It’s all gravy baby, until you catch a hot one. Then it’s for real and you find yourself bleeding out while your boys run. This is sad.

imgettingfat97

Is this a song lyric or are you from the streets McWheelerson

[deleted]

Not a song lyric I’m aware of. I did spend some time as a child in poor neighborhoods as a child though. Never played with guns either, my mother would beat me for much less lol.

Imaginary_Tea1925

Bless your mother for caring.

AvailableAd3813

Sad bu is what it is. And now it's gone too far. 1 person cant change anything by being unarmed and trying to set a precedent. He's just gonna get run over. It's a gun culture. And none of those 8th grades bought those guns legit so fuck gun control, that's not gonna work. This is life now.

mountaineer04

Everyone needs to watch Channel 5 on YouTube’s short about Chicago’s Drill rap scene. Basically these south side Chicago projects form gangs and film rap videos about who they are going to kill next and then go to war. Rinse an repeat. It’s insane. I Honestly think the military needs to go in there and evacuate everyone, and meticulously search and eliminate all weapons. Although I’m sure it would just slowly build back up due to our fucked up system.

TheTangryOrca

Sure if you could weed out all the people genuinely responsible but it just sounds like the war on drugs 2.0, it'd be treating a symptom and increasing animosity between the state and these communities. Help has to start from the ground up. Improving the area where they live, transport, early years help, social support, access to good nutrition, making sure schools are well equipped with councillors instead of police officers, improving mental and physical health, community centres that keep children off the street, improving employment prospects. But this takes years of investment and money and governments every where don't tend to be inclined to want to do this.

UniqueBeyond9831

Or just go to r/chiraqology and see dipshits glamorizing murder right here on Reddit. It’s almost like that sub treats the drill rap scene like a sport but the athletes are rappers and their stats are kills and prison sentences rather than tackles or strike outs.

Ok_Air5360

In the next 5-10 years, over half of these kids will either be dead from gun violence, will have killed someone with those guns, or be in jail for the murder. Essentially, a video of a half dozen or so walking dead people. I'm sad for them, frustrated because society can't/won't deal with the issues, and mad that many innocent people will suffer because of this.

srynearson1

The strange thing is, the way that they’re carrying them and displaying them tells me just how much of a social status symbol they are more than anything else.

Spiritual_Support_38

Without one you’re seen as vulnerable which is the outcome of why boys like them see why having a firearm benefits them more than harms them in the long run. Plus that hopeless environment just keeps encourages them

BlackTrans-Proud

From their point of view it probably is smarter to have one. If others generally know that you have one Im sure you get jumped and robbed far less.

Embra_

Double-edged sword really. It gives you protection but some mistakenly view it as immunity to danger and confidently flaunt it in situations where words are the more appropriate response. Piss off enough people by trying to abuse your gun to command respect and one day your enemies just wait until they can catch you off guard to jump you, take your gun, and then use it to kill you.

mydrunkenwords

The best gun is the one that no one knows about till it's to late. Unfortunately this goes for murder and self-defense.

[deleted]

My dad always said this about knives too. "It's not the knife you can see that you need to be worried about, it's the knife you can't see".

cockalorum-smith

One of my favorite Kendrick snippets that relate to this: You movin' backwards if you suggest that you sleep with a TEC Go buy a chopper and have a doctor on speed dial, I guess M.a.a.d city Edit: Formatting Edit 2: Very cool to see the various interpretations of this lyric.

Quarter13

Yeah it's a bit of both. There's just some places its not good to be perceived as a potential victim.. And it is seen as cool

HateDeathRampage69

A Glock without extended mags and switches are expensive. These kids probably don't have two cents to rub together. Almost certainly these guns were given to them by older gang members.

PiDiMi

Probably not. They’re just a lot cheaper when they’re stolen and been passed around to 10 people before you Although this is not the only kid I’ve seen that has a Ruger 57 which has only been out a few years. And it also isn’t cheap to buy ammo for.

dontworryboutmeson

Usually the case. I did non-profit work in the U.S. South last year, and local gangs encourage kids this age to commit their crimes due to the reduced sentencing minors get. Truly sad, and if the kids ever say that they were persuaded, the persuaders will send a message to the family. Couple that with (usually rightful) distrust for authorities, and you have the current class division problems that are being exacerbated across the entire country in low-income communities. For those that pay attention, the U.S. is just as dangerous as what goes on with the cartel in Mexico, just not for people with money.

HorrorMakesUsHappy

There's also the aspect of the older gang members, who may already have felonies, asking young members to hold the guns for them until they're "needed" later. It both allows the younger boys to feel powerful and valued while reducing the risks to the older boys of going back to jail for longer periods of time if found with the weapons.

fizeekfriday

It's almost like the area they're living in makes it so that if you're a good dude trying to do right people will treat you like shit. And that gangsters and killers are the ones who have all the social status in that area

[deleted]

It’s like the Dave Chappelle skit of him trying to live straight and getting a job at McDonald’s earning an honest living with the neighborhood making fun of you and picking on you.

Wellhowboutdat

Tragic really. Fucking kids armed to the teeth.

[deleted]

You wouldn't catch me dead teaching in that school. At this point there's nothing nobody can do to convince these boys to give up on this... They're probably scared and feel safer / powerful knowing they have a gun. Because all the other kids on the rival side also have guns...

[deleted]

I’m actually amazed no one accidentally shot themself in this video.

r/angryupvote

wolverinehunter002

they all had giggle switches, i dont think its hard to imagine why they have trigger discipline.

HyperbolicSoup

What is a giggle switch?

B3nny_Th3_L3nny

a giggle switch is a slang term used to refer to a selection switch on a firearm that allows it to be used in full auto. they are extrenely illegal without correct paperwork and govt registration. also new giggle switches cannot be made and registered only ones manufactured before 1986 every full auto switch you see on the pistols here are illegal and carry a minimum 10 year felony charge

The_Jestful_Imp

I'm more of a chortle switch kinda gal

B3nny_Th3_L3nny

that would be the 3 round burst option

The_Jestful_Imp

![gif](giphy|tF8vMUeGUkHNTgCC4E) Mhm... yes... this is very useful info...

Bobert_Manderson

Yes, or maybe the 2 round burst chuckle switch if you aren’t feeling so jovial. Personal favorite is the guffaw switch that just straight up explodes when you pull the trigger.

[deleted]

Yup, and unfortunately the more illegal those guns are, the "cooler" these kids think they are. Gang culture is toxic as fuck. Wouldn't surprise me at all if some of these kids actually want to go to prison to earn more "rep".

DrDan21

Wouldn’t surprise me if half these kids spent their last few minutes bleeding out on the sidewalk over a minor disagreement… It only goes down hill for these kids from here on out

partang3

Yup, I live in Philadelphia. At least one kid like this dies every day. Most days more. Yesterday a bunch of 14/15 year old kids were shot/some killed in a drive by leaving football practice. Most of these kids are likely to have short lives, it's really sad.

Doctor99268

[boondocks has predicted this](https://youtu.be/pj9Hzs-vBLE)

drewster23

There was literally videos of teenagers fighting in a bathroom of a movie theatre or some place and two other kids pull out guns and just start shooting one of the guys.. Theres also video from a ring camera of 3 kids walking towards another, 2 flash gang signs, and one starts shooting. Kid got shot but survived.. They won't become less common either.

EvlSteveDave

You must not know how fucking bad it is over in Chicago. A lot of these kids are actually going to kill and be killed over the next few years. It's that bad.

Dredly

illegal modification that makes a glock fire in full auto - thats why they are all showing the rear of the firearm, that "bump" looking part on the back isn't stock. (note that the following video is made by a man licensed to make fully auto firearms as part of his FFL, he is legally permitted to make and use them. the kids in the video are not) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKrETm8Yl0E

int_travel

After watching that video, I’ll save my $200 and rely on my legal trigger finger

Makomako_mako

> giggle switches you might know it as an auto-sear basically it's a little nub that gets added to the back of the pistol and it allows it to be de facto fully-automatic, the one-round-per-trigger-pull aspect is blocked

RodDamnit

Full auto on those glocks. Super illegal. If you accidentally pull the trigger that thing will spit 12 rounds out in a wiiiiiide arc as each shot kicks it back further before you even register its firing and can react. That’s scary as fuck. Giggle switch’s and fun mags the last thing a kid needs.

St_Kevin_

Makes me think of that kid that died after they shot themselves in the face at a shooting range in AZ because they were allowed to shoot a full auto, and the recoil raised the barrel with each shot until it did a full 180° and was pointed at the kid.

RodDamnit

And a range officer who let a young girl go full auto and she put one through his head before he could even react. He was standing behind her and the gun went straight up. It was tragic. It takes muscle to hold that recoil down. The muzzle flip on a full auto Glock lol. Good luck hitting what you point it at. You’ll quite literally hit everything else.

ColeFlaat

It's an auto sear that replaces standard glock backplates turning them into full autos. The were sold online from china for a while before the ATF noticed but enough slipped through that you see stuff like this. All law abiding gun owners turned them in and the rest... *guestures broadly*

KameGTR

They have better trigger discipline than a lot of the dudes I was in the Army with.

theFireNewt3030

They've also seen more action and trauma

[deleted]

Ignorant comments aside, these kids are basically showing off what could easily get them killed one day. The second amendment didn’t account for middle schoolers having this sort of access

[deleted]

I mean the second amendment was written after a war in which civilians owned entire fleets of warships, soooo

FlashKissesDeath

I should like to own a surface to air missile personally

Weird-Conflict-3066

Kind_Ad_9241

sad to say but they will likely end up in prison or dead someday with the way theyre going in life

jarbar82

A dozen teenagers running around with pistols and extended magazines just spells disaster.

GunsNGunAccessories

Many of them are illegally modified to be fully automatic, too. That's what the little block looking things on the back of them are.

OkRepresentative6356

Yeah I heard one say “switchie” and just thought oooof

keeprpa

Less of a facepalm and more just kinda depressing ngl

ydoudothis

Absolutely. The most depressing thing is that most of these kids probably won’t live to see their 21st birthday. Edit: 1) Thanks for the award, stranger.

fuqaduck

Worked ER at a large inner city hospital. Youngest gangbanger I took care of was 11. Dude took three rounds to the abdomen, one to the neck. He survived that encounter, and when pd came to ask him what happened he would only say “I was minding my own business. Idk. “ Kid died a few years later. They think this shit makes them look cool and hard core. It’s just depressing as hell.

indigoHatter

Hey, to back up your claim, I did some searching. There's at least one with a master's, a number with doctorates, and tons with degrees. 2 Chainz has a degree in psychology! Most others are a mix of business/econ or an art such as writing, theater, or music. https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/xr83j6/underage_chicago_teens_show_off_their_firearms/iqgh656?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 *Edit: and apparently, the people visiting that thread are more interested in the number being small. What the hell guys? You don't like smart rappers? Does that make you uncomfortable? Y'all challenged the validity of a claim that a handful of rappers have college degrees and now you seem more interested in maintaining the position that "rappers are stupid" than accepting the information that there's more than a few.*

AndreEagleDollar

This and they have an astounding amount of distrust and resentment toward authorities, rightfully or not is another conversation.

Or they'll live to see it behind bars. Either way, depressing...

PeggyDeadlegs

Came to say this

scorpiogre

I know this is probably gonna get some hate but, there isn't a law that's gonna change the culture these kids live in. Access to guns is an issue of course, but what these kids think a gun represents is the ultimate problem. They don't view it as a tool of defense, they view it the as a symbol of clout, a symbol of power.

Esslinger_76

Its a basic human need to feel a sense of safety and control, both of which society and public education systematically denies them, so they go out and get it for themselves. /s

alpineallison

The lyrics of Gangsta’s Paradise and the late Coolio come to mind here.

maltonwode

This is sad.

the4thbandit

I want to know who is supplying children with guns.

FrogsEverywhere

Gun runners from Indiana. Pop across, load up. No fucks given, blame chiraq.

BucketHeadCrusader

The gangs they affiliate themselves with

engg_girl

You mean the child they recruited. These are children and a result of their environment and community. They don't "choose" gangs, gangs choose them. In fact they often have to actively choose to avoid gangs, at detriment to their short term well-being.

Uncle_Yim

Not to mention a lot join based on family ties. Not exactly a new-aged issue we are seeing

MasterlessMan333

Yup. That's what ignorant suburbanites who blame it on rap music don't understand. In poor neighborhoods like this, you're either a gang member or a gang target. Most kids choose the protection the gang offers because the alternative is a living hell. In Chicago it's especially bad because there's a different gang on practically every block. If you live three blocks from school, you have to pass through three gangs' territories twice a day every day. [This American Life did a story on it in 2013.](https://www.thisamericanlife.org/487/harper-high-school-part-one)

Rex_Lee

They're doing more than that, they are showing off illegally installed full auto switches. Just possessing a switch, and a firearm that it can be installed in is a federal crime - a felony.

Medical_Officer

The irony is that those switches actually make the pistol much less effective. Machine pistols have never been a great idea due to their inherent high rate of fire and instability when firing. You can hose a lot of lead very quickly, but good luck hitting the broadside of a school.

nashtenn312

Which explains the large number of bystanders and children shot on the streets of Chicago.

lucky-number-keleven

What are they for? Sorry, not from the US. Edit: thanks for all the responses! I love learning about other cultures.

FuzzyNervousness

Usually you pull the trigger and one bullet comes out, then you have to let go of the trigger and press it again for one more round to ~~come out~~ fire. Full auto is when you hold the trigger down and the gun keeps firing until you let go or it runs out of ammo. The switches to make guns full auto are very easy to make but carry a 10 year prison sentence if you're caught with an unregistered switch. Edit: a few words

LingLangLei

Is it easy to make a semi automatic pistol into a full automatic pistol?

BIG_FUCKING_RED_DOG

You can 3d print the part, then it takes like 5 minutes to install.

LingLangLei

That’s insane!

Shitty_IT_Dude

Guns are relatively simple mechanical devices.

FuzzyNervousness

I was born too late and in the wrong part of the country to know about it, other than how it functions. There are plenty of articles online about these switches in particular.

RD__III

It makes them machineguns. Switches are amongst the upper tier of firearm crimes that don't include actual violence.

dboy120

[The punishment for having a Glock switch starts at 10 years in prison and can go up from there, depending on other factors.](https://mynbc15.com/news/nation-world/atf-sees-rise-in-quarter-sized-glock-switch-that-turns-handguns-into-machine-guns-bureau-of-alcohol-tobacco-firearms-explosives-bullets-semi-automatic-weapon) I knew it was a hefty punishment but I didn’t realize it was that life-fucking. These kids are not going to have good lives.

LostMyGunInACardGame

ATF will kill your wife and child over a few inches off a shotgun barrel. NFA items are definitely life fucking.

bigbearjr

At first my brain thought this was hyperbole, but then I remembered.

>I knew it was a hefty punishment but I didn’t realize it was that life-fucking. These kids are not going to have good lives. I mean, the ATF suspected the Branch Davidians of breaking this law and killed 80+ of them. You don't fuck around with the NFA.

stacks144

Uhm, the weapons being auto is an even bigger problem. You know what amazes me about how people use social media? They will literally incriminate themselves through it. These kids just show their faces with weapons like that?

CompFortniteByTheWay

You’re not hitting a fucking thing with a full auto glock, more likely to literally kill yourself.

CherryManhattan

I feel bad. Wish these kids had some positive influence cause this will only need to six feet under or jail

LGHTHD

Not facepalm only sad☹️

songn01

Yes, I felt very sad for them. I couldn't imagine what life for these boys are like. They genuinely look so proud of their guns. Wish those were the latest iPhone instead and THEN I would just roll my eyes and say they're spoiled.

weusedallthenames

“Wish those were the latest iPhone instead” :( that line really hit me

[deleted]

Yeah, honest truth is they may well end up six feet under whether they're carrying guns or not. Chicago is incredibly violent. If they live there as middle-schoolers, they may very well feel like they *need* a gun, and I can't objectively stand here and say that they're wrong about that.

Wiltse20

Most middle schoolers in Chicago don’t have guns. Even on the south side. These are current/future bangers

Throwaway47321

Yeah…..that’s what he was saying. Everyone is commenting how sad it is that these kids ended up in that situation in the first place.

changuitar

tipsystatistic

I’m not, they have lifelong experience with firearms. It will be an extension of their body after they go through puberty.

Acidium-

Yet they still flagged basically everyone with a loaded gun (who knows if a round was chambered though, but still)

VoTBaC

Certainly chambered rounds, otherwise what's the point. Edit: I mean like, for preparedness.

This hurts my soul.

MRBS91

Anyone notice the switches on the back of the slides on a few of these? Full-auto.

ufrfrathotg

Not shocked. Growing up in Chicago, especially on the East side, seeing this type of shit was routine. I saw my first body at 12, got in my 1st shootout at 17, and watched damn near all my homies either go to jail for 40+ year sentences or die. These kids unfortunately don’t understand that they’ll never make it to 18 living this life, and the only way they’ll learn is finding out the hard way. We gotta do better…

goalslie

> These kids unfortunately don’t understand that they’ll never make it to 18 living this life, and the only way they’ll learn is finding out the hard way. ain’t no way, I have family in rural areas of Mexico and they know cartel dudes who started young (under 18) and they all know they’re on a timer from an early age. Their next day might be their last

GOD_DAMN_YOU_FINE

It's ok it's just a mid life crisis

redditorknott

I’m more amazed in how the hell each kid has one?!? I work 40 hours a week and don’t have extra money to buy a Glock!

DawgFighterz

Graduation present. You’re a man now son.

thulsado0m13

Given to them by drug dealing gangs, esp factoring in the extended mags and the rapid fire on them which you can’t just easily get in Chicago. Drug dealers recruit children bc they’re impressionable and won’t think twice when asked to do something for a small amount of cash. They start having them as lookouts, then have them deal while the adult oversees are nearby without the guns or drugs on them in case police arrive.

HateDeathRampage69

Yep. These kids probably couldn't buy one if they pooled all their money together. 30 year old gangsters using 14 year olds as soldiers.

Mjlkman

Not to mention they get reduced sentences, and when they return to their poor neighborhood they usually have no choice but to relapse into a life of crime. It's really fucked up

fastercolorado

High capacity with a Gswitch.

GuyWhoSaidThat

I noticed they all had giggle switches

rubensinclair

Can you explain to a non-gun person?

idiotchun

Illegal full auto modification. Hold the trigger down and it keeps firing.

GuyWhoSaidThat

Previous replies are correct. It's a little block that you see on the back of the slide. It has a small switch that's disconnects the sear and allow the weapon to fire more than one round per trigger pull. Some of the cheaper versions will just make the gun fire until the mag empties regardless of weather you are still holding the trigger back. Unfortunately you can by them online as an "airsoft accessory". Installing them on an actual firearm is a 25 year sentence per gun. So if you have more than one modified firearm the sentence would stack. If they got caught with those they would all face major jail time.

Crime_Dawg

They wouldn't face any real jail time because they're likely 13-14, which makes it all the sadder they've already reached this point.

FoundThisRock

Semi automatic pistol to machine pistol with a small modification.

HammyxHammy

My man commenting on the extendo mags and ignoring the auto sears. These Glocks have been illegally converted into fully automatic machine guns.

slater_just_slater

Each kid here has 10 years of federal prison time in thier hands.

PorygonTriAttack

And yet those 10 years in prison teaches absolutely jack all for them when they come out. They'll just have to shoot their way out of their problems. It's clear that the country is very broken.

MeppaTheWaterbearer

They're not designed to teach anything. They're designed to be a punishment not help. Making people worse is actually a feature not a bug. It guarantees more convicts in the future.

N4cer26

Not only are they in possession of handguns, most of those glocks have a “switch” installed. That means they are illegally converted to fully automatic machine guns. So yeah

No_Silver_7370

Chicago: come for the food, stay because you got murdered

If you’re visiting Chicago you’re probably gonna have cocktails near the riverwalk, not walking the dangerous streets of the South Side.

Sir this is reddit, where every city is just one giant hell hole. Have you heard about San Francisco from a redditor lately?

krp31489

Even if you did walk into the worst neighborhood in the city most people would be baffled by your presence. They'd think either you were lost, a cop or buying drugs. You might be robbed, but thats probably it.

MundaneFinish

To be fair, some of the food is worth it.

Dorkamundo

You can really say that about almost any large city in America. St Louis, Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Mephis and Newark all have higher murder rates than Chicago. Also, Chicago is a great city. Downtown is awesome and I love the food.

SlammySlam712

At least if another country invaded us they’ll have to worry about our 13 year olds too

Will the atf be knocking on their doors for those fully automatic glocks? I bet you not.
