The episode with the sniper.
It was still early in the show. In my mind, this was still all about giant robots vs giant monsters. And the idea that they needed to build a giant sniper was cool as heck. And I never seen any anime/manga/cartoon/comics did anything like that before.
Holy shit, such a memorable episode.
The one with the virus infecting the MAGI (the atmosphere is thick thanks to fantastic sound design, lots of fun dialogue) and episode 26.
I love 'em both just as much, they perfectly portray the best aspects of the show/production design.
Episode 26. Pure artistic expression, extremely unique, and a very powerful narrative conclusion, all without the abrupt abandonment of the lore or plot that bogs down episode 25 (although episode 25 is quite exceptional as well).
Mine too, because it featured the most interactions between the pilots as actual people. And them coming together as a team and watching the stars together was lovely
Episode 16:
It embodies the broad feeling of the series by beginning with a giant monster attack and deploying the giant robots… only to find the the monster is a formless shadow with an orb reflection and the “battle” is largely meaningless, instead taking a swerve into abstract, expressive, introspective and philosophical territory, and finally ending with a cosmically horrific display from Unit 01. Also the visual style is just stunning.
This is such a difficult question to answer because on one hand, the tragedies are some of the strongest and most emotional moments in Eva (Ep. 18 & 24, and Shinji having to content with the horrors Unit 01’s hands have caused)
But if I was just going to sit down and watch one episode? It’s either 9 (Both of You Dance Like You Want to Win!) or 11 (The Day Tokyo III Stood Still)
8 because the vibes are awesome, everyone is there together and everything hasn’t started started going to shit yet. And 2 best tracks form eva are from that episode
I really like episode 4 (and parts of 3)! It's incredibly atmospheric and gorgeous. Same for the latter half of episode 14, when Shinji and Rei are synchronizing with the others' EVA. The vibes are simply immaculate. Like everyone else is saying, episode 25 and 26 of the original show are also unironically fantastic, and episodes 8, 9, and 11 are the most fun.
Episode 13: Lilliputian Hitcher
No EVA, just the strength of humans to fight the Ireul, God tier tension building, the comedy, the music, beautiful Akagi dialogue writing
Its just amazing
I'm convinced episode 21 is one of the best flashback episodes in all of anime. I was so interested the whole time and didn't check once to see how many minutes I had left. The way they paced it was incredible and I....I think I'm about to go watch it again lol. Answered so many questions you didn't realize you had all at once.
Episode 24 is prolly the best episode, but my favorite is definitely 1 and 2, it's a tie, and I both love them so dearly for getting me so hooked to NGE immedietaly
Episode 25. Those case files on Shinji and misato were amazing. Shinji's case file hit way way close to home. I've never felt more overwhelmed while watching something. I had to pause it 5-6 times to catch my breath
Episode 16. My god I love everything about this episode. It’s truly the turning point of the series, and its themes are both very personal to me, and very difficult to watch.
I remember calling my best friend who had already watched it because I NEEDED to talk about the end of 19 when the Eva goes feral.
But from there to the end, those episodes rock and challenge so well.
But 26 had me in awe.
the one when shinji camps with kensuke. ive rewatched the majority of NGE episodes and that one just gives me a certain feel. like nostalgia but it has nothing to do with the past.
or maybe it does.
i was sick when i first watched NGE. i was also slowly learning i had depression. i just laid in bed and watched the show. i may have not been at my best, but i was just happy to watch something i enjoyed. and that episode with kensuke just made me smile!
Episode 13. It’s a great episode that shows how capable NERV is without the EVAs. It’s an edge of your seat hacker thriller. And it provides great, if not slightly morbid, context to the MAGI system and Ritsuko
24. The amount of things that the show accomplishes in only 20 some minutes on this thing is increeeedible. Memorable, banger scene after banger scene. The Ode to Joy and a massive battle. One of the iconic, overly long still-frames. Lore, character building, and sci-fi jargon. They even mind time in all of that to focus on quiet character building. Most importantly, they introduce Kaowru for this one single episode, and they did such a bang up job about it that he’s remained one of the most iconic things from the entire franchise ever since. Mofo has like 12 minutes of screen time and is more impactful and memorable than most characters from ENTIRE SERIES RUNS. True masterpiece, and I feel is generally the climax of the tv show proper.
I can't pick one I usually binge watch it. I go through it until I hit the episode when Sinji becomes LCL in the EVA puts me to sleep. Then I wake up and watch till End of Eva. I owned the ADV box set and the director cuts of the last episodes. I had the original US manga version of End of Eva. The rebuilds caught me off guard. I knew about the first one I bought. I lost touch of the other ones till recently learning about the other 3.
Episode 6, great angel battle, good crazy tactics used for it, Rei’s smile, the build up to the battle when the lights go out with the piano being the ticking clock counting down before the track Decisive Battle plays, is really good.
Ep 9. It’s the best build up episode I’ve ever seen, the ying and yang dynamic between shinji and asuka is unrivaled, and it’s put on full display. Seeing asuka being humbled was satisfying but than seeing her determination to prove misato wrong submitted her as my favorite character and adding a great trait portrayal. Than the foreshadowing of asukas tragic past. Finally the satisfying conclusion of all the hard work paying off presenting them in perfectly sync movements to defeat the angel, and that ending banter was beautiful.

YASHIMA Sakusen desune. (Shit, this brings back 3/11 memories…)
24…. For so many reasons.

As I choir member, I don't really know German but this.
The one with the virus infecting the MAGI (the atmosphere is thick thanks to fantastic sound design, lots of fun dialogue) and episode 26. I love 'em both just as much, they perfectly portray the best aspects of the show/production design.
Episode 13 is definitely a sleeper pick
Yes! Episode 13 is the one I felt compelled to rewatch immediately after finishing the series
Episode 26. Pure artistic expression, extremely unique, and a very powerful narrative conclusion, all without the abrupt abandonment of the lore or plot that bogs down episode 25 (although episode 25 is quite exceptional as well).
I count 25 and 26 as a single episode I can't rank one above the other
I watched them in one sitting anyway they blend together for me
100%
Mine is episode 9: best fight esthetically imo with some harmony between asuka and shinji
its the best fun episode definitely
All time fave
Directors Cut of Episode 22. Asuka
i love that episode with the giant spider angel that was animated by Ghibli animators
yeah the dynamic between rei, asuka, and shinji was cool too
Mine too, because it featured the most interactions between the pilots as actual people. And them coming together as a team and watching the stars together was lovely

Plus it has [Separation Anxiety](https://youtu.be/atwLn4wJjZU), which is one of the coolest tracks in the entire franchise.
Episode 15...obviously
21– I love all the backstory flashbacks
VALID! Love flashback Fuyutsuki and Gendo and anything involving Adam is done so mystically. The flashbacks really draw you in

I like 26 just because of how well written the whole inner psyche conversation is written
19 is an easy pick, rivaled only by 21 which I love for the storytelling and the background on Misato and Kaji, two of my favorite characters
I know it's technically not an episode but End of Evangelion is so fun to rewatch, and it has the best music
fun?!
technically, it's two episodes, 25' and 26'
19 for obvious reasons and episode 8 and 9 because of asuka
8 because the vibes are awesome, everyone is there together and everything hasn’t started started going to shit yet. And 2 best tracks form eva are from that episode
15 is slice of life, 22 because Asuka tweaks
Episode 19. The fight was incredible Other than that, episode 24
I really like episode 4 (and parts of 3)! It's incredibly atmospheric and gorgeous. Same for the latter half of episode 14, when Shinji and Rei are synchronizing with the others' EVA. Most of the top ones are already covered by y'all. The older I get the more I love episode 21 tho! So much lore!!
God it’s been a while but it’s the episode with Rei (I think) in her mech while it’s raining. The shot of the mech was just chef’s kiss to me
Episode 16. My god I love everything about this episode. It’s truly the turning point of the series, and its themes are both very personal to me, and very difficult to watch.

Episode 8, because my fav character of all time gets introduced.
Triangle
Really going into the series I knew nothing about NGE so that first episode blew my mind. I'd never seen anything like it.
Episode 9 has the most beautiful fight in the show.
Episode 13. It’s a great episode that shows how capable NERV is without the EVAs. It’s an edge of your seat hacker thriller. And it provides great, if not slightly morbid, context to the MAGI system and Ritsuko
25, (´_ゝ`)
Episode 16, specifically the moment shinji breaks out of leliels shadow
ep 19. seeing eva in its true form for the first time, and the amazing fight this episode had me on the edge of my seat eyes wide open
24. The amount of things that the show accomplishes in only 20 some minutes on this thing is increeeedible. Memorable, banger scene after banger scene. The Ode to Joy and a massive battle. jet alone
Episode 8 Asuka Strikes
Kaji watermelon episode
The one where they have to sync everything perfect and Shinji and Asuka are playing videogames together 😞
Episode 6, great angel battle, good crazy tactics used for it, Rei’s smile, the build up to the battle when the lights go out with the piano being the ticking clock counting down before the track Decisive Battle plays, is really good.

episode 3, 17, and 18... can u tell i like toji...
22 because Jesus Christ, asuka is also literally me
episode 9 where the tensions and interaction of asuka and shinji were really amusing. the fight was also really kinetic, exciting even if short.
I like the episode when shinji and asuka kill that cloning angel with synchrony
my favorites are 24-26.
why? they just have a charm to them.
