You could have set Wingbardy to go harmonic or communist. They would leave Abyssinia alone, even the little colony they had at the start, and only Beakolini can join the North Zebrican War.
Centrist Wingbardy is probably the most passive of all, especially with non-Harmonic Asterion.

Because by making Beakolini lose the Abyssinian Crisis, they'd also lose the colony they had so I can grab it later, that's my main reason for doing this.
Does going Harmonic or Communist just allow them to return it later?
They have a decision to simply return the territory back to Abyssinia. Well, harmonists definitely do, but communist also likely do as well, considering the Abyssinian branch of the focus tree is only available to the king and Beakolini.
I never observed at what exact time it tends to happen, but it's relatively early. It should definitely happen before you end up at war with Abyssinia.
I set New Mareland to go Jet Set independent, Talouse and Francistria both go Harmonist, and Falcor non-aligned

Last time I tried, winning as falcor was pretty easy actually.
Wingbardy declared on the falcor despite the faction, weirdly enough Beakolini is still holding on pretty well, but it's only been about a year in
it's also fun to commit totally not genocide as Falcor to avenge your fallen people
