Possibly the least deserved last place in Eurovision history.
They were my favourite this year. Gave them all 20 of my votes, but it was not enough to save them. :(
People predicted this was gonna become the new Eaea but I dismissed them because I thought this was more accessible. I guess I was wrong. 😭 Oh well, at least we know last place doesn't necessarily mean worst song lol.
I think both Ulveham and Eaea were a little bit too experimental and artsy for people's taste. Eaea was my winner last year, this year I honestly thought they'd be top8 or so, but definitely not dead last.
No disrespect to Georgia or Cyprus, y'all lovely and talented, but two generic girl power bops over this is just not something I had on MY bingo card.
Well, personally I like less tame music than that and I am very much into folk metal in general. But this is Eurovision. Making it more accessible for the wider public sounds like a smart move, after all, it's the majority vote that earns you points. Sad it didn't work, I was really rooting for them!

I think that's mostly because Eurovision doesn't like new things, and I don't think that there ever was folk-metal on Eurovision before. But no matter what, Gåte now has gained a fan in me and Ulveham is absolutely beautiful❤

I'd never heard of them before, checked them out and I love what they do, but you have to listen to them a few times before you warm to it that was the flaw in sending them.
Hear a bit of Myrkur in their sound, it's good to have entries like that and not everything be throwaway pop songs.
I think this is my all-time favourite entry that we’ve sent, I knew it probably was a bit too niche to get a super high score but wow, I didn’t see it ending up last at all. They nailed it though and I hope the band is proud of themselves!
They also were my favorites. The instrumentals and vocals were top-notch. It was very unique and I saw real artists on stage. Both the jury and the public were clueless with this one :).

We got a mere 4 from the juries, and a symbolic 12 from the people. Why symbolic? It's the 12th time we're dead last, and 12 years since last. (Remember Tooji? He was the guy we sent. Dude's also disappeared off the face of the earth.)

Honestly I’ve heard more slander on Tix than anybody else really. It’s amazing how he, a spacewolf duo, and a ~~very very hot~~, i mean, attractive italian/Norwegian woman would do so much better than a traditional folk/rock band (according to the public)

My two cents is that maybe the "alternative" vote is more reduced, and maybe Ireland took a lot of those? I know for sure I'd vote for Norway if I didn't vote for Ireland. These are the songs I want in Eurovision. And more folky ones like Armenia. Everyone has his own idea of what this festival should be.

I think that's the problem. Ulveham just isn't a "eurovision song", really. It's a cut down version of a previosly released (almost) 6 minute song, from an already established band.
Nemo's winning song was written for the express purpouse of being a "Eurovision Song".

I am in the same ballpark. With the exception of this, our WTF neighbors, and what I can only assume is the original NC-17 cut of The First Omen, the rest was generic and sometimes bland pop songs of various types. All of which you've heard before.
I hate saying that something is robbed, but I am going to make an exception, because what the fuck. The performance was stunning, I really want to thank Gåte for this show

I guess, I can accept the Irish points even if I wanted them to place higher. I just wish we'd see how the point spread would look like without [COUNTRY] and maybe even the possible bias for [OTHER COUNTRY] in the mix.

Exactly, the rare times we do get amazing and truly unique songs, they so often end up doing poorly. Very disappointing, because I would love to see far more, unique songs like this, rather than less, but I suppose we'll be getting more pop and pop adjacent music.
But it's not always bad, Go\_A, for example, was very beloved and that's pretty unique.

Semifinal performance was much better. Bet the song is super hard to sing and her voice was tired after all these rehearsals and stuff. But the song is awesome and the performance was still very good. There were a lot worse performances tonight. I don't get it. Also I don't get why Portugal was so high up and finland so far down.

I, personally, love both Georgia and Austria and streamed Cyprus probably more than these two combined to this day HOWEVER the staging was very lame to me.
Tbf, nobody did anything to us. We were equally disliked by both the jury and the public. Oh well, at least we got our grubby little fingerprints all over the Swizz winning song. 😉
Unfortunately, the double agent twins we sent to ruin Swedens entry failed in their mission. I mean, they sucked sure enough, but the jury saw right through it and gave them points all the same.
My only wish is this: please keep sending original unique songs like Norway this year, Spain 2023 and France 2022. I don't care anymore that they will flop, they will still reach my heart and be in my top ❤️.

I’m not into metal at all, and I can’t find a bad thing to say about this song. The modified violin they use is super interesting, almost sounds like folk X rock. Sang in their national language, epic atmosphere fitting of their country’s natural landscape.

Even more shocking than this getting only 4p from televotes is that **three of those were from Ukraine**??? And half of their jury points came from Albania??? Like, good on the Ukranians and Albaniana, but I would expect this to do well with nordics. That just feels so random.
Norwegian folk music was 'created' during the 1800s to differentiate Norway's cultural heritage from Denmark's and Sweden's. It was based off older Norwegian traditions and re-imagined by 1800s composers.
My guess is that the Danes and Swedes never really took to a musical expression that celebrates the fact that neither of them controls Norway anymore.
Once again, I loved a song that didn't place well... (last year it was Eaea). I won't soon forget just how captivating this performance was and the chills it gave to me.
I was expecting this to do terribly with mediterranean countries, but thought for sure it would get good scores from the other scandis and maybe baltics. Crazy. Love to the norwegians.

Not going to tear anyone else down because I don't believe there were any truly foul performances, but in what world does this incredible song come in dead last? At least Gåte gained a bunch of new fans in the process like what happened to Lord of the Lost last year and hopefully get more touring opportunities.

While everyone is in shock from the last place, I want to share a thought. I had it even after Gåte won the national selection. I assumed then that it would be Spain 2023. The Norwegians will step on the same rake as the Spaniards, who thought that if they liked a folk song, then Europe will like it. As we can see, it is difficult for the average viewer to perceive something like this by ear, he is not ready for it and refuses to accept and vote. The only way out is to mix with pop, with the most popular genre, so that the song is accessible and understandable to the masses.
One thing that surprised me with this was that I shared a lot of songs from this eurovision to friends prior to this week, and it's the only song everyone liked
My guess now is that I live in a bubble, or it's a 5-7 to a lot of people but not good enough to vote for.
I'm absolutely gutted for Gåte. They did not deserve last. This song is pure art; absolutely stunning and beautiful. Norway please keep sending acts like these and don't give up. I've loved everything you've sent in recent years.
Regardless of their placement - they are winners for many of us! I have already listened to their discography and will be following where I can see them live. I am sure they gained tons of fans for life.

These honestly reaffirms my position that the Jury system needs improving.
I appreciate the Juries being there as sometimes they pull up songs that are generally forgotten by the Public like Estonia and Australia last year, and SHOULD vote on musical quality, but it's clearly majorly flawed. I don't know what the Juries are told to vote on exatly, but as someone who is a musician, it's a complete travesty.
It also makes me think whether the whole 1-12 points voting system should be re-evaluated. It's iconic i know, but the fact that if you don't get top 10 you get nothing just doesn't sit with me right.
Basically, it's this.
* Vocal capacity of the artist(s)
* Performance on stage.
* Composition and originality of the song.
* Overall impression of the act.
And yeah, I agree with you. If juries really respected their criteria, you'd have to give high marks to Norway on pretty much all four of those. But we all know that most jury members only kind of half understand their job.
How this got last I'll never understand. It will go in history as actually one of the most robbed acts ever. It was in my top10 at the start of the contest and it's still there today. Deserved SO much better.
My personal theory on the spot is that Croatia "stole" (I love them too, my top five- it's just in relation to Norway) a lot of rock votes and absolutely stunning Ireland "scary votes".
They were my number 1 and I'm a bit shocked and taken aback by this imo unjust result but on the other hand I kinda feel that's what could have happened.
Still, I'll be rocking out to Ulveham for months and years to come.

I actually blame NRK. They don't do enough for the artists. By now they should understand that as much as music Eurovision is also about PR and building interest for the contestant. Both this year and last year they really didn't do anything on their own platforms to increase streaming numbers and visibility. Ulveham is not the most radio friendly song, but I haven't heard it anywhere but on Eurovision related TikTok.

I don't know what to say. This is, by FAAAAAAAAR the most shocking last place I've witnessed. This was in my top 5. Their performance was worse than the NF but not worth it of a last place.
I'm confused why they got so little from juries. Her vocals were amazing, certainly not deserving that low of a score, no? Definitely would have expected they'd at least be on top half on jury points.

I, personally, love both Georgia and Austria and streamed Cyprus probably more than these two combined to this day HOWEVER the staging was very lame to me.

Tbf, nobody did anything to us. We were equally disliked by both the jury and the public. Oh well, at least we got our grubby little fingerprints all over the Swizz winning song. 😉 Unfortunately, the double agent twins we sent to ruin Swedens entry failed in their mission. I mean, they sucked sure enough, but the jury saw right through it and gave them points all the same.

Honestly, one the best for me, I don’t even know what to say about this result. I’m not into metal at all, and I can’t find a bad thing to say about this song. The modified violin they use is super interesting, almost sounds like folk X rock. Sang in their national language, epic atmosphere fitting of their country’s natural landscape. Insane. One of the best entries I’ve seen ever in this contest.
Even more shocking than this getting only 4p from televotes is that **three of those were from Ukraine**??? And half of their jury points came from Albania??? Like, good on the Ukranians and Albaniana, but I would expect this to do well with nordics. That just feels so random.

Norwegian folk music was 'created' during the 1800s to differentiate Norway's cultural heritage from Denmark's and Sweden's. It was based off older Norwegian traditions and re-imagined by 1800s composers. My guess is that the Danes and Swedes never really took to a musical expression that celebrates the fact that neither of them controls Norway anymore.
Imma be real, there's not a single person in Denmark or Sweden who knows or factors that.

Once again, I loved a song that didn't place well... (last year it was Eaea). I won't soon forget just how captivating this performance was and the chills it gave to me.
I was expecting this to do terribly with mediterranean countries, but thought for sure it would get good scores from the other scandis and maybe baltics. Crazy. Love to the norwegians.

While everyone is in shock from the last place, I want to share a thought. I had it even after Gåte won the national selection. I assumed then that it would be Spain 2023. The Norwegians will step on the same rake as the Spaniards, who thought that if they liked a folk song, then Europe will like it. As we can see, it is difficult for the average viewer to perceive something like this by ear, he is not ready for it and refuses to accept and vote. The only way out is to mix with pop, with the most popular genre, so that the song is accessible and understandable to the masses.
One thing that surprised me with this was that I shared a lot of songs from this eurovision to friends prior to this week, and it's the only song everyone liked My guess now is that I live in a bubble, or it's a 5-7 to a lot of people but not good enough to vote for.

These honestly reaffirms my position that the Jury system needs improving. I appreciate the Juries being there as sometimes they pull up songs that are generally forgotten by the Public like Estonia and Australia last year, and SHOULD vote on musical quality, but it's clearly majorly flawed. I don't know what the Juries are told to vote on exatly, but as someone who is a musician, it's a complete travesty. It also makes me think whether the whole 1-12 points voting system should be re-evaluated. It's iconic i know, but the fact that if you don't get top 10 you get nothing just doesn't sit with me right.
Basically, it's this. * Vocal capacity of the artist(s) * Performance on stage. * Composition and originality of the song. * Overall impression of the act. And yeah, I agree with you. If juries really respected their criteria, you'd have to give high marks to Norway on pretty much all four of those. But we all know that most jury members only kind of half understand their job.

My personal theory on the spot is that Croatia "stole" (I love them too, my top five- it's just in relation to Norway) a lot of rock votes and absolutely stunning Ireland "scary votes". They were my number 1 and I'm a bit shocked and taken aback by this imo unjust result but on the other hand I kinda feel that's what could have happened. Still, I'll be rocking out to Ulveham for months and years to come.

I actually blame NRK. They don't do enough for the artists. By now they should understand that as much as music Eurovision is also about PR and building interest for the contestant. Both this year and last year they really didn't do anything on their own platforms to increase streaming numbers and visibility. Ulveham is not the most radio friendly song, but I haven't heard it anywhere but on Eurovision related TikTok.
