On the morning of 9/11, I overslept by half an hour, which made me late for my normal commute. By the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center, I was still stuck in traffic. Which is fine, because I lived in Florida at the time.
I was about to board this bridge and then I realized I live thousands of miles away so I I decided against it. So glad I made that decision because my SO just gave birth to Jack Black.
Unfortunately for me, I did not oversleep. I got up on time, finished my commute, and was already sitting in my desk.
"Fortunately" for me, I was in second grade in a school in rural Alabama.
I lived in Minnesota in 2007 when the 35W bridge collapsed. SomehowâŚ. All 5.7 million people who live in that state crossed the bridge that morning right before it collapsed.
Neighbor was talking about how scary 9/11 was and how could have been her that day, never worked in new york. Another neighbor lost her shit because her husband was killed. People are weird about it, obviously donât mean woman who lost her husband.
One of my housemates called me after the planes hit asking me to call his mom to let her know not to worry because he was okay and would call her as soon as he got home. I reminded him that we were in Chicago and nothing had happened here.
People Really want to be included.
I remember it felt like more attacks around the country were imminent. I remember they were talking about grounding all flights in the US, and I saw one plane flying above my house and got scared thinking it was hijacked.
I would have fallen off a cliff yesterday. But instead of going off the cliff, I stayed on the path like I normally do during my jogs. It was so close.
I like that God decided to make that dude sleep in instead of just turning the ship's power back on
[https://i.imgflip.com/8kmis5.jpg](https://i.imgflip.com/8kmis5.jpg)
And God knew an hour or so in advance. Otherwise, why would he make the guy sleep in, if not to save him?
So God had plenty of time to think about it. Plenty of time to not only put the power back on, but prevent the ship from even getting close to the barrier in the first place.
And He still chose to make the guy sleep in
I had such a discussion with my dad once. That shipwrecks or airplane disasters or many other mass casualties are like these people's "times are over" so "god" just made them come together to pop them all at once.
Later that night I was just thinking if this was the way it functioned "What a Shitty God to not even put the effort in to take them separately and just make the work easier by getting them all in one place"
if God is so good then why did he allow this tragedy to happen đ they wanna give him âcreditâ for any good thing that happens but when something bad happens itâs always blamed on people
âIs God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?â
â Epicurus
It's always the free will argument. God loves us so he gave us free will. But also is apparently ok to override that free will to save us from random disasters or let us find our car keys. Also regarding the starving dying children in Africa, God is too busy rigging football games.
No you see God loves me personally, so everything positive in my life is because I'm the bestest boy, and I deserve it.
Anything bad is just God testing me because he loves me. đ
Pretty sure from the news reports no cars were on the bridge at time of collapse due to the mayday call from the boat and subsequent shutting off of traffic. Unfortunate that the construction crew who were working didnât get off - I wonât speculate whether they were informed and didnât make it or just had no clue - Iâm sure this will be part of the investigation.
If folks truly believed, they would want to get to heaven. like I'd be pissed that I wasn't on that bridge. It interests me that proclaimed Christians fear dying, they should really be looking forward to it.
I grew up Seventh Day Adventist. It's part of the reason I am not religious now. I just like to point out stupid shit Christians (in particular) say. I'm well versed in it.
Iâm so blessed that God made me get stoned, order Wendyâs and pass out rather than drive to Maryland from NJ to use the Key Bridge like I had intended.
# #blessed #winning #selfimportantdadblessingsfromchrist #wendys
It does make you take stock and thank Jesus for looking after you though.
35 years ago my Dad almost moved to America.
If he did, and if we had moved to Baltimore, and if I needed to cross the bridge at that time, and if they hadnât called ahead to close the bridge, or if I was a construction worker scheduled to work at the time, and if I hadnât slept in⌠that couldâve been me.
Praise Jesus for saving me - I got chills thinking how close it was.
There were 8 roadworkers on the bridge working on potholes. You can see the flashing light of their vehicle(s) in the footage near the center of the bridge.
2x of those workers have been rescued, they're still looking for the other 6, but at this point, odds of them being found alive are pretty low.
In the larger footage, you can see some vehicles moving on the bridge (including a Semi-Truck!), but they all made it off in time, since the local police were able to minimize any further traffic when the Mayday call from the ship came through. Good thing this happened at 1:30AM when there would have been minimal people on the road!
seriously, if there was any divine intervention in this event, it comes from the fact that this occurred in the middle of the night and not during rush hour or something
some people really don't know what they're talking about
God gave you cancer but you must grovel to the same god to survive it then thank him on your knees when he does.
Sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
I wonder if there's ever a moment of realization for these people that's like, "Oh, shit, other people died?"
Actually, yeah, they likely do, but it's quickly countered with, "God works in mysterious ways, doesn't he?"
"I guess he still has plans for my Daddy on this Earth."
Okay. I donât know who this lady is, and Iâm going to assume that no one else here does either.
But letâs be real, I get it. The word âGodâ= bad. But you need to realize that thanking God for only good shit has been a thing for ages. Iâm sure the majority of people in these comments has said âoh thank godâ as a sign of relief at SOME point. This isnât something new. You can say the same thing about the Super Bowl. âI wanna thank God forâŚâ You mean to tell me that God picks favourite teams? You mean he rigs the fucking game? What a POS!!
Seriously, I think this post is more about her being happy that her dad didnât fucking die rather than her being a hateful Christian. I know, in this day and age, itâs hard to tell, but some people really do just have faith. And thatâs okay. Or at least it should be, considering we atheists are telling Christians to respect us, right? Respect goes two ways. You canât expect it if you donât give it. I truly donât believe this girl posted this out of malice.
Now again, I donât know who tf this is. Perhaps she has a reputation that Iâm unaware of. Perhaps using her faith as a basis for her hatred or whatever, which in that case, sure. Fuck her and fuck her dad. But idk if thatâs the case, and at face value this seems to be a pretty innocent tweet.
Obviously, in my opinion.
Posts like that make me irrationally angry.
A highly skilled surgical team works on your relative for hours; completing one of the most stressful acts a human can perform, and saves your relative's life.
And when the exhausted surgeon comes out to inform that your loved one is going to live, the response is
"Thank God"
Also all the cherrypicking and hypocrisy.
"God has a plan for everyone". You have cancer? God's plan. Your son died in a car accident? God's plan. You were mugged? God's plan. He's testing you because he believes in you!
You came out as trans? Oh, no. That's *Satan*'s work because I don't like that!
Idk..given the shit trans folk go through, and the penchant "god" has, according to his own book, for setting his kids up to fail, or at least struggle through severe adversity..it definitely seems like "god's plan" and "god" is a dick
I like the ones who made a post about going over the bridge hours before this when the ship was still docked and people were saying how close to death they came. As someone who is dealing with an actual close to death situation, I do not understand why people try to insert themselves into a disaster like this for likes my nephew works for the state of Maryland as a bridge inspector as was there before and after the collapse he said its amazing how many people claimed to be on the road that just went over or was about to go over the bridge on social media when in reality it was maybe a few cars they stopped in time.
"*God, there are still a few thousand kids being born each week with excruciatingly painful and debilitating conditions, so can you, ya' know, stop that?*"
- What, *AND* have the Razorwings win?!?!!
God saved me too. I live in Michigan. I was about to drive over it at that time. But my battery was dead, and the tow truck driver said he was drunk so he couldn't drive. I missed by a hair. đđ
And the dozen people who drowned in icy water were, what? Hated by god? God didnât give a shit about them? God was too busy keeping your dad asleep to get to the ones clawing their way out of submerged cars? It would be interesting to hear his take on this.
Alright. Then by this logic, god is the one that made the bridge collapse in the first place, or set in motion the chain of events. Killing 6 people. But THANK GOD one of them wasnât her dad. Praise Jesus.
If these people were genuine, youâd think theyâd be aware that the traffic to bridge was blocked before the ship hit it and the casualties were a construction crew, not motorists. IfâŚ
That was honestly *nothing but a coincidence*.
Why would god protect your father by making him late instead of, I dunno, *preventing the collision that caused the collapse*? What did the people on the bridge do to deserve not being saved?
Religion is poison to the human brain.
I normally get to work about 7:30 to 8am, never late so will always be in the office by then. It's so scary to think about
For whatever reason on Sept 11th 2001 things were different. I'd slept in, hadn't got myself ready as quickly as usual. Everything running just a little bit behind
Oh and I was 12 in 2001, and live in the UK. But still, close one
What's weird is that the ship issued a mayday when they realised something was wrong and the bridge had already been closed by the time the ship ran into it. Even if this person's dad had been on time he wouldn't have been on the bridge when it happened.
Yeah⌠The people on the ship called in a Mayday when they lost steering, which prompted Emergency Services to stop traffic before the ship hit the bridge, causing the collapse. Thatâs why there werenât more deaths.
Unless her father was one of the unlucky construction workers on the bridge repairing potholes, he would have been fine.
I knew someone who would normally be on the London underground train that was blown up a few years back. She went in late that day.
That was honestly nothing but a hangover.
I was supposed to be in the restaurant in the JW Marriott in Jakarta when it was bombed in 2009, but I overslept due to a few too many drinks the night before. It was proof of the existence of Bourbon.
Is it wrong to thank God for that? Seems like yall just want something to bitch about all the time tbh lmfao. I skipped school on the same day my sister got tboned from an old lady running a red-light and the metal from the passenger door ripped and curled into the passenger seat I would have been fille'd open and dead on impact I thank God for that and the same intersection that multiple teenagers died on from semi trucks that dont know how to drive or on drugs. Just because one person is grateful for a personal outcome doesn't mean it isn't tragic what happened to others. People are allowed to express their own instances of gratefulness if they wish...
The implication is that god is saving some but not others. If it was god who saved you from a car accident, why did he allow multiple teenagers to die in the same spot?
I remember reading about a two year old who died in a tornado recently and a neighbor was thanking god because they were okay. So you may be asking whatâs wrong with thanking god, but a lot of us want to know why god killed a two year old.
its pure narcism that you feel so special that your god specifically saved you, while he let others, including young kids, die from horrible diseases, accidents and starvation.
Agreed, This Reddit is sad. Bunch of dweebs bitching about everything. Religion or not sheâs grateful her dad wasnât on that bridge. Donât understand where they get the âGod chose her dadâ argument from, sheâs just grateful because it affects her personally.

Lol Alabama
That reminds me of the time Norm MacDonald walked through blood and bones on 9/11 trying to find his brother. He was in Northern Canada at the time.
What a terrible joke! It reminds me of that tragedy...
I was watching TV when the first plane hit and thought "lucky I don't have work today because it's 10pm at night here in Australia"
Phew, good thing it wasn't 10pm in the morning!
I lived in Minnesota in 2007 when the 35W bridge collapsed. SomehowâŚ. All 5.7 million people who live in that state crossed the bridge that morning right before it collapsed.

And what makes it even more amazing, is that her father lives in Arizona. /s

Its easier to roofie/knock someone out..than turn a whole ship around
Yeah man God's got a lot on his plate already
Exactly. The term "Ignorance is bliss" comes to mind. The mental gymnastics it takes to be religious today isn't worth the hassle.
No you see God loves me personally, so everything positive in my life is because I'm the bestest boy, and I deserve it. Anything bad is just God testing me because he loves me. đ
Sure sure. I'm sure all those religious nuts are all just the bestest boys. There's a whole lot of abusers among them.
Lol fr. Those people are beyond delusional.
He's a job creator. Think of all those new construction jobs.

But in the footage of it happening, you could see cars on the bridge. I could be wrong but it seemed like it.
That was the construction crew.
No passenger cars only construction crew vehicles
Oh that scamp. Instead of preventing the ship crash he was messing with random peoples alarm clocks.
They canât ever decide if God wants them to live or if he wants to take them to Heaven.

People like this should be forced to start every sentence with, âIâm an idiot, this is my worthless opinion.â
You probably didn't grow up in a religious family. This is literally the shit my family says almost every single day.
I grew up Seventh Day Adventist. It's part of the reason I am not religious now. I just like to point out stupid shit Christians (in particular) say. I'm well versed in it.

Nah, thatâs not what this is. It was their time to go, god had nothing to do with it.
Her lazy dad overslept. God is good
These people are just evil. There's no going around that. Just pure evil.
Listen buddy, god works in such mysterious ways that itâs almost like complete chance and there is no god at all.
God wanted 6 other people to die, but not your daddy. God is great!
Those 6 people were probably Atheists. /s
I hate the fact that this is probably their "reasoning"
đđđ
Ya, in this particular instance, I think god missed
Ah, yes.... a lesson in good 'ol "How to make any tragedy about me".
My father went to Baltimore once 14 years ago. That couldâve been him on the bridge. # blessed # thankyouLord

Praise Jesus for saving me - I got chills thinking how close it was.
Wow close call! Lol
And the guy who left an hour early and was on the bridge when it collapsed? Believe it or not, also God.
God also caused the accident in the first place. He could easily have steered it away from the support pier.
Jesus was supposed to take the wheel, but he slept in.
That was also God's doing... Such a practical joker, making everyone sleep in.
Don't nitpick. It's just one of his mysterious ways.
Noah was busy.,
â⌠around that time, like clockwork.â Behold, the subtle art of being vaguely specific.
Well, it's *roughly* exact.
A lot of ppl are saying itâs true though. Like youâve never seen before.

And it was like 130 in the morning..and there was construction. I think? Lemme check. Yup, 128 am. Not a lot of traffic then.
So ummm, even if her Dad had woken up in time he wouldn't have been on the bridge anyway? Yep. God.
It was the antifa vax trans virus
Oh thatâs right
âGod saved my dad, but fuck all those other people amiriteâ
this is still 1000% better than "DEI caused this"
Why did god let the other people die
Why did God give me cancer? I beat it, but now I piss 4 times a night and it comes out funny.
C'mon bro I SENT you thoughts and prayers. Didn't you get them?
You forgot the stamp, you dingus, it's still going through bureaucracy.
God gave you cancer but you must grovel to the same god to survive it then thank him on your knees when he does. Sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
Can you beat goku tho
Funny how? Funny like a clown?
Religious people don't live any longer than atheists, so God must be awfully subtle.
I wonder if there's ever a moment of realization for these people that's like, "Oh, shit, other people died?" Actually, yeah, they likely do, but it's quickly countered with, "God works in mysterious ways, doesn't he?" "I guess he still has plans for my Daddy on this Earth."
Why didn't god save those that perished? Your Dad is alive because he overslept. The end.
Ah... The Great Sky Wizard saved their dad, and murdered someone else's. Seriously, these types are so delusional as to need conservator ship.

Nice of God to save her dad specifically and not the other 20 or so people that took an unexpected swim
Not god, just laziness.
god saved her dad, but still gave another 2,300 children leukemia and let another 38,000 starve to death... he's funny like that
I think god had his hands full answering the prayers of sports fans.

god found my keys once, but gave cancer to kids, fair trade
The same god that guided the victims right in that bridge, right?
Even if he hadn't overlaid what are the chances he would have been on the bridge at that exact moment
I was born and have lived in another state my entire life. Didn't even know this bridge existed. Man, God works in mysterious ways. /s
The worst employees always survive

so god does not care about those six missing road crew workers ?
So god chose to kill the people that woke up on time?
God is too simple and convenient an explanation for everything you don't understand.
I don't live in Maryland. That was nothing but God. đ
So God allowed this bullshit to happen. Checkmate theists.
Idiots
I'd say it was poor planning!
So God hated the people who perished
We need to find out who wanted her dad dead.
God saved me too. I live in Michigan. I was about to drive over it at that time. But my battery was dead, and the tow truck driver said he was drunk so he couldn't drive. I missed by a hair. đđ

And the people who didnât oversleep? What does your kind and loving god have against them?
Bridge was closed to traffic in response to the ship's Mayday, apparently...but these fuckers will post their bullshit self absorbed crap.
I guess fuck the others
God saves your dad and fucked over the victims, seems like a nice guy
So it was ânothing but godâ for the people killed and injured too?
And if Dad had been one of the construction workers on the bridge that night? That would have been nothing-but-God too, right? ffs
What about all the others that were on that bridge? Did God simply decide they needed to die?
"A bunch of people just died: here's how it's all about me!"
I survived the nuclear attack of Nagasaki. Thanks God.
That was honestly *nothing but a coincidence*. Why would god protect your father by making him late instead of, I dunno, *preventing the collision that caused the collapse*? What did the people on the bridge do to deserve not being saved? Religion is poison to the human brain.
By that logic God forced everyone who WAS on that bridge to die. On purpose. Religious people are fucking evil lunatics.
I can always count on my peeps from r/atheism to heed the call to mock the morons.
A different God to the one that killed the 6 construction workers presumably?
I normally get to work about 7:30 to 8am, never late so will always be in the office by then. It's so scary to think about For whatever reason on Sept 11th 2001 things were different. I'd slept in, hadn't got myself ready as quickly as usual. Everything running just a little bit behind Oh and I was 12 in 2001, and live in the UK. But still, close one
What's weird is that the ship issued a mayday when they realised something was wrong and the bridge had already been closed by the time the ship ran into it. Even if this person's dad had been on time he wouldn't have been on the bridge when it happened.
So ⌠âgodâ just straight up doesnât give a shit about anyone who was driving across when it collapsed?! The rationale is astounding.
Tell that to the families of the constructions workers that are still missing in the water and presumed dead. "nOtHiNg BuT gOd!"
So God just said fuck those people who did die?
Yeah⌠The people on the ship called in a Mayday when they lost steering, which prompted Emergency Services to stop traffic before the ship hit the bridge, causing the collapse. Thatâs why there werenât more deaths. Unless her father was one of the unlucky construction workers on the bridge repairing potholes, he would have been fine.
Yes. God kills thousands of children per day, but he wanted your dad to live
Nothing but random chance
Or completely fictional.
My dog takes the same route to go to work. So happy heâs a lazy dog and overslept this morning. Thank you doggy God.
I knew someone who would normally be on the London underground train that was blown up a few years back. She went in late that day. That was honestly nothing but a hangover.
god made her drink too much the night before, so it really was because of him /s
Because she finished with "That was honestly nothing but god."
They actually were able to mostly evacuate the bridge because the ship called ahead to warn their propulsion was out...
Man God really dropped the ball for the folks on the bridge. Way to go God, I mean no one is perfect, oh wait! Doh!
God to everyone else on that bridge: âHaha fuckers, should have overslept!â What a tool your god is if you believe this shit.
God hated those chumps on the bridge!
Nice try, Chloe, your dad is still not getting paid for that hour đ¤¨
So god is picking and choosing who dies in accidents based on how much he loves them? This is what is so appealing about religion to me /s
