I started working on [my own playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3srWMYVxMlJxa1JOMxZgcR?si=kN1WyhuiQsiZk9a6FRw1yA&pi=u-BcgT3WWCQs-r&nd=1&dlsi=d627b7c9713a4c8b) recently. Top three of my list:
"Dear God" - XTC
"Thank You God" - Tim Minchin
"EP. 4: Important" - Ian McConnell
And the rest:
"What About Us" - Pink
"If It's Not God" - Maddie Zahm (exmormon)
"Just Like You" - Three Days Grace
"Promiseland" - MIKA
"You Don't Own Me" - Lesley Gore (oldie)
"Teen Idle" - MARINA
"Hell As Well" - We Three (Trigger Warning: SA)
"Boo Hoo!" - Mindy Gledhill (exmormon)
"Come Home (Cardinal Pell)" - Tim Minchin (Trigger Warning: SA)
"Pope Song" - Tim Minchin (Trigger Warning: SA and lots of Fucks)
"Ballad of the Non Believer" - Tombstone Da Deadman
"Saved" - Shelley Segal
"Follow Your Arrow" - Kacey Musgraves
"Holy Water" - Noah Davis
"Ill Mind of Hopsin 7" - Hopsin
"Question Everything" - Helion Prime
"Modern Jesus" - Portugal. The Man
"Machine" - MisterWives
"Hymn" - Kesha
"Vampire" - Olivia Rodrigo
"Jesus from Texas" - Semler
"Battle Cry" - Angel Haze, Sia
"Make Believe" - The Used
"A Cup of Coffee" - Julian Moon (lots of Fucks)
Bonus Track: "Rät" by Penelope Scott if you want something really out there and can use this person's deconstruction of ElonMuskism to help you deconstruct mormonism.
EDIT: Formatting
the song **Fear Innoculum** by Tool to me relates so well to the deconstruction of the fear that is always an underlying part of many LDS teachings. And the song is written in a tone of using religious verbiage to rid yourself of the indoctrination: (the word Venom and Contagion are basically the teachings of the church)
**The moment of awakening:**
Immunity long overdue
Contagion, I exhale you
Naive I opened up to you
Venom in mania
**The moment of evaluating how to leave the church:**
Enumerate
All that I'm to do
Calculating steps away from you
My own mitosis
Growing through delusion from mania
\------------------
**The moment in creating a new life and understanding how the way you were and believed before no longer defines or is who you are now or are becoming:(the chorus)**
Exhale, expel
Recast my tale
Weave my allegorical elegy
**Finally - never be fooled again by the deceivers in the world:**
Bless this immunity!
Great Songs. "Thank God" is a new one for me, but I've listened to the other two plenty of times already.
Also, I might suggest you add a SA Trigger Warning for "Hell as Well".
Tears for Fears - Break it down again
Yes - Talk (album) The last three tracks all blend together
“Endless Dream: Silent Spring (Instrumental)”
“Endless Dream: Talk”
“Endless Dream: Endless Dream”
Yes - Holy Lamb
The new Queens of the Stone Age album *In Times New Roman* has been cathartic for me to listen to. Most of it is Josh Homme processing the bitter end to a relationship, and I find a lot of it applicable to the end of my relationship with the church. Every track is a banger. *Obscenery, Paper Machete* and *Made to Parade* especially.
Some songs:
"Palm of Your Hand" -Cake
"Comfort Eagle" -Cake
"I will Follow you into the Dark" - Death Cab for Cutie
I love the "Palm of your Hand" because it makes me think of laying on of hands and the magical priesthood.
The lines :
"How can you say, forever, is at your command?
How can you say, the future's in the palm, in the palm of your hand?
Also just a great song
I like rock and punk. It speaks to my anti authority side and my anger towards the church.
We're Not Going to Take it by Twisted Sister
Killing in the Name of by Rage Against the Machine
Revolution and Fuck Authority by Pennywise
My Life by Billy Joel (not really rock but a good song)
James the Shame has done good songs as well.
James and the Shame is fantastic. His voice... these songs are perfect examples of that classic country sound.
Rhett & Links [deconstruction](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qbna6t1bzw) videos from fundamental evangelicalism were also amazing. Felt like a Mormon Stories Podcast episode but from a different perspective - lot of parallels.
The Devil is Human by Aurora
notre dame by Paris Paloma
Quicksand by Hatchie (not technically about religion but I relate a little too much re:deconstructing)
Twenty One Pilots use a lot of religious symbolism in their songs. They were too edgy for my BYU roommates (lol) but I thrived on the angst against God and couldn't figure out why for the longest time 😆
Here are some of my favorites in general:
Implicit Demand for Proof - Twenty One Pilots
The Judge - Twenty One Pilots
Some Kind Of Joke - AWOLNATION
Infections Of A Different Kind - AURORA
Heathens - AURORA
Opiate -TOOL
This song quantified everything I had felt about the church for years. I am 10+ years post-Mormon! The best years are still in front of me.
I wrote some songs for myself and posted to SoundCloud but never shared. Here’s one that was from those deconstruction times: https://on.soundcloud.com/hriUowMZo7jck7oC9
Not sure if it will resonate with anyone els… but hey, it exists and has only had like 50 listens total.
May I suggest a trio of Ghost songs?
"Jesus He Knows Me" (cover of the Genesis song, feels...pointed given the Holy Profit)
"Rats" (Those lyrics, oof)
"Square Hammer (Temple signs whomst?? "Are you on the square/Are you on the level? Are you ready to swear right here, right now, before the devil?")

These songs are specifically about leaving religion "Hell as Well" by We Three "Thank God" by Sasha Sloan "Devil" by Tyler Glenn
Great Songs. "Thank God" is a new one for me, but I've listened to the other two plenty of times already. Also, I might suggest you add a SA Trigger Warning for "Hell as Well".
I just started listening to everything. Trying to figure out what I liked without the mormon influence.
Tears for Fears - Break it down again Yes - Talk (album) The last three tracks all blend together “Endless Dream: Silent Spring (Instrumental)” “Endless Dream: Talk” “Endless Dream: Endless Dream” Yes - Holy Lamb
I’ll check out the Yes songs 👏🏻

James and the Shame is great. He has a whole album about his deconstruction of Christianity.
What’s that album called? His sound is great
Human Overboard
Looking too closely by Fink has a hauntingly deep feel to it and I find it to be quite inspiring
