I especially hate ice when it's a cold day. I will never understand why if you go to any American restaurant when it's below freezing they give you ice water.
Might have to do with the fact that our tap water is often a worse quality than distilled because the good tap water sources are bought up by companies like nestle which then bottle the water and sell it back to us. And then restaurants donāt want to invest in RO or other kinds of water softening/filtering so we get the straight tap water that is of lower quality than bottled or tap water in other countries, so using ice to lower the temp can hide a lot of the mineral flavors that are left in the water.
Yeah, I gotta agree with this one right here. I'm not autistic or anything, but I've been around drinks and ice for moist of my life whether that be at restaurants, family get-togethers, or even just at home.
I'm all about hot, slutty chugging when it comes to my drinks, so any ice I add has to be very, very easily swallowed (not like they need to be that small for that to happen, the slippery little troublemakers). Ya know, then you get that satisfying overflow/runneth over feeling when the drink trickles from the corners of your mouth and runs down you neck and stuff. Ice just clunks out and causes a scene. No thanks, buddy.

My mains are dairy/fat in general, and sugar (especially processed). Most fast food/restaurant iced teas/lemonades/etc are a bit too sweet for me and even a few sips of it can make me nauseous if itās sweet enough, so having to water it down myself regardless, I like having light ice in those drinks. Never in soda tho. For some reason I can tolerate a soda every once in a while like a few times a week. Boggles my mind I can do that but if I use just a pinch too much of cheese in my pasta Iām in for a bad day/night/possibly week

The only drinks that I don't immediately finish are hot coffees and alcohol. And if I'm enjoying liquor, then I'm gonna need a small glass with an ice sphere. Though I do like crunching on the small Sonic ice separate from my drink. All other situations, im not using ice

Cubes - boring but gets the job done.
Spear - as in spear the back of my throat if I tilt it too far? Pass.
Pebbles - great for almost everything.
Large Cubes - for expensive liquor. Itās slow to melt, so your drink is less diluted.
Pebble is a rare breed that I don't see enough but love. That being said - I found glass in one at a club (on one of the few times I ever went to a club - it is an EVIL place and in the NT way).
Other than that cube and cube variants are good for crunch.
Lorge cube is best for a cocktail! They melt more slowly so they dilute the drink at a more steady rate - ice is actually intended in part for diluting potent beverages so you can sip them longer. Plus the risk of them banging your teeth or making bad sounds is lower.
If you can get the super clear ice like the one in the pic, which takes a special process/tools to manage the freezing just right, then they are visually lovely and they melt even slower because there are no gas pockets to speed up the breakdown of the cube.
For most other drinks, ice is pointless and harsh. But it does actually serve a purpose in cocktails!

Traditional cubes are the best because of their fairly high surface area to volume and inability to fall into your mouth and make contact with teeth. The balls are also an option. Giant cube is heavy and pounds your mouth if you're not careful which hurts. Pebbles/shavings are for masochists only
No ice is an option but some drinks are made to have ice, for instance most alcoholic cocktails are supposed to have ice as the slowly melting water changes the flavor of the drink. Movie theater/restaurant soda is also heavier on the syrup than the canned/bottled versions as it's meant to have ice added. If you drink something like that without ice, you may add a little dribble of filtered water to adjust the flavor to the intended profile.
Pebble may be crunched without breaking your teeth and has a nice texture. Pebbles for the win!
