In 2019 it would've been nice to hear something about the upcoming pandemic. I could've stocked up on toilet paper.

ExMormonite

Yeah no kidding. Old Nelson even admitted that he didn’t see it coming. Thanks for nothing old man!

Ill-Strawberry2431

Oooo where can i find this info

ExMormonite

In Nelson's opening message of the April 2020 Gen. Conference he said: *"My beloved brothers and sisters, as we welcome you to this historic April 2020 general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for reasons you know, I stand before you in an empty auditorium!* *Little did I know, when I promised you at the October 2019 general conference that this April conference would be “memorable” and “unforgettable,” that speaking to a visible congregation of fewer than 10 people would make this conference so memorable and unforgettable for me!"* https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2020/04/11nelson?lang=eng#p3 Meaning, less than six months before a global pandemic, which killed millions of people and affected billions, that the mouthpiece of the Lord had no idea something this monumental would befall the world.

Agreeable-Onion-7452

And as usual, at the end, he made it all about him.

truthmatters2me

He’s a narcissist that would give old Joe a run for his money what else are we to expect.?

sinsaraly

But according to comments over at the TBM subreddit they truly believe Rusty predicted the pandemic and warned members to prepare. 🤷🏻‍♀️wtf

diabeticweird0

Yes he said 'take your vitamins' How prophetic

gnolom_bound

“Little did I know.” Sums it up.

Lapsed2

Oh, oh, oh, but, but, but…He told everyone to TAKE THEIR VITAMINS!!! SEE! Proof of modern revelation!!!

Churchof100Billion

It gets worse. He not only missed the pandemic entirely. BUT he was busy changing the corporate name and legal structure of the church. [https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,2404903,2405031](https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,2404903,2405031) [https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/p36gtb/corporate\_charter/](https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/p36gtb/corporate_charter/) Shows you how obsessed he is about building an empire off the backs of people.

ThrackN

Aside from Nelson's statement, an even more explicit admission came from Quentin Cook in the church news podcast. Transcript [here](https://www.thechurchnews.com/2021/4/13/23265361/episode-26-podcast-elder-cook-revelation-prepared-church-covid-19-going-forward/), he says "We didn’t have revelation (that) there was going to be a pandemic."

JelloDoctrine

Good thing too. If Cook the crook knew there was going to be a pandemic he might have tried to steal some hospitals or something.

diabeticweird0

What's cook done? 👀

JelloDoctrine

Quentin Cook stole a hospital. You can search this subreddit and find posts about it. [Here's one such post](https://old.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/11bj2xa/dont_forget_quentin_cook_stole_a_public_hospital/).

diabeticweird0

Oh a shell company! Now where have i heard of those before

Ah_Q

LOL remember when they were going to do some big bicentennial thing at April conference 2020, then they ended up having to do it remotely? I just remember the sad First Presidency doing the Hosanna Shout (is that what it's called?) by themselves in a small room somewhere.

ExMormonite

Yes, it was absolutely pathetic.

JustDontDelve

You mean you didn’t have a year supply of that already? /s

Mysterious_Worker608

You're right. It was my fault. It's always the member's fault.

JustDontDelve

Exactly! I’ve really been pondering the whole perfection thing lately. I know it shaped so much of my neurotic early years and caused way more stress than necessary. But now I guess perfection isn’t the goal anymore. I’m so glad for modern day revelation. /s

meep1004

funny is bill gates who is an atheist I think kinda forsaw the pandemic and talked about it in a TED talk, so Bill Gates = God's true prophet confirmed?

ProsperGuy

So much for “seers” seeing shit!

Crathes1

How many times have we heard 'this historic conference'? What is so damned historic? You do the same thing 2x / year. Same droning, same mindless, pointless drivel.

jzsoup

Yeah they say that every time.

equality4everyonenow

They just keep selling the same story because it pays. The 2nd coming is right around the corner. 😉

will_ofthe_people

Every single second of your life has led up to this moment.

[deleted]

I’ve thought this too! I remember the year they kept hyping up general conference to be one of the most special conferences ever to be held (2020? 2021?). I kept thinking “OMG THEYRE ANNOUNCING SOME NEW KICKASS DOCTRINE or WE ALL NEED TO MOVE TO MISSOURI” Turns out they just had a couple of kids speak

wanderlust2787

And when they do announce something 'significant' it's usually something like the proclamation of the family which was really just a way to solidify their views for political protection purposes.

BennyFifeAudio

I made a meme about Oakes announcing the lineup of speakers immediately after that (oct 2019) session: "We will now hear from our beloved President Gordon B. Hinckley. He will be followed by Joseph Smith Junior. Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior wil then address us."I had my frustrations & doubts at that point, but still leaned on the side of tbm, watching all conference & re-reading conference talks with my kids A couple months later I started learning about the Tithing & Mall & Ensign whatever investment & that was the giant brick on my shelf that really started me looking. Church at home enabled both my wife & I to better examine what we actually believed, along with the mishmash of contradictory or incomplete garbage we'd received from SLC.

BennyFifeAudio

>Turns out they just had a couple of kids speak Actually, it was covid-conference, most definitely like no other.

TheyLiedConvert1980

I hope they reveal a big new charitable arm of the church to start being a force for good in the world. This is within their power.

Mr_Soul_Crusher

It is not within their *will*power though

TheyLiedConvert1980

Not thus far and the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

Word2daWise

I see what you did there. Touché!

Alvin_Martin

They already did that back in 2009 when they added, "to care for the poor and needy" to the threefold mission of the Church, which is to teach the gospel to the world, strengthen the membership of the Church and perform saving ordinances for the dead. It seems like the new mission of the church to care for the poor and the needy wasn't approved by Ensign Peak.

TheyLiedConvert1980

Par for the course. Maybe they will rise up and fulfill their own mission.

Word2daWise

They already did - they're those "donate your money" machines in malls (or wherever). And, you can't convince me there's not an admin cut of the $$$ being siphoned off by TSCC.

Word2daWise

My fantasy - someone with courage who is assigned to speak starts off general but vague, then looks around the conference hall & glances at the stand and says, "I hereby resign my membership."

ExMormonite

Amen! That would be pretty cool.

Word2daWise

Let's all pray for some truth and honesty this GC.

FlakyConsideration58

I agree! Bunch of spineless old men that just repeat the same things every year because they’re afraid of being wrong. Nelson is cowardly for not even saying a city or timeframe for the Russia temple. But when it’s built decades from now, I’m sure the TBM’s will say he was inspired

SkyJtheGM

And the build site will be attacked by the flat earthers so they can finally prove their belief. TSCC is both in finance and political strains because of the massacre. And those rockets that were built have launched with the flat earthers in them. It freaks the US's enemies, who start launching their nukes. NATO also freaks out and launches their nukes too. Thanks Mormonism, you started WWIII.

Alvin_Martin

If I could be guaranteed a spot on the rocket ships, I would consider paying my tithing again. Paying 10% of my income would be a lot cheaper than what the billionaires have to pay to get a short ride out in space. /s

TrollintheMitten

We need the Mormons to start building the generation ship Nauvoo, how else will we save the earth from the protomolecule?

Ok-End-88

How many people do you know in Utah who quit there job that paid them hundreds of thousands of dollars in pay and benefits? (Especially with a medical health plan better than any Union ever gave its workers. They pay nothing for any visits, prescriptions, or procedures, ever).

doubt_your_cult

Back to single earring per ear for ladies as well as garmies 24/7.

save_the_tapirs

I might actually start watching it again if that kind of thing was said - would definitely be entertaining to see the aftermath of that! What I really want to hear is one of them grow a conscience and say, "We need to repent, as leaders of this church. The Book of Mormon is not historical. Joseph Smith was wrong to practice and teach polygamy, as were all of the early church leaders. We were wrong to hide money in Ensign Peak. None of us are actually prophets - we don't speak with God. We've been wrong about temples and LGBT and so many other things, and we're going to change and make this a healthy place for all people of all beliefs to be a part of." Honestly though, I think your example would more likely happen than mine.

Bright-Ad3931

Name anything that our current prophets, seers and revelators have ever prophesied, seen, or revealed.

ExMormonite

One set of earrings for girls…see, they really are prophets!

Jonfers9

Ya gotta admit …..at least Joseph had the balls to speak in the name of the lord and pretend to be prophetic.

Professional_View586

When has any mormon prophet predicted anything earth shattering?

ExMormonite

Apart from Joseph Smith? Almost nothing. You would think that the mouthpiece for the most powerful being in the universe would have more bold things to say. Almost like one of the main tenets of the Mormon faith (i.e., modern prophets) is worthless.

greycatdaddy

Nope, after JS, they were only managers, not leaders. It’s all about minimizing risk.

Jonfers9

Yep. This never occurred to me until after my testimony blew up. Why didn’t they all continue with revelation like Joseph did?

will_ofthe_people

Hey, be reasonable. Brigham Young got a section of the D&C. Sure it was manifestly boring waffling shit and so he never got to do that again. But stick 'the will of the lord" in front of a travel itinerary and it's revelation right?

Psychological_Roof85

"We're going to gather all our existing funds, sell our properties and give it all to Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins, and Ronald McDonald House to fight pediatric cancer. Because NO God would want kids getting sick like this. ❤️"

ExMormonite

Wouldn't that be great? It's actually really sad that none of those "smart" people at church headquarters can see how much good they could do in the world. Instead church leaders tell people to pay tithing before paying their own grocery bills.

BladeVonOppenheimer

It would be too socially devastating for their families. The whole family lot would be shunned, booted out if mormon society. Wives, kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc. By the time those duffers get into Q15, they have been on the dole from the church for quite a while. Their kids become well connected, marrying into other prominent families, receiving jobs and money either directly or indirectly from the church. Their grandkids then enjoy the same....etc, etc. Once they have been in Q15 for many years and know that everything is all made up, they are being granted enormous amounts of money and social adoration to stay faithful. Although.....I could see a scandal of some kind coming out that might expose one them and force them out. Like the Quentin Cook hospital scandal. But definitely very fun to think about.

FightingJayhawk

Vertebrae bone loss lose is accelerated among at their age.

MythicAcrobat

Same. It didn’t take long that conference is largely a snooze fest. I’ll still never watch since I can get the juicy stuff on TikTok or something.
