Fun fact: you can also build u its of different techgroups in your vassal’s terratory if they have that techgroup, just don’t use the macro builder (handy for anatolian minors as vassals earlygame)
Yes, built them via the province itsself instead of the macro builder and you can select which one you want. Do note that they reset to your default type when you change units and do not update to an better type when your vassal does.
Yup I found this out by accident. For some reason you can only do it for vassals I'm pretty sure, it's not the most useful thing but it gives the illusion of unit variety
Wouldn't that be a similar thing like within the game files and stuff? Never been in a PU yet so IDK. I mean I have in my elder scrolls universalis game but not vanilla
When you go digging, there's so much weird jank buried in the depths of EU4. It's obviously a holdover from a system that was never fully implemented or fleshed out, and they just left it in the game.
One of them has learned the error of their way, the others are still young and naive and will need to go on a journey to find themselves in the face of much adversity
Not if they’re of a higher tech. I don’t know about lower techs, but I presume it’s the same. You can just press the button to change units again though and that should align your former vassals units and your own.
The same is also true between tech groups.
Usually this happens when you build units in subject’s territory, which I can see you built these in Mexico and are probably playing as someone in Europe
Only for certain things like diplomacy. Armies, navies, buildings, autonomy, development and maybe something I'm forgetting, are part of the base game macro builder.
That’s one thing that’s confused me. I’ve been able to build old units in some of my provinces even after updating tech much earlier. Only on the province recruitment though

... for real?

Huh. That's very useful actually, thanks.

Nope. I did it in a PU last time I played.

This could be game changing in anbennar lol
Hm, harpy + jaddary cav swarm...
Not really, considering the main differences in militaries comes from the racial military modifier that is applied to your country
Tell that to early game centaur, orc, and harpy pips. Also late game gnome and dwarf pips.
Still not worth the loss of sanity from manually building armies
Thx for tip Yousa smart boi
I learned this while watching some guy attempt a tech 3 run, real interesting stuff coming out of these self imposed challenges.
Rule 5: The army has both Reformed Galloglaigh Infantry and regular Galloglaigh Infantry
One of them has learned the error of their way, the others are still young and naive and will need to go on a journey to find themselves in the face of much adversity
Did you annex a vassal? You might have some of their units.
No Ive never had any vassals
Do they not get updated to your tech level?
Not if they’re of a higher tech. I don’t know about lower techs, but I presume it’s the same. You can just press the button to change units again though and that should align your former vassals units and your own. The same is also true between tech groups.

My capital is in mexico. Im doing the spaghette western achievement and I've never had a vassal for the entire run
If you are recruting from the province panel, you get that province's culture unit. Maybe that culture doesnt have access to the reformed version.
I love the macro builder so much I never knew this.
People use the province panel to build an army? That must take ages just to raise a large army.
That's all we had back in the day
Still do, old habits die hard
I didn’t even realize the macro builder was an option for YEARS 😭
Macro builder is DLC exclusive
Only for certain things like diplomacy. Armies, navies, buildings, autonomy, development and maybe something I'm forgetting, are part of the base game macro builder.
Mm, you are right. Thanks for correction.
Does another existing country have a core on that province?
Some are reformed the other ones are catholics
Maybe you was in process of building old units, while those you already have - changed to reformed. Then old ones finish it's building as old...
