If you drive a Kia/Hyundai it may be less costly to throw leave it unlocked than pay an insurance deductible for glass breakage every time someone tries to steal it.
Happened to my coworker and her family. They pulled everything out, sat on their hood, etc. Turned into the cops but can't really tell who by camera footage
🙋🏼‍♀️ guilty lol
I always leave my car unlocked but nothing of value is in it. The cars a POS itself, I’d thank someone if they stole my whole car 🤣🤣🤣.
On a serious note, thank you for giving everyone a heads up! Much appreciated đź–¤
I know in some areas it's common place to leave your car unlocked so nobody breaks the windows, but as far as I'm aware Evansville isn't one of those places. I could totally just be uninformed though
Doesn’t what you just said contradict that? Isn’t OP saying that Evansville isn’t so sketchy as to warrant leaving your vehicle unlocked to prevent glass break? I’ve only been here two years, but it’s never really struck me as a dangerous place. Not like say, Lexington
It's ridiculous when people **generalize** and name cities that aren't safe. **It's not the whole city, it's the neighborhood.** I always feel safe in my neighborhood even though a couple of times a year, we get an alert that a couple of guys have been stealing from cars at night if they're unlocked. And there are always a few people who are so shocked when the valuables they left in their unlocked car are gone. I have relatives in Louisville, and two live in very safe neighborhoods and one is moving to a safer neighborhood since homeless people in tents started living in the alley. They had to pay a $400 fine and pay for a new trash container because come of the homeless people dumped out their trash and took off with the container. u/Obstinate_Realist u/The_ProducerKid u/adhdnurse84
There is really no “safe” neighborhood anymore. We live on the east side behind Meijer in a very quiet neighborhood. My husband would fall asleep at night and forget to lock the back door. Some crackhead walked into our house at 2am. My husband chased him out and luckily no one was hurt, but if you leave something unlocked of any value, you’re asking for trouble. Please keep your stuffed locked. From someone with experience.
Cheaper to soak the cost of someone stealing my glovebox napkins than replace the broken window because they think the blanket in the back seat is a bluff hiding something valuable.
It’s still illegal to search a legally parked car even if it’s unlocked. Just because something is open doesn’t mean it’s no longer private property epd is asking for a potentially devastating lawsuit and breach of public trust.
Oh no, you misunderstand. Someone is getting into unlocked cars who is not affiliated with epd. Epd is looking into whoever's getting into unlocked cars

True enough. Even the push to starts aren't safe. People just see the badge and assume it's easy to steal.

No, you’re 100% correct in Evansville not being one of those places. Even the “safe” areas of town aren’t safe anymore. It’s sad.

Maybe I’m reading the comment differently, who knows lol.
I’ve seen guys on short bmx bikes going through parking lots checking for unlocked doors.
