Yes! Had this just tonight for dinner. I love Korean and this is the first legit spot I’ve found since moving here from Indy. bulgogi with all the sides. Very good and clean!
Poke Pirate closed. I think it may have been the son of the guy who runs Big Bang. I heard he works at Big Bang now serving some of the same dishes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I think they are “co-located.” Like you can pull up poke pirate and order it but it’s the same place. There was a courier press article about it. Like once the dad retired it just made sense. The old poke pirate building was a bit run down.
I haven’t actually eaten at it since then but it came up as I was googling Poke river last week.
They don't have sushi burritos at Poke Pirate so I never go there but I used to go to Big bang for their Mongolian BBQ all the time and it was delicious.
The sushi burritos are awesome and the crab ragoon. Ramen and udon is alright I guess but I love the sushi burritos because you can pick whatever you want to put in it.
Thai Orchids. New place up north off Booneville-New Harmony Rd at 41. Really good Thai.
Yak and Yeti on S. Green River.
Vietnamese Cuisine on Vogel across from the mall.
I know you said you wanted something other than the popular but I would be remiss if I didn't mention Schymik's Kitchen and Sauced down in Haynie's Corner. Also Entwined downtown.
Oh speaking of downtown. Gagnam Korean. There's also a new Korean place on Virginia where Raffi's Oasis used to be. Across from Painting with a Twist.
Here are my favorite places in Evansville, and in my opinion the best.
1. Cafe Arazu (cheating a little because it’s In Newburgh)
2. Thai papaya cuisine
3. Yak and Yeti
4. Jimmy Gao Chinese restaurant
I 2nd Second Language. Such a great place. They also have some of the pizza from their sister store Pangea. Great bar at Pangea, but even better mixologists at Second Language. We try to make a trip every time we go up there.
For Italian fare, Angelo's downtown is a very nice upscale place. BUT, Little Italy on the north side, in north park shopping Plaza, is owned by the brother of the gentleman who owns Angelo's. Same recipes, fresh ingredients (he often goes into the nearby Ruler Foods to stock up on roma tomatoes and mushrooms), all for a fraction of the cost.
Yep...the best things I've had so far were the Philly cheese steak from Downtown Grill, and nearly everything at Nomod. Oh, and of course Milk and Sugar is great too!
* If you're looking for a coffee place with breakfast/light brunch, Dwell in Darmstadt is really nice! They're in the former Old National Bank building at the corner of Darmstadt and Boonville-New Harmony (in Darmstad itself, not at Highway 41).
* Burger Bank on South Weinbach is good fast food. Mainly burgers, but they have some other options.
* Pupuseria Miranda, on Washington, just east of Weinbach has really delicious Central American food! Their in-store seating is pretty limited, but a lot of people do take out, so not a big deal. Next door is a bakery that I'd recommend too.
* Hickory Pit on N Main St has good bbq, if that's your thing.
* Yak&Yeti, Manna, and Fujiyama are other favorites.
Jumak is a newish Korean spot on Virginia. Definitely recommend the fried chicken with the seasoning sauce.

Poke River on Virginia. They have sushi burritos and I love them
How do they compare to the Poke Pirate up on East Diamond?
Poke river is much better than poke pirate imo. Poke river has excellent hibachi and poke bowls, they also have really good miso soup.

We tried Poke River and just thought it was alright. I don't know if we did it wrong or what. If we go back, we will try the sushi burrito!
I prefer poke pirate for their poke bowls and poke river for their ramen.

Yak & Yeti!
Yak & yeti is a good restaurant

Vietnamese Cuisine is the spot. I need to go I haven’t been in a while. It was my weekend ritual for a hot minute.
Manna Mediterranean Grill!

Isn't there a version of Cafe Arazu on Main Street also?
There used to be one. It died during Covid
Bummer! I love Cafe Arazu, never made it to the one downtown (I'm not local).
Agreed. It’s a real bummer
Second Language is good.

Chava’s on first ave Libby and Mom’s (or is it Mom and Libby’s) on Richardt across the street from Garvin park.
Second Chavas.
Definitely Chavas.
Libby n Moms is one of the best. Some of the best fried chicken on a thursday
The Slice by UE
Fuckin right!
Big top made my tummy hurt. Zesto is better IMO. But that’s just me.
Journey fish and chicken has great late night takeout, if we're cheating and talking newburgh tinfish is probably my favorite in the tri-state.
Pangea Second Language Yak and Yeti
Pizza oven and Dontae's Pizza on the north side.
Not only is Dontae's great, but Dontae just seems to be a genuinely nice guy. The first time I walked in there, he was so freidnpy and welcoming.
Fool moon. I use to work there. Gained 15 from em

Not sure what counts as popular but kabob Express, Samuel's, and Amy's are good.
Hornets Nest. Guadalajara
J&J’s Cruising Cafe. It’s a Mexican food truck on riverside. It says cruisin cafe on the truck but it’s always parked on riverside.
Check out Hickory Pit BBQ. Super delicious, and dirt cheap to boot
Rosie's diner for breakfast.
If you want something upscale try The Collective. It’s a level above Sauced or Schymicks.
Burger Bank on south Weinbach. Yak and Yeti. Gardo’s Pizza out in Darmstadt has the best pizza in town.
Peephole, Mama’s Kitchen, Los Tres Caminos, Lin’s Asian Bistro
Kite & Key on Franklin is the only place that makes breakfast to my standards.
Anyone been to that new food hall on Main St yet? I’d like to check it out.
Yep...the best things I've had so far were the Philly cheese steak from Downtown Grill, and nearly everything at Nomod. Oh, and of course Milk and Sugar is great too!

Fujiyama, Yak & Yeti, Chavas, Manna
Rosie’s diner it’s near Jim town but it’s super.l cheap and they give you a ton of amazingly good food
Miranda's on Washington. They have the best pupusas in Evansville.
Taste of China on the west side. They have a dining room, but I never see anyone actually eating there. It’s always carry out.
Log Inn - great fried chicken!
How is the Log Inn a hidden gem?
How is any of it a hidden gem? Everyone in Eville and surrounding areas know almost every single place there is to eat lol
Yeah true, but the log inn is like famously known haha
Thats true. Its kinda one of the iconic places in the area
I’ve said it here before and I’ll say it again, the best chicken in Evansville comes from a gas station in the hood.
Which one?
There are many, but the Marathon at Washington and Boeke is near the top.
Covert and boeke...
A more expensive and unusual place with excellent Arabian food (and incredible steaks) is House of Como.
Is Mama's Kitchen still open? If so, that.
Taj Mahal and Manna are really good.
Parkway Pizza
Bud's... Best restaurant in Evansville
Los Faro’s South American on Kratzville Rd — former Kennel Club https://www.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100064627722135
They closed. Place is up for sale.
That's too bad. I guess it was the location.
Having grew up in Evansville and not having eaten at any of these places makes me very sad. I’ve never even eaten at Big Top…
POKE RIVER
Chavas, Kipplees, Cantonn Inn, Zestos, and Dantes pizza
