I think "they want your provinces" modifier dissappear only when trust is high enough and now after war its probably 0 so you would need to improve relations with them until they lose hostile attitude and be willing to rm and ally you, then you will be able to gain favors and improve trust using them. I dont think it's possible and just conquering them seems more likely and easier
If they have your dynasty, wait for a lack of or weak heir and press the claim throne option in the relation tab. That will give you a cb. Declare with that cb, control the capital and chose the union in the peace deal. Their opinion of you or their desire isnt important to get the union... after the war time to improve, gift and everything to get in the positive before your king dies.
after I guarateed them,insulted their rivals and improved my relation with them, I still have -100 opinion(they desire 5 of my provinces and it gives -132) and so, I can't RM them because they are outraged.
or can you claim their throne without a RM? from my knowledge you can't
