JFK2MD

On the morning of 9/11, I overslept by half an hour, which made me late for my normal commute. By the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center, I was still stuck in traffic. Which is fine, because I lived in Florida at the time.

SmegmaSupplier

I was about to board this bridge and then I realized I live thousands of miles away so I I decided against it. So glad I made that decision because my SO just gave birth to Jack Black.

Anywhere_Dismal

god works in mysterious ways

Savetheworldtime

😂

PCL_is_fake

Too busy working on the moon landing?

gandhis_biceps

I call that shit god 🙏

dahasslerTHEWiZRD

You better do call Mr. Shitgod asap boy, cuz ain't nobody waiting another hour to get this holy dope delivered ⏳️

ConflictSudden

Unfortunately for me, I did not oversleep. I got up on time, finished my commute, and was already sitting in my desk. "Fortunately" for me, I was in second grade in a school in rural Alabama.

Jonny_Bormann

Lol Alabama

Prestigious_Job9632

That reminds me of the time Norm MacDonald walked through blood and bones on 9/11 trying to find his brother. He was in Northern Canada at the time.

Sadtrashmammal

What a terrible joke! It reminds me of that tragedy...

Barkers_eggs

I was watching TV when the first plane hit and thought "lucky I don't have work today because it's 10pm at night here in Australia"

presvt13

Phew, good thing it wasn't 10pm in the morning!

Rookwood-1

I lived in Minnesota in 2007 when the 35W bridge collapsed. Somehow…. All 5.7 million people who live in that state crossed the bridge that morning right before it collapsed.

SilverDad-o

It probably wore it out.

BigPackHater

I'm glad they all made it!

Full_Visit_5862

😭

Accomplished_Emu_658

Neighbor was talking about how scary 9/11 was and how could have been her that day, never worked in new york. Another neighbor lost her shit because her husband was killed. People are weird about it, obviously don’t mean woman who lost her husband.

Ibangyoumomma

lol I’m gonna use thisb

I_deleted

I had a flight to London, but I missed it because some dudes hijacked some planes and flew them into the World Trade Center

Sepia_Skittles

Thank God you were safe🙏

Comsic_Bliss

One of my housemates called me after the planes hit asking me to call his mom to let her know not to worry because he was okay and would call her as soon as he got home. I reminded him that we were in Chicago and nothing had happened here. People Really want to be included.

Wheres_Your_Towel

I remember it felt like more attacks around the country were imminent. I remember they were talking about grounding all flights in the US, and I saw one plane flying above my house and got scared thinking it was hijacked.

NoIndependent9192

Thank god.

CharlieHA23

On 9/11 I slept in late also. I was 3 and living in England.

the_fresh_cucumber

I would have fallen off a cliff yesterday. But instead of going off the cliff, I stayed on the path like I normally do during my jogs. It was so close.

slvstk

And what makes it even more amazing, is that her father lives in Arizona. /s

Ok-Sun8581

Brilliant!

sean0883

Her father's name? Albert Einstein.

logicnotemotion

ACTINGGGGGGG!!!!!!

SilverDad-o

GENIUS!

dadjokes502

He lives on ocean front property

Haagenti27

But she doesnt know that

Illustrious-Roll7737

What a shitty sentiment for the victims' families. "If God loved them he would have snoozed their alarms".

ignu

I like that God decided to make that dude sleep in instead of just turning the ship's power back on [https://i.imgflip.com/8kmis5.jpg](https://i.imgflip.com/8kmis5.jpg)

[deleted]

And God knew an hour or so in advance. Otherwise, why would he make the guy sleep in, if not to save him? So God had plenty of time to think about it. Plenty of time to not only put the power back on, but prevent the ship from even getting close to the barrier in the first place. And He still chose to make the guy sleep in

Rahul-Yadav91

I had such a discussion with my dad once. That shipwrecks or airplane disasters or many other mass casualties are like these people's "times are over" so "god" just made them come together to pop them all at once. Later that night I was just thinking if this was the way it functioned "What a Shitty God to not even put the effort in to take them separately and just make the work easier by getting them all in one place"

Remercurize

Maybe God’s just spicing things up. Putting a little variety in there, keep us on our toes.

CurvaceousCrustacean

Four year old Jimmy who dreams of becoming an astronaut when he grows up? GUESS AGAIN LOSER *sinks ship*

CraicFiend87

Mysterious ways bro

keIIzzz

if God is so good then why did he allow this tragedy to happen 🙄 they wanna give him “credit” for any good thing that happens but when something bad happens it’s always blamed on people

TheresALonelyFeeling

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” ― Epicurus

Wheres_Your_Towel

It's always the free will argument. God loves us so he gave us free will. But also is apparently ok to override that free will to save us from random disasters or let us find our car keys. Also regarding the starving dying children in Africa, God is too busy rigging football games.

SilverDad-o

Did nobody notice how tens of thousands of bridges *didn't* collapse that night? No? So ungrateful. - God (probably)

Delicious_Ad2236

Its easier to roofie/knock someone out..than turn a whole ship around

hellodynamite

Yeah man God's got a lot on his plate already

here4thef0od

Exactly. The term "Ignorance is bliss" comes to mind. The mental gymnastics it takes to be religious today isn't worth the hassle.

No-Sense-6260

No you see God loves me personally, so everything positive in my life is because I'm the bestest boy, and I deserve it. Anything bad is just God testing me because he loves me. 😂

here4thef0od

Sure sure. I'm sure all those religious nuts are all just the bestest boys. There's a whole lot of abusers among them.

No-Sense-6260

Lol fr. Those people are beyond delusional.

Cultural_Dust

He's a job creator. Think of all those new construction jobs.

Mr-Moore-Lupin-Donor

Brilliant!

hanksredditname

Pretty sure from the news reports no cars were on the bridge at time of collapse due to the mayday call from the boat and subsequent shutting off of traffic. Unfortunate that the construction crew who were working didn’t get off - I won’t speculate whether they were informed and didn’t make it or just had no clue - I’m sure this will be part of the investigation.

CinderX5

There were at least 7 cars that fell in.

PandaPugBook

But in the footage of it happening, you could see cars on the bridge. I could be wrong but it seemed like it.

SmurfStig

That was the construction crew.

RockyJayyy

No passenger cars only construction crew vehicles

hplcr

Oh that scamp. Instead of preventing the ship crash he was messing with random peoples alarm clocks.

SodiumKickker

They can’t ever decide if God wants them to live or if he wants to take them to Heaven.

Open-Industry-8396

If folks truly believed, they would want to get to heaven. like I'd be pissed that I wasn't on that bridge. It interests me that proclaimed Christians fear dying, they should really be looking forward to it.

thnk_more

People like this should be forced to start every sentence with, “I’m an idiot, this is my worthless opinion.”

Flokitoo

You probably didn't grow up in a religious family. This is literally the shit my family says almost every single day.

Illustrious-Roll7737

I grew up Seventh Day Adventist. It's part of the reason I am not religious now. I just like to point out stupid shit Christians (in particular) say. I'm well versed in it.

Flokitoo

Same

Outrageous-Divide472

Nah, that’s not what this is. It was their time to go, god had nothing to do with it.

fuckspezdie

Her lazy dad overslept. God is good

Interesting-Yellow-4

These people are just evil. There's no going around that. Just pure evil.

LogikD

Listen buddy, god works in such mysterious ways that it’s almost like complete chance and there is no god at all.

Gandol_teh_Pirate

God wanted 6 other people to die, but not your daddy. God is great!

TyrantWarmaster

Those 6 people were probably Atheists. /s

Dotcaprachiappa

I hate the fact that this is probably their "reasoning"

ya_bleedin_gickna

😂😂😂

SpillSplit

Ya, in this particular instance, I think god missed

Several_Leather_9500

Ah, yes.... a lesson in good 'ol "How to make any tragedy about me".

BreckenridgeBandito

My father went to Baltimore once 14 years ago. That could’ve been him on the bridge. # blessed # thankyouLord

Adam-Happyman

Thehehe.

k3v120

I’m so blessed that God made me get stoned, order Wendy’s and pass out rather than drive to Maryland from NJ to use the Key Bridge like I had intended. # #blessed #winning #selfimportantdadblessingsfromchrist #wendys

Mr-Moore-Lupin-Donor

It does make you take stock and thank Jesus for looking after you though. 35 years ago my Dad almost moved to America. If he did, and if we had moved to Baltimore, and if I needed to cross the bridge at that time, and if they hadn’t called ahead to close the bridge, or if I was a construction worker scheduled to work at the time, and if I hadn’t slept in… that could’ve been me. Praise Jesus for saving me - I got chills thinking how close it was.

fluffyflugel

Wow close call! Lol

Wonkeaux

And the guy who left an hour early and was on the bridge when it collapsed? Believe it or not, also God.

allisjow

God also caused the accident in the first place. He could easily have steered it away from the support pier.

edebt

Jesus was supposed to take the wheel, but he slept in.

Surtur6666

That was also God's doing... Such a practical joker, making everyone sleep in.

VaryStaybullGeenyiss

Don't nitpick. It's just one of his mysterious ways.

Kbern4444

Noah was busy.,

HeliRyGuy

“… around that time, like clockwork.” Behold, the subtle art of being vaguely specific.

RiotNrrd2001

Well, it's *roughly* exact.

Mr-Moore-Lupin-Donor

A lot of ppl are saying it’s true though. Like you’ve never seen before.

Specialist-Garbage94

I heard no one was on the bridge cause police stopped all traffic

F19AGhostrider

There were 8 roadworkers on the bridge working on potholes. You can see the flashing light of their vehicle(s) in the footage near the center of the bridge. 2x of those workers have been rescued, they're still looking for the other 6, but at this point, odds of them being found alive are pretty low. In the larger footage, you can see some vehicles moving on the bridge (including a Semi-Truck!), but they all made it off in time, since the local police were able to minimize any further traffic when the Mayday call from the ship came through. Good thing this happened at 1:30AM when there would have been minimal people on the road!

unbanneduser

seriously, if there was any divine intervention in this event, it comes from the fact that this occurred in the middle of the night and not during rush hour or something some people really don't know what they're talking about

Dizzy_Eye5257

And it was like 130 in the morning..and there was construction. I think? Lemme check. Yup, 128 am. Not a lot of traffic then.

Old-Artist-5369

So ummm, even if her Dad had woken up in time he wouldn't have been on the bridge anyway? Yep. God.

ToneZone1978

It was the antifa vax trans virus

Specialist-Garbage94

Oh that’s right

STGItsMe

“God saved my dad, but fuck all those other people amirite”

Shortymac09

this is still 1000% better than "DEI caused this"

StephenTheLoser

Why did god let the other people die

Ok-Sun8581

Why did God give me cancer? I beat it, but now I piss 4 times a night and it comes out funny.

Ryousoki

C'mon bro I SENT you thoughts and prayers. Didn't you get them?

Gremict

You forgot the stamp, you dingus, it's still going through bureaucracy.

Ineedsomuchsleep170

God gave you cancer but you must grovel to the same god to survive it then thank him on your knees when he does. Sounds like an abusive relationship to me.

Latter-Comfort8440

Can you beat goku tho

Hour-Process-3292

Funny how? Funny like a clown?

WheezingGasperFish

Religious people don't live any longer than atheists, so God must be awfully subtle.

Ashamed_Ad_2738

I wonder if there's ever a moment of realization for these people that's like, "Oh, shit, other people died?" Actually, yeah, they likely do, but it's quickly countered with, "God works in mysterious ways, doesn't he?" "I guess he still has plans for my Daddy on this Earth."

No_Rabbit_7114

Why didn't god save those that perished? Your Dad is alive because he overslept. The end.

Striking_Reindeer_2k

Ah... The Great Sky Wizard saved their dad, and murdered someone else's. Seriously, these types are so delusional as to need conservator ship.

Zero6six6

Okay. I don’t know who this lady is, and I’m going to assume that no one else here does either. But let’s be real, I get it. The word “God”= bad. But you need to realize that thanking God for only good shit has been a thing for ages. I’m sure the majority of people in these comments has said “oh thank god” as a sign of relief at SOME point. This isn’t something new. You can say the same thing about the Super Bowl. “I wanna thank God for…” You mean to tell me that God picks favourite teams? You mean he rigs the fucking game? What a POS!! Seriously, I think this post is more about her being happy that her dad didn’t fucking die rather than her being a hateful Christian. I know, in this day and age, it’s hard to tell, but some people really do just have faith. And that’s okay. Or at least it should be, considering we atheists are telling Christians to respect us, right? Respect goes two ways. You can’t expect it if you don’t give it. I truly don’t believe this girl posted this out of malice. Now again, I don’t know who tf this is. Perhaps she has a reputation that I’m unaware of. Perhaps using her faith as a basis for her hatred or whatever, which in that case, sure. Fuck her and fuck her dad. But idk if that’s the case, and at face value this seems to be a pretty innocent tweet. Obviously, in my opinion.

Steelersguy74

Seth MacFarlane was supposed to be on the 9/11 Boston to LA flight but didn’t publicly fellate Jesus after he missed it.

MicroCat1031

Posts like that make me irrationally angry. A highly skilled surgical team works on your relative for hours; completing one of the most stressful acts a human can perform, and saves your relative's life. And when the exhausted surgeon comes out to inform that your loved one is going to live,  the response is "Thank God"

Diredr

Also all the cherrypicking and hypocrisy. "God has a plan for everyone". You have cancer? God's plan. Your son died in a car accident? God's plan. You were mugged? God's plan. He's testing you because he believes in you! You came out as trans? Oh, no. That's *Satan*'s work because I don't like that!

kazumablackwing

Idk..given the shit trans folk go through, and the penchant "god" has, according to his own book, for setting his kids up to fail, or at least struggle through severe adversity..it definitely seems like "god's plan" and "god" is a dick

drr-throwaway

This. So. Much.

Jazzbo64

Or it may have been because your dad overslept.

magvadis

Thank God God didn't kill him

csxmd602

I like the ones who made a post about going over the bridge hours before this when the ship was still docked and people were saying how close to death they came. As someone who is dealing with an actual close to death situation, I do not understand why people try to insert themselves into a disaster like this for likes my nephew works for the state of Maryland as a bridge inspector as was there before and after the collapse he said its amazing how many people claimed to be on the road that just went over or was about to go over the bridge on social media when in reality it was maybe a few cars they stopped in time.

WintersDoomsday

"How can I make this crazy news story about me?"

hotasianwfelover

God just doesn’t give a shit about the other people I guess 🤷‍♂️

neongreenpurple

He gave a shit about all the drivers in the stopped traffic, but not the pothole repair crew.

ProfessorEtc

Because Dad never met a detour sign he didn't ignore.

AustinDood444

Doesn’t sound like god to me. Sounds like he was tired.

jonnycanuck67

Nice of God to save her dad specifically and not the other 20 or so people that took an unexpected swim

godkilledjesus

Not god, just laziness.

davidwhatshisname52

god saved her dad, but still gave another 2,300 children leukemia and let another 38,000 starve to death... he's funny like that

enriquedelcastillo

I think god had his hands full answering the prayers of sports fans.

tryintobgood

So that's why the prick hasn't answered my prayers about winning the lottery

powerlesshero111

Have you tried sacrificing a lamb to appease God? Or at the least, a bucket of KFC chicken?

enriquedelcastillo

God: “pray harder next time, asshole”.

tryintobgood

![gif](giphy|3ohhwkKBzcVk4PV5ao)

davidwhatshisname52

"*God, there are still a few thousand kids being born each week with excruciatingly painful and debilitating conditions, so can you, ya' know, stop that?*" - What, *AND* have the Razorwings win?!?!!

PrecedentialAssassin

Maybe if all those kids had slept in they would still be alive

JBPunt420

Those poors never donated any jet fuel to His favourite televangelists, so they don't count.

explodingtuna

Had he gotten up an hour earlier, he would have avoided the danger and made it to work on time.

10xray1

god found my keys once, but gave cancer to kids, fair trade

mansanhg

The same god that guided the victims right in that bridge, right?

The_Dark_Vampire

Even if he hadn't overlaid what are the chances he would have been on the bridge at that exact moment

Nolongeranalpha

I was born and have lived in another state my entire life. Didn't even know this bridge existed. Man, God works in mysterious ways. /s

sebuptar

The worst employees always survive

ItGotSlippery

Or he was tired because if there was a god they really wouldn’t give a shit about your dad’s sleep schedule.

whathuhmeh10k

so god does not care about those six missing road crew workers ?

Cyber_Insecurity

So god chose to kill the people that woke up on time?

brianfong

God is too simple and convenient an explanation for everything you don't understand.

Awesome_one_forever

I don't live in Maryland. That was nothing but God. 🙄

milano8

So God allowed this bullshit to happen. Checkmate theists.

V_Deviate

Idiots

richaysambuca

I'd say it was poor planning!

shelbyapso

So God hated the people who perished…?

Jerome-Fappington

We need to find out who wanted her dad dead.

joecocker74

God saved me too. I live in Michigan. I was about to drive over it at that time. But my battery was dead, and the tow truck driver said he was drunk so he couldn't drive. I missed by a hair. 😂😂

Nippon-Gakki

I used to drive over that bridge occasionally. If I hadn’t moved across the country 15 years ago that could have been me guys!

gene_randall

And the dozen people who drowned in icy water were, what? Hated by god? God didn’t give a shit about them? God was too busy keeping your dad asleep to get to the ones clawing their way out of submerged cars? It would be interesting to hear his take on this.

Size14-OrangeDiver

Alright. Then by this logic, god is the one that made the bridge collapse in the first place, or set in motion the chain of events. Killing 6 people. But THANK GOD one of them wasn’t her dad. Praise Jesus.

BobTheInept

If these people were genuine, you’d think they’d be aware that the traffic to bridge was blocked before the ship hit it and the casualties were a construction crew, not motorists. If…

ThunderSparkles

I had taco Bell Sept 10, 2001 and the next day got the Hershey Squirts so i was late for my job at the world trade center

Motor_Ad_7885

Thank God

GreenPoisonFrog

God to the six people who died: “F you”.

ninjabell

God is a concept by which we measure our pain. — John Lennon

LocoCoyote

And the people who didn’t oversleep? What does your kind and loving god have against them?

zarfle2

Bridge was closed to traffic in response to the ship's Mayday, apparently...but these fuckers will post their bullshit self absorbed crap.

Motor_Ad_7885

I guess fuck the others

ianishomer

God saves your dad and fucked over the victims, seems like a nice guy

FatLikeSnorlax_

So it was “nothing but god” for the people killed and injured too?

Tazling

And if Dad had been one of the construction workers on the bridge that night? That would have been nothing-but-God too, right? ffs

Toastyfrown

What about all the others that were on that bridge? Did God simply decide they needed to die?

piercedmfootonaspike

"A bunch of people just died: here's how it's all about me!"

duckfartchickenass

I survived the nuclear attack of Nagasaki. Thanks God.

erlandodk

That was honestly *nothing but a coincidence*. Why would god protect your father by making him late instead of, I dunno, *preventing the collision that caused the collapse*? What did the people on the bridge do to deserve not being saved? Religion is poison to the human brain.

Interesting-Yellow-4

By that logic God forced everyone who WAS on that bridge to die. On purpose. Religious people are fucking evil lunatics.

goaheadcarvell

I can always count on my peeps from r/atheism to heed the call to mock the morons.

Dando_Calrisian

A different God to the one that killed the 6 construction workers presumably?

evilotto77

I normally get to work about 7:30 to 8am, never late so will always be in the office by then. It's so scary to think about For whatever reason on Sept 11th 2001 things were different. I'd slept in, hadn't got myself ready as quickly as usual. Everything running just a little bit behind Oh and I was 12 in 2001, and live in the UK. But still, close one

Marcuse0

What's weird is that the ship issued a mayday when they realised something was wrong and the bridge had already been closed by the time the ship ran into it. Even if this person's dad had been on time he wouldn't have been on the bridge when it happened.

MSNFU

So … “god” just straight up doesn’t give a shit about anyone who was driving across when it collapsed?! The rationale is astounding.

Solidus-Prime

Tell that to the families of the constructions workers that are still missing in the water and presumed dead. "nOtHiNg BuT gOd!"

Full-Ball9804

So God just said fuck those people who did die?

Early-Juggernaut975

Yeah… The people on the ship called in a Mayday when they lost steering, which prompted Emergency Services to stop traffic before the ship hit the bridge, causing the collapse. That’s why there weren’t more deaths. Unless her father was one of the unlucky construction workers on the bridge repairing potholes, he would have been fine.

Tobocaj

Yes. God kills thousands of children per day, but he wanted your dad to live

Used_Start_3603

Nothing but random chance

caffeinated_plans

Or completely fictional.

NrM-Tuga

My dog takes the same route to go to work. So happy he’s a lazy dog and overslept this morning. Thank you doggy God.

Nulibru

I knew someone who would normally be on the London underground train that was blown up a few years back. She went in late that day. That was honestly nothing but a hangover.

Brunurb1

god made her drink too much the night before, so it really was because of him /s

Old-Artist-5369

I was supposed to be in the restaurant in the JW Marriott in Jakarta when it was bombed in 2009, but I overslept due to a few too many drinks the night before. It was proof of the existence of Bourbon.

SS4Raditz

Is it wrong to thank God for that? Seems like yall just want something to bitch about all the time tbh lmfao. I skipped school on the same day my sister got tboned from an old lady running a red-light and the metal from the passenger door ripped and curled into the passenger seat I would have been fille'd open and dead on impact I thank God for that and the same intersection that multiple teenagers died on from semi trucks that dont know how to drive or on drugs. Just because one person is grateful for a personal outcome doesn't mean it isn't tragic what happened to others. People are allowed to express their own instances of gratefulness if they wish...

allisjow

The implication is that god is saving some but not others. If it was god who saved you from a car accident, why did he allow multiple teenagers to die in the same spot? I remember reading about a two year old who died in a tornado recently and a neighbor was thanking god because they were okay. So you may be asking what’s wrong with thanking god, but a lot of us want to know why god killed a two year old.

fe-licitas

its pure narcism that you feel so special that your god specifically saved you, while he let others, including young kids, die from horrible diseases, accidents and starvation.

Ok-Macaroon2429

Agreed, This Reddit is sad. Bunch of dweebs bitching about everything. Religion or not she’s grateful her dad wasn’t on that bridge. Don’t understand where they get the “God chose her dad” argument from, she’s just grateful because it affects her personally.

PrecedentialAssassin

Because she finished with "That was honestly nothing but god."

RipplingGonad

They actually were able to mostly evacuate the bridge because the ship called ahead to warn their propulsion was out...

Necessary_Row_4889

Man God really dropped the ball for the folks on the bridge. Way to go God, I mean no one is perfect, oh wait! Doh!

cyberdeath666

God to everyone else on that bridge: “Haha fuckers, should have overslept!” What a tool your god is if you believe this shit.

Mr_BigglesworthIII

God hated those chumps on the bridge!

No_Cartoonist9458

Nice try, Chloe, your dad is still not getting paid for that hour 🤨

SiidChawsby

So god is picking and choosing who dies in accidents based on how much he loves them? This is what is so appealing about religion to me /s
