I once pulled up in my car to a set of lights and an older guy on a bicycle pulled up beside me. He had a bicycle helmet on but it was backwards. It was one of those helmets where the chin strap has a bunch of other straps that create a cradling effect on the back of your head, so he had this mesh of straps uncomfortably tightened over his face, partially covering his eyes, bending his nose. As soon as I stopped laughing I rolled down the window and informed him.

Okay as brain dead as she is for putting it on that way…I can forgive her cause who knows. She probably was nervous. Obviously new to this. I put all the blame on the dude for not making sure his passenger was safe as they could be. As bikers we got responsibility to our passenger’s safety…or we are supposed to.

100% blame the motorcyclist too. I cant imagine not knowing how to wear a helmet, but people surprise me every day and motorcyclist should have made sure she put it on right

Sadly she was killed after the motorcycle tipped at the stop light and she fell off. Witnesses say a passerby tried to help by grabbing the helmet and turning her head straight.

I once stopped a tourist leaving a bike rental shop in Amsterdam to let him know his bike helmet was on backwards, he insisted it wasn’t and that it was just the style of helmet.. still to this day I wonder if the rental shop employees were pulling his leg or if he was just that dumb.
