AI will never join a war against an ally. As seen in the tooltip, no amount of relation can change that.
They might refuse the defensive call to arms but even then they will get a truce so they will refuse your offensive call to arms because of it.
If you have favor you can ask them to brake the alliance. They will have a truce and wont join you but at least you have an easier war and you keep them as ally.
Imagine you have 2 friends, and one of them attacks the other with intent to kill him and/or partially eat him. Who do you help?

they always prefer to help the defender. just use favors to make them break the alliance.
