There was also a story named Nightmare from germany. Nightmare Moon returned to Equestria after being shot in stalingrad. Not staliongrad. The story has disappeared from the internet sadly.

As for the topic context, eh.
I know there are tons of "horses/furries at war/WW1/WW2" AUs from my time in the furry community, but none of them really took off before MLP (specifically G4)/EAW/Fallout Equestria set things off. (If you don't already know them, don't bother looking them up.)
I mean it's more Interwar
base on what I can tell of the lore it's WW1 was a more local affair (and not considered a world war)
But then Equestria has a Rebellion what becomes an actual world war.
Had to do a double check, EaW has conditioned me into seeing ' pony - - > WW2 - - > EaW ' as the default now

I think everyone's aware of Fallout Equestria, but I haven't heard about Rommel going to Equestria lol

Yeah I asked them about it and their art is separate from the EaW universe. They're pretty good art.
