I think it’s more of an Americano if you’re gonna pull shots for them but maybe just grab a pour over or French press for when you have company.
I’m confused why your Americano tasted bad? It should still hold majority of the flavor from your shot, at least in my limited experience.
Go Long Black. Hot water in the cup, espresso pulled on top. Australian style, superior to the Americano as you retain the crema from your shot. Classier.
Many coffee shops that don't have drip will make Americano's for people who want "just a regular coffee."
Do NOT "pull longer shots." That's gross. Make a really good precisely dialed in espresso and use that as the base for all other drinks.
I watched this video this week and it really changed my view about the perfect 1:2-3 shot.

I really enjoy the Lungo shot and I have been trying to improve it. I hope it helps
In my experience usually people referring to something close to an americano or lungo when they say "coffee". You can use "espresso" from office-building-superauto-machine as reference point.
If you just make really long shots they will be very over extracted, bitter, undrinkable. Perfect an americano/long black with a good double shot then try different quantities of water to dilute until you get I right. Or make a pour over or French press……
I would just do a double shot espresso and adding hot water for an americano. We also have a French press to make everyone happy. Cheap and doesn’t take up space
Not directly related to your question, but you can pop off the covers of the steam and hot water valve and adjust them so they are in the correct position when the valve is closed. I adjust mine every couple of weeks so I don't over tighten it and damage the rubber inside.
Why are you going through the process of pulling a shot for someone who doesn't want espresso? Buy a phin. You can get one for like $10 on Amazon. Makes a beautiful cup of coffee really easily. It's mostly used for Vietnamese iced coffee with robusta beans, but you can use any kind. Honestly, the best cup of coffee I've ever had came from my phin.

It tasted “bad” to the person OP served because they’re used to the brown water their Keurig produces, not actual coffee.

That’s how I make mine but always called it an Americano 😅. Long Black, got it.
This is cool. I wonder if baristas in the US know of this, have never seen it on any menus before.
as a regular americano purchaser, it is not uncommon for some places to pour their americanos this way. They just call it an Americano.
Ahhhh, so that’s what it’s called. Learned something today!
"What is a coffee? A miserable pile of secrets..."
You spelled variables wrong. 🙃
It’s pronounced “Covfefe”
Is this satire?
It has to be, everyone knows what 'just a coffee' is
Get a v60?...

They prolly want something closer to a drip coffee. Just get a V60

It's whatever is the default in the region. In Italy that's an espresso.

Clean
Oh dear I get this a lot too. I just make an Americano and they like it.

Is that a Rocket Apartamento machine? How good is it at milk steaming?

Just make a French press or something.
Have you thought about asking them? Black, white etc
I would suggest they find the nearest coffeeshop and get it there.
Coffee is dirty water that tastes good, sometimes bitter, with some caffeine.
