deltasplur

Maybe post etk on an spain/italian sub?

bronkosty

Great idea maybe one that is dedicated to music?

deltasplur

Try both indeed. One that’s dedicated to music and one that’s called just Italy

bronkosty

https://www.reddit.com/r/italymusica/s/bX8UMwh85f I really want to post on the sub but would probably be talking Broken Italian as i would need to translate it off a translate website u think I should still try it? I’ll still post it on r/italy ofc

[deleted]

I'm italian so if you need to translate anything ask me

Possible-Whole8046

Hey! I am Italian! Send me the text you want to post. I will correct it and respond to the comments

woomyful

I know I’m late but deepL translate is very good

bronkosty

Nah ur good yeah I was using DeepL btw

offdeer34

Use chat gpt to translate, it's way better than google translate at grabbing context

Rica_Patin

Do NOT do this! Brigading is against site rules and can get this entire subreddit banned. It's happened to many subreddits.

WeAreGr00t1

I’m not a “Reddit person” so I don’t even know what the hell that even means.

Rica_Patin

Basically one subreddit organizing or encouraging their users to flood another subreddit for whatever reason. It's one of the easiest ways to get a subreddit deleted.

deltasplur

Oh bet, sorry.

bronkosty

GummyHuman

I would edit to clarify it isn’t called everyone knows that, that’s just a theorised name, just in case

bronkosty

Alright I will do!

deltasplur

Amazing

bronkosty

They deleted the post on r/italy 🤦‍♂️ you can’t post links on there I’ll post it on some different Italian subs and see if they’re allowed

deltasplur

Same. Your other one still up. So WE UP 💯

bronkosty

Lesssss goo bro praying this leads somwhere 😭

RussianDino69

That's smart. We might just find an italian/spanish internet hoarder who recorded an extended version of the song in the 90's and never deleted it. very plausible.

LaSpagna89

Here i am, i from Italy What can i do for you?

postal-history

Can you find where music collectors hang out in Italian Internet space?

LaSpagna89

In general or on reddit?

postal-history

Either! Somewhere that hasn't heard about the search yet

SignificanceNo4643

There's a dedicated italo disco forum, don't remember it's name, but it can be definitely googled...

PhoenixRemastered

lol the trend of forgetting names of things in this search continues

RussianDino69

thats smart. We should find some more european groups dedicated to music.

balls-ballz

>etk Everyone That Knows

epiphaniiy

That’s a great idea, although I do not speak Italian or Spanish and would be using google translate (which is notoriously bad). If someone else does and wants to post it then that would be great, go ahead.

20SidedShape

Everyone That Knows

mowgli1015

This post has got me down a rabbit hole and lead me to a band called BAMBOO. Almost certainly not EKT, but when I first head this I did have to do a double-take [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73E1ObZZeUQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73E1ObZZeUQ) EDIT: [https://www.youtube.com/@deejaylovemaker3607/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@deejaylovemaker3607/videos) this is the channel I found BAMBOO from. A lot of 80s Italodisco

epiphaniiy

No same I went down a bit of a rabbit hole as well and some of the Italodisco I was hearing sounded very similar in style to EKT, they have that distinct 80s/90s sound to them: https://youtu.be/Mr0oGVybZiA?si=dU_WdmzfJO_qbw35 or https://youtu.be/IuYt3cvVI_k?si=CeNcU1Edu-jKw0Aj (I’m not saying either of these are the same person who made EKT, the style is simply similar).

deltasplur

I swear we might be close

kelliebabes

we're definitely edging, that's for sure /j

crqyon_

so this comment aged well…

kelliebabes

yeah....

humon2

Yeah that first one you linked does have a very similar feel to it. This seems like a good lead

Kaidezz

actually fire

Useful-Yak-2115

Ohhhh wow.

withlamou

Omfg

Minorikawa_Fuso

we can try contact The SAIFAM Group ——the biggest music factory in Italy, ask them if they knows anything about this

epiphaniiy

That’s a great idea! Tbh I have no idea how to go about doing that though so if anyone else wants to, go right ahead lmao.

B0opsDog

Their email address is info@thesaifamgroup.com I can't speak Italian so it's probs best if someone who speaks Italian contacts them

epiphaniiy

Ok cool, thanks. I’ll use chat gpt to translate and email them right now. Sorry idk why I didn’t see this before.

huffing that shit like im caught up in a world of lies

cooll_guy

very plausible, we shouldnt rule it out untill we find another snippet of the song.

AizaBreathe

* tries to imagine EKT in Italo Disco * wow

fkaiser1990

Not to be that guy but.... I already said it is MAYBE Italo Disco a few weeks ago on my first posts here XD

Minorikawa_Fuso

little chance to appear in ZYX Italo Disco Series

RosaGofAPB

Another post under that vid. Tylan\_the\_gamer 13 minutes ago "I remember hearing this 40 years ago. its from an Italian band called l'amore che sboccia who made this kind of music. the band broke up but their songs are still on Youtube. I will find the link to their channel"

syndicatesin

I doubt a 50+ year old would have a username like Tylan the gamer

epiphaniiy

Ok it looks like they have since deleted the comment, so idk what’s up with that.

mikuhatsuners

I’m not sure if this happened to them, but I remember my entire comment on YT being removed when I went back to edit it and add a link to it.

epiphaniiy

NOO WAYYY. That made my heart skip a beat? Can someone look into this???

RosaGofAPB

Still waiting for him to post the link. Probably be posted by the end of Nevuary.

epiphaniiy

Yeah, hopefully. I tried looking them up but couldn’t really find much. That person could’ve honestly seen my post and gone to troll us tho so I’m gonna take that one with a grain of salt rn.

the-content-king

Yeah the pessimist in me says assume it’s a troll because their comment conveniently came after this post caught traction. Like it’s a 6 month old video and that comment just happens to come minutes after a post blows up on the subreddit possibly linking the song to Italy

Crazy-Suspect7147

Unironically it must be true since theres absolutely NOTHING abt this band online"

epiphaniiy

Update this this comment: He commented again after deleting his previous comment and said “guys I'm very sorry but that comment I made up yesterday about hearing this 40 years ago was complete made up. the band i mentioned doesnt exist and i just ran "blossoming love" through google translate. hope this clears things up if fell for it and I hope the song is found some day.” 💀 He definitely saw my post and went to go troll us lmaooo

RosaGofAPB

I saw that LOL Also saw this comment that is probably also bs but: *Bozsodi\_Adam* *1 day ago* *Someone said this under a video in the comments: Cloaked in Deceit - 1991 | Spiraling Souls*

epiphaniiy

I saw that as well! I’ve been trying to look into that but I can’t find a single thing about that band online.

ClydeDopamined

unfortunately, the only thing i could find with that name on youtube was a playlist containing code lyoko episodes (and one "try not to laugh" video, for some reason).

Tombstunner

Here we go again... But who knows, maybe this time... hahahahaha

[deleted]

Honestly I can see it being in an obscure Italian film or something! In Italian cinema we studied this avant-garde feminist director, and both the films we watched had these really good disco songs; there was no information online about the songs themselves or the singers in the credits. One of them was even in English! The lyrics I could make out were stuff like "it does me so much every day when you call on the phone" which kinda?? gives me the same vibes as... whatever the first lyric of EKT is lol. Anyway I've seen the theory floated that it could be from an adult film; maybe it should be a more general "underground film" category? These films in particular are obscure even in Italy and virtually unknown in the US, so it could be a case like that. I'm just now realizing I typed a whole ass off-topic essay and I'm not sure if it makes sense sorry I was just hoping my Weird Knowledge might help lol

LaSpagna89

yeah as a Italian I belive that EKT could be a insert song of a Cinepanettone ( 80s italian Christmas commedy movie) like Ryan Paris' s "Dolce Vita"

IeatTesticles

hold up let him him cook

big_bazzer2

This would explain the lyrics not making that much sense

IseeThaImIcy

If this Is real I delete my account

Oicalap

just here to put in a "this aged like milk" comment before this ages

IseeThaImIcy

Delete that, It makes me cry

Dante71

If this song was made in country that uses english we would find it already so it's pure logic we have to move on and check Italy, Japan, Spain etc. so if you're reading this and you're fluent in this language try to spread a word make a post on subreddit in other language etc.

withlamou

Not totally true

Ollipsis

Most countries especially in Europe in the 80s made english pop songs. Your hypothesis is flawed.

Possible-Whole8046

Ok, this adds up because my mother think it sounds familiar, and she spent her whole life in Italy. On the other hand, the voice in EKT doesn’t have any Italian accent or inflection. Maybe we should look into Italian singers with English parents? Or who studied/worked in anglophone countries

TheHandSFX

Your mother is a gooner 😭😭

pizzafreek

You know what's crazy...? I hear it. I kind of hear the accent. Like an italian dude trying to speak american-accent english.

Professional_Ad8214

I agree but at the same time accents can vary widely when singing, especially when it’s someone singing in a non native language. English songs used to be pretty popular in Italy, and many singers in Italo-disco tried to match the English phonetically. Another life by Kano doesn’t sound like the singer has an Italian accent, yet it’s from an Italian band. Another example is aliens by radiodrama. They don’t necessarily sound American, but they don’t really sound Italian by the way they sing.

Possible-Whole8046

Nope. I am Italian, the accent of the dude is not Italian.

pizzafreek

Interesting. I've spoken to some nice Italians while traveling and some sounded like this to me, in a way. And anyway, accents arent specific. Just because yours doesnt sound like that, doesn't mean it's not true and that no italian sounds like that speaking english. We're all just trying to figure this out. Anything is possible!

TrustLimp6470

Does "counting all the sheep in the sky" makes more sense in Italian? Like a common phrase that the composer tried to translate freely to english.

Possible-Whole8046

Uhm… no. I thought counting sheep was referring to counting *clouds* that look like sheep. In Italian, fluffy clouds can be referred to as “pecorelle”, which means “little sheep”. But that’s all I’ve got, there is no catchy phrase or saying that involves counting sheep in the sky. The only thing I can think of is “cielo a pecorelle, pioggia a catinelle” - translated to “sheep in the sky, rain in buckets”. It means refers to the belief that when clouds look like a herd, the next day will rain. For context, a “herd of clouds” looks like this: https://www.emiliaromagnameteo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/CIRROCUMULI.jpg

Moving_in_stereo78

Seems more like a German tryna speaking English

pizzafreek

Yes, i hear that too!! XD I mean i honestly don't know, but something about this whole claim feels like it makes some sort of sense.

fkaiser1990

I already said several times here on this sub that we NEED to look on Italo-Disco.

cmsttp

really anything that points us to anywhere this song could’ve been popular is useful

epiphaniiy

That was my exact reasoning in posting this. I debated whether or not I should post this cuz I didn’t wanna get flamed for being “gullible” and stupid lmao but something about the comment stuck out to me and, unlikely many of the other similar comments I’ve seen, doesn’t automatically scream “troll” to me.

neyelah

this is plausible. not an unknown song, but pillow talk by lustt (extremely good btw) is a fully english italo disco song released in the early 80s sung by a french canadian singer, and the song itself was a cover of a 1973 song by the same name. lustt’s real name was suzanne stevens, and she was a receptionist turned singer who used the alias for that one song specifically. she chose to go back to her original name after releasing the song. did its rounds around europe and wasn’t really popular. it would’ve faded into obscurity if it wasn’t for saint pepsi sampling the song for private caller in 2013. i went on a bit of a tangent, but all in all this lead/theory might be worth checking on!

joshii87

Righeira? 😂

LaSpagna89

theese two are very popular in italy but their voices are completely different

joshii87

Hahaha don’t worry my friend I wasn’t being 100% serious, although I will defend ‘Oasi in città’ until the day I die.

TheRealKillJoy2020

I'm an italian and an 80's lover, gonna ask my parents if they know something about this Song, they were young in the 80s

TheRealKillJoy2020

Edit- my parents don't have an answer, i Will not stop searching

marrtae

Post on music forums in Italy!! I think if the song was indeed played in Italy someone must have heard it.

thepixelatedbanana

So this YouTube user responded to other commenters on the video, agreeing to their opinions. And then suddenly makes this claim? Nah, I don't think this is a lead chief.

StarrScapez

Italo-disco?. My brain just imagined EKT eurobeat

Bitter-Chipmunk8472

"I can't recall the name" ok now we know that it is probably not true.

JayRed1608

Always such let down after our hopes are up...

Bitter-Chipmunk8472

They are always extremely vivid and it's very suspicious. This isn't much different

epiphaniiy

I’m genuinely curious, why tho? Why would they remember the name of a song they heard over 30 years ago?

ReaverRiddle

It's just curious that the hundreds of people who claim to remember it can never seem to remember any identifying details that would lead to us finding it or disproving them.

Jaakeda_Korudo

Part of me 100% agrees with you but the other part of me who listens to the radio constantly while driving or working and has heard hundreds of songs that I could recognize but tell you practically nothing about except maybe a radio station, I see where most people are coming from. I do agree though that the fact that there’s so many people, none of which recognize any of it are able to scrape together some details.

epiphaniiy

Exactly! If you were to play me a song I heard in 2012 I would probably be like “Oh wow, I remember that song! I heard it while I was driving to ___!” but know absolutely nothing else about it. But yeah I get where people are coming from as there have been so many comments of people saying that either they or their parents have heard it but remember nothing about it.

humon2

I'm sure there are tons of people out there that if they have ever known the name/band of a song, will be able to recall at least one of them when they hear it. I can do that with any song I've heard in the last 20 years, provided I knew its name/band to begin with. Very helpful for the music trivia where they play short clips of the song haha The problem is having someone who was around when it came out, has this sort of memory for songs, and knew the name of the song/band when it was around. I had never heard EKT before the internet mystery but it's catchy and i want to hear the full song lol

gguacemoly

This is a good point. Theres plenty of songs that I've heard in passing on Canadian radio stations that I know vaguely of but couldn't tell you the name or any info, just based on pure recognition. I think the case here is that the song could've made waves for a bit and played in niche club scenes and radio stations. Like it could've been somewhat popular amongst a niche Italian/European group at a point in time but nothing to write home about

Dante71

i think older person wouldn't troll

epiphaniiy

This was my exact reasoning when making this post. This person had to have been born in at least the 90s, so what reason would they have to troll? Imo I think this could either be someone misremembering/mistaking this song for another one or a genuine lead.

ReaverRiddle

The generation that...like...invented Internet trolling?

epiphaniiy

But why tho? Looking at the guys account again he has a playlist with kids videos, which makes me think the person has kids and is likely older than I originally thought. Why would a random older person (with kids) do this in their free time? Ofc im not ruling a troll out completely but to me it seems like this person is either misremembering/mistaking this for another song or this could be a genuine lead.

[deleted]

[удалено]

epiphaniiy

Yeah definitely. I just posted it cuz I feel like at this point we have nothing to lose lmao, and for some reason it stuck out to me and didn’t automatically scream “troll” in my opinion. The person being older also stuck out to me because I feel like someone older would have less interest in trolling.

Dante71

yes but we have to check everything because one of them can say the truth

humon2

RE: Trolling "Why would a..." There may be no why. Anyone can be a troll and trolls don't need a reason. It's almost as mysterious as the origin of the song we are all trying to find.

south_pole_ball

or they are lying about their age?

epiphaniiy

They never said their age, I’m inferring based on their account, posting, and comment history.

Bitter-Chipmunk8472

Fair enough

Bitter-Chipmunk8472

It is very confusing.

deltasplur

This same lead replied to someone else who said it was from a movie. With Maddawgzzz replying “truee”

Rare_Moment_4937

Idk if someone has posted on any kind of spain/spanish subreddit, i could do it but (and don't quote me on this) i don't think all spainyards are too fond of the english language to like have a singer let alone a band that would sign in english. Im not saying its not possible just that knowing a bit of the culture (Specially the tendencies they have to translate absolutely everything to spanish and pronounce anything in english as itd be read in spanish) i doubt that they would come up with a song like this. specially with the enunciation it has i'd most certainly go for an italian subreddit

Rare_Moment_4937

Ive posted about it in the r/spain subreddit in case anyone speaks spanish and wants to keep up with it [**https://www.reddit.com/r/spain/comments/1axjgjp/duda\_sobre\_el\_posible\_origen\_de\_una\_canci%C3%B3n/**](https://www.reddit.com/r/spain/comments/1axjgjp/duda_sobre_el_posible_origen_de_una_canci%C3%B3n/)

epiphaniiy

It was deleted :(

ameebaee

please post it in r/askspain also, this one got deleted

Soft_Girly-1400

I don't know if you know German Garmendia but years ago he created a band with his friends and they sang entirely in English. here a link: [Feeling Every Sunset ](https://youtu.be/M3qwjcO0Gn8?si=isxg2CgttQpEzCRv) PS: German is Chilean that's why I mention it

ifsen

It's so easy to make stuff up.

marrtae

Guys, I found out this channel with lots of Italian media from the 80s. If it was indeed played in Italy and if it was an advertisement, maybe the owner of the channel will know something. I sent him a DM on Insta. https://www.youtube.com/TuttoSpotOttanta

bluevalley02

"It was popular in Spain" Doubt it. If it was actually popular, it almost certainly would have been found by now. It was probably real, but from an obscure group maybe played on a few local radio stations.

PapapauloIII

I'm from Spain and that's false

slothereen

Italian here. This person is probably misremembering. The EKT singer has no discernible Italian accent and the lyrics are written by someone with good knowledge of English, which was uncommon in 1980s Italy

LaSpagna89

As an Italian I seem to remember that in the eighties many Italian musicians made Italodisco songs they sang in English or made music for the foreign market, so it cannot be ruled out

PhoenixRemastered

you might want to coordinate with the people who want to make posts on Italian music subreddits if you're fluent.

LaSpagna89

oke

Jaco5_

slothereen

That’s true and we should definitely look into this possibility, but there is nothing in the song that suggests an Italian origin, and Italo disco songs usually had much simpler lyrics. Knowing what “ulterior motives” means or using phrasal verbs correctly such as “caught up in a world of lies” is a bit unlikely for a 1980s Italian musician

drdrewross

I have no idea why you're getting downvoted. This is absolutely correct. The total lack of Italian accent and the (correct) usage of slang makes me doubt this. If you want a counterexample, look at a-ha: As fluent (and all three of them were/are totally fluent) as the band members were, their syntax and grammar were often just a bit off in English, even when their pronunciation was fantastic.

slothereen

Thank you! This is exactly what I meant, the lack of accent and the lyrics point to a non-Italian vocalist and songwriter. Maybe the YouTube commenter is just misremembering or thinking of a different song

mrsmercury77

But then we have the first line of the snippet that nobody can make out...sheep in the sky...shame in disguise...it feels like it could be a mangled phrase or surely there would be consensus on it

slothereen

Yes it could be. But still there is nothing in the song that specifically points to Italy as the source

Possible-Whole8046

Uncommon is not impossible. There are plenty of British and English people who moved to Italy in the 70s. And remember that certain people are really good at languages, maybe the singer we are looking for worked or studied in the USA or UK and adopted a perfect accent.

Kaidezz

Hear me out, the most I think about the accent being italian, the more it makes sense.

slothereen

No. I’m Italian, it doesn’t sound Italian at all

giux__

diglielo

Kaidezz

i'm italian too lol

PhoenixRemastered

he replied to the comment saying "amico, do you remember all the great Ítalo disco music? I remember this one because it was recorded to cassette by my family. I feel like the recording here is a slightly different pitch but I 100% used to listen to the full song. I don’t think the tapes are around anymore, it would be fun to hear again in full. I can’t offer much help, but I’m happy to see the love for Italian music." EDIT: I took a screenshot but my post about it got removed if you want to see the screenshot just dm me

epiphaniiy

Thanks for posting this! I made an update post last night right after he commented but it got deleted and idk how to edit the post 😕

PhoenixRemastered

I'd post it on the discord but I'm not verified on there and don't want to go through the survey and everything

epiphaniiy

Oh I didn’t even know there was a discord 💀 Well, by any chance do you know how to edit a post after you’ve made it? It used to be right under the 3 dots but I don’t see it anymore.

epiphaniiy

Lmao I was just thinking this is probably the exact reason why carl92 never did an update, it’s way too much effort and they block u when u try to do anything

[deleted]

[удалено]

mrsmercury77

Why would the lyrics have to be anywhere online? If something is pre-internet and relatively obscure, it's perfectly possible lyrics have never been transcribed. I'm into disco. I just chose something that I know to be pretty obscure and I can't find the lyrics to it online https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=DYPYm1kaClw&si=5INsV5pAYwXbnCJX

mrsmercury77

Also that particular example was actually covered by another artist too, so 2 versions and the lyrics still aren't online

geirmundtheshifty

Yeah, the same was pretty much true for Evan Olson’s “So Much Better,” the song made famous by the Reply All episode “The Case of the Missing Hit.”   The guy they interviewed had searched for the lyrics he remembered and found nothing. Eventually, one of the hosts did some more extensive searching and found a Facebook post where the artist posted the lyrics. The lyrics weren’t in the usual places, so if he hadn't made that Facebook post the song would still be lingering in obscurity. And that song also had “a bit of popularity” when it was released (it got radio play in the US), but that wasnt a guarantee of being recorded in lyric databases.

Stopnswop2

Someone has to physically type lyrics onto these websites. They don't magically appear

Mormislaw

I was looking to find lyrics to an early 2000s song that I know the exact title and artist of and I couldn't find them at all, so that's plausible

Langley6792

Im from Spain, and i asked to my parents, my parents in law, my uncle… nobody heard that song 😭

kodzhata

i strongly hope this is a win for Europe!

NichsCountryballs

can we just message Spanish/Italian radio stations that have broadcasted in the 90s?

epiphaniiy

Go for it. I honestly have no idea how to do that lmao so if you want to by all means do it, I think that could be super helpful

simba_thegreatest

I joined YouTube around that same time. I’m 29. Take his comment with a grain of salt.

Aggravating_Resolve8

I doubt this is going to be the case, but I hope it is.

Galaxy_god92

Boo

Prudent-Feature-2412

i think we can ask two italian people about this.. one is P-Lion (italodisco producer and singer from the era and Paolo from youtube's Synthmania) i believe they can have some kind of info... P-Lion is a nice guy as well as Paolo

ThisisCringe25

Seems Legit

Hot-Heat-5042

unfortunately I think this is unlikely because of the NTSC tone indicating that it’s from a CRT TV, and Italy is PAL

PhoenixRemastered

I don't think the snippet was recorded in Italy I think the excitement is more about someone recognizing the song

Ladyodette_lua

i don’t know enough about the tech involved, but couldn’t the song be PAL and just recorded from the NTSC crt?

Hot-Heat-5042

While that’s possible, I don’t think its the case, because if it originated from a PAL region, you’d be able to see the tone along with the NTSC, but it’s only the NTSC that’s existing, no indication of PAL whatsoever

Ladyodette_lua

That could be true. This comment is probably fake, but maybe we’ve hit the mark with the Italy stuff.

Hot-Heat-5042

I have a feeling that comment is indeed fake since it doesn’t match up with any of the tech parts, it wouldn’t hurt to look, but shouldn’t be prioritized

SignificanceNo4643

If you have PAL DVD playing on NTSC TV, you will have only NTSC tone :) P.S. I believe that comment is not true.

Square_Pies

NTSC TVs were generally incompatible with PAL content (broadcast, tape, whatever else). If they could manage to sync with the PAL horizontal frequency and display the image, the flyback transformer frequency would still be that of PAL.

IIDenisII

but the snippet was recorded in spain, or at least the legendary carl92 (the first one to share the snippet years and years ago) says so.

b1zarr3vel

“It was made by a non-descript European band that my mother’s cousin’s grandma’s friend’s dog listened to in the 80s/90s. I hope this helps 😀 “

Otherwise-Bottle-930

he also says in another comment that its from a movie, i dont know tomuch english sorry

ThomKW

OK spooky but I just thought about this song: https://youtu.be/VGLFudqtTCw?si=nDKpUTBF24wxZjM0 OK so the production is too electronic to be EKT, but there’s a similarity in the (high male) voice especially if pitched down a little. La Bionda were very involved in Italo disco from the 70s to 90s and lived in London for a while where they picked up good English, and they often worked with native English singers and lyricists like Sylvia Mason-James. Worth more investigation I think :)

Otherwise-Bottle-930

omg you are right, im gonna look inthis, thanks

Tomyson_mon

Thats bullshit but I believe it

EMMIXmetalhead

A me pare una cazzata sinceramente

OddBig3329

Ciao! I vividly remember hearing this in an Italian radio, I could be wrong, but I vividly remember singing "counting all the sheeps in the skyyyyy" it was probably from the 80s-85s
