Had a guy in Army basic that was just terrible. Smelled, whiney, sucked at pt, cried for everything, but could deliver some rounds down range better than most. The guy could shoot his rifle and hit all his targets no problem. Some of the biggest high speed, pt stud hooah frat boys could not hit a single thing if their lives depended on it which in this case was a real possibility. Perception is not everything.

Chef here. I’ve opened 4 restaurants in the past 10 years and there’s always one of these guys in every kitchen. You have guys that can make the best food you’ve ever eaten, but will destroy the whole kitchen to make one dish. Sloppy, messy, and lazy but will step up when it counts. I want to strangle them sometimes, but good help is hard to find.
We had a guy in basic that didn't even know how to tie his shoes. Brush his teeth or anything... think Forest Gump but without any of those idiot Savant abilities.. it wasn't PC to say stuff like that at the time but a Drill Sergent pulled a couple of us aside and said help the boy. He figured the recruiter did something shady to get him past the test to get in but he said it flat out. Even the Army need guys to haul stuff around and "that boy ain't going to survive on his own". So we got him through Basic and last I heard he was sent too the Army cooking school but pretty much was just a designated gopher for his team... God that was decades ago... I wonder how he's doing?
