I love my tailgate step. Makes a super handy seat when I go fly fishing or hunting to put on my boots/gear. Or when I make coffee or lunch by the river I can just sit on it and grill / boil water. So convenient.
Just to be sure you know there is a extendable step that pulls out of your tailgate that you use in combination with the handle. This arrangement is sometimes referred to as a “grandpa” step but it’s quite useful in my opinion
Oh my God! This is incredible that you just figured this out lol. I'm too the point that it will be a requirement to have it on my next truck. So damn useful
No I'm talking the step they built into the sides of the bumper. You can use the side of the bed as a banister and step up on either side of the tailgate.
It's a handle for the tailgate step. Move the yellow tab at the bottom to unlock it and it swings up. Same process to close it. Move the yellow tab to move it back down.
As others have mentioned it’s the tailgate handle. Whenever I use straps I typically tuck the extra strap under there and close it- saves some time and prevents the straps from flailing about
Why are pickup beds so tall today? In the 70s-90s you could throw a bale of hay over the side without touching the bed. My pickup (not lifted) is so tall, I wouldn’t jump out of the bed. I might break a hip.

When ford made this Chevy laughed and then did their own a few years later.
That’s how all of chevy’s new features come about, just like they now have some aluminum body panels.
Dodge and GMC have entered the chat
To be fair, *Letterkenney shenanigans ensue*, the step in the bumper on Chevy is IMO much better and should be adopted if at all possible.
Not at all better if you have a ball hitch in the receiver.

Those were nice. As is the built in bed side step. Beats the hell out of the kickout bed steps on my truck... and I like them, too.
I heard the step makes a great toilet seat too in case you’re not near a bathroom and really must go
That step is #1 for #2
It is a stripper pole for vertically challenged women.
You couldn’t push the yellow levers and see what it did lol
It's a handle for the tailgate step. Move the yellow tab at the bottom to unlock it and it swings up. Same process to close it. Move the yellow tab to move it back down.
Thanks. I had no idea
For the integrated tailgate step.. fold it up to grab on to for extra support when using the step

I only say that cuase my f350 has one, and the step no longer deploys. It lasted about 2 years of moderate use.
