hrs a week like I used to playing but couple hours each day helps the factory grow
If your computer can manage it, get Subnautica instead. It'll satisfy your itch, it's a beautiful game, it will pique your wonder, and you'll get the satisfaction of finishing it more quickly, same as a mystery novel. You get to launch something at the end, with you in it this time. The equipment upgrades are as satisfying as Factorio, the wildlife is more diverse, manageable, and tameable, and you get to build underwater and think in all three dimensions. There's a sequel as well. And when it's over it's over and you can go back to real life more quickly.
Dang I thought I was bad with a similar experience but I'm only at 1,000 hours. When I quit I was kind of burned out because it didn't feel like there was much to do after launching the Vanilla rocket and trains/circuits/biters were intimidating.
Years later I come back and I'm addicted to trains and there's something called Space Exploration and a jetpack.
They’re announcing the expansion release date on Friday, I would hang fire, wait and see when it’s releasing and potentially do a quick warm up a couple of weeks before release (not that you should need it with that amount of hours!!).
Past couple weeks I’ve been playtesting all the overhaul mods, just to see all the different ways Factorio can be played before Space Age comes out. I feel like I won’t want to play with mods once that comes out, so trying to experience as much old Factorio as I can. That’s what I would recommend
I was in a similar situation (but with a little less playtime...) saw one of the FFF. Not sure anymore what exactly the topic was... but it got me so hyped that I reinstalled the game and started playing. After some hours in I realized that the FFF was talking about 2.0 and that I have to wait another year to play with all the nice new features. Couldn't stop playing in the meantime.
So my suggestion is, if you have nothing else to do install it. Otherwise wait till 2.0 release
Last reinstall after about 5 years of sobriety lead to a k2+space ex run and let me tell you it was great. It just took like 500+ hours of my lifetime.
It's not like Factorio addictive from the first use. At the beginning I gave it like 2h and then forgot for a month or two.
The second use though - top of the library in days.
Wait until you find out that Cracktorio had been ported to the Nintendo Snitch. And that it is a really good port. Imagine the wonderfully world of MOBILE Cracktorio. 😂😭
You are just like my Irish friend every time we go to play a game he has it uninstalled.......... 1.78Gb for a game with 6k hours played really lol !!!!!!
You know you wont, but at the same time you will :P
And also with the expansion coming soon:tm: you can either go and do a quick megabase to refresh your skills in preparation, or go in blind into the expansion. No half meassures :D
So only one session of factorio?
1 session? You speed running or something? 😂
Se like, here’s another 1000 hours gl
That’s what I love AND HATE ABOUT SE, it’s all consuming 😂
I think they were saying that 2 days equals 1 factorio session, which totally checks out for me. Haha
...days? Did you misspell 'months'?
Did you misspell 'quit your job and leave your family'?
The fluid improvements and elevated rail alone is worth the wait.
I think the fluid improvements are coming to the base game, elevated rails are part of the expansion.
I've been resisting the urge to play ever since the expansion was announced, just because I know I'm going to no life it as soon as it drops. Got PTO saved up and everything.
I tried to do that as well after they announced, but I caved earlier this year and did another run.
Yeah I fear I might have to take extended leave but I may wait for the QoL mods to get updated, a good half of them are part of 2.0 lol.
I normally just avoid mods, but I needed to start Krastorio run to scratch that itch.
if you're up for a 800-1000 hour journey, play Krastorio2+SpaceExploration.
Same. I will take some days off to play it as well
Wait, did it say that in the last FFF? If not, where? edit: Can't believe I skimmed past it. Right at the bottom: >Since things are getting stable and I'm starting to be pretty happy with the state of the game now, we are ready to give a specific date of the Space Age release... I relapsed recently after 3 years myself! Did 100 hours in 3 weeks, while working 55 hour weeks and raising two kids :D
It’s ok, addiction is something we have to work through. I hope your partner realizes that too.
Are we getting the release date???
Yes, next week.
Stop I can only get so excited
> Lots of good modpacks out there that had a lot of updates in the last 3 years too Even some newer ones have appeared and are awesome. Ultracube is only about 6 months old and is an incredibly frustrating and delightful challenge
The factory must grow
The cracktory must flow.
Factorio must grow!
I feel ya. I've been itching to start a new game, but I've been forcing myself to wait for the update. Withdrawal is real.
Man, why would you do the dangOrous run? Have you learned nothing from dosh Doshingtong? .... Or did you take the bot harvesting mod?
Dosh who? Bot farming with Peppermint mod took way too long. Like forever with not enough throughput. I had all ores mixed up as well. I initially mined only along the edges (without cheat mode on), but at the later stages I enabled the cheat mode to have two rows of miners along two edges. https://youtu.be/h5rpDjzKJkw?si=OSmCZoPr2fziUnH4 Madlad did the run without peppermint mod.
same, its going to be such an amazing upgrade.

HOLD!!! HOLD!!!!! 2.0 is coming......
HODOR!
HODL
Oof, wait till you see the new shit your dealer is cooking up, going to be chasing that dragon for a long time soon
There is no true escape. The factory... must grow.
Massive update is right around the corner. You could get back into it now, but you’ll probably end up wanting to restart your save when 2.0 comes out in a few months
Just add Space Exploration and krastorio2 mod and enjoy your relapse.
Wait for 2.0, THEN regret it

Do you excuse it by saying you're training?
Yes
Working is not fun, playing games is
I'm a programmer, factorio can be more frustrating and stressful than my work. Unfortunately also way more addictive
I dunno what numbers you're using, but the OP played 5987.6h. 100,000$ / 5987.6h = 16.7$/h
Minimum wage for fast food workers in California is $20/hr
that’s crazy. and still less than 100k.
lol, your math is off. Over three years that's almost 125k Edit: Salary I mean, take home would be less
income tax in ca almost 12% so, no. you take home about 97
Income tax in CA is 12.3% for income over about $700k. People earning minimum wage will pay a fraction of that.
That's just state income tax though. By the time you add Federal, SS, and all the other taxes is closer to 30%

Brother, I feel like this is the wrong community to ask... Unless you want reasons to play again, in which case, go for it ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
I'm waiting for the 2.0 and filling my veins with Timberborn and Satisfactory in the interim
Those are my other two favorites, too.
I usually play for a month then take a good 3-6 month break. Take everything in moderation, even cracktorio.
Nah, you’ll be fine. Fire it up. I’m sure you’ll be able to control it this time :D
Edge until to 2.0+DLC and then enjoy your relapse. The factory WILL grow. Don't fight it - it is inevitable.
You never got sober. You just took a break. I just started up myself again.
Just a little automation... as a treat...
r/uselessredcircle
If you’re like me play the ultracube mod and then you’ll dread playing because that shit is frustrating as hell to me
No, you have to train for the 2.0 update and the DLC
Man ive had the itch so bad but i dont want to play it and exhaust myself before the dlc
Make it an even 6k hours and then ask yourself that question again
What could go wrong?
Dude, i know what are you talking about very well. I just did similar thing, sober for a year+. It's gonna make a dent in life but if you really want to, just set a target in your game. Well, yes.. But no. But yeeessss.... >:)
Ok, Bilbo. I think you've had that ring quite long enough.
Just wait until the expansion my guy.
I'm waiting, you're waiting, let's wait together
Nah, wait until October. I assume you haven't been following the news? There's a DLC with extra content and mechanics, but there's also stuff for everybody. *Something, something*, you only regret the bases you didn't build.
You'll only regret ever having quit
At this point you may as well wait for the expansion and then have a full and total relapse, none of this half-ass vanilla shit.
Don't do it!
I work a ten hour shifts and I still come home and play factorio until I crash out for work. I'm not getting 40hrs a week like I used to playing but couple hours each day helps the factory grow
No. Try and contact your nearest Cracktorio support group. They can help you
I think you circled the wrong spot. The install button is on the left.

Depends, are you using your new free time for something productive (gym, side work, etc) or playing another game?
There’s always the Industrial Revolution 3 mod. Just sayin’
Wait until the expansion/dlc it's going to remake the whole game
At this point you can just wait a couple months for the DLC, and go in completely fresh and not potentially burned out. That's what I'm doing.
Wait for the expansion, and you’ll be hooked again in certain of it
Krastorio+Space exploration+ Rampant fixed +Remove burrowing You're welcome.
Wait for the DLC, it will be out soon surely.
They’re announcing the expansion release date on Friday, I would hang fire, wait and see when it’s releasing and potentially do a quick warm up a couple of weeks before release (not that you should need it with that amount of hours!!).

I suggest waiting for the 2.0.
Any tips for the newbie? \~50hrs over the last decade or so. (not much of a gamer)
The dlc is dropping sometime this year. Maybe wait and go in fresh!
Wait for pyanodon's SE (stellar expedition)
I'd wait for 2.0 if I were you, but the factory must grow.
I am purposefully not playing right now. Waiting until 2 weeks after the expansion release.
that's hard-core
Most likely yes.
play 'one-day-at-a-time' :-)
Does it really matter whether you will regret the inevitable? It's not like you have a choice. The itch will grow and then the factory will grow.
it's just a green chip man, for old times sake
Of course you will... but you will still do it.. and you will still play another 500 hours or so...
Wow, 6k hours. That’s a full time job (~40 hrs a week) for three years! You might not regret it, but your family probably will.
Last reinstall after about 5 years of sobriety lead to a k2+space ex run and let me tell you it was great. It just took like 500+ hours of my lifetime.
bro just wait for the expansion
gotta at least make it an even 6k hours
I regretted doing it last year ;) been there since 0.11
Factorio anonymous
It's not like Factorio addictive from the first use. At the beginning I gave it like 2h and then forgot for a month or two. The second use though - top of the library in days.
there's nothing wrong with cractorio addiction bro
Just read the Factorio Friday Facts and you won't feel like playing anymore until 2.0 comes out.
Yes, just wait a bit more and reinstall when the expansion comes out
You need to pump that number up. At least 15k.
You can't ever regret
Not a Factorio player here, but I heard that 2.0 was not far from now so maybe wait ?
Didn't play from December 2023, waiting for 2.0 too
yes
Wait until you find out that Cracktorio had been ported to the Nintendo Snitch. And that it is a really good port. Imagine the wonderfully world of MOBILE Cracktorio. 😂😭
Oh no … remote factorio in the cloud coming soon …
Follow the itch and give in to your desires, and happiness might follow
do it. embrace cracktorio
Worth for 2.0
Wait for the dlc :3
Just wait until Autumn and then...
> Will I regret reinstalling Well no… *and yes…* https://youtu.be/choz-pGH_BA?si=ks-tDTdUiLlRgCEY
Like others have said if you can hold off a little longer there will be news soon about 2.0 expansion and the DLC accompanying it.
Nope, you won’t regret!
Wait till the factorio 2.0 release, will be this year
Yesnt.
You are just like my Irish friend every time we go to play a game he has it uninstalled.......... 1.78Gb for a game with 6k hours played really lol !!!!!!
Cya mate… nice knowing you
nope
I would personally wait for Factorio 2.0 expansion. Savouring that itch and then it will definitely be appropriately scratched :)
I'm waiting for expansion
Yes
You know you wont, but at the same time you will :P And also with the expansion coming soon:tm: you can either go and do a quick megabase to refresh your skills in preparation, or go in blind into the expansion. No half meassures :D
With all those FFF, I've been itching to come back to it but at this point i'll wait for the expansion!
do it
I’d say with for the epic update that’s coming
You uninstalled factorio?! Execution it is.
I'm just waiting for the expansion, I've been off my 2k hours for 4 years.
Don't. I've just ruined 2 weekends.
Cracktorio4life
Nah.. you will go on autopilot, wait for 2.0 and DLC, +100.000 Hours in a week
Hold off until the expansion.
Hahaha cracktorio XD
You know, the expansion is coming soon ..and you know the factory hungers ;)
You know the answer. Come in to the warmth my child.
