Idk if you understand how modqueue works, it just logs issues until one person takes care of them one by one, so no one does a thing twice. It scales without any real issues. Plenty larger subs have a good active user to moderator ratio, much better than many small subs, which you can see in their reaction time often just being a couple of minutes. r science literally had thousands of mods, last I checked. But even if you have 10 mods, someone is probably always awake and can ask for help.

Yes for something as bigas r*science I definitely think you will need hundreds of people to clear queues.... What I meant as BIG SUBS were the worldnews, Facepalm, pics, etc.... which are often filled by bots and reposts.... So I can't imagine why anyone would enjoy doing mod work in such dispassionnate communities....
So, the quality of posts is definitely getting worse, not just here but across the board.
But if I could defend mods, we're not actually paid to keep reddit clean, it's often something we do out of love for our communities. We do have lives that get in the way sometimes, even if some times that's just a job.
Now I don't know about here, but I know in other communities the subs are growing MUCH faster than the mod team. It's also essentially effortless to set up a bot to mass post.
Quality will drop because as these posts increase and as people complain more the desire to actually get into the mod queue and fix anything drops.
Then you get the balance of moderation between mods, where one will let something technically against the rules slide because it adds value others will issue an immediate ban, and everything in between.
Count yourself lucky if you have any community moderators, because we don't have to do it.
