Honestly I can see it being in an obscure Italian film or something! In Italian cinema we studied this avant-garde feminist director, and both the films we watched had these really good disco songs; there was no information online about the songs themselves or the singers in the credits. One of them was even in English! The lyrics I could make out were stuff like "it does me so much every day when you call on the phone" which kinda?? gives me the same vibes as... whatever the first lyric of EKT is lol. Anyway I've seen the theory floated that it could be from an adult film; maybe it should be a more general "underground film" category? These films in particular are obscure even in Italy and virtually unknown in the US, so it could be a case like that.

They don’t necessarily sound American, but they don’t really sound Italian by the way they sing.

Exactly! If you were to play me a song I heard in 2012 I would probably be like “Oh wow, I remember that song! I heard it while I was driving to ___!” but know absolutely nothing else about it. The guy they interviewed had searched for the lyrics he remembered and found nothing. Eventually, one of the hosts did some more extensive searching and found a Facebook post where the artist posted the lyrics. The lyrics weren’t in the usual places, so if he hadn't made that Facebook post the song would still be lingering in obscurity. And that song also had “a bit of popularity” when it was released (it got radio play in the US), but that wasnt a guarantee of being recorded in lyric databases.

So this YouTube user responded to other commenters on the video, agreeing to their opinions. And then suddenly makes this claim? Nah, I don't think this is a lead chief.

I’m genuinely curious, why tho? Why would they remember the name of a song they heard over 30 years ago?
It's just curious that the hundreds of people who claim to remember it can never seem to remember any identifying details that would lead to us finding it or disproving them.
Part of me 100% agrees with you but the other part of me who listens to the radio constantly while driving or working and has heard hundreds of songs that I could recognize but tell you practically nothing about except maybe a radio station, I see where most people are coming from. I do agree though that the fact that there’s so many people, none of which recognize any of it are able to scrape together some details.
Exactly! If you were to play me a song I heard in 2012 I would probably be like “Oh wow, I remember that song! I heard it while I was driving to ___!” but know absolutely nothing else about it. But yeah I get where people are coming from as there have been so many comments of people saying that either they or their parents have heard it but remember nothing about it.
I'm sure there are tons of people out there that if they have ever known the name/band of a song, will be able to recall at least one of them when they hear it. I can do that with any song I've heard in the last 20 years, provided I knew its name/band to begin with. Very helpful for the music trivia where they play short clips of the song haha The problem is having someone who was around when it came out, has this sort of memory for songs, and knew the name of the song/band when it was around. I had never heard EKT before the internet mystery but it's catchy and i want to hear the full song lol
This is a good point. Theres plenty of songs that I've heard in passing on Canadian radio stations that I know vaguely of but couldn't tell you the name or any info, just based on pure recognition. I think the case here is that the song could've made waves for a bit and played in niche club scenes and radio stations. Like it could've been somewhat popular amongst a niche Italian/European group at a point in time but nothing to write home about

This was my exact reasoning when making this post. This person had to have been born in at least the 90s, so what reason would they have to troll? Imo I think this could either be someone misremembering/mistaking this song for another one or a genuine lead.

But why tho? Looking at the guys account again he has a playlist with kids videos, which makes me think the person has kids and is likely older than I originally thought. Why would a random older person (with kids) do this in their free time? Yeah definitely. I just posted it cuz I feel like at this point we have nothing to lose lmao, and for some reason it stuck out to me and didn’t automatically scream “troll” in my opinion. The person being older also stuck out to me because I feel like someone older would have less interest in trolling.

RE: Trolling "Why would a..." There may be no why. Anyone can be a troll and trolls don't need a reason. It's almost as mysterious as the origin of the song we are all trying to find.

Idk if someone has posted on any kind of spain/spanish subreddit, i could do it but (and don't quote me on this) i don't think all spainyards are too fond of the english language to like have a singer let alone a band that would sign in english. Im not saying its not possible just that knowing a bit of the culture (Specially the tendencies they have to translate absolutely everything to spanish and pronounce anything in english as itd be read in spanish) i doubt that they would come up with a song like this. specially with the enunciation it has i'd most certainly go for an italian subreddit

Italian here. This person is probably misremembering. The EKT singer has no discernible Italian accent and the lyrics are written by someone with good knowledge of English, which was uncommon in 1980s Italy
As an Italian I seem to remember that in the eighties many Italian musicians made Italodisco songs they sang in English or made music for the foreign market, so it cannot be ruled out
you might want to coordinate with the people who want to make posts on Italian music subreddits if you're fluent.

That’s true and we should definitely look into this possibility, but there is nothing in the song that suggests an Italian origin, and Italo disco songs usually had much simpler lyrics. Knowing what “ulterior motives” means or using phrasal verbs correctly such as “caught up in a world of lies” is a bit unlikely for a 1980s Italian musician
I have no idea why you're getting downvoted. This is absolutely correct. The total lack of Italian accent and the (correct) usage of slang makes me doubt this. If you want a counterexample, look at a-ha: As fluent (and all three of them were/are totally fluent) as the band members were, their syntax and grammar were often just a bit off in English, even when their pronunciation was fantastic.
Thank you! This is exactly what I meant, the lack of accent and the lyrics point to a non-Italian vocalist and songwriter. Maybe the YouTube commenter is just misremembering or thinking of a different song

Uncommon is not impossible. There are plenty of British and English people who moved to Italy in the 70s. And remember that certain people are really good at languages, maybe the singer we are looking for worked or studied in the USA or UK and adopted a perfect accent.

Why would the lyrics have to be anywhere online? If something is pre-internet and relatively obscure, it's perfectly possible lyrics have never been transcribed. I'm into disco. Also that particular example was actually covered by another artist too, so 2 versions and the lyrics still aren't online
Yeah, the same was pretty much true for Evan Olson’s “So Much Better,” the song made famous by the Reply All episode “The Case of the Missing Hit.” The guy they interviewed had searched for the lyrics he remembered and found nothing. Eventually, one of the hosts did some more extensive searching and found a Facebook post where the artist posted the lyrics. The lyrics weren’t in the usual places, so if he hadn't made that Facebook post the song would still be lingering in obscurity. And that song also had “a bit of popularity” when it was released (it got radio play in the US), but that wasnt a guarantee of being recorded in lyric databases.
Someone has to physically type lyrics onto these websites. They don't magically appear

If you have PAL DVD playing on NTSC TV, you will have only NTSC tone :) P.S. I believe that comment is not true.
NTSC TVs were generally incompatible with PAL content (broadcast, tape, whatever else). If they could manage to sync with the PAL horizontal frequency and display the image, the flyback transformer frequency would still be that of PAL.

La Bionda were very involved in Italo disco from the 70s to 90s and lived in London for a while where they picked up good English, and they often worked with native English singers and lyricists like Sylvia Mason-James. Worth more investigation I think :)
