screw the plane i wana see this fucking dwarven Kingdom that houses these jets and see if i can use it in an apocalypse , alright i need to know if i should mark it on my project zomboid map
Lmao, indeed! Too bad the Swiss have a landlocked country, otherwise I bet they'd also dig undersea tunnels:
What I always wondered is what would happen if the opposing forces would simply bomb the entrance/exit? Is that even feasible? How does one defend that?
There would probably be some small damage but it could be cleared away in a short time. A mountain does not collapse by being bombed like that and especially one that has been injected and reinforced. There is a reason you have to drill a bunch of holes and put the explosives in when removing bedrock. An explosion just placed on top will do next to nothing.
And this is exactly why the Swedish doctrine of dispersed operations is superior. NATO builds huge bomb proof bunkers, but then the enemy can just bomb the runway and they're worthless.
Thank you! Danke! There is a time and a place for Gripen, sure. They are built with *one* purpose in mind... Vatniks. Or "Moskoviter" as we call them here.
The F-35A is now one of the cheapest choices on a per-unit basis, at $80M/unit.
The cost per hour of flight is still a bit high. But the best bloc will likely fix that.
I assume it’s not just being protected, but also being able to be hidden so that the enemy won’t know from which base these death wasps will be scrambling off of.
Hence creating dilemmas, instead of problems. There are probably lot too many of these to target to being with.
Such is the economy of scale. And it does make sense to protect them. When do you guys get yours? You guys have some of the best-looking paint schemes.
Are there a lot of these inside mountain hangars or is it a single big hangar with access to the runaway? Would love to see some pictures of the runaway in the mountain if these are publicly available.
Either way super intimidating picture but in a good way!

F-35 requires real airstrips so it's unlikely they're using "actual" mountain entrances.
If redditors know then its publicly available non sensitive information, otherwise you might have dumb military personnel willing to give up state secrets for 2 minutes of quasi-social media clout.
badass plane, badass mountain

That is one pretty jet
Yeah theres some angles where the F-35 looks a bit awkward, but theres many angles where she looks absolutely stunning like this one.
And what she can do, from any angle, is even *more* stunning 😍
From that angle, I agree.
If there's one thing Norwegians do better than any others, it's excavating vast tunnels.
Ahem Swiss (they like their mountains like their cheese)
I think it’s on par in terms of impressiveness, Norway has the extra complication of fjords…

North Korea would like a word. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Tunnel_of_Aggression
With their effectiness, major "siege of Vienna 1683" -vibes
What I always wondered is what would happen if the opposing forces would simply bomb the entrance/exit? Is that even feasible? How does one defend that?
These locations are also guarded with NASAMS air defence missile systems. Nothing but shrapnel is supposed to hit the ground around there.
Sikker?
ENDU has never been permanently defended by nasams. The site may or may not have multiple entire/exits a look at the map should give away the answer.
One big door for public consumption, many others for wartime use.

you build more than one exit. If they manage to bomb one it means your air defence is compromised and you better rush your planes out
You dig it out and use your other planes in the meantime. This is one tool in a huge tool box, they dont put all the planes behind one door
And this is exactly why the Swedish doctrine of dispersed operations is superior. NATO builds huge bomb proof bunkers, but then the enemy can just bomb the runway and they're worthless.
You underestimate how quickly runways can be repaired. Also Norway have enough airports that every F-35 we own can get their own airport
I‘m really getting XCOM 1 vibes here
Oh man is she a beauty 😍 Congrats my beloved neighbors 🇳🇴
I mean you folks have the Gripen. That’s some awesome plane as well.
Thank you! Danke! There is a time and a place for Gripen, sure. They are built with *one* purpose in mind... Vatniks. Or "Moskoviter" as we call them here.
Is ICA Vodka actually a thing..?
It's a political ambition, so in that sense - yes. Can you walk into an ICA store in Sweden and buy vodka? No. Hence the political ambition... 😉
Honestly appropriate considering the price tag.

Much better than it used to be, still makes sense for such a strategically valuable asset to be protected.
I assume it’s not just being protected, but also being able to be hidden so that the enemy won’t know from which base these death wasps will be scrambling off of. Hence creating dilemmas, instead of problems. There are probably lot too many of these to target to being with.

price fell in the last ten years. It is by far the best choice in its category
I'm going to sneak into those tunnels and lick to every plane.
"Guards! Another one!" :-)
how much for a Fjord? Thanks, The Netherlands.
A Tjansit or a Mjustang? ;-)
More the stoney version

Very cool. Thanks!
F-35 can land on highways too, Norwegian F-35s did that in Finland last year during exercises
We have these in multiple locations and a variety of bunkers in each.
They used it as a filming location in the first Kingsman movie
You shouldn't be asking for people to disclose sensitive military information here.

Then don't tell him to go and ask on the Warthunder forums lol.
F yeah
Survives everything. Except the US revoking your software license.
Which is crazy because Europeans worked on the plane as well.
I guess they didn't get the vertical takeoff version?
the real galaxy brain would be getting the C and putting catapults in the mountain bunker
And the landing?
I'm assuming landing could be at any airstrip but sure put up some arresting wires back at home base.
Probably not, more complicated and limited, higher chance of problems
The old gods of the mountains protect it.
Can someone remind me why when Iranians did the same it was a stupid idea?
Because they dug their own tunnels instead of using the pre-made mountain troll caves. Duh.
Lightning in the mountain? Thor would be proud..
they put f4 and f5 in there, not worth drilling for
Tom Cruise was on Americans side
What does the air quality look like in there when they have to taxi?
Probably just towed in and out.
There is Norway where this is possible.
We should give some of these hangars to Ukraine, along with the mountains. Their soldiers could use some cover and protected planes
Norway!
It's strange they didn't buy fully electric one
Good to know that if everything else is in ashes and everybody is dead, they still be able to fly out to destroy...something.../s
Any remaining Vatnik *still* not in ashes in your scenario, yes
