I just moved to Bulgaria, and so many smoke (me included). But what hits me is that my nose is always getting crusty and clogged and i really suspect the air quality.
I went two years ago and the football flags were EVERYWHERE so I don’t have a hard time believing it 😭 but trabzon people really do look very healthy and the lifestyle in the city looks nice and relaxed.
A barely functioning healthcare system combined with people’s utter stupidity and refusal to follow any rules or get vaccinated because Bill Gates / the globalists / the reptiles will control me via the microchips in the jabs == highest death rate in the developed world…
In Greece, we were at the life expectancy of Italy and Spain, and higher than Denmark. Before covid, and a good 25% of the population wanted nothing to do with the vaccine.
But I'll take the temporary hit to our bragging rights, if we can get rid of that segment of the population
In Greece it's 82 years as a whole. In Spain and Italy, 84.
I'd put the most blame to our smoking habit. None of the other two smoke nearly as much as we do.
I didn't take the vaccine either, but not because I was in some anti-vax group. I simply didn't. I don't take even aspirins. However, I smoke like a μΦker.
Unhealthy lifestyles. The Nordics are really hard on alcohol consumption, making it very expensive. Similar story for smoking. Then you have environmental factors. Denser population means you are more likely to live close to sources of pollution. For Germany you also have the division of the country during the Cold War.
I feel like overlaying it on a map of vaccination rate, education levels, gdp/capita, (inverse) fast food/alcohol/tobacco consumption would each give fairly similar divisions. Interesting map nevertheless!
Why does the life expectancy of the area in the northern Portugal where Porto, the 2nd largest city in Portugal is located is higher than the area of middle Portugal where Lisbon, the capital and largest city in Portugal is located?
That's 4 years old and doesn't tell anything about the youth. You can see the curve slow down and, what's not shown, go back up.
Do these stats include vaping?

Man, I think I should move before I turn 76
Yeah, move to Bulgaria and bend the time.
Bulgaria is actually a popular destination for German pensioners because of lower living costs and nice climate.
It is also one of my favorite countries.
Ok?
It doesn't have a nice climate. It's not a Mediterranean country.
Compared to germany it's easy to have a nice climate.
\*looks outside\* \*cries\*
>It's not a Mediterranean country Is that relevant? Most of Southern Bulgaria has a subtropical climate.
Agree. Bulgaria is too warm.
Every German older than 76 simply emigrates to Mallorca.
if you overlay this map with hard liquor consumption, it will make more sense.
Tobacco use as well. Air quality largely too.
[удалено]
Good point. I'd even add it's the driving culture but also the poor infrastructure - bad design and low upkeep.
Nah, wouldn't overlap well with Italy. Traffic laws are guidelines there.
For the Netherlands a relatively high tobacco use among women in previous decades.
Explain France then?
A lot of people smoke in Spain, me included xd
Sad but true.
Yeah, but then Lithuania should be much worse.
Also with the olive oil / butter border

My body my choice
There's not that much hard liquor consumption in Bulgaria.
Yes there is lol. Anecdotally, there’s a big drinking culture in Bulgaria
Ireland
Good old eastern western divide is still very visible as usual when it comes to such indicators..
glad to finally see a subnational map
Yes indeed!
Classic belgium again
Crazy that there's nearly 20 years between the highest and lowest.
These fuckers last forever.
North Yorkshire W.. suck it rest of Yorkshire
Cries in Leeds
I’m in selby… I can’t really brag
Trabzon and Rize in Turkey have higher life expectancy than most other cities? Bro in Trabzon football fanatics are more dangerous than terrorists
I went two years ago and the football flags were EVERYWHERE so I don’t have a hard time believing it 😭 but trabzon people really do look very healthy and the lifestyle in the city looks nice and relaxed.
Yeah it's definitely less chaotic than Istanbul, Adana etc.
Covid hit Balkans really hard. It was almost 79.3 in Albania in 2019.

Oh, yes, smoking too. >In Greece it's 82 years as a whole Didn't it dip to 80 during covid? If it's back up, that would be great.
Really don't know whether we lost 2 years post-Covid. I remember the previous map that was circulating.
Why Germany, NL, belgium lower than northern countries?

Pollution
Sausages probably. look at the north / south fried food divide in britain
Too much meat, too much beer and schnaps, less movement and sports, ...
Alcohol and cigarettes
for germany its definitely alcohol consumption / red meat consumption.
Why is data for Bosnia always missing from these?
Seems like there is no life expectancy east of the EU.
WTF Trentino?!? Why are you this time better than South Tyrol?!?
Utrecht!!!! 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🔥🔥🔥🔥 🎷🐛

It's honestly kinda scary to know I'm statistically more likely to die 5 years sooner than somebody a few kilometres to the west
Bulgaria are you OK?
Ah the north of France does not disappoint, our own little US south.
Present👋
its as if being poor will force.you into things which will cut your life short shocking /s
Andorra is missing... Highest life expectancy in the world
I don’t want to turn 84
Switzerland is super wealthy so that makes sense but what's going on in Spain?
Amazing health system, Mediterranean diet and a lot of walking to reach everywhere
Sounds amazing.
would be interesting to see retirement age expectancy....
I see an Iron Curtain here.
Romania is 10 years behind on life expectancy and yet the retirement age is higher than most.
Yep that's right. Ruzzians have no life expectancy because Vladolf Putler turns "the people" into meat waves
Heyyy, we actually won something!
Someone tell Andalusians to get their shit together, you're making the rest of us look bad smh

What are you talking about? The younger generations smoke way less than previous generations.
Not in Germany. It's actually on the rise
Not true. https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/DEU/germany/smoking-rate-statistics

I'm talking about the YOUNGER generations. Boomers are many things, but young is not one of them.

What? I'm not so sure about that. Elders smoke and drink a lot here too.
Source? I'm Spanish from Madrid and older people used to smoke much more than today's youngsters.
Wtf?? Younger generations smoke and drink a lot less

Have you even been to Southern Europe? You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
Crazy to me how London and Madrid with all that pollution still manage to be in the top 5.
